Batch Processing Questions

I'm scanning a large volume of slides. I'd like to be able to batch process them for basic adjustments. I've found in most cases that opening the scans, adding a curves layer, and hitting the auto button does a good job initially of color restoration. I've been able to add an action and do that through batch processing except for one issue.
ISSUE -- When I check 'Override Action "Save as" Commands' the File Naming section remains grayed out. Thus I don't have the option to specify file naming when I run a batch.
QUESTION -- It appears that when I check "Suppress Color Profile Warnings" the batch continues using the color space of the image to be processed, not the working color space. That is fine for what I'm doing now. However if I wanted to use the working color space, would I simply include a recorded step in the action to convert the color profile to the working profile?
Dale

I'm not sure why those fields would still be grayed-out.  You may need an actual Save As command in the action to see the file naming section, I'm not sure.  Notably Photoshop issues this message upon checking the [ ] Override Action "Save As" Commands box:
Regarding your question on conversion...  You have it right but there's one clarification needed:  You cannot record an action to convert to the "working profile" per se, you will have to pick an actual profile from the list (e.g., sRGB IEC61966-2.1), and that profile name will be stored in the action:

  • Creating a moasic-batch processing question?

    I 'volunteered' help to do a project for my daughter. For an
    elementary school fundraiser, she wants to create four moasics -- 11X17 images --
    one for each of four classes, with an 'Egyptian' theme -- at least one of the
    images being of the pyramids of Giza.
    The plan is this: several of the mommies will take their digital cameras to
    school this week, and take photos of the children, and then let the children
    snap away fill up the rest of the memory card. Assuming there are five
    mommies, and that each provides a hundred photos -- they're going to put them
    on CD's -- I could wind up with only 500 photos, and these moasic apps need
    tons more images.
    My 'plan', such as it is, is to take these photos and duplicate them as many
    times as necessary, and then change the color cast of some of the different
    batches, e.g. -- some with a 'blue' cast, some with a 'sand colored' cast, etc.
    The idea is, MacOSaiX will choose the blue for the sky, the sand for the sand,
    etc.
    Questions: Given a big enough HD, and using PSE 4, can I easily duplicate
    batches of the originals photos-- say 50 or a 100 at a time? Is there a
    'batch' commend/process that would let me do that?
    Ditto, changing the color -- can I apply the same color change to a large batch
    of photos at the same time?
    The PSE 4 Help seems to say I can 'batch process' all the files in selected
    folders, but it doesn't mention duplicating all the images in the folder. It
    does _seem to say that I could do the automatic 'color' adjustment.
    Any help/suggestions to 'improve' this plan would be most appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Hal

    That is what i ended up doing - basically batching up 100 items and then doing a service callout until all the items are processed (inside a pipeline pair). In this case I guess this works fine, but if this were a web service proxy instead of a MFL file proxy service it seems like the pattern is inefficient - I would do service callouts in the for each and aggregate the responses, then I'd need to call a service at the end (via a route) just to create a response (so it doesn't just echo the original request back). Or is there a better way?

  • Two Urgent Batch Processing Questions!!

    Q1) I have over a thousand one-minute clips I need to convert to a different QUicktime format using compressor....
    I have created my custom preset that I want to use for all 1000 clips.
    I really dont want to drag my preset manually onto all 1000 clips, but I cannot see a "apply to all" option.
    How do I apply the same preset to every clip in my batch list of clips for conversion?
    Q2) Is there a way to save the outputted file with the EXACT same file name as the source? Compressor wants to tack on something on the end of my file name, but I need the exact same name as the source.
    THAnKS A MILLION!!! Tight deadline you know!

    I'm a newbie, so this may not be the response you're looking for, but have you tried setting your default preset in Compressor to your preset, then dragging your batch of files in for export? I set my default setting, then dragged in a handful of files, and it set them all to the same export settings.
    Good luck,
    Lawrence

  • Batch process question

    I`m making some icons with different styles to them, via the actions, so just before I apply my changes to all the icons via batch mode, I`d like to have one saved as PSD, just in case a customer would like a variation in it, but how do I save it without saving them all as PSD`s, I`d like to save them as PNG`s.

    It`s kind of hard to explain, but here`s is what I`m doine..
    1)Action set to record,
    2)As I go along I`m making random changes,
    3)When I feel I`m happy with what I`ve done,
    4)I`d like to save the work as a PNG, but if I do at this stage it`ll save them all as a PNG when I run the batch.
    So when I`m ready to save my changes and batch the whole lot, how can I save that first project as PSD then batch the rest as PNGs?
    I hope I`m making a little bit more sense...

