Best option to save data populated from a web service?

I have manage to made a windows form that uses a web service to populate the data into a DataGridView. Then I have a column for adding comments next to each row. So a user could add some comments about this data for each row. Also I have a drop down list
to select some options for each row.
Actually everytime when connecting to this web service there are 7 DataGridViews that are populated with data, one for each TabPage added to a TabControl. So 7 tabs then.
If I close this form and reopen it then it's all gone.
What is the simpliest way if I want to store the settings (comments and selected option in drop down list). The idea is that I want to store this as a project under a name like "Project1", "Project2" etc. So every project would
have their own settings. Then when starting the application all over again, instead of populate it from the webservice, I then load it from wherever it's stored. So I can pick the particular project I want for example "Project1".
So what is the easiest options here? Would it be best to store it in a database or could it be stored in different datasets (one for each project)? Also if I use a dataset every TabPage with it's own unique DataGrid would then be represented as DataTable
I suppose. But then I don't know if the data in a dataset would still be there the next time - if it only stores temporarily?
As for now my only intention is to build this for myself, so I don't need to have any end user in mind.

Hello,
Here is one idea which may  be implemented in several ways.
The data stored locally that is not available in the web service (let's look at the web service as read-only) could be stored in a xml file then read into your project via DataSet.ReadXml and DataSetWriteXml to save changes.
For this to work you need to utilize primary keys to identify data coming from the service to match up with locally saved data.
That is the concept which as stated above can be implemented in many ways. I would suggest using a class dedicated to the above and not place the bulk of the code into your forms.

  • I can't figure out data binding from a web service.

    Hi,
    I've been trying to figure out how to connect a TreeTable control with data from a non-SAP web server. Here's what I have so far;
        I have a sample program that uses json in a variable called oData.
        I have a TreeTable control named oTable.
        I create a model;
            var oModel = new sap.ui.model.json.JSONModel();
        I feed the oData variable into it;
            oModel.setData(oData);
        Finally, I feed the oModel to the oTable;
            oTable.setModel(oModel);
    That all makes sense. What I want to do is get the data from a web service. The only examples I've been able to find show how to configure an SAP data service and then connect to that. They don't give any details of the format that the SAP data service is sending. I don't have access to an SAP system so I can't set one up to reverse-engineer the data. I'm going to be writting my own oData service for this so I need a couple of things;
        1. An example of json or xml data as it's sent from a web server.
        2. An example of how you pull that data from the web service to an SAP ui model.
    I could really use some help. I haven't been able to find any examples that make sense to me.

    Hi Joe
    Here is an small example. Maybe it is useful to you.
    In this example, I  bind the tree to /root and you can see that we have 0: 1: elements under each element recursively.

  • Dynamic pagination using inputs from a Web Service data control

    I am in process of creating a pagination UI component , much similiar to the one used in Oracle forums eg: Pages: 100 [1 2 3 4 5 | Next ]
    I am making use of a Web Service to get the following details for my search results :
    a) Number of search result rows (100) ,
    b) total number of rows to be shown on one page (5)
    c) Total number of pages
    I am wondering how to create the pagination UI control in my ADF Faces page and How can I bind the web service data control to the pagination component for a simple dynamic navigation
    Please advice. I am new to ADF development, so looking inputs for approach to the above elucidated problem (Code not required)

    Yes I am using <af:commandLink > component
    <af:forEach
    var="list" items="#{NavBean.list}">
    <af:spacer width="5" height="10" id="s1"/>
    <af:panelGroupLayout id="pgl2" layout="horizontal"
    halign="center"
    inlineStyle="#{list.found ? 'background-color:#aeccd8;' : 'background-color:white;'} text-align:center; width:15px; ">
    <af:commandLink text="#{list.character}" id="cl1"
    partialSubmit="true"
    disabled="#{list.found ? false : true}"
    actionListener="#{NavBean.onIndexSelected}">
    <f:attribute name="indxKey" value="#{list.character}"/>
    </af:commandLink>
    </af:panelGroupLayout>
    </af:forEach>
    I have created a NavBean managed bean with some methods and foll set of instance variable:
    List<IndexCharacterObject> list = null;
    int startRow;
    int endRow;
    int pageNumber;
    int numPages;
    int totalRows;
    I want these variables in the Managed bean class to be automatically populated from the Web Service data control .. Not sure how to go about binding these values ?

  • Some data is missing while returning complex datatype from a web service

    Hi
    I am returning a complex data type from a web service. complex data type has a super class and some(not all) values from this super class are not being returned to the client. Strange part is that it giving some fields from super class and some values are not returned.
    I saw the soap response also it does not show any tag for those fields. but while creating a response i am setting some string values to those fields but i am not getting at client side.
    all the serailiastion and deseialization classes where created using ANT tasks and i have checked that all the cedec classes have been created.

    for what it's worth, the same problem was reported by one of our developers, although the string size was considerably smaller (probably less then 1 MB). According to him, soap clients generated from apache tools could connect fine and process the XML records. JDev hung. We simply changed our use case to return smaller results sets, but perhaps you could also generate your clients with WSDL2Java rather then JDev (if it is a truly a bug in JDev SOAP)? Can you add record parameters to the payload, in order to limit the results and scroll between remaining rows?

