Best jpg quality for website work?

I realize that 72 dpi is the best resolution to use for website images, but at what quality level should I export my image files (1-12) ?

Yes good advice here. Why use a number that someone else has suggested to you when you could instead do a little experiment on your own? Simply export your image at different quality settings. If you can't notice a difference, better 9 and 10, go for the smaller number. rinse and repeat.
Be aware: different images call for different quality settings. Simple graphic images compress better than photos with with smooth gradients (sunsets for example). If there was just one best setting, there wouldn't be any setting at all--just a save button. The reason there is a setting is so that you can use exercise your judgement. If you don't trust you own eyes, throw it up on polarb.com and invite some trusted friends to vote.

I am a new mac user and I switch to mac due to the graphics that it brings. I do website in pc and I heard iweb is the best.NOW i heard that iweb will be discontinue. so what is the best application there for website using MAC OSX lion?

It is now confirmed  that iWeb, and iDVD, has been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. However, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
It now appears that the iLife suite of applications offered on disc is now a discontinued product and the remaining supported iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on. However, the iLife 11 boxed version that is still available at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD. Those two apps were listed in small, gray text on the iLife 11 box that I bought.
Personally, if I didn't already have a copy I would purchase one to have it for reinstallation purposes if ever needed.

  • Creating the Best Video Quality for YouTube Using FCE

Hey guys, have a quick question.  I'm making drum covers for YouTube, and I want the best possible quality for my viewers.  I use Final Cut Express 4.0.1 on my MacBook Pro, and Log and Transfer the video footage from a HDR-CX160 Sony AVCHD Handycam.   What are my best options?
    Thank you!
    Justin

In every aspect of life there is no such thing as one best option as it all depends on your particular circumstances.
Here is a good starting point for you to decide what suits you best.
When you have edited your project in FCE try these settings:-
    Select File>Export>Using QT Conversion.
Click the "Options"  button and when the the Options window opens you will see  "Size", "Settings" and "Sound" buttons.
Click the Size button and set 1920 x 1080
Click  the Settings button and  select:-
    Compression Type . . . . H.264
    Frame Rate . . . . . . . . . Current
    Key Frames . . . . . . . . . Automatic
    Compressor Quality . . . High
Encoding . . . . . . . . . . "Faster" encode will give almost the same quality as "Best" but is twice as fast - your decision!
    Data Rate . . . . . . . . . . Restrict to 10,000kbps  (Don't use a comma when you enter the number)
Then click the "Audio" button and make sure that AAC has been selected.
These settings should give very good quality results fairly quickly, which should play well. Your file size will be around 5GB per hour.
Some people prefer to use the smaller 1280 x 720, in which case the Data Rate should be 5,000kbps.
I suggest you do a quick test with a film under one minute long to see how it looks as there is nothing worse than spending hours encoding a long project only to find that the settings were unsuitable.

  • What is the property of best JPG quality?

    Hello,
When i load an external JPG file in a movieclip, how can i
    get the best quality of
    this external JPG file?
I know for video it is Smoothing, but for external jpg files
    i really don't know.
    Regards,
    Micheal.

    Thanks GWD and kglad,
It seems more compex then i tought, because
    I tried al these things:
    movieclip_mc._quality = "BEST";
    moveiclip_mc._highquality = 2;
( i found this in the help file, i effects more the vector
based animations). If set to 0, an animation is really crapy.
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/flash/8/main/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/wwhelp.htm?context=LiveD ocs_Parts&file=00002749.html
And also i tried publishing the flash with jpg quality set to
100, but that does not effect external loaded jpg.
I think i know what causes the edge of a person in a photo
that is not smooth. I rescaled the movieclip.
What i don't understand is when you have a video you can use
    the property
    myvideo.smoothing = true;
When rescaling it still looks very good.
Why did they not use the same technique for JPG?
Also when you import jpg files in your library you can use
the property of this jpg and set
the smoothing to 100% quality. This really does it's work
with GIF's and makes the edge very smooth.
Too bad you can't use smoothing to a movieclip :(

  • Help me on choosing the best sound quality for my music on my itunes!!!

