Battery draining overnight

The last two nights, my iPhone's battery has run down completely without being used. Does this mean the battery needs replacing?

This should not happen even if you have 20% battery life left before going to bed unless you have something running like push email. You said you did not but double check. Also, are you in a solid 3G area? If your phone is between Edge and 3G where ever you place it when you go to bed, it will drain because the phone is working constantly to find a network. Try setting your phone to Edge (turn 3G off) at night and see if your phone then drains.
Is wifi turned off?
Is blue tooth turned off?
Is locations turned off?
Email set to manual? not still running after you close app? Push is set to off?
Phone solidly connected to 3G?
After a full charge my phone is about to go dead by force (monthly time to calibrate). I just checked usage: 2 plus days of standby with over 7 hours of total usage.
If something isn't causing your phone to drain, you might have a bad battery.
Let us know what you find out. It can be helpful to others.

  • Battery drain overnight

iphone 5s, my battery drains overnight when fully or partially charged. Incredibly frustrating! Any solutions?

First, try a reset by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again, in case there are some apps still running in the background. Then take a look at this article to find out if Mail or some other  social 3rd party apps are constantly refreshing in the background.

  • Full Battery Drain Overnight while Powered Off. -Defective Unit or?

I bought a new iPod Classic 80gb over the weekend and had charged it the same day via the included USB cable... Powered it off in the evening before going to bed by holding the play/pause button until the screen went black and I wake up the next morning to find that the battery is completely drained and the unit won't power up until its charged again.
Ok, so I figure this might just have been a fluke occurrence and that maybe I did something wrong in turning it off- but the EXACT same thing happened to me again this morning after doing a full charge just the previous night. I powered it off by holding play/pause as soon as it finished charging. Then I get into my car this morning ready to listen to some music on my commute and I get a message saying the battery is completely drained and it needs to be recharged...
How this has happened twice in 4 days I don't know, but hopefully someone may have an idea or might be experiencing the same thing? Am I doing something wrong? I haven't loaded anything other than music onto it and this has happened twice already since I bought it just a few days ago.
There is no video on it whatsoever and the battery has drained from 100% to 0% in a matter of 6 hours, while powered off, on two separate occasions.
I'd hate to think I just wasted $260+ dollars on a dud piece of equipment but if this persists I'll be returning it by week's end as it looks to be defective.

I bought Ipod Nano 2G and have the same problem, Charge 4 hours, then, when I use it , Ipod suddenly restart and the battery drains near to 98% of capacity, or when I power off the nano after use it, next morning or severals hours later, the battery is completly drain, and Ipod doesn't response, just response until I connect to USB port of my Computer or ITrip, and show the "extremely battery low message".
I use my ipod only in my car with my iTrip car, but some times y use it for some Long travels in plane, its works ok, but some days ago ( near to sept. /8 ) start with this failures.
Here some of my Hipotesis, It's may be related with the new software version 1.3.1 ? its install some days ago trought Itunes.
If the problem is the software? some one know if exist some software to downgrade the software from 1.3.1 to older version?
I found some things about this procedure , but only works to 1.2
    Sorry for my inglish.

  • IPad battery drained overnight; now it won't charge; what do I do?

My iPad (first issue) drained overnight and now it won't charge. Totally dead.
    What shall I do?

    Hello Christie,
With it still plugged in, try a hard reset to see if that helps.  To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.  This may or may not work the first time around, so be sure to try this at least a couple of times.

at 10 pm the battery was at 92%, and at 8 am it was 0 and the computer felt hot to the touch.
Here's the log from pmset below, but I'm wondering what's causing this power leak?? is this a Mavericks bug??

  • Battery Drained Overnight

I generally charge my Z10 at night and unplug when fully charged before going to bed. On some occasion, not all, I wake up in the morning to find the battery fully drained. I also notice that sometimes the phone gets really hot when on standby during the day and the battery drains faster than other times. What is going on?
I've read in another support thread it may have something to do with some of the apps. I've tried removing/deleting the apps I've downloaded but this is just a deterance, not a solution. Shouldn't Blackberry be testing the apps especially if it's affecting the performance of the handset?
I've read that it has something to do with the new OS update. Is there some kind of solution to this? Some setting I can change to rectify this drain/heating issue?
    Thanks.

BlackBerry are not testing the apps. It should be the developer who creat applications. Is your OS is up to date?

  • PB battery drained overnight while lid closed....any thoughts?

This was the first time I've experienced any problems with my PB. Last night I left the office and closed my lid as always. My PB was unplugged from land power. I watched, as I always do, the Apple light go off and my standby light come on, then I went home.
This morning I came in, opened it, logged in and immediately got a notice that the battery was low. I attached the power cord and noticed I had about 2% battery life left. Now, the only thing I can think of, since all known applications were closed, was that I connected to my network via CAT5 and not wifi. I'm wondering if something was going on over the ethernet??? I have no idea why my battery would have been drained overnite with the lid closed. I searched the logs and nothing strange pops up.
    Any thoughts?
    Tom

In general there is always a trickle drain happening even with the lid closed. Some applications may leave the Powerbook on, or wake it from sleep on a timed schedule. Turn off the lights to see if the Apple logo is lit to verify it did indeed shut off the screen. There have been known applications to be open that force the machine to keep the screen on even when the lid is closed.
The battery is technically known to last 5 hours on limited charge, that closed as you surmised is able to last longer. But how much longer varies depending on just how full the battery was before you unplugged it. The reading on the menubar of it being full is not necessarily accurate.
I would not leave it on Energy Saver overnight all the time. At least once a month leave it on screen saver instead. Unattended someone could also steal the machine in the middle of the night. I would not leave it unattended. Especially in an office environment it shouldn't be unattended unless under lock and key.

