My N95 review

It’s almost a year now that I was waiting for this magnificent piece of technology, I mean 5 megapixel camera, 3.5G, WLAN, S60…what could you ask for more? Surely the N93 turned heads with its twisting and turning but this baby did more than that.
So let’s see my first impression after I opened the box…it looked exactly like those ads we see everyday on the highway or on the internet, only smaller and better looking.
I saw a huge screen with QVGA resolution and 16 million colours, 13 main keys including a joy-pad, a stylishly placed camera popping out of the housing, a speaker, and that infamous Nokia N sign.
On the right side of the phone I see something that reminds me of the N73, not just the colour, but those blue backlighten keys. Up and down, gallery, autofocus and camera buttons and also a “chrome” speaker grill with 12 holes.
On the left side there is another speaker grill and a special 3.5mm jack of which I will speak about later, it also has an infrared cover and the microSD slot, very nicely built on the cover and easy to remove.
On the back we obviously find that awesome Carl Zeiss lens 5 megapixel camera with DVD recording and a powerful flash and even a stylish shutter. You also find the battery cover, which contains a BL-5F 950 MaH battery, same as the N93.
The top part has simply a ON/OFF/Profiles button while the bottom has a charger input, a miniUSB port and a microphone.
The phone is very thick, 21mm. We can compare it to the massive 7710 but its quite light for its kind, especially without the battery. The weight is 120g, it’s 99mm long and 53mm wide.
The main keypad feels weird for people who are used to Nokia’s soft keys. The soft keys are still there but they are made real thin as there are Menu and Multimedia keys next to them, so if you’re not careful, you will press the wrong buttons but eventually times cures everything.
Time to slide the cover up and uncover an ergonomic keypad. This keypad is rather small for such a big space, but it’s not an issue, because the keys and modelled in such a 3D shape that it’s actually comfortable and pleasant to play with them. There is a line dividing the first row of keys from the rest, I don’t know why though. The GPS module is under the # key and the lock slide sensor is in the middle of the first row of keys. There is sort of a wall that looks like a cover of the phone: between the keypad and the cover there is a big space and you can rest your fingers there, quite nice and stylish I would say.
The keypad lightning is done very well, there are lines of blue light coming between the keys when it’s dark and it gives the phone that futuristic look. The lightning of the LCD is also done very well, a very bright screen but still a perfect contrast.
This slider phone got something I’ve never seen on a phone of its shape: the base is huge and the top slide is thin as a needle. But moving on to the other slide, I notice that when opening the slide, it makes an ugly and loud voice, oppposite of when closing the phone. Turning the phone on the pther way, activates the landscape mode. They multimedia keys on the left side of the phone aren’t keys, they feel like a touchpad, you can’t see them, they are flat, a stylish manouvre and an ergonomic choice, they are also blue backlit. When turning the phone to landscape mode triggers the multimedia menu which can be customized, and pressing the play button activates the music player. The screen’s rotation is quite fast and it doesn’t usually crash.
And then, there’s that camera shutter. Just like in a proper camera, sliding the shutter down activates camera mode, even if the keypad is locked, and only this way the right side keys will light up.
What to expect from this Symbian OS9.2S60 V3 with FP1? Oh well, looking from the past this OS seemed to be advancing to an extreme, possibly outlining Windows itself! But no…9.2 isnt that great unfortunately, perhaps I’m owner of a young version of it, my phone has v10.0.0.18 on it, and it behaves quite well in general, although no AGPS or FOTA on this version yet.
On the waiting screen we have that old S60 GUI with the active desktop, WLAN status, shortcuts, operator, signal, battery, clock and the selected profile. We head to the menu and see the 4x3 assembly with animated icons or the choice of list view. There are 3 folders: tools, applications and office. There is a little tool called Search and was built in conjunction with Windows Live, some marketing from the Microsoft guys I guess. There’s also a Maps application which I will talk about later.
When you enter Settings you can see everything much more organised and clear, more functions, practicaly everything is connected to the Settings program, even the Themes.
The GPS Data application tells you the Latitude, Longitude, Precision, Altitude, Altitude Precision and Speed, and on the other tab you can find averages and bearing (compass). Then there is the actual maps application. You must have your country’s maps installed, as in doesn’t come with every country, unfortunately most African countries aren’t there which is bad for me as I’m somewhat an explorer. Another disadvantage is that voice navigation is costly. You can see roads, petrol stations, define and save places with the application. The search button doesn’t work well as my searches always return no results, and the GPS takes quite long to startup. The latest firmware version (12) offers Assisted-GPS but that will need some sort of internet connection. The voice navigation cost 106$ for 3 years.
