Best approach to develop DataTypes

Hey guys
suppose i m doin a complex File scenario in which i have a flat file either on the sender or receiver side.what is the best approach to develop the data type for the file structure,is it possible to generate an XML and with the help of that create a data type?
I actually want to know the professional way of generating datatypes (i m pretty sure in real world scenarios,we get very complex file structures).
thanx
Ahmad

Hi,
In many cases, if your structure is very complex, you can not get direct nested xml after content conversion. In that case, in the mapping we need to handle the generation of nested strutcure. So you use Java or xslt mapping etc.. if it is not possible via graphical mapping. Also you can do this in the adapter module.
Here you go with good example- Generic Structure-

Also file content conversion - limitations-

  • Best approach to develop office add-in

    Hello,
i'm a .net programmer and i've developed addins for outlook/ word and excel with VS 2008 + .net 3.5 + VSTO.
There were many problem initially with the VSTO addin and i faced lot of difficulties to solve them specially when working with both Outlook and Word.
My client has Adobe Acrobat installed on every machine and no doubt the performance of Acrobat addin in office application is superb. On the other hand VSTO addins take time to load and the performance is specially low when tehre is a interaction between VB6 and MS Office application.
Many times the Outlook addin gets disabled if outlook is not running and VB6 code creates new mail item to send and display it to user. Many times mail window freezes and many such problems.
Now the question i've here is can anyone tell me the best approach to develop Office addin like how and in what language Acrobat addin is developed? or best practice to develop it with VSTO and which is best with a why?
    Thanks,

  • What is the best practice for developing web service?

    Hi All,
I'm a newbee to web services...
I was wondering what would be the best approach in developing a web service,
    using tools or programmatic approach?
If I use WebLogic Workshop, am I tied to a vendor?
Is it possible for me to develop web services using workshop and deploy in
    another app server..?
I would appreciate if somebody could give me a pointer to start.
I have already referred BEA's docs.
I'm still confused on a good starting point on the best approach to develop
    protable web services.
Thanks in advance for any inputs.

    K K-
You have a very valid point on the simplify or complicate matters. If you are
going for clean and not-so-time-centric code, then there are several different
programs and packages out there you can choose from.
Since you are specialized in J2EE, than the Sun package may be what you are looking
for. BEA's classes simplify much of the work you will be doing, but you could
emulate their classes or extend yours above the functions provided in theirs.
It all boils down to how much work are you willing to do.
If you are asking for more detailed, coding 'Design Patterns' to utilize, I would
wait for a few more posts from other folks as my work often requires me to utilize
    the tools provided.

    Thanks for the response.
I was also looking at Sun's WSDP 1.1, which is more programmatic approach.
Some how, I feel being a J2EE developer, I should go on the direction
    of the
    programmatic approach.
Using the tools could simplify or complicate things. Also, the Workshop
samples import all weblogic specific packages.
My code looks so dirty with many vendor specific packages being imported.
Could you give me your suggestions for a clean and neat approach?
I would personally prefer to avoid the quick and dirty approach.
    Thanks again.

    K K-
The best approach in developing portable web services is knowing whatyou
    are
planning on using them for as well as how much is willing to be spent, etc.
BEA's Workshop is portable to other frameworks, but the ease ofintegrating a
developed client or a developed server can very greatly. Even moreof an
    issue
is migration from one framework to another. If you choose to developin
    Workshop
and your company later deploys .Net solutions, some of your work mayhave
    to be
redone unless the company is willing to keep portions of the 'old'system
    around
until new versions of the service are available. However, Workshophas
    several
ant tools available that would assist you in deploying to other appservers or
even a stand-alone application should you need cross framework abilities.
If you are just starting out in web services, http://www.webservices.org
    is a
good place to start checking out vendors in the space.