  • Question about sql batch process in java app

    hi all
    i have few questions about using batch process in the java.sql package. the addBatch method can take sql statements like inserts or updates. can we use a mixture of insert and update then? can we use prepared statement for this? it's just for performance consideration. thanks in advance.

    hi all
    i have few questions about using batch process in the
    java.sql package. the addBatch method can take sql
    statements like inserts or updates. addBatch() is a method that has no parameters. It doesn't 'add' sql statements.
    can we use a
    mixture of insert and update then? can we use
    prepared statement for this? it's just for
    performance consideration. thanks in advance.The point of batching is that you take something that is invariant and then 'add' a variant part.
    Thus a single insert has an invariant part (the table and specific columns) and a variant part (the data for each row by column.)
    You can use anything that is valid SQL (for jdbc, driver, database) and use it presuming your database allows that particular usage in batching. But that does require some regular pattern - it won't work if your usage is random. Nor will it work if some statements need to be executed only some of the time. Finally also note that transaction processing will often require smaller chunks - you can't insert a million rows in one batch.

  • DVDSP preset question with batch processing.

    I hope someone can help.
    When I drag my files that I want to batch process, where I can
    choose the output, for example DVD HD, etc.
    These presets have different times with them for video, like 120, 190, or even 30.
    My question is, what is the difference between them? Does any of them produce better quality of the video?
    My video files are .avi files and run about 30 minutes.
    Also, does it matter which I choose as far as HD DVD, DVD best quality, etc., if these are already .avi files or just choose DVD HD and have the best quality possible?
    Thank you for any help that is given.

    About the numbers, the 30, 120, 190, etc. What do
    those numbers mean?
    Are they minutes? And if they are minutes, does that
    mean it goes by how a regular dvd has minutes on it
    or does it go by how long each file is, or total size
    of project?
    What those numbers mean are the amount of material that will fit on a DVD-5 based on the encoding settings, so in other words if you choose 120 it means that about 2 Hrs of running time of video will fit on the DVD encoded at that rate. Normal and high quality are whether it is a one pass or two pass
    I am still a little confused.
    I have 10 .avi files. Each one is about 30 minutes
    long and is about 300mb.
    I am unsure on what video setting or settings to use
    that will allow me to have at least the same quality
    as the files already are.
    Encoding will reduce the quality, sometimes you may notice, other times not, but you have about 6 hours worth of material there. Depedning on what it is you can make a DVD-9, but unless it is very low motion probably not a DVD-5 (Also 300 Megs for 30 minutes of material (and I have not looked at new avi codecs recently) sounds like the material is already compressed heavily
    To give you a rough idea, DV which is what comes from many consumer cameras with firewire, is compressed at a rate of about 5:1 already, and 9 minutes 20 seconds is just shy of 2 Gigs, so 30 minutes would be in the area of 6 Gigs of DV (or about 18 times the size of your files)
    i have already done the audio portion of each file so
    the video portions are all I need to do now.
    Best thing to do is play with the settings, test small sections where there is less motion and more motion. In general 2-Pass is going to provide you with better results than one pass

  • Complicated question: dialog box-batch processing script

    I am adapting the working script I found on this forum.
    Script: Open files as layers in Photoshop
    https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1313579
    The goal of the adaptation is to include a javascript Folder dialog to set the save folder destination at run time and
    use this folder destination for the remaining script batch processing functions.
    Presently, the script loads a Bridge stack as Photoshop layers and saves the layered tiff using the Folder dialog.
    The folder dialog is manifesting every time the script encounters a Bridge stack.
    The question is what is the correct script logic to set the destination folder once at run time and keep this destination
    folder for the stack batch processing.
    #target bridge
    var stacks = app.document.stacks;
    var stackCount = stacks.length;
    for(var s = 0;s<stackCount;s++){
          var stackFiles = getStackFiles( stacks[s] );
          if(stackFiles.length> 1){
               var bt = new BridgeTalk;
               bt.target = "photoshop";
               var myScript = ("var ftn = " + psRemote.toSource() + "; ftn("+stackFiles.toSource()+");");
               bt.body = myScript;
               bt.send(5);
    function getStackFiles( stack ){
          var files = new Array();
          for( var f = 0; f<stack.thumbnails.length;f++){
               files.push(stack.thumbnails[f].spec);
          return files;
    function psRemote(stackFiles){
    app.bringToFront();
    var thisDoc = open(File(stackFiles[0]));
    var Name = decodeURI(app.activeDocument.name).slice(0,-4);
    thisDoc.layers[0].name = decodeURI(Name);
    for(var a = 1;a<stackFiles.length;a++){
        open(File(stackFiles[a]));
        Name = decodeURI(app.activeDocument.name).slice(0,-4);
        activeDocument.activeLayer.duplicate(thisDoc);
        app.activeDocument.close(SaveOptions.DONOTSAVECHANGES);
        thisDoc.layers[0].name = Name;
    var tifOptions = new TiffSaveOptions();
    tifOptions = new TiffSaveOptions();
    tifOptions.embedColorProfile = true;
    tifOptions.imageCompression = TIFFEncoding.TIFFLZW;
    tifOptions.alphaChannels = false;
    tifOptions.byteOrder = ByteOrder.MACOS;
    tifOptions.layers = true;
    var theFolder = Folder.selectDialog ("Select Folder");
    if (theFolder) {
            var myFile = new File( theFolder + "/" + app.activeDocument.name);
            app.activeDocument.saveAs(myFile, tifOptions, true);
    app.activeDocument.close(SaveOptions.DONOTSAVECHANGES);