The web browser is very advanced, letting you open different windows, offerring minimaps and a mouse cursor, quite lovely. It also plays Javascript and flash animations.
The music player improved a lot, let’s you search for music, shiws album art and has fantastic visualizations. It has 6 predefined equalizers and you can change the settings on 5 of them. There is a modern multi functional headset device of which I will talk about later on.
In the Office folder you can find a Zip application, I wonder what does…There is also a Video Centre application which streams/downloads videos from different sources like Reuters.
When it comes to connectivity, the N95 is king. Starting with Bluetooth 2.0, transfers at full speed and up to 6 devices at the same time. Followed by the old infrared system, and then the ever-growing Wireless LAN, which let’s you easily access internet and join networks. Unfortunately you cannot create networks with other phones.
Then there’s our lovely HSDPA or 3.5G. Fast browsing and downloading at 1.8mbps, just awesome. If that doesn’t work, there’s 3G, EDGE, and EGPRS which is an advanced class of GPRS.
There’s also a miniUSD port which when connected with a cable provides Mass Storage, PC Suite, Media Player and Image Print options. Of course Mass Storage won’t activate if you got a theme or an application running from the memory card.
As I said before, I would like to especially talk about that 3.5mm jack on steroids. Normal jacks offer just a two channel input or output. This one has 3 channels, both input and output at the same time, which is a wonderful connection by Nokia, I haven’t seen it or atlease noticed it anywhere else, so for me, these small details count a lot. This special jack helps with the audio controller and also makes way for TV-Out. It can be used normally and connected to stereo systems.
Now it’s time for the camera, it offers 0.3mp, 0.8mp, 2mp, 3m and 5mp resolutions. There are options such as: capture mode; flash option; timer; sequence mode; light compensator; white balance; colour tone; ISO sensitivity; contrast; and sharpness.
Video mode at 640x480 30fps has options of mode, white balance and colour tone.
What was really missing here is optical zoom as its digital zoom is unfocused. The front CIF camera works poorly as it’s only for video calls.
The flash is very powerful, in totally dark situations, it looks like daylight, especially indoors.
The sound on this device is great, 3D Stereo speakers offering a loud quality music output, even as a loudspeaker for calls it behaves perfectly. Unfortunately the included stereo earphones are really soft, so you might have to get a new pair. The memory card included should be enough to store about 300 songs, it’s a 1GB. The music can be converted through PC Suite, but this phone supports most music formats so it won’t be necessary unless you wish to change the bitrate.
Now any phonehas faults, and the N95 is no exception: the lights on the multimedia keys off during music playback, not nice if you are driving at night and want to pause the song as you won’t be able to see the keys. The battery doesn’t last long, 950mah is very light, and if the default screen saver isn’t set to an acceptable time range, the phone will die very quicly as the screen consumes and extreme amount of electricity. If you use the phone moderately, let’s say for internet and music, you will end you charging it every night or so.
The top slide isn’t assembled properly, you can see some cracks and openings on the sides, and white light escapes minimally, this tells us that the phone is very fragile.
The sildes makes a huge noise as I said before, this problem doesn’t exist on the competitors, and Nokia failed there.
If you have a third party 3D theme running the phone will considerably slow down, especially on typing.
When playing Java built games, the phone’s battery lasts long enough, but when playing SISX games that push the powerful Graphics IC to its limit, the battery drains quite badly.
Java applications all drain the RAM very badly and the phone crashes if you try to multitask, making me restart the phone, and that can get irritating for heavy users like me, as you will have to restart 5+ times per day.
The phone comes with a good audio controller for earphones or an external audio output. The controller features a microphone, a 3.5mm stereo jack, a holder, a security key lock, volume up and down, answer button, play, forward and backward buttons.
The provided earphones have an extremely short left ear cable and a long right ear cable which is not very comfortable.
A TV-Out cable is also provided.
Advantages: 5mp Carl Zeiss camera with Autofocus; DVD-like recording; Powerful flash; loud speakers; 3.5mm jack with 3 channels; HSDPA; GPS; S60 OS9.2
Disadvantages: Weak battery; GPS takes long to startup; OS is still young in some aspects.