  • Newbie: Java/JDBC best approach

Hello, i am having trouble understanding the best approach to develop java/jdbc programs.
I was told that the i could best load resultset data in to value objects loaded into a vector
and handled by data access objects instead of using the resultset directly.
This method should give me more flexibility when navigating, inserting, updating and
    deleting rows.
An example is given by Matthew Robinson and Pavel Vorobiev in their book
    (http://manning.spindoczine.com/sbe/).
So i am desperately seeking for sample code or documentation on this matter.
Matthew Robinson and Pavel Vorobiev do not give a full solution containing r/w/u
    functionality.
When seeking on the web i find only references to J2EE and this would be
overkill for the applications i have in mind at this moment.
I am afraid i will re-invent the wheel and end up with a square one.
    Therefore in short my questions:
    1. Should i use and manipulate the (scrollable, updatable) resultset or use
value objects handled by data access objects.
    2. Where can i find sample code or documentation on this matter (not J2EE).
I would be very gratefull if someone could help me,
    Rob

    Hi,
Contact me at [email protected] I will be able to help you... and provide some sample code.

  • B2C - best Approach

I need to create the B2C application which will ahve few input fields & upon clicking the button, I need to get the data from backend(R/3) and display it. This application will be called from eCatalog.
What is best approach to develop the application? Like using JSP in NWDS or Webdynpro Java/ABAP or Web UI or BSP..
I need your suggestion on this..
    Thanks
    BM

    Hi Bharathi,
As you have written you want to create B2C application so are you trying to say that your application will interact with ISA-B2C or you want to create Web application which will fetch data from Backend R/3.
Your word Create B2C Application actually confusing me.
Can you give us some more detail about your requirement? Like how user will access this application i.e. it is for public or for internal use. Through SAP Portal or independent web application?
What is the best approach is depends on your requirement. i.e. if you want to arrange page layout by your own then you should go for JSP as you can include JAva script and it is more flexible compare to WebDynpro also you can use JCO API to get data from Backend..
Forum expert can give you more useful tip on it.

  • Servlet/jsp/jdbc best approach

    Hello guys
Which is the best approach when developing servlet/jsp/jdbc? I will take an
    example:
    I have index-page, page2 and page 3.
When the user writes www.mydomain.com then the page index.jsp checks if the
user is coming from the servlet, like this:
    <%
    if(request.getAttribute("getPageTitle")==null){
    %>
    <jsp:forward page="/Index" />
    <%
    else{
    %>
    <%@ include file="/include/header.jsp" %>
    content for index.jsp
    <%@ include file="/include/footer.jsp" %>
    <%
    %>
On the other hand, the Index class has this init()
    public void init(ServletConfig config) throws ServletException {
    super.init(config);
    con = DatabaseConf.getConnection();
DatabaseConf is a class that handles all the operations related to the
    database.
Index.class has also the doGet-method like this:
    request.setAttribute ("getPageTitle", "AnyTilte");
    getServletConfig().getServletContext().getRequestDispatcher("/index.jsp").forward(request,
    response);
Does it looks ok so long?
Now, I have other pages, page2 and page3 (in fact I have mych more than just
these, but this is only an example)
pages.jsp works as index.jsp. It makes a check
    <%
    if(request.getAttribute("getPageTitle")==null){
    %>
if not satisfied than it redirect to
    <jsp:forward page="/Page2" />
My concern, however, is about databasemanagement. Even the Page.class has an
init-method that looks exactly like the one in Index.class, e.g.
    public void init(ServletConfig config) throws ServletException {
    super.init(config);
    con = DatabaseConf.getConnection();
In conclusion, Im starting jdbc-connection for every class-file that
initiates. Is this a good approach? What I would like is a solution to
initiate the database only one time, when the server starts. Not everytime,
the first time a specially class-file will be called. I know, this will
happens only one time for a file for the server's lifetime. But Im afraid

In conclusion, Im starting jdbc-connection for every
    class-file that
initiates. Is this a good approach? You normally do not want your Servlet to initiate (which I take to mean 'startup') a database. The two can run independently. The place to initiate a database is in your operating system's startup scripts.
    What I would like
    is a solution to
initiate the database only one time, when the server
    starts. Not everytime,
the first time a specially class-file will be called. If you are talking about java.sql.Connection, you generally do not want to have a single connection for your entire application. Each thread should use its own connection, or transaction management/logical unit of work will be problematic, at best. You can use a connection pool to improve performance. However, from a caller's perspective, they are receiving a new connection each time.

  • Which one is the best approach for responsive UI development option in SharePoint 2013

Which one is the best approach for responsive UI development option in SharePoint 2013
Device channel or responsive UI (HTML, CSS)?