    I am thinking the Folder dialog is not correct for this application.
    On a second thought a persistent dialog to set the save folder path and run the script from the persistent dialog can make sense.
    Any ideas?

  • Batch Process Export As and Save As JPEG Question?

    What is the method for creating scaled JPEGs from PNG files with batch processing (File | Batch Process...)?
    Application environment: Fireworks CS4.
    Using History panel, I manually captured instructions
    Modify | Transform | Numeric Transform (13%)
    Modify | Canvas | Fit Canvas
    File | Save As (JPEG)
    History panel's saved JavaScript file script:
    fw.getDocumentDOM().scaleSelection(0.11999999731779099, 0.11999999731779099, "autoTrimImages transformAttributes");
    fw.getDocumentDOM().setDocumentCanvasSizeToDocumentExtents(true);
    fw.saveDocumentAs(null, true);
    Running this sequence as a batch job requires manually selecting JPEG and "okaying"
    CS4 documentation for saveDocumentAs is defined with different argument list: fw.saveDocumentAs(document) .  CS4 documentation also has: fw.exportDocumentAs(document, fileURL, exportOptions) to export JPEG (80% quality).  CS4 feature File | Image Preview... | Export does not create a history record for guidance.  I cannot find an example of either instruction save a file to a local folder in JPEG format.  My objective is to add an additional batch step Rename (prefix) for the JPEG output, and script this a a batch process.

    Joyce,
    Thank you.  Your suggestion helped clear my mental log jam.
    Fireworks batch scripting seems to work in reverse.
    Using "Batch Process..." scripting interface 'Export' (as JPEG) option first, 'Rename' (add Prefix) option second, and then follow these by using the history panel's 2 previously saved steps (Numeric Transform, Fit Canvas), batch process now works.  PNG file (list) is saved in targeted folder as a reduced scale JPEG with a prefixed file name.
    Batch Process allows the entire newly defined command sequence to be saved (script.js).  Placing this (renamed) file into Firework's batch look-up directory for scripts (C:\Documents and Settings\account_name\Application Data\Adobe\Fireworks CS4\Commands) does not work.  The file name does not display in "Batch Process" window "Batch options:" Commands drop-down list.
    Batch Process only works by recreating the above steps each use.
    The new (JavaScript) file is 26 KB.  Is script file size limited in Fireworks "Batch options:" feature?

  • Batch Processing Multiple Folders Question...

    Hi,
    I process multiple folders full of images using the "Include All SubFolders" option under File->Automate-Batch.
    It works flawlessly when all the folders I need to process are under the same folder. Example:
    /images/folder_a
    /images/folder_b
    /images/folder_c
    I am wondering if there is a way to nominate multiple folders that are NOT all in the same folder (so I can fire off a batch process over night).
    Example:
    /images/folder_a
    /temp/folder_b
    /photos/folder_c
    Is there any way to use my action as a Batch Process for these at the same time (without moving the images, or folders)?
    (PS CS3 10.0.1, OSX 10.5.5, JS for Scripts)
    Thanks,
    Matt

    What about folder actions: you should need a script that runs a PS action on all images in the current folder (and embedded subfolders) only. Then you should be able to use folder actions to launch the script, which runs the action.
    Not like I've done this, but...
    You might also look into automator. If you can build the action in PS (which it seems you can), either of these two features might help with the rest.

  • Question about Batch processes in CS4

    Hello everyone,
    I was hoping there's a solution to my problem. My laptop's MoBo died recently so I wil be retrieving data from my HDD via another laptop. I created a Batch process in CS4 to resize and perform a few more actions on pictures. I was hoping to save that Batch process without having to recreate it. Are batch processes made by the user saved in a particular folder that I can just go into and copy?
    Thanks in advance for your help!
    Riley

    Did you save the action as an *.atn file using the context menu of the palette?
    If not, then the action is only "present" in one of the preferences files, together with all the other preferences.
    You can try to copy the preferences files, but I don't know whether the action will "come to life".
    Of course it must be the same version of photoshop on your other PC.