EPrint/Apps Connectivity Troubleshooting - Please Review

ePrint & Print Apps Connectivity Troubleshooting Steps – Please Review before posting
This information below is provided to help you to resolve web services connectivity problems to enable your printer to print with ePrint, launch/use Print Apps, enable web services, print your web services info sheet, or add your printer to your account on the HP ePrintCenter. Only items that have actually been shown to resolve customer issues have been included in the list.
For best results review and apply the applicable steps below in the order presented before posting a request for help in the forum, so that forum members who respond to your post can provide the best possible assistance.

Before applying the troubleshooting information below:
If you receive an “Invalid code” message when you try to add your printer to your HPePrintCenter account, but aren’t having any other problems using ePrint and Print Apps, you most likely only need to reprint your web services info sheet from your printer. Your printer's claiming code that is printed on the info sheet can only be used to add your printer to your ePC account for 24 hours after printing the info sheet. Reprinting the info sheet doesn't change your claiming code, it just re-enables your printer to be added to your ePC account for another 24 hours. See here for the steps to re-print your web services info sheet.
If you enabled Web Services on your printer but the Web Services info sheet containing your printer’s claiming code did not print, your printer has not fully completed its web services registration and will not print ePrint emails or print app content. In this case you will not receive any error messages on the printer and you can view your printer’s email address on the printer front panel display. If your web services info sheet does not print within five minutes of enabling web services, try removing and enabling web services again. If your Web Services info sheet still does not print after re-enabling web services, you will need to wait and try again later.   If you do receive error messages when trying to enable web services, continue to the web services connectivity troubleshooting steps below.
If you have ePrint emails that aren’t printing, please first ensure you confirm your emails meet ePrint format/attachment requirements. Review the ePrint email requirements in the ePrint FAQ/Help on HP ePrintCenter at www.hpeprintcenter.com. You can also check your printer’s connectivity status and ePrint job list on HP ePrintCenter if you have created an account there and added your printer. (Always use the “Refresh” button on the ePC page, not your browser refresh button, to view updated printer connection status on the HP ePrintCenter.)
A.     Easy steps that can be surprisingly helpful – try these first:
Verify your network’s internet access is working – on a computer connected to your network, use a web browser like Internet Explorer or Firefox to view a web page. If you can’t access the internet your internet service provider may be having a service issue that is affecting ePrint/Print Apps.
Go to HP ePrintCenter and look in the News section (http://h30495.www3.hp.com/news/ ) to see if there are any service status updates. In some cases, you might just need to wait a little while and try again.
Turn wifi off and then on again on your printer and wait for a minute for your printer to reconnect to your network
Reboot your printer - turn power off and then on) and wait for a minute for it to reconnect to your network
Reboot your router - remove the power cord from the back of the router, wait a minute, and then plug it in again and wait for at least a minute for the router to power up and all your devices to reconnect.
B.      Check your printer’s IP address to confirm it is connected to your network.
Verify that your printer has a valid IP address (for example, typically 192.168.x.x on a home wireless network) by viewing the network settings screen in the Networking or Wireless menu on your device’s front panel display, or by printing a Printer Status Report (usually found on the Tools menu). If your printer does not have a valid IP address re-run the network setup process for your printer.   For more help with setting up or troubleshooting your HP printer’s connection to a wireless network, go to http://www.hp.com/go/wirelessprinting
C.      Confirm that both your printer and router have up-to-date firmware:
Having up-to-date firmware on your printer or router is important to use web services.
Check to ensure you have the latest firmware (FW) for your printer by checking for product updates, usually found under the “Web” or “Preferences” options on your printer’s menu. If your printer finds an update but is unable to complete downloading/installing it, ensure your router FW is up to date and try again. If your printer continues to fail to complete the download of an available FW update, continue to “E. Set a Manual IP/DNS Server” below.
Check to ensure that you have the latest firmware for your router – review your router documentation/help (or the router manufacturer’s web site) for information on how to check for and install firmware updates.
Resolve temporary connection failure after printer firmware upgrade
Some printers may experience connection failure after firmware upgrade. This is because the printer reboots itself after firmware updates and needs to re-establish network connection.
Check to ensure the printer has been given a valid local IP by your router (eg. 192.168.x.x if DHCP is used) before trying to access print apps or using ePrint. You can see your printer’s IP address by going to the printer’s Wireless or Network setup menu.
If you don’t see an IP, you may have to restart the printer. In some cases, you may have to remove and re-enable web services to re-establish your connection.
Refer to the FAQ & Help section on HP ePrintCenter for more information on how to remove and re-enable web services from your printer.
Allow your printer enough time to reconnect to your network after you try any of the steps above, before you try ePrint or Print Apps again.
D.     Remove and Re-enable Web Services and Restore Factory Defaults
Remove and then re-enable web services on your printer. If the web services info sheet does not automatically print within a few minutes of re-enabling web services, web services has not been fully enabled on your printer.   You may need to wait and remove and re-enable web services again in few hours to allow the issues affecting your printer’s communication with the cloud servers to clear up. Until a web services info sheet prints out your web services registration is not complete.   Complete the steps below while your printer is connected to the Internet.
