    A CAUTION
The article linked in YeOldMacFan's post gives the basic information. I would place some emphasis on these statements from the last two paragraphs:
"If you have no further need for the older version of the iWork application or the iWork suite on your Mac, you may delete the the application or the iWork suite by dragging the application or the iWork folder to the trash."
"[Keeping both versions] allows you to maintain consistent versions when collaborating with other people who may not have the latest iWork suite."
Collaboration with other people is not the only reason for keeping both new and old versions of Numbers (or Pages of Keynote) available.
The current versions were developed with the goal of improving compatibility between iOS, OS X and iCloud transferability of files, and many features supported in the '09 versions of these applications are NOT supported (yet) in the new versions. If you need these features for your work, then you still have a need for the older versions.
Any file opened, then saved from the new versions cn no longer be opened in the older version. Unsupported features may be removed on importing he file into the new version. The file may be exported from the new version as a Numbers '09 file, which may then be opened in Numbers '09, but unsupported features removed in the import to Numbers 3 will not be restored in the export.
Use your own judgement as to whether to keep of delete Numbers '09. My choice would be to keep it.
My personal choice has been to delay installing the new versions of Numbers Pages and Keynote until support for more of the 'missing' features has been restored.

    Barry

  • HT1338 I need help with numbers. I try to open numbers and I get a message stating that I need an update. When I go to update apple say I am up to date, but I still can't open numbers. I keep going around and circles. Help

I cannot open numbers. When I click to open the message says that, I need to update. When I go to updates is says I am updated. I keep going around and circles. Can anyone help?

Look in your Applications folder for the new version.
Remove the old icon from the Dock and drag down the new one for ease of use.

  • Ever since the new numbers update that I installed I am unable to open my documents.  I receive a message I need to update....

Ever since I updated my system to 10.9 and updated the numbers, iphoto, imovie, pages etc I have been unable to open my numbers documents.  I keep getting a message I need to update.  My computer shows I did.  Whats happening?

I was opening my documents from the document folder on my dock and that's when I couldn't open them.  I also couldn't open them from the old icon for numbers on my dock.  I even couldn't open from finder.  After recieiving your message I did use the Applications to open numbers and it did work.  I also had one document set with a password and I still had problems opening it.  Once I got it open I removed the password temporairly and it opens now from the document folder like it used to before.  Oh yes, I forgot to mention I removed the old Numbers icon from the dock.  Then I dragged the icon from the Applications folder onto my doc and all seems fine.
Thank you for your help, I just don't know why these things just don't update automatically from Apple.  Ever since using Apple products these past 3 1/2 years I've decided no more Window's computers.  Please to Apple.....is there a way they can take care of these updates beforehand?

You cannot access iCloud on a Mac running Mac OSX 10.4.  Are you sure, the system version is correct?
If you are running iWork '09 (iWork 09 9.0.1) on your Mac with Numbers 2.3, you must at least have MacOS X 10.5.6 installed.
if you want iCloud support for iOS apps, you need the iWork 9.3 update, see:  About the iWork 9.3 Update
And this update requires OS X Lion v10.7.4
Is your iMac compatible with Lion or later?

  • Updating documents - adding batch numbers to lines

Using the DI Server, we want to be able to update a document (such as a Goods Receipt PO) and create batch numbers for lines where the item on the line is set to batch on release only (hence we were able to create the document with no batch numbers on in the first place).
Currently, when we do this, no error comes back from the DI Server, but the batch numbers are not added.

    Hi Jim,
Adding lot numbers to pick tickets would not be possible (out of the box)

What model iPod do you have?  A 2G only can go to 4.2.1.  The 3G and 4G can go to the latest. 4.3.3. Identify your iPod here:

What computer OS and version do you have?  What version of iTunes is installed?

  • Yesterday I worked on spreadsheets in the 3.0 version, today I open up numbers and it tells me I need to update.  When I look in "about numbers" it tells me I have version 09...I went to the app store, it says the new version is installed on my Mac.

    Hi nuvest,
Numbers 3.0.1 lives in your Applications folder. Numbers '09 lives in a folder called iWork '09 within your Applications folder. You can drag each icon to your Dock. They will become Aliases. Right click (or control click) on each Alias in turn and Options > Keep in Dock. Then you can choose which one to launch.
Numbers '09 (Numbers 2.3) is on the left, three column chart. Numbers '13 (Numbers 3.0.1) is on the right, four column chart.
Both versions will run side-by-side. Just be sure which version has your document open before you save.
In Numbers 3.0.1 you can convert "backwards" to Numbers 2 with File> Export > Numbers '09...
    Regards,
    Ian.

