Batch sequence to 'flatten' xfa form to static non-interactive AcroForm

Hi,
I'm looking for a way to flatten a bunch of xfa forms in a batch sequence. The result being the exact same as printing to pdf.
I believe I use to just add optimizer settings in the sequence editor and that would do the trick. But now I'm getting an error saying optimization settings cannot be applied to an xfa form.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
Kyle

Actually George I found a solution. They are dynamic xfa forms. I realized that the pdf printer settings has an option to suppress the save as dialog and default the output flat pdfs to a location of my choosing. I just set the pdf printer as my default printer and run a batch sequence to print the dynamic pdfs.
It requires a decent system with lots of memory since an instance of Acrobat is opened for every pdf processed but it does the trick!
I appreciate your response.

    Hi,

    could you please tell me if it is possible via Coldfusion.I would be great if you could share sample code\approach to do this.

    Hi,
    you have several options.
    1)     Print the form with a PDF printer — Produces a completely non-interactive PDF file with a very small file size
    2)     Use JavaScript to lock down all or specific form fields — can also be combinated with password protection and preserves the interactivity of the form for further changes

  • Contradiction form error in non interactive adobe forms.

    HI All,
    I am woriking on a non interactive adobe forms generation program in ABAP.
    The program uses a variant and generate pdf forms for all the list items on the varient.
    Note: I am not using Webdynpro its the normal pdf generation.
    The problem I am facing is that when the varient has a list of more records at some point of time it generates the contradiction form error and terminates. if I alter the varient so that the list is minimal then there is no problem with that.
    I know that the Contradiction form error occurs when the pdf generation is open and there is another request to open a new form before closing the previous call. but when the varient has minimal data there is no problem with that, my assumption here is the data volume or such which causes the problem.
    Does somebody came accross such an issue earlier or if you have a solution approach please do share it with me.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Sai Krishna.

  • Problem when generating an non-interactive form in Web Dynpro java.

    Hi,
    I'm trying to create a PDFDocument using a creation context in java. Everything works fine when the Interactive property of the creation context is set to true. When I change it to false however, the Web dynpro application hangs and eventually throws the following exception:
    java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out
       at java.net.SocketInputStream.socketRead0(Native Method)
       at java.net.SocketInputStream.read(SocketInputStream.java:129)

       at java.io.BufferedInputStream.read(BufferedInputStream.java:201)
       at com.sap.engine.services.webservices.jaxm.soap.HTTPSocket.readLine(HTTPSocket.java:806)
    I'm wondering why this exception occurs when i'm generating a non interactive form and never appears when i'm generating a form with the Interactive property set to true.
    Any ideas?

    Yeah I know changing the form properties will solve my problem, but since i'm developing a training for Interactive Forms in Web Dynpro Java, I wanted to figure out why the (static / non-interactive) combination didn't work, turned out to be a template problem, which i still didn't figure out, except the fact that having flowed content on your template is not the problem.
    My ideas about your question:
    When we have the layout of an Interactive Form, its clear if it's meant to be static or dynamic, we don't know however, if it's interactive or non-interactive.
    I don't think we can judge a layout to have an Interactive or non-interactive purpose, can depend on the situation in which the same form is shown/used:
    - One moment it can be interactive, e.g. user is filling in the form, can enter data etc.
    - Next moment it can be non-interactive, e.g. form is shown to another user.
    So it's more the scenario/situation that determines if the form is interactive or non-interactive.

  • Saving Interactive form as non Interactive

    Hi,
    Do we have  a way that when we save a Adobe Interactive form , it gets saved as a non-interactive form.

    hi,
    the Interactive Form UI element has a property..."Enabled"
    true->interactive
    false->non-interactive
    bind this property to a context attribute of type....boolean.
    whenever you want to make the interactive form... non-interactive.... just set the bound context attribute to "false".

  • Can't export a PDF with XFA form

    Cannot convert/export a PDF document containing an SFA form - can this program not do this?

    Hi Morin27,
    XFA forms are not regular PDF's but XML files in a PDF shell.
    To create a word file from those files, you first have to flatten the XFA forms by printing as PDF with the Adobe PDF Printer.
    Then you can save using ExportPDF the created static PDF as Word document.

  • When will Adobe Reader for iOS support Livecycle XFA forms?