Photosmart: The Remove Web Services option is available either under the Setup>Wireless>Web Services menu option, or the Setup>Web option, or via the ePrint icon on the printer front panel.
On the eStation select the Menu button on the eStation display (to the right of the Home and Back buttons at the top left when the display is docked on the printer); Select Settings; Select "Web Services”; Select the “Web Services” checkbox.
Officejet: Use Setup > Web Services Setup > Restore Factory Settings to remove Web Services from the printer.
LaserJet: Print a configuration page from your printer to locate the IP address. Open a Web browser and type the product IP address into the address line. The HP-embedded Web Server will open. Click the HP Web Services tab. Select the option to remove Web Services.
2. Restore Factory Defaults on your device. If removing and re-enabling web services does not resolve the problem, restore factory defaults on your printer and try again. The factory default option is usually found in the Setup>Tools menu on your printer.   Do the following on your device:
Remove/Disable Web Services
Restore factory defaults/settings (depending on the printer this is found under the Setup>Tools menu, or the Setup>Web Services menus, but varies by printer)
If prompted, re-do initial setup of your device and add it to your network
Re-enable Web Services
Once the Web Services information sheet is printed, use the printer claiming code to add your printer to your account on ePrintCenter
E.      Set a Manual IP/DNS Server settings on your printer
Setting a manual IP address/DNS Server on your printer will resolve web services connectivity issues that can occur on some networks with some routers. Note: Setting a manual IP/DNS Server may be particularly helpful on networks using DSL/VIOS routers.
Please read the instructions below completely before applying them. You should not attempt these on your own if you don't understand networking basics. Most of us have a "techie" buddy/friend/family member...if you're not comfortable this might be a good time to call him/her, or contact HP support to assist you.
Before you begin, first remove Web Services from your printer if it has been enabled. (See section D. 1. above.) Removing web services will remove your printer from your HPePrintCenter.com account (if you have previously set up an account and added it). When you re-enable web services after completing these steps you will have a new ePrint email address and need to add your printer to your ePC account again.
How to set a manual IP address/DNS Server on your web-connected printer:
Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer front panel. On some printers this will be under Wireless>Wireless Settings, and on other models use the “Print Report” option from the Wireless status screen accessed from the wireless icon on the printer home screen.   Note the printer's IP address that is listed in the IPv4 section of the report. On most printers you can also see the printer’s IP address from the Wireless menu, or on the Wireless status screen.
Type that IP address into your browser address bar (where you would normally type a web page URL) and hit enter - this will load the printer's internal settings page (also known as an Embedded Web Server, or EWS)
Select the “Network” or “Networking” tab (the label varies depending on printer model) from the tabs along the top of the screen in the EWS
Depending on your printer model, the next step(s) will vary:
Select the “IPv4” option from along the left side of the Networking screen
or
Select the “Networking” option from the left side of the screen
Then select the “Network Address (IP)” option from the left side of the screen
The screen you end up on should be the “IP Address Configuration” screen. That screen allows you to choose an Automatic or Manual (i.e., fixed) IP address for your printer, as well as Subnet Mask and Default Gateway values. You will use this screen to set a Manual IP address and DNS Server for your printer.
To continue:
Select the radio button next to “Manual IP”
Select the “Suggest a Manual IP Address” option below the IP address fields. The Manual IP address fields will automatically populate with suggested values after a few moments.
Select the “Manual DNS Server” radio button in the DNS Address Configuration section
Enter the address just entered in the “Manual Default Gateway” into the “Manual Preferred DNS Server” field. Leave the “Manual Alternate DNS Server” entry blank.
Carefully double-check the values you entered to make sure they are all correct.
Click 'Apply'
Save any open documents and close any web browsers on any computers
Turn off the printer and unplug the router.
Plug in the router, wait for it to start up and for status lights to settle down (approximately a minute at least), then turn on the printer.
After the printer has connected to your network, enable web services on your device, accept any firmware updates that may be offered, and add your printer to your account on HPePrintCenter.
In some cases you might need to add the printer to your computer’s Printer/My Printers folder again, after you set the new manual IP address.   If you have problems printing to your printer, simply use the option to add a printer, select the Networked printer type, and complete the add printer wizard. You will not need to reinstall any printer software on your computer.
F.       Check for port/proxy issues
Note: These issues are not commonly experienced, and primarily affect users in business environments.
ePrint and Print Apps require access to establish connections out to HP servers via ports 80, 443, 5222 and 5223. Primarily in some business environments, network administrators may block devices initiating communication from within the firewall on some of these ports. Please check with your network administrator or Internet Service Provider to make sure those ports are not blocked on your router/firewall for outward-bound communication initiated by your printer.
Important Note: We are not suggesting that you set up port forwarding on your router to open these ports for connections initiated from outside your network to your printer. That is not required and could be a security risk for your network.
2. In some business environments the local network which the printer is connected to may require a proxy setting to access the Internet.   Check with your IT Administrator or Internet Service Provider (ISP) for proxy setting if necessary. Most ISP for home users do not require proxy configuration for Internet access. (Note: HP web connect printers currently do not support secure proxy servers)