I heard that AIFF Encoder is the best sound quality you can import your music into Itunes. On the settings for AIFF Encoder do you know what Sample Rate, Sample Size, and what Channel I should set it to? Should I just leave them on Auto? How about if I have a HDCD? What are your suggestions?

I agree use Apple Lossless. Bizarrely it is also easier to share Apple Lossless with Windows Media Player than AIFF.
I have my entire iTunes library in Apple Lossless and shared with WMP and also Media Center 2005. I can also use it in full lossless quality with Roku SoundBridge, Apple TV, iPhone, iPod, etc. etc. etc.

  • How can I export 1080i in best possible quality for internet streaming?

Sorry, I'm not too knowledgeable about this but I have Final Cut 6.0.4 and use/captured in HD-1080i. What's the best possible way to export this in great quality for internet streaming? What dimensions should I use? Any help would be extremely appreciated. Thank you!

ok i used h.264 main profile with 10 mbps and i am using multipass and size is 1280x720. i tried 24 and 30 key frames. quality is still lower
iv been experimenting on a 1.5 minute video to save time.  I imported the project from imovie into fcpx and changed nothing.  looking at the file that was created by imovie for the same video it is 1280x720 and uses codecs h.264 and aac the file size is 115 mb the extension is .mov and the color profile is HD (1-1-1) and total bitrate is 10,512 kbps. and the quality is the minimum acceptable for me.
The file i created using your settings above in compressor 4 is 118 mb and of lower quality. codecs used are h.264, aac, and Hint (not sure what hint is but noticed it isn't used with the .mov file) color prile is the same as above. total bitrate is 10,405 kbps.
Im not arguing that compressor 4 should be able to surpass imovie but so far i have only been able to do it by making the file size rediculous (>50 gb for 30 minutes).  I created a movie that was recorded with the same camera (25 mbps) 1080p 1920x1080. imovie made this 40 minute video just under 3 gb and with the same quality as the movie i am experimenting with.
There is a differnce between theory and practice. SO FAR THE RESULTS I AM SEEING IS THAT IMOVIE IS SUPERIOR IN QUALITY TO SIZE RATIO. imovie has very few options but the hd setting has surpassed what i have been able to do with fcpx.
i am willing to try any settings that anyone sugests.
personally i think i will try to export the movie at max quality then take the super large file to my windows laptop and convert to avi.  as in the past i have had much success with that format using divx. i realize that that is not the best method but i don't really want to spend hours re editing this video with imovie since the source footage is about 10 hours.
Thanks for trying still_learning but i am afraid you are still learning.

No. That's wrong. Whatever website you're looking at is out of date. I wouldn't suggest people run AE on less than 16 GB of RAM...
Anyway, you're not asking about After Effects!
For Photoshop, 8 GB is recommended. It will run on 4, but...8 is recommended. See this page: System requirements | Photoshop
Same with InDesign: System requirements | InDesign
Illustrator, on the other hand, runs just fine with 4 GB: System requirements | Illustrator

  • Best image format for websites

I make website named Softec Labs and I often use the JPG format to save most of my images because of the image clarity and sharpness. I have been hearing that the PNG format is ideal for the web because of its small file size, does the PNG format look as good as the JPG formats? And is there a slider to change the image quality like there is in photoshop for JPG's?