  • Base data block on a web service

    Hy,
    I need to integrate an oracle forms application with data provided from other applications (via web services), like countries, cities, users ecc.
    there is a way to base a data block (in forms web 6/10 with Java Importer) on a data returned from a web service?
    Can i base block on a PL/SQL variable, returned from java, that contains data from web service?
    Thanks at all.

  • Best Way to Save Data

    Hi all, I'm relatively new to Java, and have a quick question.
    What is the best way to save data in an application, and what is a good rule of thumb when to dive into a database to hold the information. For example a directory of people and their information. I want the program to be able to add/update/delete the information with ease.
    I was reading in Core Java Vol II how to save object data to a file, but it seems tedious if I have to run through a list of objects and save each one. I just want to be able to save records, and retrieve them to edit later.
    Thanks in advance,

    What is the best way to save data in an applicationThere is almost never a "best way" to do anything. At least not if you don't define your requirements exactly. It depends on tons of things, that's why there are so many ways to "save data".
    Writing to files and saving to databases are just two of those, and even among those, there are thousand of different ways to handle it.
    , and what is a good rule of thumb when to dive into a database to hold the information.When the data is structured and you want to do queries on it, then you can probably look into a database. When the data is structured and you've got lots of it, then you really should look into databases.
    For example a directory of people and their information. I want the program to be able to add/update/delete the information with ease.Too little information, but I'd tend to go with a database. But then again, I'm going for a DB rather quickly.
    I was reading in Core Java Vol II how to save object data to a file, but it seems tedious if I have to run through a list of objects and save each one.I don't know what exactly you're talking about. Are you talking about serialization? What makes you feel that it is tedious? Can you describe it?
    I just want to be able to save records, and retrieve them to edit later.Well, that can be done in many, many ways. That alone doesn't force you to go one way or another. It's pretty much the definition of "save data".

  • How to save data acquired from NI-DAQ in text format instead of TDMS using the DAQ-mx ANSI C code?

    Hi,
    I wanted to save data acquired from NI-DAQ (for example, NI 9234) in a file using the DAQ-mx ANSI C Code. The response I got was as follows:-
    One way to do it is with TDMS logging. DAQmx comes with functions designed to log to a TDMS file. This is a special file type that is used for collecting data in a logical format. It can be displayed in a TDMS viewer where data is separated into groups and channels. NI-DAQmx provides examples for how to log to TDMS. Look at the TDMS examples in the C:\Users\Public\Documents\National Instruments\NI-DAQ\Examples\DAQmx ANSI C\Analog In\Measure Voltage directory.
    However, now I want to know is there a way that using that same C code, can we save the data in a .txt file format (Text File) instead of a TDMS file? We actually want to access that file through MATLAB (that's why we want to save it in text format).
    Also on an other note, is there a way we can access & open TDMS files by MATLAB?
    Thanks,
    Sauvik Das Gupta

    There's a way you can access TDMS files in MATLAB:

  • How to retrieve data from a web service

    Hi
    i am at very beginner level about web services.
    I am searching for a simple example of retrieving data from a web services, but cant find.
    How can i get xml data from a web service. i dont need to develop the web service it is already ready, i just need how could i fetch data from it.
    Can somebody point out or give an example?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    just create a skeleton for the Web Service. In JDeveloper, create a new project and then use the "NEW" context menu option.
    Navigate to "Business Tier" --> Web Services and select "Web Service Proxy"
    In teh following, provide the WSDL reference to create the Java proxy. This gives you accss to the WS without having to parse the XML yourself

  • Reference for working with a data collection retreived from a Web Service

    Does anyone have a good resource / example of working with multi row data collections returned from a web service call?
    In addition to the basic return of x data rows, I will also be getting parent child collections. For example,
    for each Customer row, 0 or more Customer Invoices
    I have found many guides the relate to single values being retrieved by the web service, but I have not found any that refer to data collections.
    Best regards,
    Thomas

    That can all certainly be done with a 13" MBP.
    You'd want to get a USB hub, preferably USB 3.0 to plug in your optical drive, keyboard and mouse.
    For your external monitor you can use a Mini DisplayPort adapter to DVI or HDMI (or if it's a retina MBP use the HDMI out).
    For your ethernet, it will plug right into the non-retina. If you get the retina, you'd need a Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter (faster) or a USB to ethernet adapter (slower).

  • Get xml data from a web service into Forms?

    Hello folks! I am reading active directory info from a web service into forms via imported java classes. I can read from functions that return strings just fine, but I have to get the output from getGroupUsers which returns an XmlDataDocument. How do I read this in and parse it in Forms?
    I will be grateful if y'all could point me to an example.
    Thank you,

    P.S. Here is a snippet of how I get the full name by passing an ID:
    DECLARE
    jo ora_java.jobject;
    rv varchar2(100);
    BEGIN
    jo := ADSoapClient.new;
    rv := ADSoapClient.getUserName(jo, 'user_ID');
    :block3.fullname := rv;

    Hello,
    Since you are already dealing with server-side JAVA, I would suggest you create a method that would do the parsing server-side and what your PL/SQL will be dealing with is just the return string.
    Here is a method I use to read an XML file (actually, it is an Oracle Reports file converted to XML) and from the string version, I will do search, replace and other things.
    So, from getGroupUsers which returns an XmlDataDocument, you can adapt this method to get your data server-side and let the form module read the output data.