eprint has to be the biggest boondoggle ever created. HP should be embarrased by their incompeetance - been two weeks and I have not been able to access the feature. Told a number of times (after LONG wait on phone) that there were problems with their servers and to try again in a day or so - very helpful and professional. Feel like I'm dealing with "Dogbert" customer support in Dilbert cartoon world. Can't log on using snapfish or any other means. I guess I just have to give up and recognize that HP just doesn't care - false advertising and promotion. No satisfaction.

Which IE Tab extension is the latest/best for FF 14+?

The Add-Ons library contains several IE Tab extensions. Their names and version numbers provide no clue as to which is the latest or best for current versions of FF. I just discovered that I have 3 IE Tab extensions. Shouldn't I need only one? Which one?

Seems to have the best user reviews as of late.
BTW, not the best idea to have multiple similar add-ons installed, even if only one is enabled at a time. If you are looking to test and compare similar add-ons you are better using separate Firefox Profiles for each.

Thinking about getting a new macbook pro, just a few questions first --

I've been a mac user for about 5 years now and I love them. I've had a white 2.0 c2d macbook for about a year now. I primarily used this macbook for work, and my PC desktop for occasional games. I was thinking about getting a mac pro to do some gaming since my PC desktop broke about 2 months ago, but recently I've been getting more expenses so my wallet has grown thinner. So now I don't really have enough cash to get the mac pro. I also can't sell the macbook for a mac pro because I need something mobile for work. What I can do though is sell my macbook and get a macbook pro.
My question to you guys is, how do you like your macbook pro as a desktop replacement? I have a dell 2407-HC monitor as well to use with it. Does it game well over boot camp? I know cider hasn't yielded good performance, so please stick to bootcamp reviews. I'm not looking at anything really really intense, as I don't really have time to do as much gaming as I used to, but it'd be nice if it could run the orange box (mostly team fortress 2), dawn of war dark crusade, assassin's creed (when it comes out), and possibly the warhammer online mmo or age of conan mmo.
The other question is whether or not I should wait for a new one. Macrumors says that it's been about 150 days, and the macbook pros are updated every 180 days or so. I've already waited a few months since my desktop broke to see if the mac pro was going to be updated for penryn, but now the situation has changed, and now it looks like I might have to wait if I want a macbook pro. So, to wait or not to wait?
Any other opinions are welcome as well. Thanks.

