Best Approach to Share Photos in Client Server Environment

Ive been doing research on the best way to share scanned documents inside a client server application (PB11) but am not sure what's the quickest way to do it.
My brainstorm came up with:
1. Use MS SharePoint to share photos.
    Pros: Relatively quick to install
Cons: Potentially difficult to maintain. No integration with PB application.
2. Use web server to share photos
    Pros: PB integration possible
    Cons: Difficult to maintain
3. Use Oracle database to store photos
Pros: PB integration possible and easy to maintain
    Cons: Hardware resource demanding.
The idea is to be able to share scanned documents to different users which can be then associated with different business information such as journal entries, assets, customer application, and many others.
Of the three above which one would offer the quickest solution?

Hi Chris,
I have a Fujitsu software that can scan and store images to folders (may contain photos of assets, sorry for the mixup tween photo and image), sharepoint, but not to a web server - although now I suspect I can configure the webserver to just automap the file folders to the webserver's URL (I guess I had amnesia). However there's another feature which I haven't found out yet and that is whether the scanning software can store the metadata directly to the database. Most likely it doesn't thus the reason why sharePoint looks attractive. The other concerns you mentioned I believe I can handle at a later time.
Thank you.

What are the best ways to share photos from iPhoto?

If you use Adobe Photoshop, or even Adobe Photoshop Elements, stay as far away from iPhoto as possible.
iPhoto does not play nice with Adobe software or with software from any other third party developer.
iPhoto will hide your image files in a library paradigm where you have no access to them other than through iPhoto.

I find it best to focus on solutions.
Why can't iPhoto just pull the images from a media browser or something over the network?
I don't know. Part of the issue has to be that iPhoto is not a HD browser. Another part is what you mean by " ... just pull the images".
Any tips on creating a locally hosted web gallery?
My greatest single tip of all time: try it! The tools available to use for just a few hundred dollars are astoundingly powerful.
Or... does anyone have any Automator magic they'd like to share?
No need. Web galleries are built into Aperture 3. Put the images you want to be in the gallery in one Album (Smart or otherwise). Select all the images. Click "New→Web Page". Select a theme. Change some of the text. Make some other changes. Click "Export Web Pages ... ". Make some more decisions. Give the folder a name. Save it somewhere with access to those whom you wish to see it. Select "Tell me when done". Check your email (have a coffee). Click "Show in Finder". Open the folder. Double-click the file "index.html". Brilliant! Enjoy.
The trick to sharing this is to make the folder available. The index file will always open the web site pages in a web browser.

    Hello
I need to run a report made in Reports 9i in a client/server environment, but we don´t want to install the developer suite. Reports 6i had a runtime tool how can i do in Reports 9i?
PD: si alguien me puede responder en español seria fantastico.

In client server mode you can use RUN_PRODUCT built-in. Lookup help for this built-in for more details.

  • Oracle9i Reports in Client/Server environment

    Hi
Is it possible to use Oracle9i Reports in Client/Server environment. I tried to use reports against older databases (7.3.4 and 8.1.7) and they work from Repots Builder but it is nor clear is it possible to set clinet/server environment for them.
    Regards

You can certainly still run reports using the rwrun executable.
However, there is no longer any runtime UI (i.e., you can't run to Screen or Preview any more, only to File, Printer, etc.)

I will be grateful if some one can tell me how to use Keyfilter

Our requirement is to restrict entry in text field to just upper

    Are you using

Since the readme file shows exactly what you have to do.
Basically you set the implementation class for a text field to

  • What's the best approach to resetting Calendar data on Server?

I have a database format error in a calendar that I only noticed after the migration to Server on Yosemite.  I'll paste a snippet from the Error Log in at the bottom that shows the error - I've highlighted the description of the problem in red.
I found a pretty cool writeup from Linc in a different thread, but it's aimed at fixing a similar problem for a local user on their own machine rather that an iCal server like what we're running.  Here's the link to that thread: Re: Calendar crashes on open  For example, does something like Calendar Cleaner work on our server database as well?
In my case I think I'd basically like to gracefully remove all the Calendar databases from Server and start fresh (all the users' calendars are backed up on their local machines, so they can just import them into fresh/empty calendars once I've cleaned out the old stuff).  Any thoughts on "best approach" would be much appreciated.

<facepalm>  Well, there you go.  It turns out I was over-thinking this.  The Calendar app on a Mac can manage this database just fine.  Sorry about that.  There may be an easier way to do this, but here's how I did it.
Use the Calendar.app on a local computer to:
    - Export the corrupted calendar to an ICS file on the local computer (Calendar -> File -> Export -> Export)
    - Create a new local calendar (Calendar -> File -> New Calendar -> On My Mac)
    - Import the corrupted calendar into the new/empty local calendar (Calendar -> File -> Import...)
    - Delete years and years of old events, including the one that was triggering that error message
    - Export the (now much smaller) local calendar to another ICS file on my computer (Calendar -> File -> Export -> Export)
    - Create a new calendar on the server (Calendar -> File -> New Calendar -> in the offending server-based iCal account)
    - Import the edited/fixed/smaller/no-longer-corrupted calendar into the new/empty server calendar (Calendar -> File -> Import...)
    - Make the newly-created iCal calendar the primary calendar (drag it to the top of the list of calendars on the server)
    - Delete the old/corrupted calendar (right-clicking on the bad calendar in the calendar list - you can only delete it once it's NOT the primary calendar any more)

  • Best way to share photos with friends?