  • Converting string data from a web service respons into XML structure of XI

    Hi,
    We receive a string structure from a web service.
    The string structure has an xml type format, that is all the tags and its content are in one line .
    The WSDL file of the webservice defines its response structure as a string type.
    How do i convert this string into proper XML structure (predefined by me in Integration repository).
    OR how do i make XI understand this string as an XML structure for further processing.
    Later i have to map this XML message type into IDoc.

  • Calculations in Xcelsius using data generated by a Web Service Connection

    Hi,
    I have set up a web service connection to pull in 4 columns of data: 1. CATEGORY  2. SUBCATEGORY 3. PRODUCT TYPE   4.#OFCALLS.  There will be anywhere from 1 to 500 rows of data depending on day of week and time of day.  The web service sorts the list by #OFCALLS descending. The OUTPUT VALUES of the web service connection are mapped to cells A19:D518.
    Formulas in the spreadsheet take the Top 10 from the list and populate it to cells  A4:D13.  A formula in cell D15 sums the #OFCALLS for the entire web service connection output (A19:D518).
    The data in A4:D15 is mapped to a spreadsheet table on my canvas.   When the report generates, the data from the TOP 10 of the web service connection populates properly, but the cell that should reflect the TOTAL#OFCALLS (D15) shows zero.
    Is it not possible to do additional calculations in the spreadsheet based on data generated by the web service connection?  A major difference between using an XML Map and a Web Service Connection is the XML Map actually populates the spreadsheet with the new data when it is refreshed.  The Web Service connection data never actually appears in the spreadsheet itself, even though it updates to the appropriate vessel on the canvas.   This makes me think that no additional calculations can be done in the spreadsheet based on the web service connection data.
    Can anyone tell me if that is correct?  If so, then the web service connection would also have to pull in the TOTAL#OFCALLS along with the other data.   This would also seem to greatly limit what you could do with data generated by a web service connection, so I am hoping I am wrong and just don't understand how to do this.
    Can anyone clarify this for me?  If I failed to give any pertinent info let me know what it is, and I will update my post.
    Thanks!

    I have seen similar behavior as well.  I have live data coming into Xcelsius from a data connection.
    A supported Excel formula
    =IF(ISBLANK(J2),I2,VALUE(TODAY()-J2))
    is then applied to one of the columns to create an additional derived column.
    Taking a snapshot of the data shows that the derived column is being populated, however the controls I've tried hooking up to the derived column (charts and labels) are always empty.
    Information on whether this is supported would be appreciated.
    Thank you,
    David

  • Crystal Reports 2008 fails when called from e Web Service under 64bit OS

    I have discovered that Crystal Reports 2008 doesn't work when called from a Web Service running under 64bit Windows platforms (in my case Windows 2003 Server and Windows XP 64bit); practically no object is instantiated. I've tried several solutions without success.
    Before creating a wrapper component to use under COM+, is there anybody who has a better and cheaper solution than creating another component to wrap CR 2008 ?

    Hi Sergio,
    Before I mark this post as assumed answered I would just like to say and re-iterate that at this time there is no one answer and we fully understand your concerns. As you know in CR 6.0 it came in 16 and 32 bit versions because at the time 32 bit was relatively new but 16 bit was the norm. This is also true for 32 to 64 bit, 32 is the norm and 64 bit is relatively new. We know and are well aware 64 bit is the future and we are working as quickly as we can to move in that direction. Because of the complexity of the Product it's not simply a matter of re-compiling all of our dll's in 64 bit format. The core of our data connectivity with our database drivers which are dependant on third party clients must also need to support 64 bit modes. This as well as Printer drivers also need to be 64 compatable, there are a multitude of dependencies that we rely on that must add 64 bit support. As a programmer you are well aware of the issues around Thunking back and forth between 32 to 64 bits, it can cause delays and potentially loss of data which is a whole other issue. Not to mention also that we would have to ship both versions potentially doubling the size of the distribution packages or doubling the size of the dll's to have the ability to work in both modes. Relatively speaking of course, it would not be double the size but the variables would need to be able to allocate 32 or 64 memory blocks.
    The other option is to produce 2 separate versions, this alone is a massive project. Any issue would need to be fixed in separate code streams.
    So I'm sure you can see it's not simply a matter of saying yes we support 64 bit. It's a massive project that is going to take time to do and we have to wait for the third party drivers to commit also.
    Visual Studio .NET 2005 and 2008 is the only option if you want true 64 bit but you will be limited on what DB's you can support and export formats you can export to. They are the only drivers we did convert to 64 bit.
    Thank you for your understanding
    Don