Benefit of the QUAD core and the BASE UNIT 13" is extra cores for "heavy" photo and video editing and dedicated graphics

Multiple Linux JComboBox drops in the same position

Following program create two similar JComboBox dropdown, and in Linux, when it runs, it works weirdly.
If I first click first dropdown (s1), then later when I click second one (s2), dropdown part still appears under the first component.

All of the features you're asking for are very easy to add and control in LabVIEW once you know what you're looking for. To show the Front Panel of a SubVI, open the VI and navigate to its "Customize Window Appearance" window (this is in File>VI Properties, select Category: Window Appearance, then click "Customize"). Check the "Show Front Panel when called" checkbox.
However, there are quite a few other properties you'll likely want to edit as well, so it would be best to review the LabVIEW Topic: "Customize Window Appearance Dialog Box".
In your main VI, put the SubVI in the True case of a Case Structure, then connect your button to the selector terminal. The more complex behavior your asking for can be achieved using multiple case structures.

doesn't have the best of reviews. But there is also the option of a third party app like Print Central or Print n Share to allow printing to wifi printers

Harman Kardon avr 1700

Hi,
I noticed Best Buy is selling the Harman Kardon avr 1700 for $250. I am hesitant to buy because I noticed it has a different type of amplifier/power supply, type D I think. The receiver weights 12.8 lbs vs 18lbs.
Has anyone listened to the Harman Kardon 1700 in Best Buy stores. I am curious of the sound quality. There are no reviews of the sound quality besides Best Buy reviews on the product page.
Best Buy black friday ads show that the Denon AVR 1613 will be on sale for $275. I was curious how the HK 1700 would sound compared to the Denon 1613. If the Denon sounds alot better I would wait and buy it online from BB on black friday. the specs show that the Denon 1613 and HK 1700 have comparable features for the most part.
I bought JBL CS 480 surround sound system and need a good receiver to power it. Will accept other suggestions too.

I said nothing of the sort. I simply stated that audiophiles don't buy $300.00 AVR's. Most of them most likely aren't buying their gear at Best Buy either, at least not outside of the Magnolia section. Most audiophiles are still buying seperates rather than an AVR because let's face it, for music, which is what most audiophiles really care about, $300.00 AVR's simply aren't that great.
However, $300.00 AVR's can be great for multichannel. The basic internals like the DSP are the same across most model lines on most companies AVR's. The differences in price comes solely from things like the number and types of connections, network or serial connectivity, and the software features in the AVR. Most AVR's under $300.00 don't come with helpful features like Pinking Tools (Audyssey MutliEQ, EzSet) or volume balancing and loudness adjustment features like Audyssey Dynamic EQ and Volume.
For that price getting MultiEQ, Audyssey Dynamic EQ and Volume the Denon is a great bargain for anyone that's looking for an entry level AVR.

N8 going to be next N97

PROBLEMS in Nokia N8 (2 days of use )
1.Starts Hanging from Day 1without much applications opened.
2.Incoming call can not be attended -- ERROR is that it says --- not allowed as if i m in another call. What is this rubbish. i have to call back and restart my N8. I have noticed that it shows CALL2 above the name of caller and thats why it treats this as another operation or some thing like that
3.I took Photos from My New Nokia N8 and i have to say that my BEST of BEST N95 has better camera by far. photos are dull and with Orangish HAZE as if taken from 2 mega pix camera. Second thought and a question --- Do i have to remove the original protector to improve the quality ??
4. Touch goes awkward in PREDICTIVE TEXT INPUT. if i type one letter say d on screen it comes 3 times d continously.
4. i m not very happy spending QUARTER of A LAC on it. please help nokia for improving and Suggest me some remedies.

Yes you absolutely have to remove the protective film, it causes the image to look foggy. its only intedended to protect the cam etc during packing in the factory, not to be kept on after purchase.

It could be that you have call waiting enabled but your service provider does not support this.
The other hang etc issues, sounds a bit weird as there has been few or none reports of this, might be faulty software on the device you bought, try handing it in at a nokia care center.