JPEG is a "lossy" format. That is, it throws information away (or, sorta, does random smoothing) to reduce the size. When you choose the quality setting you are deciding how much to throw away; at highest quality settings nobody will ever see, for photographs. JPEG is designed for photos (the "P" in JPEG), and a poor choice where there are non-photographic sharp edges, such as in text, as these produce more noticeable loss.
By contrast PNG is not lossy - it is "lossless". So no quality setting is needed. There are other options for reducing size, like reducing the number of colours.
So a PNG will be exactly like the original (at least if you don't reduce colours).  PNG can be a very good choice for solid areas of colour as in text; GIF is also suitable for these and has slightly wider support (though I think all mainstream browsers now support PNG).
For size, just do your own experiments. Thanks to Save for Web, you don't even need to save to compare quality and size.

  • Best DVD quality for 136 minute project

    Hello!
I am putting together DVD's for a show from a local theatre. The runtime is around 136 minutes HD video shot with a Sony HDR-HC3.
I did a rough copy to give to the director and used the 120 minute DVD settings in compressor. The quality was terrible and definitely not what i want for the final project. The HD video looks really good, and i've seen HD to SD DVD's still look pretty darn good on a decent TV.
So what is probably by best option for exporting into DVD Studio? If you need any other details please let me know.
    Thanks

what frame rate is your original material and what is the frame rate of your sequence?  If your original material is 23.98 fps, make sure you maintain that frame rate thru your workflow.  Adding compression markers in fcp around sections that have a lot of movement or are particularly complex may help.  Just make sure you include compression markers when you export to compressor.
Also, deleting all renders and sending to compressor from within fcp may give you a bit more quality.
And using a dual layer dvd will allow you to compress at a higher quality.  Unfortunately burned dual layer dvd's may not be as compatible as replicated dvds.

  • Best mac pro for websites

What do realistically need to setup a professional website. Mac Pro suggestions...

What do realistically need to setup a professional website.
How long is a piece of string?
Seriously. There are so many variables here.
For a start, 'professional' doesn't really say anything. There are professional, highly-designed, focussed web sites that target niche markets and may only see a few occasional hits. Then there are professional mass-market web sites that see billions of hits per month (e.g. YouTube). To say you want to setup a 'professional' web site doesn't mean anything in relation to the server.
Even moving on from there, 100,000 visitors doesn't mean much if they all come, look at the top (static) page and go away, when compared to 100,000 visitors who spend hours navigating through a media-rich environment that's 99% database driven with two-way, dynamic content on every page.
Pretty much any Mac, including the Mac Mini, can serve literally millions of hits per day if you're only dealing with static content. If you're dealing with dynamic content with a database back-end then that ups the ante significantly. Add multi-megabyte file downloads (such as video or audio files) into the mix and you have another bottleneck again.
Or maybe by 'professional' you mean you need something that's always available, so you're talking multiple servers for redundancy with automatic failover capability between them. That adds to the complexity
Or maybe by 'professional' you mean something that looks good and has a good user experience. For that you need a good web designer than understands modern web design - the actual platform its served off is largely irrelevant for that.
Typically you'll find your network bandwidth is your major constraint before you start to sweat on the server hardware. It doesn't sound like you have that set yet, which worries me a little. You're not planning on hosting this out of your house are you? If so have you considered the issues of power availability/reliability? network reliability? cooling? etc.
Few network providers offer significant service level agreements for residential connections. Many often prohibit running servers there anyway. You may need to step up to a business-grade service but at that point you might as well consider a hosted solution, or even a cloud-based solution which will let you scale based on your actual traffic needs and take care of much of the heavy-lifting for you.
So in short there are many variables here. You haven't provided enough information to be able to answer your question in any detail. It's all just speculation at this point.

  • Question on best audio quality for web

I am making a web series and I want the audio to be the best it can be, I have already tried to output it as an H.264 but the audio levels are very low and the levels are off.
    Any tips??

Do you know how to use soundtrack pro? you can use it to set your maximum level to -1 db, and then when you export your file from FCP, you'll have great levels for the web.