    Adobe Reader for iOS currently does not appear to support XFA forms created through Livecycle. Although it supports some field types, the HTTP submit and Email submit buttons don't work.
    Being able to email the completed form ready for someone else to submit would be a work around, however when attempting to 'share' a completed form and send it by email the form is blank when saved and opened in the desktop version of Adobe Reader on a PC.
    We are getting more and more requests from ipad users who wish to use our forms, and it seems that some other paid-for apps claim to support this. Seeing as Adobe Reader is the industry standard product for using PDFs could we have more support for pdf forms please?
    ...or at the very least, a product roadmap with some dates for when this might be available please?

    There are two basic varieties of LiveCycle XFA...Static XFA and Dynamic XFA, which are very different in terms of their future for potential support in Adobe Reader for iOS. Which variety of XFA are you using?
    Static XFA uses the PDF markup language for content and form fields, so users can view the documents in Adobe Reader for iOS, but we currently do not properly handle filling, saving, and submitting those forms. I have improving our handling of Static XFA on my roadmap, but cannot offer any specific date yet (sorry, policy plus actual uncertainty). I know that there are some other apps that partially support Static XFA, though I do not know how complete their support is. If you can even open the XFA document in Adobe Reader for iOS, it is likely Static XFA.
    Dynamic XFA is effectively a JavaScript application packaged inside a PDF wrapper, which generates layout and form fields via code and requires a significant engine to support this. Support for Dynamic XFA is unfortunately not currently on our roadmap for iOS due to the nature of the technology, and our concern that any implementation we try likely will not pass Apple's restriction against installing something that allows other "apps" to be downloaded and executed from within it. The LiveCycle team is exploring solutions for our enterprise customers wanting to use Dynamic XFA from mobile devices as part of their server offering, but I cannot offer any insight here. To my knowledge, there are no applications that handle Dynamic XFA other than Adobe Reader for the desktop platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux).

  • Using "automating batch sequence" query

    Hi,
    I am trying to add text content to an area of the page in a group of pdf files without having to open each file. I am not replacing existing text. After checking,  I could not find a batch sequence to do this in Acrobat v7.1. Could this feature be available in Acrobat v9.?  and/or would I have to use the (acrobat v7.SDK) to create a script and plug in to do this? or if not, in Acrobat v.9, use the SDK to create the script and plugin?  I would appreciate any information.
    thanks,
    je112

    It's not possible to just add running text to a PDF using a batch process or a script. What you can do is insert a field with text and then flatten it.
    This will have a result similar to adding text to the document, but it will not be an integral part of the running text (ie the text you add will not "push" the rest of the text forward).

  • Example of running a batch sequence without Evermap

    Good afternoon
    I am trying to run a batch sequence in Acrobat X from a button on a form in MS Access.
    I am aware that it is not possible to run a batch sequence (action) from the command line - you need to purchase Adobe's partner Evermap's AutoBatch to do this - but is it possible to recreate all of the menu selections etc. using the SDK?
    I know that Evermap provides this facility but has anyone else created the code to do this?
    It seems like it would be a really useful tool for Adobe to add to Acrobat but then I am not aware of the reasons why they have chosen to leave it out.
    Many thanks,
    Martin.

    Okay, but Evermap (the Adobe Solutions Partner) have developed and are selling a plugin that allows people to run batch sequences from the command line.
    Why do Adobe allow a plugin that allows enhanced command line options but then not incorporate the option as part of Acrobat as standard?
    On the one hand I hear Adobe saying that you cannot run enhanced command line options due to technical and legal issues but then on the other we see Adobe's Soutions Partner selling a plugin to do exactly that.
    Can you please unconfuse me?

  • Import/Export xml data from subtree of dynamic XFA form

    Hi
    We would like to import/export xml data (subtree) of a dynamic xfa form. The following script does only work with static AcroForms:
    formular.content.subformDaten.Button1[1]::click - (JavaScript, client)
    event.target.exportAsXFDF({aFields:["formular[0].content[0].subformDaten[0]"]});
    With dynamic forms the script does export an empty xml file (no data is included, only xml root tag):

    Best regards,
    Daniel

    Hi Paul
    The Problem that Daniel posted was originally mine. Now after subscribing to this forum myself, I try to describe the aim of using exportAsXFDF/importAnXFDF.
    exportData("", false) and exportXFAData works, in my opinion, only with a DataConnection. In my form I have indeed such a connection for sending the whole form. But in addition I need the possibility to export and import only part of the data without overwriting the rest of the filled form.
    exportAsXFDF works with static forms. So there MUST be a possibility that works with dynamic forms, right?
    I hope anyone has a solution.