In practice you're probably going to end up with a combination. A couple of device channels for classes of device and then responsive UI within those channels to adjust to particular devices within the classes.
Of course the real answer is as always 'it depends' as you'll need to pick the best option for each client based on their needs.

  • What is the best approach to handle multiple FK with single table.

If two tables are joined with each other with more than one ways, for example
    MAIN table is (col1, col2,....coln, person_creator_id, person_modifier_id)
PERSON table is (person_id, name, address,........ phone) etc
At database level PERSON_CREATOR_FK and PERSON_MODIFIER_FK are defined.
Objective is to create a report that shows
col1, col2...coln, person creator name, person modifier name
If above two objects are imported with FKs in a EUL and discoverer plus is used to create above report. On first inclusion of person name discoverer plus will ask you to pick the join (provided the checkbox to disable this feature is not checked). Once you pick 'person creator' join it will never allow you to pick person modifier name.
One solution is two create a custom folder with query like
    select col1, col2,...coln,
    pc.name, pc.address,.... pc.phone
    pm.name, pm.address,.... pm.phone
    from main m,
    person pc,
    person pm
    where m.person_id_creator = pc.person_id
    and m.person_id_modifier = pm.person_id
Second solution is to import the PERSON folder twice in EUL (optionally named one as perosn_creator and other as person_modifier) and manually define one join per table. i.e. join MAIN with PERSON_CREATOR on person_creator_fk and join MAIN with PERSON_MODIFIER table using person_modifier_fk.
Now discoverer plus will let you drag Name from each person folder without needing to resolve multiple joins.
Question is, what approach is better OR is there a better way?
With solution 1 you will not be able to use functions on folder items.
With solution 2 there is a EUL design overhead of including same object multiple times and then manually defining all join (or deleting unwanted joins), and this could be a problem when you have person_modifier and person_creator in nearly all tables. It could be more complicated if person table is further linked other tables and users want to see that information too. (for instance, if person address is stored in LOCATION table joined with location_id and user want to see both creator address and modifier address....now you will have to create multiple LOCATION folders).
A third solution could be to register a function in discoverer that return person name when person_id is passed. This will work perfectly for above requirement but a down side is the report will run slower if they need filters on person names (then function will be used in where clause). Also, this solution is very specific to above scenario, it will not work if you want the report developer the freedom to pick any attribute from person table (lets say, person table contain 50 attributes then its not a good idea to register 50 functions).
    Any comments/suggestion will be appreciated.
    thanks

    Hi
In a roundabout way you have really answered your own question :-)
In my opinion, the best approach, although by all means not the only approach - see below) would be to have the object loaded as two folders with one join going to the first folder and the second join to the other folder. You would of course name the folders appropriately.
Here's a workflow that I use all of the time and one that I teach when I'm giving Discoverer Administrator training. It might help you:
    1. Bring in the PERSON folder to begin with
    2. Make all necessary adjustments to bring it up to deployment standard. These adjustments would be: folder name (E.g PERSON_CREATOR), item names, item placement, default positions, default aggregation and so on.
    3. Create or assign the required lists of values
    4. Create any required calculations
    5. Create any required conditions
    6. Create the first join from this folder to MAIN.
    7. Click on the heading for the folder and press CTRL-C.
    8. Click on the heading for the business area and press CTRL-V. A second copy of the folder, complete with all of the adjustments you made earlier will be inserted into the business area.
Note: joins are not copied, everything else is.
    9. Rename this folder to say PERSON_MODIFIED
    10. Rename the items as appropriate
    11. Add a join from this folder to MAIN - you're done
Other ideas that I have used and work well would be to use a database view or create a complex folder. Either will work, In both cases you would need to join on some other column other than the ones you referred earlier.
    I hope this helps
    Best wishes

  • Best approach for IDOC - JDBC scenario

    Hi,
In my scenarion I am creating sales order(ORDERS04) in R/3 system and which need to be replicated in a SQL Server system. I am sending the order to XI as an IDoc and want to use JDBC for sending data to SQL Server. I need to insert data in two tables(header & details). Is it possible without BPM?  Or what is the best approach for this?
    Thanks,
    Sri.

