Convert XFA form to static PDF

Hi,
I have few XFA form and i wanted to convert them to static pdf.
could you please tell me if it is possible via Coldfusion.I would be great if you could share sample code\approach to do this.
regards
Pushpendra

Hi,
you have several options.
1)     Print the form with a PDF printer — Produces a completely non-interactive PDF file with a very small file size
2)     Use JavaScript to lock down all or specific form fields — can also be combinated with password protection and preserves the interactivity of the form for further changes
A sample can be found here http://forums.adobe.com/message/1921613#1921613

  • How to programatically convert XDP form into Dynamic PDF form

    Hi,
Is there a way to programatically convert XDP form into Dynamic PDF form using LiveCycle Service APIs?

Take a look at http://help.adobe.com/en_US/livecycle/9.0/programLC/help/index.html and the API Quick Starts > Output Service API Quick Starts.

  • Converting an Acrobat 8  (Static) PDF form to an Acrobat 8 (Dynamic) XML Form

We have a PDF file that started in MS Word 2007. The form was then saved as an Acrobat 8 (Static) PDF form. Is there a way to save this form to a dynamic XML form so all users can utilize the text boxes and drop down menus? At this time, only Acrobat Pro users have the ability.
    Thanks,
    Tim

If the form has dynamic fields added to it then even users using the free Adobe Reader will be able to fill in the form. However, if it is save-off-line that you are looking for then you will need to extend the form using Reader Extensions.
Can you be more specific about your requirements?

  • Converting dynamic form to static

Hi I am new to Livecyle designer (8.0) and I have created a dynamic form which expands as users complete it.  However I need to be able to combine these forms into one PDF not as a package to form a final report.
Is there some way that the when the PDF is sent by e-mail it can be sent back as a static form?  Or how do I convert the completed dynamic form to a static form which I can combine?

  • Batch sequence to 'flatten' xfa form to static non-interactive AcroForm

    Hi,
I'm looking for a way to flatten a bunch of xfa forms in a batch sequence. The result being the exact same as printing to pdf.
I believe I use to just add optimizer settings in the sequence editor and that would do the trick. But now I'm getting an error saying optimization settings cannot be applied to an xfa form.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Kyle

Actually George I found a solution. They are dynamic xfa forms. I realized that the pdf printer settings has an option to suppress the save as dialog and default the output flat pdfs to a location of my choosing. I just set the pdf printer as my default printer and run a batch sequence to print the dynamic pdfs.
It requires a decent system with lots of memory since an instance of Acrobat is opened for every pdf processed but it does the trick!
    I appreciate your response.

  • Convert XFA-Forms in AcroForms

    Hello,
is there a possibility to convert a pdf which contains a xml form to an pdf with the same form as AcroForm?
Background: I want to create a form with the designer but I need a pdf with acroform without xml form because there is an acrobat plugin which need acroform
    Chris ;-)

You can do it but its quite a job and in a way it will be like designing the form twice. First, you will add and layout all your fields in Designer. Then once you are happy with the layout, you need to PRINT the form to PDF (Note: this is Print and not Save As). It will then be a flat page with no fields on it. Then you can open that flat PDF in Acrobat and then add the fields again where the old fields used to be. None of the Designer functionality will exist in this new form so you cant add scripts in designer and bring them into the Acroform. Scripts will need to be added in Acrobat itself.

  • Convert XFA form to PDF document

Within a process, I have form defined as a xfa variable and user can fill it in workspace and also include attachment when submitting the form.
Then after the form is processed, approved by manager I need to convert it to a pdf(which should contain attachments) and save it to a folder. how can I do that?
    Thanks.

There is another way but it's a manual process and it's a HACK. Using this process will basically kill any XFA or JS functionality that was in the form previously. So proceed at your own risk...
Use a tool that can view and edit the internals of a "static" LiveCycle PDF form (i.e. Windjack's PDFCanOpener).
    Delete the XFA dictionary
Do a SaveAs to a new form name.
    Close the form
Re-open the form and then you should be able to edit the form with the Acroform tools.
Note: This WILL NOT work with dynamic forms.