  • Batch process to add Javascript to PDF files

    Hi All,
    I have written a small piece of Javascript for my PDF files. The idea is to add a date stamp to each page of the document before printing. To do this, I have added the following code to the "Document Will Print" action:
    for (var pageNumber = 0; pageNumber < this.numPages; pageNumber++)
    var dateStamp = this.addField("Date","text",pageNumber,[700,10,500,40]);
    dateStamp.textSize=8;
    dateStamp.value = "Date Printed: " + util.printd("dd/mmm/yyyy",new Date());
    My question is this: Does anyone know of a way to batch process a whole directory (of around 600 PDF's) to insert my Javascript into the "Document Will Print" action of each file?
    Many thanks for any information you may have.
    Kind regards,
    Aaron

    > Can I just confirm a few things please? Firstly, should I be going into "Batch Sequences" -> "New Sequence" and selecting "Execute JavaScript" as my sequence type?
    Yes, you are creating new batch sequence that will use JavaScript.
    > My second question is, how can I insert my body of script into the variable "cScript"? I have quotation marks and other symbols that I imagine I will have to escape if I wish to do this?
    You ca either use different quotation marks or us the JavaScript escape character '\' to insert quotation marks
    Your will print code will only work for a full version of Acrobat and not Reader, because Reader will not allow the addition of fields. Also each time you print you will be creating duplicate copies of the field. So it might be better to add the form field only in the batch process and then just add the script to populate the date field in the WillPrint action.
    // add form field to each page of the PDF
    for (var pageNumber = 0; pageNumber < this.numPages; pageNumber++)
    var dateStamp = this.addField("Date","text",pageNumber,[700,10,500,40]);
    dateStamp.textSize=8;
    this.setAction("WillPrint", "dateStamp.value = \"Date Printed: \" + util.printd(\"dd/mmm/yyyy\",\new Date());");

  • Please Help, Issues when batch processing Multi Frame images in Fireworks

    I hope someone will know how to do this and tell me where I am going wrong.
    Objective 1
    I have a large number of images that all have the exact same number of frames (4) and are all exactly the same size that I want to get resized, cropped and water marked (when I say 'watermarked I mean have my websites logo pasted in a specificlocation on each frame, I have my websites logo as a seperate .png file which I copy from).
    Current Process
    I create a command which will crop the image then paste my companys url/log onto the first frame, move it to the correct location on the frame then copy it again and then paste it onto each of the other frames, the command then resizes the image tot he exact proportions I want.
    I start a batch process and use my command, making sure that I also export from the .png to animated gif (and I edit the settings to make it 256 animated gif).
    Error 1
    The process described above resizes and crops my images however it does NOT put the watermark in the correct place, it seems to put it int he right place on the first frame and then in a different place on all the followingn frames thus giving the effect of the watermark jumping around. Which is obviously NOT what I want.
    Question 1
    Please let me know what process I should be following to correct the Error 1 above.
    Objective & Question 2
    I want to do exactly the same thing as shown above but this time the files have a varying number of frames (from 2 to 45 frames (or instances as CS4 seems to call them)). Is there a way to paste my logo to the to the exact same location on ALL frames?
    Other information
    I have tried WHXY Paste extension and I can not see how to use that to solve the issue. I have also tried 'Paste in Place' however I can not see how to use the Paste In Place extension as it is not appering in my list of commands.
    Many thanks in advance for your help.
    Andy

    Andy, you could start a batch process which will do most of the things you are asking for. THe batch process can be done using Fireworks. The right way to start is going to Archivo / Procesar por Lotes and then follow all the different option this tool has to offer.  Yes, I know I gave you the names in Spanish but that is the way I use Adobe Fireworks.
    I hope this was usefull for you!

  • Can I use Organizer to change the .jpg size of all photos in a folder in one batch process?