    Hi,
I want to share photos with my friends and family non-publicly. They should be able to view them and download them if they want. What would be the easiest way for this? Any good or bad experiences here?
    Thanks
    p.

Do your friends and family also have a mac or iPad/iPhone, or a Windows / PC? Then you could use Shared Photo Streams:  See: iCloud: iCloud Photo Sharing FAQ
    For further information:
iCloud: Using and troubleshooting Shared Photo Streams
    iCloud: Photo Stream FAQ
Shared Photo Streams would let you stream selected photos from your Aperture library directly to your friends's devices.  Alternately upload your photos to an ftp-server and share the download link, for example, if you have a Drop Box account, you can share the link to folder in your Pictures folder.

    Hi,
At the moment I use the <utl_file> to generate an excel file(from oracle table) via sql*forms GUI to the server (my development server/cilent were one machine)

Now unfortuanately when we transfer to a 'real' production enviroment with client, server architecture , different machines, my generate to excel cannot generate a excel file :

  • Outgrowing storage - best NAS/SAN options for OS X Server environment?

    Hi All,
We use an Xserve (2x3 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon) for our production/graphic design team.  I have a 1TB ADM dedicated to "live" jobs and another 1TB ADM for "archived" jobs.  (A third, smaller ADM houses OS X Server only...)
Both 1TB drives have a dedicated 1TB external drive for nightly backups and another for weekly backups (we use SuperDuper).  This very basic system has worked well for us, but our storage needs are increasing.  I'd like to double our current scheme -- just bump the "live" and "archived" environments up to 2TB.
I see a lot of NAS and SAN options.  Main concerns for me are:
    1) compatibilty with our current Mac OS X Server environment;
    2) cost; and
    3) ideally, preservation of our clean and simple backup scheme
Wanted to get input from other Xserve/OS X Server users as far as the best options for this transition...
    Thanks!

I am a huge fan of the Netgear (formerly ReadyNAS) NAS devices.  I've owned 2 of them now, and am now standardized on the little 4-bay NVX Pro.  It supports AFP perfectly as well as Time Machine, SMB/CIFS for any windows needs, iSCSI, NFS, RSYNC, etc. etc.  iSCSI is a great option not to be under-estimated, though NFS is the more traditional backup model for Network storage.  I backup several Apple machines to the single NAS, which is now running 4x3TB drives in the XRAID2 format (essentially RAID5).  I can pull a drive in live production and swap it out and the RAID re-syncs without interrupting file transfers, etc.  It's also got some nice plugin's of some open source tools like Subsonic server, Wordpress, etc. etc.  They make a myriad of devices with the same basic software, just different amount of drive bays, enterprise vs. SMB market, etc. etc.  Again, I chose the NVX Pro, but there are other options up and down the line-up.  And no, I have no officialiation with Netgear, in fact on a certain level, my company competes with them :-)  Lastly, remember, there is value in off-site backups as well, in case of fire, theft, etc. If you're really paranoid, like me, you could additionally mirror your NAS to an off-site NAS or other cloud-based solution.  Of course, there's a cost for everything.  Good luck with it.

  • Best way to share photos with others

I have over 1000 photos in iPhoto '11 and want to share them with 3 others, 2 of whom have Macs and one has a Windows machine. None of the 3 are on y local network.
Is there a way I can share all my photos with these 3 people? I would ideally like to allow them to view the photos using the facial recognition so that they can search for specific people.
    Thanks!

To share with faces you need to use a sharing service that supports face information - Facebook for example
    otherwise shared photoStreams

  • Best way to share photos with PC users?

I'm a new mac user so have been using my pc and kodak gallery for quite some time now as a tool to share pictures, however,I woul like to continue sharing photos with mostly pc users. I usually share about 100 at a time. On my PC, I was able to change the name of a picture into a description that would then get imported into kodak gallery so I had the description on both the site and the pc. On the Mac, I love the ability to assign a comment to the picture but is there anyway to bring this comment into the title of the pictures in any of these photosites (such as shutterfly, snapfish or kodak gallery).

You can do this with the title field in iPhoto, rather than the comments field. Changing the title in iPhoto does not rename the file; it is only used within iPhoto. However, you can select all the photos you want to share, then do File > Export to a folder on your desktop. Where it says Name you have the option to export by title. The original files inside iPhoto will be untouched. You will get a copy (outside iPhoto) of each selected file, and the file names will then match their iPhoto titles. During the export is also where you can choose to resize the files, so that you are uploading smaller photos (necessary for email and some websites).
Kodak Gallery has a batch uploader for Mac, called Ofoto, that you can download onto your Mac. You can drag the whole folder of exports from your desktop to the Ofoto window and upload at once. When you have finished uploading, you can trash the desktop files, since they are only copies.