  • Converting smart forms as a pdf in different languages

    Hi Experts,
I have been created a smart form and later on i converted it to in pdf also, but how can i convert a smart form output into different languages (English(defualt), German, Italian, French, Spanish,). Can anyone tell me about the idea behind this or a simple demo program???????????
do i need to maintain each text on the smart form into these languages already through SE63 or somewhere any idea that can help me without translating the whole text into those languages, could be able to do pdf conversion.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Shakun

The OTF data needs to already be in the target language - the conversion process is a process of changing the document format only, not a translation tool.

  • Is there a way to merge Static PDF files and PDF Forms

    Hi All,
The issue I am facing is this: 1200+ PDF forms that employees
will need to sign. The docs are being created in MS Word, and all
have a standard signature block. We have prototyped using LiveCycle
Designer 8 to add fields to static PDF files (print Word files into
Acrobat, import into LiveCycle and paste in fields) but this is
pretty labor-intensive to use with a minimum of 1200 forms per
    quarter.
The employee forms go into a CF8/Oracle library app (stored
as BLOBs) and served up for 7,000 or so employees to sign. Posted
    data goes back into database.
    Here is the issue:
Does anyone know any way to use some combination of cfpdf /
cfpdfform / cfdocument that will allow us to create ONE generic
signature block form, 1200 static PDF files, and merge them on the
    fly?
<cfdocument> apparently does not allow PDF data to be
included with a <cfpdfform>, as I have tried outputting PDF
variables, toBinary(PDF variable), PDF served by <cfcontent>
    and various other combinations.
(If the non-form data were HTML, we could easily output in a
<cfdocumentsection> of the cfdocument, and add the
    <cfpdfform source="#genericForm#" action="populate"> and be
done with it. But, we can't.)
    <cfpdf action="merge"> with a combination of a static
PDF file and a populated form results in a flattend PDF file with
    no form data.
I am acutely aware that LiveCycle 8 uses the XFA schema, and
regular PDF documents use a different schema. And, this may
prohibit what we want to do.
If anyone has experience with CF8 PDFs and PDF forms, or has
any helpful thoughts, I would be appreciatively gross. Needless to
say, this is a six month project that must be live at the end
    November.
    Thanks!

As I mentioned on the other thread, the forms need to be
flattened. CFPDF cannot flatten LiveCycle forms, only Acrobat
Forms. The suggested solution was to use LiveCycle ES

  • Keep getting failure msg saying can't convert file containing XFA forms. help

I just purchased the adobe convert program to convert this one file I need now and it won't work!  it says it can't convert XFA forms. Help! How do I do this?

You can't. What it says is true, and it doesn't really matter what an XFA form is except that you have one.
But let's go back a step. Why do you need to convert? What is the problem you want to solve? XFA forms are designed to be filled in, printed, and have their fields exported - that's all, and all most people ever need too. Converting forms to other formats almost never solves the problem people think they have.

  • XFA Forms

I have tried to import a form that an error message pops up stating it is an XFA form.  What product to I need to edit this form?  Is it posslble to edit with Adobe Form?

    Hi;
A few things about the FormsCentral "Import PDF" feature:
    1) FormsCentral does not enable you to "edit" a PDF form.  A PDF form (AcroForm) can be imported to collect and manage responses through FormsCentral, when you distribute the Submission enabled PDF from FormsCentral a "Submit" button is added and the responses are collected through FormsCentral for analsys.  No changes can be made to that PDF in FormsCentral, it allows you to download a submit enabled version of that form that will submit responses to FormsCentral and creates a Response Table and Summary Report in FormsCentral to display the results data.
    2) XFA forms are not supported by FormsCentral
Adobe LiveCycle Designer is used to create/edit XFA forms: http://www.adobe.com/products/livecycle/tools/designer.html
Here is a little information on XFA forms vs flat PDF files and Acroforms: http://blogs.adobe.com/an_tai/archives/172

  • I am unable to convert a pdf file to word as I get the error message indicates it contains XFA forms

I am unable to convert a pdf file to word as I get the error message that pdf files containing XFA forms cannot be saved to the specified format.

    Hi curtlea,
XFA forms are not regular PDF's but XML files in a PDF shell.
To create a word file from those files, you first have to flatten the XFA forms by printing as PDF with the Adobe PDF Printer.
Then you can save using ExportPDF the created static PDF as Word document.