    We're using wa-a-ay too much disk space for a growing photo collection.   My daughter is a camera freak with four kids -- need I say more?
    In my current test folder the sizes of the original photos range from 2.3 MB to 4.2 MB.  I picked one photo at random and printed the original and then three more, saved by PSE9 as .jpg files at maximum, middle, and minimum quality settings on plain letter-size paper, and again on 4x6 photo paper.  It takes a magnifying glass and a calibrated eyeball to detect a difference on the plain paper, and it's even more difficult on the photo paper.  I think I should relieve the pressure on the hard drive's capacity by reducing everything to a more reasonable size; after all, the minimum-quality print takes up less than one percent of the disk space as does the maximum-quality print.
    I have a hunch that I can accomplish this in a batch process with Organizer, but that's all I have is the hunch -- not the know-how.   I would like someone to step me through the process.
    I also expect a lecture on why I shouldn't do this.  Go for it; I'll listen.
    Thanks,  Bud

    You are the one to judge... Will you regret it if you want to use some pictures with the original size and resolution at a later time?
    Yes, you can use either the organizer or the 'process multiple files' command of the editor. But first you should think about two questions:
    - Are you ready to backup the full resolution and size files before the 'shrinking'? External USB drives with big capacities are available and affordable.
    - From what you are saying, the optimal size would be for files resized for 4" x 6" format at 300 ppi in jpeg quality 8 to 10.
    Resizing from the Editor: Use the 'process multiple files' command and click the 'Same as source' button. I would not do it without a sound backup first... This can be done folder by folder.
    Resizing from the Organizer : Use the 'Export' command. That command leaves the original and puts the resulting files in a new folder. The resulting files are NOT included in the catalog.This means that keeping your organization (categories, albums, tags...) will be tricky; same if you are using a folder organization system.
    Another solution with a third party software such as Faststone photo resizer:
    - Absolutely do a full backup before
    - run the resizing options in the external software so that the files are resized without being moved. That replaces the originals.
    - If you are using the organizer, your organization will be kept, but the file sizes in the catalog and thumbnail databases will be wrong. You can regenerate the thumbnail cache by deleting the thumbs.5.cache file in your catalog folder; it will be automatically rebuilt.
    That has worked for me in the past... no guarantee for you!

  • How to add or remove silence at the beging and at end of each audio file using batch process

    Hi all,
    I am new to this forum. I have been using Audition 3 for the last couple of years and these days I have to coop with an extra difficult situation, which is; I have more than 2000 files that start and finish with a random length of silence, it varies 0 to 7 sec. My question is, how can I set the silent duration at the beginning and end of each file to a constant amount of 2 sec by using batch process?
    Kind regards,
    Pavlos

    >it's relatively easy to select an absolute time at the beginning of a file (we discovered how to do this a while back), the same technique simply doesn't work at all at the end of it
    Indeed! I had a few trials last couple of days and noticed it.
    Definitely we need help on Audition's scripting language from the people in Adobe. Why don't they produce a scripting language documentation?!

  • How to : only one user in a branch can do the batch process at a time ?

    dear gurus,
    In ADF web application, accessed by multiple branch (20), there is a
    batch process to create invoices from orders. There are 3-5 users in a
    branch. one user can process about 30 - 50 orders to become
    invoices.
    Business rule is : In one batch process, each users must produce
    invoices with gapless invoice number. e.g : user_1 create 30 invoices
    no.001 - 030, user_2 create 40 invoices no.031-070 ... and so on...
    So we want to protect that at a time, in one branch, only one user can
    do the batch process. User_2 must wait until user_1 is done to start
    the process.
    We use the table below to maintain the latest invoice number created :
    CREATE TABLE doc_number
    DOC_TYPE VARCHAR2(6 BYTE) NOT NULL,
    BRANCH_CODE VARCHAR2(6 BYTE) NOT NULL,
    DOC_NBR NUMBER(12) DEFAULT 0,
    CONSTRAINT "DOC_NUMBER_PK" PRIMARY KEY (DOC_TYPE, BRANCH_CODE)
    The question is :
    I think of locking a spicific row of the doc_number table (select ...
    for update wait 10) at the beginning of the batch process stored
    procedure.
    But what if the session/connection left orphan and the row is lockde
    forever before the dba kill it ?
    So is there a better approach to limit the user execution of the
    process ?
    Thank you very much for your help,
    Krist

    Forget it. See http://asktom.oracle.com/pls/asktom/f?p=100:11:0::::P11_QUESTION_ID:4343369880986.
    However, if you are dead set on doing this old fashioned thing of trying to emulate paper invoices from a numbered tablet, you could always just let everyone generate all of their invoices with no invoice number whenever they want, then at some time ( say 21:00 every day), take a lock on the table and apply invoice numbers to all of the records with a null invoice number -- which will take only a few centiseconds at most. And let the users/system print only invoices that have numbers assigned. This way, you pretty much eliminate the concurrency issue of various branches generating invoices only in their time window -- yuk, what an awful way to have to do business.
    And completely forget about users or branches having their own range of numbers. That is completely nuts. Your database already knows which branch owns which invoice, right??