Yes, this is possible without the BPM.
Just create the Corresponding Datatype for the insertion.
if the records to be inserted are different, then there wil be 2 different datatypes ( one for header and one for detail).
Do a mutlimapping, where your Source is mapped into the header and details datatype and then send using the JDBC sender adapter.
For the strucutre of your Datatype for insertion , just check this link,
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/7e/5df96381ec72468a00815dd80f8b63/content.htm
To access any Database from XI, you will have to install the corresponding Driver on your XI server.

  • Best approach -To create RTF template having more than 50 tables.

    Hi All,
Need your help.I am new to BI publisher. Currently we are using BIP 11g.
I want to develop.rtf template having lots of layout and images.
Data is coming from different tables (example : pulling from around 40 tables). When i tried to pull data from 5 tables by joining tables. It takes more time using data model in BI publisher 11g saved in xml and used in word doc.
Could you please suggest best approach  weather i need to develop .rtf template via data model or query to generate a report.
Also please suggest / guide me .
    Regards & Thanks in advance.

    it's very specific requirements
first of all it's relate to logic behind
as example 50 tables are related ? or 50 independent tables ? or may be 5 related and another independent ?
based on relation of tables you create sql statement(s)
how many sql statement(s) you'll have lead to identify ways to get data, as example, by package or trigger etc
kim size of resulting select statement(s)
if size say 1mb it's must be fast to get report but for 1000mb it can consume many time
also kim what time it's not only to select data but to merge data and template
looks like experimenting and knowing full logic of report is only ways to get needed output in projection of data and time

  • Best practice to develop the news web part to retrieve news data across the farms

    Hi,
We have developed the News Web part. The functionality  it pulls the news from other SharePoint Farms and display it in the site. Currently we are using secure store service to  to connect to different FARM to retrieve the news from that FARM.
The issue with this approach is that every time user hits the page it  will always hit the Secure Store service. There are almost 80K users who will be using this web part. Moreover this web part connects to multiple sites for multiple news from different
division. What should be the best practice to develop such kind of web part without consuming the server resources and keep hitting the server till we get the new news.News does not change very often.
    Regards
    Rajaniesh

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to know which is the best way  to handle the large complication of SharePoint cross farm retrieving data.
If you are developing the custom web part to retrieve data from other farm, I suggest you can firstly create a custom timer job to get data hourly in the backend and restore the data in a list. Then you can create a web part to link to the list to display
    the data.
For cross farm accessing data, I suggest you can create a custom web service to achieve it.
Also, you can use ajax to display the web part data asynchronously. It will improve the performance and reduce the server pressure.
Here are some detailed articles for your reference:

  • Best approach... TiledView or regular ViewBean

I'm wondering what approach would be best with JATO and the display
I'm trying to build on a JSP page. My page layout will look something
    like this...
    Checked Out Items: (none)
    ToDo Items: 3 InfoDocs
    2 Sun Alerts
    Draft Items: (none)
    My Docs: 345 InfoDocs
    28 Sun Alerts
    18 SRDB's
Now, this might get confusing so please ask questions if anything I
state is not clear. The values after the colons (:) (i.e. 3 InfoDocs,
2 Sun Alerts, etc) are dynamic. These values will be genereated off of
queries on a database. There could be more listings or there could be
the value (none). As far as setting this up through the JATO
framework, I'm trying to determine the best way to do this. Right now
I have a VoyagerHome.jsp that will represent the layout displayed
above. I also have a VoyagerHomeViewBean.java. At first I was thinking
of registering a Tiled View in this ViewBean but then I felt it didn't
make sense and wouldn't work out the way I wanted it to. So now I'm
thinking of registering the labels (Checked Out Items:, ToDo Items:,
Draft Items:, and My Docs:) as StaticTextFields within the
    VoyagerHomeViewBean.
Then I think I would also need to make the values (3 InfoDocs, 2 Sun
Alerts, etc) children and make them HREF jato types. But I'm not sure
how I can do this when the numbers are going to be dynamic. Does this
make sense? One question I have is should I or do I have to register
    each document type (InfoDoc,
Sun Alert, SRDB, etc) for each label grouping (Checked Out Items:,
ToDo Items:, etc). So for example, in the end, I will need place
    holders for the following:
    Checked Out Items: xxx InfoDocs
Checked Out Items: xxx Sun Alerts
    Checked Out Items: xxx SRDBs
Checked Out Items: xxx Cobalt Assets
Checked Out Items: xxx iPlanet Assets
    ToDo Items: xxx InfoDocs
    ToDo Items: xxx Sun Alerts
    ToDo Items: xxx SRDBs
    ToDo Items: xxx Cobalt Assets
    ToDo Items: xxx iPlanet Assets
same for Draft Items and My Docs....
This may seem confusing so please ask questions. In
other words, is there a way to re-use the HREF tags and run them
through a tiled view or something eventhough these values for the HREF
tags are going to be run off of different database tables?
What I'm trying to do is kinda difficult to explain but I hope you get
some idea of what I'm trying to accomplish.
    Thanks
    - Billy -