  • Battery drains overnight when accounts are set up

We've got 2 Playbooks in our house.. both are on the latest OS version. As soon as I add my Google account, the battery gets drained at approx 5% every 30 min. The back of the tablet is warm around the logo. As soon as I delete the account the power consumption + case temperature returns to normal.
I've tried this multiple times over the past 8 months (different OS versions) and always turn off push notifications, and set it to 'Manual' retrieve instead of any interval at all.
None of this makes any difference. I've read other threads (like this one) but still have the issue.
    Any ideas?
    Matt.

    Hi kinhell,
Just to clarify, does this happen with both BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablets?  Is this only with Gmail® accounts?
    Thanks.

  • IPad battery drained overnight after downloading iOS7, why?

I downloaded iOS7 on my iPad2 on Thursday 19 September. Everything worked fine after the download. When I opened the iPad on Friday morning, there was no battery life left. Am now charging it up, but don't know what caused this. Any suggestions?

No it doesn't need to be, but if it is on and isn't be used then it will drain the battery, likewise so will these:
    Wifi
Celluar data - if applicable to your iPad
    Location Services
Also of note is the following Settings>General>Background App Refresh - this is a new feature which can also use up additional battery power.

  • 8220 Battery drained overnight?!

So I had fully charged my battery last night, then i played around with wifi for a little bit and then that was it. I closed it and put it on my nightstand and went to bed. The next morning I wake up and it won't even turn on, I had to remove the backcover and battery and once it started up it said that battery was completely dead.
I don't understand how this could have happened as it wasn't touched for the past 10 hours? Anyone know any reasons this could have happened and how to prevent it??
I have not changed the way I used the program for the past 4 days since i got it and this is the first time it has happened. I close every program after I use it. I was considering doing an OS upgrade but I don't even know what hardware version I have right now and i'm scared to because of error reports people have been having from it lately.

I would not venture to upgrade the OS just yet.
Having a battery completely drain after initially getting the BB  is not so uncommon, as the battery AND the device are not always on the same calibration.
    Do this:
Leave the device to charge 2-3 hours, and then, still connected to the USB cable, remove the the battery from the device a few seconds and reinsert it. If it boots--leave it to charge to 100% (check Options > Status for the percentage).
If it doesn't boot--try using a wall outlet charger if you are not. If you are connected via USB to the PC, make certain that you have Desktop Manager (or the USB device drivers) installed, which you can download below.
Make certain your USB cable is connected to one of the PC's main rear USB ports. Not a USB hub, nor a monitor USB port, nor a USB port on the front of the PC.
    Download Desktop Manager from here:

  • My iphone 5 battery drains overnight

Even with wifi, bluetooth, and cellular data turned off. When I first turned everything off, it lasted 4 days on a charge, and now 100% to 0% while it sleeps. I reset all but didn't help.

    UPDATE !
Tonight i want to bed with 100% battery, had 8hours and 30min of sleep, i wake up and battery has only 75%.
Again i closed ALL apps, don't disturb mode ON and this time 3G and Bluetooth were turned OFF.
I'm realy asking myself: How can apple say this phone has a standby time of 225 hours if this phone loses 25% battery in 8hours standby ?
Simple calculation: my battery would on last for 40hours standby ... thats not even 20% of the hours that apple is telling !
    I'm sad

  • Battery draining overnight w 2.0 update

Since I updated my battery is depleting much faster! If it's near fully charged at night its almost dead in the morning! It also now makes a sound every so often but the screen will still be off. There is nothing in the settings I can see for power saving mode or to turn off any persistent applications that may be running.

I have discovered my battery length has greatly shortened by having monkey ball and enigmo, but thats only if I play them a lot.
You may want to recharge it and try not using any new apps (I know, hard to do) and see how long the phone lasts (such as idle time use time) compared to before the update.

I turn wifi off, I close all apps, and put in standby with the annoying button on the top, but in the morning, the battery is dead.
One thing I heard was the new video chat might cause a problem, but I've already accepted the click-through T&Cs.
    Help!

Do a restart on the Playbook...
press and hold ALL three top buttons (Power + Up volume + Down volume) simultaneously, for about ten seconds. See if the battery life increases over the next couple of days.

  • Battery drained overnight with no use.

    Charging normally now.
I'm wondering if it could be from my BT being on and near the phone? Or an open application (but don't those auto-terminated if not in use)?

  • Battery is draining overnight

I don't know if anyone else has had this problem, but my battery drains overnight. I usually charge my phone at the end of the day so the battery is full at night. But twice this week I've found that my battery was completely drained in the morning. The first time it happened, I thought maybe I forgot to hit the top button and send my phone into sleep mode. But last night, I definitely put my phone into sleep mode, fully charged, and it was down to 5% this morning. Am I doing something wrong? Or do I need to take my phone in to get replaced?

I have experienced this very problem, and it can't easily be attributed to any of the issues raised in the above replies.
In my case the battery drained so much one night that when I went to charge it so I could turn it on the screen went black and refused to turn on after over 2 hours of charge time.
I tried plugging in to the computer, and into the wall both. No luck on restoring life.
In a panic I called Apple. Described the problem. They asked me questions about my other usage and battery consumption and came to the conclusion that there was a definite problem with the battery.
I did another cycle of button pushes and cord swaps and poof. The thing started working albeit with 5% battery after charging for almost 3 hours at that point.
This happened while I was on the phone with Apple, and interestingly enough, as soon as I said the power was back on, the rep said "Good" and the line went dead...
I have yet to call them back on the issue as the phone seems to be working again, though the battery issues persist.