  • Best export quality for the Sony Alpha 65

I have some footage which I have exported however I don't think the quality is as good as when viewing the original video off the cam.
Any suggestions on the sequence settings and export settings?
    thanks

What format does the Alpha 65 shoot, and what CODEC is used?
The Sequence Setting should match that footage. In lieu of knowing that info (one really should know), a user can Import it into a Project, and then drag a Clip to the New Icon, to create a matching Sequence:

  • Best Resolution/Quality Settings For 4:3 Video Going To DVD...

    Hello,
I have several old Hi8 tapes that were imported into iMovie 10x and need to find the best export quality for these uncropped 4:3 videos. They will be exported via "Share > File"  into an MP4 file format (with H.264) and then sent to a third-party DVD program. So, what resolution and quality settings do I use?
Do I use the highest resolution (1280x720) and then gauge down the custom quality until it can fit on a 4.7GB DVD?
Do I use whatever resolution that can handle the quality of "High" and still fit on a 4.7GB DVD?
    Peace,
    Dr. Z.

    Hi
DVD is as standard - Interlaced SD-Video quality - Whatever Video-DVD authoring program used (e.g. iDVD, Toast etc)
Feeding iDVD Higher resolution and Progressive material - Will not improve the final DVD but decrease the quality as iDVD do a bad job in downscaling.
To get best possibly result I do
    - Use a Video-Editing program that can handle - Interlaced SD-Video quality - as iMovie up to HD6 and any version of FinalCut.
iMovie'08 to 11 can not do this in full.
    - Export as QuickTime .mov (just straight off) - if iMovie HD6 then just drop the Movie project icon into iDVD (All Quality is preserved)
    - Brand of DVD used - I only use Verbatim
    - Type of DVD used - RW-DVD usually do not work. R+DVD only works on Newer DVD-players - I use R-DVD
    - BURN SPEED - I set as low possibly
    - Free Space on Boot Hard Disk (Mac OS/Start-up one) - never less than 25Gb
This should deliver best possibly result.
    Good Luck !
    Yours Bengt W

  • Quicktime video clips for website

I would like to upload clips of a recent tv appearance on my website. The producer will give me the footage as a quicktime file, but he needs to know the following specs first: resolution, pixel h x w, and frame rate. (I'm not sure the producer himself knows what info he needs). Basically, each clip will be about three minutes long, and I'd like the best possible quality for the web, in a normal, youtube sized window. My webmaster doesn't know quicktime. Can anyone tell me what to tell the producer?

All you need to know is how big a file the're willing to allow to be downloaded.
There is sometimes a misconseption about streaming verses downloading a video. Streaming video requires a dedicated sever, (for the type of streaming you are going to be doing.)
If you are not going to stream, but rather download the video content, (known as progressive download) then the file can sit on the http server as a downloadable file, with a link to it, by embeding the files information in the web page, using the proper html code, from the vendor to the media content you are going to use.
We use Quicktime here and do true streaming, using a Xserver and stream via RTSP proticol. The web server then has a reference movie embed in the web page that directs the enduser to the streaming servers address, which is then sent to the web page with the embed information for QT and the end view can watch the movie, without every downloading any of the content to there local drive. This protects the content from being downloaded by the end user and alos gives random access to any part of the media, at will, (no waiting for all of the file to download, like progressive does.)
If you choose to do, (what most sites do, progressive download) then you only need the http web server and a large hardrive or RAID storage for the media content. These file are then downloaded when the end user clicks on the link provided in the web page, and you will see a progression bar below the movie as the file downloads. A dedicated streaming server is not used in this case, just the http server as a download server.
Most web movies are currently running a window at 320x240 or in my case, (using the QT codec, H.264) 480x360 for SD video. We stream at the following streaming sizes, 128k, 512k & 1024k, using the above window size for all.
Our software that we encode with is Episode Pro, (our primary encoder) or Cleaner 6.5, (this is a second choice, (due to lack of support by Auto Desk who owns Cleaner.) We also encode with Sorenson 4.5, but not offten.
    Hope this helps?