Best approach i can think of is a TiledView with HREFs for InfoDocs, Sun
Alerts etc. You can use a StaticTextField for the numbers in the
TiledView. ToDo Items, Draft Items etc. you can just label them in your
jsp itself, no need to register them as children.

above. I also have a VoyagerHomeViewBean.java. At first I was thinking
of registering a Tiled View in this ViewBean but then I felt it didn't
make sense and wouldn't work out the way I wanted it to. So now I'm
thinking of registering the labels (Checked Out Items:, ToDo Items:,
Draft Items:, and My Docs:) as StaticTextFields within the
    VoyagerHomeViewBean.
Then I think I would also need to make the values (3 InfoDocs, 2 Sun
Alerts, etc) children and make them HREF jato types. But I'm not sure
how I can do this when the numbers are going to be dynamic. Does this
make sense? One question I have is should I or do I have to register
    each document type (InfoDoc,
Sun Alert, SRDB, etc) for each label grouping (Checked Out Items:,
ToDo Items:, etc). So for example, in the end, I will need place
    holders for the following:
    Checked Out Items: xxx InfoDocs
Checked Out Items: xxx Sun Alerts
    Checked Out Items: xxx SRDBs
Checked Out Items: xxx Cobalt Assets
Checked Out Items: xxx iPlanet Assets
    ToDo Items: xxx InfoDocs
    ToDo Items: xxx Sun Alerts
    ToDo Items: xxx SRDBs
    ToDo Items: xxx Cobalt Assets
    ToDo Items: xxx iPlanet Assets
same for Draft Items and My Docs....
This may seem confusing so please ask questions. In
other words, is there a way to re-use the HREF tags and run them
through a tiled view or something eventhough these values for the HREF
tags are going to be run off of different database tables?
What I'm trying to do is kinda difficult to explain but I hope you get
some idea of what I'm trying to accomplish.
    Thanks

  • Best approach for multi-team/multi-projects.

    Hi,
I'm looking for the best approach to handle multi-teams/multi-projects scenario. We have 20 development groups and over 300 products. Each products on it's own Schedule.
Product X can be assign to Group A, but at some point, it can be assign to Group B.
We are currently using TFS 2012, but will be upgrading to 2013 soon.
Based on many reading, we are thinking to create only one Team Projects to ease management.
In it, we will create a team for each development group, but we will not create an associated area path with the name of the team.
    - Group A
    - Group B
    - Group C
Than, we will create an Area for each product.
    - Product X
    - Product Y
    - Product Z
and, we will create multi-level of iterations to match each Schedule.
    - Product X
       - Release 1
          - Sprint 1
          - Sprint 2
    - Product Y
        - Release 1
           -Sprint 1
        - Release 2
           -Sprint 1
The main issue, we have with this approach is that we can't use the Backlog or the Task Board effectivelly, as there is no way to filter per areas and iterations.
Reading "How do I change the underlying query for the task board (and backlog board) on TFS Preview", this doen't seam to be possible in TFS 2012.
In TFS 2013, "The Agile Portfolio Management: Using TFS to support backlogs across multiple teams" was introduced. Will this help to solve the problem?
We would create a management team for each development group.
We would create an agile team with an associated area for each product.
The only thing that I couldn't find in the documentation is how to re-assign an agile team to another management team. Is this possible?
Also can each agile team have their specific itérations, if so will it roll up properly to the management team?
    Regards
    SYSOTI

    Hi SYSOTI,
Based on your description, seems the area path is not configured properly hence you can't use the Backlog or the Task Board effectivelly.
    From the
Agile Portfolio Management: Using TFS to support backlogs across multiple teams, the area path is set as agile team which is a consist of team members but not a product name. For you scenario, you can set the area path name as your product name to
identify the associate products for work items.  And the groups you mentioned for products in the team projects are sub-group of contributors.
Seems there is no need to create a management team for each development group since management team might be in a higher level to view the progress for all of the work across the agile teams. Certianly, you can create multiple management teams, but the management
teams will be able to view works for all agile teams.
If you have multiple teams and products, you can create a team project for each product if the products don't have much relationship. However, it's OK to manage the projects for multiple products in the same team project. And working within a single team
project also have benifits, you ccan check this
    blog for more information.