  • Batch Sequence Problem

    I am using Acrobat 9.4. I have a JavaScript that runs a batch sequence to create pop-up tool tips for certain words and phrases. The sequence works properly on most PDF files. I have a problem that on one basic PDF file the batch sequence properly creates the pop-ups but in the process converts the file to a PDF Form. The JavaScript author believes the problem must be that Acrobat adds Form Fields to the basic PDF file during the sequence operation and then thinks the file is a PDF Form. Is there any way to stop this from happening?

    Technically, a document with just a single button is a form. If you mean that the Forms document message bar appears, then that's a known problem. There is a user preference that controls whether the message bar is shown, but it's up to the user to set it.
    Without seeing the code, it seems apparent that it does add some type of form fields to the document to implement the tooltips and that is indeed the reason you're seeing the mesage bar.

  • Javascript in batch sequence

    I've done some Acrobat scripting but mostly through VB and I'm able to write what I need but I want to have it as part of my operator's Acrobat instead of the of separate program. That said, I want to write a Java script that I can include in batch sequence.
    I need to add a page to the start of a document and I want to have that page be nubered "a" without disturbing the numbering else where in the file. By simply adding the page at the start with the batch sequence it adopts the numbering of the first page. So if the first page is numbered as "i" then the new inserted page gets numbered "i" and the rest of the numbering changes, what was i becomes ii, what was ii becomes iii, and so on. I'm able to script this in VB by adding the page at the end, renumber them using the SetPageLabels from a Javascript object, then moving the page to the beginning.
    Is there any documentation on using Javascript within a batch sequence?
    Thanks,
    Ken

    Well, hacking along here working in the console pasting my code in.
    The script adds a single page from another Acrobat file to the start of the open PDF. I need the page that goes in at the front to be numbered "a" and NOT effect numbering in the rest of the pages. Some files work fine, other files not so much, like the Javascript API reference PDF as well as other PDFs we've created here form InDesign.
    The script inserts a page at the end of the PDF and numbers that page "a" then moves it to the start of the document. The problem occurs when the page is moved to the start, it changes the number of all the other pages to follow page "a" which is a bit of a silly thing to have to send my clients. I decided to compromise and if the first page (before I insert the anything) was numeric I would simply try changing things to start page 1 after my inserted page "a".
    My code looks like this:
    var NumPages = this.numPages
    var PgLabel = this.getPageLabel(0)
    this.insertPages(NumPages-1, "/F/TNTSTUFF/Disclaimers/HUP_ProofNotice.pdf")
    this.setPageLabels(NumPages,["a", "", 1]);
    this.movePage(NumPages, -1)
    if (PgLabel.match("((-|\\+)?[0-9]+(\\.[0-9]+)?)+")) {
            this.setPageLabels(1, ["1", "", 1]);
    However, the setPageLabels command is causing this error:
    RaiseError: The base pages object is missing or invalid.
    Doc.setPageLabels:7:Console undefined:Exec
    ===> The base pages object is missing or invalid.
    I'm not sure it is relavent, but on the files that work the numbering in Acrobat looks like this with the parentheical numbers:
    Files that DON'T work look like this, with NO parenthetical:
    Even if I manually renumber the pages starting with 2 to make the numbering in the 2nd file look more like the numbering in the first file, I still get the error.
    Is there a way I can overcome this with Java code and what the heck is it?
    Thanks again to anyone who can help.
    Best,
    Ken

  • Dynamic xfa form - digital signature becomes invalid

    Greetings forum,
    I have question regarding dynamic xfa forms and hope, that you can help me.
    I filled a pdf form based on a dynamic xfa form (with extended rights for Reader user) using iText. When the content of the PDF is changed, the digital signature becomes unvalid, so that the rights are no longer vaild.
    Therefore Adobe Reader (9.0) does not save the PDF. I get the following error message:
    "This document contained certain rights to enable special features in  Adobe Reader. The document has been changed since it was created and these rights are  no longer valid. Please contact the author for the original version of this document."
    I tried the following workaround with itext:
    PdfStamper stamper = new PdfStamper(reader, new FileOutputStream(RESULT), '\0', true);
    (http://1t3xt.info/tutorials/faq.php?branch=faq.itext&node=enabled_form),
    but I doesn't seem to work.
    As a result, the rights are valid but the content of the PDF wasn't changed.
    Is there any workaround for that or does it only work static xfa forms/acroforms?
    Many thanks for you support!
    Irina2000

    Sounds like you tried to fill in a form using Acrobat without the form feature use. Actually iText from what I can see is not using Acrobat, but a third party product. To fill in the form, you simply use the hand tool to move over a form field where the tool will change to an Ibeam or similar pointer tool. Select the field and type in the data. That should not make any changes to the PDF in the sense that has been stated. I have no clue where iText comes into the picture.