  • Says I need to update numbers but there is none available

I am unable to open a file created in numbers because it says I need an update.
    There is no update available.
Has anyone else had this problem?

    Hi chilired,
If you updated your system to OS X Mavericks (or automatic updates did this for you) you probably now have two versions of Numbers on your machine. The update did not replace the old version of Numbers, and the Numbers icon on your Dock continues to point to the old version.
Numbers 3 is in your Applications folder, and Numbers 2 has been moved to a new sub-folder called iWork '09 within your Applications folder.
Wayne Contello has written a User Tip for working with the old and new versions of iWork.
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6991
The trick is to drag icons for both versions to your Dock. Right click or control click on each and Options > Keep in Dock. That puts you in charge of which version you launch.
Here is a screen shot of both Numbers icons on my Dock.
Numbers 2.3 (Numbers '09) on the left with a three column graph.
Numbers 3.2 on the right with a four column graph.
Both versions will run happily together. Just be sure which version is opening your document.
Instead of double clicking the document, run whichever version of Numbers/Pages/Keynote suits and use File > Open.

    Ian.

  • Numbers says to update but when App store opens under mtn lion says not updates needed.

Numbers, Pages and Keynote all say I need an update when I open but none of them will activate the download. Now that mtn lion is installed it immediately open the store and checks. So Im thinking is Apple wanting us to repurchase to get this update so its store savvy? If not how do I update?

In Mountain Lion Software Update has been "rolled into" the Mac App Store. Choose Software Update from the Apple menu just like you always have & the Mac App Store will launch. Depending on what you have tihat needs updating you may see two sections in the MAS window. This is a screenshot of my updates earlier today when I had the iWork update under Software Update & some Mac App Store-purchased apps that also needed updating.
But, as always, if you're not running the latest versions of the iWork apps installed from a retail box or the downloaded trial & Software Update says your software is up to date, make sure the applications are where the installer initially put them. The updaters are very picky. If the location is not where the updater is programmed to look or if the folder doesn't have the name the updater looks for, it will not work. The applications cannot be renamed or moved. If you installed from the downloaded trial or the retail box, they must be in the iWork '09 folder in Applications. That iWork folder must be named iWork '09. If it doesn't have the '09 Software Update won't find them & the updaters won't work.

  • Pages, Numbers and Keynote keep saying they need an update

    Hi
I've recently updated to Mavericks and have been throught the slew of iWork and iLife updates. All ran smoothly appart from the iWork apps. The app store reports them as being installed on the featured page but says they need updating on the updates page.
I originally bought iWork 09 on CD and had the latest versions of Pages etc installed prior to the mavericks update. All the apps updated correctly and I'm running Pages 5.0, Numbers 3.0 & Keynote 6.0 and all work but the app store keeps telling me I need to update again.
So far I've run the updates 3 times.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get the app store to realise I've got the most uptodate versions installed?
    Thanks

It's likely that an earlier version of iWork is still installed in your Applications folder. If so, remove the iWorks folder to the trash and this should end the update prompts.
NO! DO NOT move the iWorks folder to the trash!
If anything move the Pages 5 to the trash, if you value your work. Pages 5 has 90+ missing features and numerous bugs.

  • HT1338 trying to download numbers. says i need an update. latest updates installed

as the title says I cannot download numbers. Says i need to update but there are no updates available. Running 10.7.5......please help

You need to either download Mavericks from the Mac App Store first or buy an iWork 09 DVD from a source such as Amazon or eBay. If you upgrade the computer's OS, back it up first.

  • Numbers says I need to update, but Software Update says its installed?

I updated to Maverick a month or more ago.
Now when I open Numbers it says I need to update to the lates verstion (3.0)
But when I open the SoftwareUpdate app is says there are now updates available (or needed)
When I find the Numbers app in the AppStore is says Numbers 3.1 is "Installed".
When I open Numbers and check "About Numbers"  it says  "Numbers 09  2.1(436)"
Numbers will open, and I can work with my spreadsheets, but its getting annoying, and I'm worried something is screwed up between the AppStore Updates and the Numbers app....
    Any ideas?

    Hi Matt,
After the update you have two version of Numbers on your Mac.  The latest version is in your main Applications folder. The old version is in a subfolder name iWork '09.  You are probably using the old version when you get that message. Try the new version and all should be well.

  • Finding Tables needed for linking Batch Numbers/Items to Invoice Items

I'm trying to create a report that will show basically a Sales Invoice and under each line Item show the Items with thier batch numbers that went into that sales Item.   My difficulty is in finding the table or tables that have key fields to relate Invoice to Batches and inventory.   Looking at forms/reports in B1 I have found RBTN OBTN and RITL tables but only the OBTN shows in the crystal as a datatable.