  • Best way to develop billing software - advice me

    Hi,
I am junior software developer. I am thinking to write a open source billing software witch can be used from ISPs and web hosting companies. I want to ask you what is the best approach for that goal.
    1. I am thinking to use a server witch will sit between the router and servers with web content. That server will be installed with squid proxy and rules of iptables.
    2. I will write a java program witch will listen on port for example 1001 and will listening for string from PHP program what will be hosted on the same or another server on the internet and will write those strings in squid's black list and will send to the system squid -k reconfigure to read squid it's settings. So when user's period for using the servers resources expire for non paying squid will block the access to that server and the web users won't be able to open the pages.
Is there more efficient way to realize my idea?
How the PHP program will send to the java program strings containing the banned IP's
If you had to design a billing software how you will do it?

Spying on your users is NOT good.

Not. Your spyware will not get active cooperation from anyone.

  • Best approach for performing DMLs using stored procedures

    Hi,
I have a really general question and would like to hear your say about this.
I want my application to manipulate or read data using stored procedures (or packages in that manner) and not directly using queries against the DB.
Let's say I have a table with many columns:
create table test (pkid number(10),col1 varchar2(30), col2 number(10), col3 date,...);For such a DML procedure, is it best to do something like
procedure do_update(i_pkid IN number,i_col1 IN varchar2, i_col2 IN number, i_col3 IN date,...) as
    begin
       update test
       set col1=i_col1,
            col2=i_col2,
            col3=i_col3...
       where pkid=i_pkid;
       commit;
end;Or do a selective update, meaning update only a certain column every time, given only 1 column actually changes? (and how to do that - separate procedures for each column? [columns can be nulls])
Also, is it better to work with test.col1%type instead of specifying the data type in the procedure?
And one last question - If I have a table with 100 columns and I don't want to create a procedure with 100 parameters - the best approach would be to use a record?
I just need to be set on the way I start implementing things in order to do it well from the start.
    Many thanks.

One last clarification (although it may be more related to c/c++ developers - maybe one of you will know):
We are working with C++ and VB against a SQLServer and my part is to translate all the existing procedures to Oracle in order to migrate the application to work with Oracle DB.
The existing procedures use an IN parameter for each column in the table and I would really like to use rowtype like you mentioned.
Since I'm not a c/c++/vb developer - is there an easy way of working with such types, or even User-Defined Types, from c/c++/vb (as in passing a rowtype record from c++ to a SP ?)
I'm not looking for the actual way - just want to know how hard it would be and how much code needs to be changed in order to be able to convince the developers that this is the RIGHT way to work.
PS. none of our developers have experience with ORACLE so they wouldn't know the answer...Not actually an Oracle server-side (SQL language or PL/SQL language) question - but a client one. And it has been a long time since I wrote a fat client using C/C++ or Delphi.
The OCI (<i>Oracle Call Interface</i>) supports advance (user defined) SQL data types. Has since Oracle 8i. So in that respect, yes the client can support custom SQL data types.
How well it does depends entirely on that client language's features wrt OCI integration. For example, Delphi 4 was release around Oracle 8i and supported custom SQL types. I would expect that most languages today (like Java and C#) will provide support for it.
As for usiong +%ROWTYPE+ - this is a PL/SQL clause as far as I know. Unsure whether it is supported by the OCI. What could support it is a pre-compiler like Pro*C. These enable you to mix pseudo SQL source code with client language source code. The pre-compilation step then replaces the pseudo SQL code with native client language calls to the OCI. The code is then compiled by that client language's compiler. Pre-compilers can pull all kinds of interesting "tricks" with their pseudo SQL code support.
The best would be to consult the applicable client language's manuals that describe the interface it supports (via OCI) to Oracle.