Exporting Image Sequence

Hi, I'm using the oringal FCX and am going to make a slide show, displaying my porfolio of artwork in a jazzed up manner to impress potential art schools. I have 2 questions regarding playback/exporting. 1. when playing back the sequence, the image looks pixelated slightly. Is that because it's just being displayed on the moniter/FCX program? and 2. What is the best way I should export this project? I want to put it on a dvd but don't know how to do that. Also, if I want to make it a mpeg or divx or something what is the best one for images and text only... I want as little or no compression at all. My desire is to mail a cd or dvd with my school application to impress the art program hopefully... thanks!

Most likely. If you hit pause and the image cleans up then it's a computer/monitor issue. It's always best to review your timeline on an interlaced TV/Monitor.

Export using File>Export>Final Cut Movie (you are using Version 1?)
Bring this export to iDVD or similar app.

FCE has limited options here. Mpeg 4 is one otion. DIVX; you'll need a third party app and an understanding of how it and compression works to get that elusive near perfect picture with small file size. It's quite a black art.

Reorganizing pics for slide show

In Elements 11 can I rearrange pictures in order I want for a slide show? I have about 1000 pics I want to arrange in new order for a 300 picture travelogue.

The Organizer lets you use three tools :
- tags
- albums
- ratings
To organize for the slideshow, it may be best to review your 1 000 pictures after having made a manual 'script' of the different phases of the event. At the same time you give a rating to be able to see only the best and adequate quality pictures and assign them tags (the usual ones : people, places, phases of the event).
Then you can create one or better several albums to be able to sort the pictures in your preferred order (which is not necessarily chronological)
That makes it easier to group your pictures in handy collections for each part of the event. When your different phases are ok, you can create a new final album by adding each one of the sub-albums.
You are then ready to work either in Premiere Elements or another software.
In both cases, it may be useful to 'export' your album photos as copies, with the options of file size and format for your project and possibly renaming in sequence order.

Help with .avi files.

Hey, I have 4.44 GB i .avi files that I want to play on my iPad,
I really do not want to convert all of those files.
I have tried FlexPlayer.
It keeps on crashing and not all the names show up.
I am going to try PlayAble later.
Could someone please recommend an app I could use.
I would prefer free but if it's paid I don't mind as long as it's not too much,

Both flex:player (don't let the name make you think it's great) and Playable suck - they're on the worse end of spectrum. Don't bother with them.
If you absolutely want free, go for either MoliPlayer or QQPlayer, they're the best. (Reviews are at http://www.iphonelife.com/blog/87/review-brand-new-free-video-player-qqplayerhd and http://www.iphonelife.com/blog/87/free-multimedia-player-moliplayer-ipad-fixed-a nd-enhanced-now-its-recommended ).
Nevertheless, I really would get a decent commercial player instead. The size of the AVI file hints on it being (at least 720p) HD. For that, you'll need AVPlayerHD or ProPlayer. (These two have the best, most effective MPEG4 / ASP decoder. They're basically the same so you only want to purchase one of them.)

Help--phone constantly sliding display to the right......

I started noticing this last night, but today it's almost constant.
My Droid is fighting against me, scrolling the display to the rightmost screen. And while I'm reading on the Kindle app, it scrolls and jumps around randomly.
This just started yesterday--I haven't downloaded anything new from the Market, and I didn't do anything to my phone that I know of....
Any ideas? I did try rebooting, but I'd rather avoid a hard reset if I can.......

I was unable to locate your particular issue as one that was reported but I can provide you with some trouble shooting steps that may help with your issue. I would first start by putting the phone in safe mode. This function disables the apps that were installed on your phone from the Android Market temporarily. This will allow you to figure out if one of the apps you installed is causing the problem. I will list the steps below. You can also try removing and re-adding the Kindle app to your phone.
-You will need to press and hold down the power key
--select power off
--select ok
--press power key
--When the second HTC Logo screen appears, press and hold the volume down key, the menu key and the optical joystick at the same time. This may take up to 30 seconds.
To disable the safe mode, you may use the steps below
--Press and hold down the Power Key
--Select Power Off.
--Select OK.
To remove the Kindle application, you can use the steps below. Applications included with the Android Operating System may not have an uninstall option.
From the home screen, touch the applications tab (located in the lower-left).
Touch Settings.
Touch Applications.
Touch Manage applications.
Touch the application.
Touch Uninstall.
Touch OK.
