  • Bandwidth Utilization Avg or Max for capacity Planning best practice

Hello All - This is a conceptual or Non-Cisco product question. Hope you can help me to get this best industry practice
I am doing a Capacity planning for the WAN Link Bandwidth. To study the last month bandwidth utilization in the MRTG graph, i am seeing  two values
    Average
    Maximum.
To measure how much bandwidth my remote location is using which value i have to use. Average or Max?
Average is always low eg. 20% to 30%
Maximum is continuous 100% for 3 hour in 3 different intervals in a day and become 60% in rest of the day
What is the best practice followed in the networking industry to derive the upgrade size of the bandwidth by using the Utilization graph
    regards,
    SAIRAM

    Hello.
It makes no sense to use average during whole day (or a month), as you do the capacity management to avoid business impact due to link utilization; and average does not help you to catch is the end-users experience any performance issues.
Typically your capacity management algorithm/thresholds are dependent on traffic patterns. As theses are really different cases if you run SAP+VoIP vs. youtube+Outlook. If you have any business critical traffic, you need to deploy QoS (unless you are allowed to increase link bandwidth infinitely).
So, I would recommend to use 95-percentile of maximum values on 5-15 minutes interval (your algorithm/thresholds will be really sensitive to pooling interval, so choose it carefully). After to collect baseline (for a month or so)  - go and ask users about their experience and try to correlate poor experience with traffic bursts. This would help you to define thresholds for link upgrade triggers.
PS: proactive capacity management includes link planning for new sites and their impact on existing links (in HQ and other spoke).
PS2: also I would recommend to separately track utilization during business hours (business traffic) and non-business (service or backup traffic).

  • Benchmark Your Best Practices through the ASUG/SAP Enablement Survey

One of the most frequent questions asked by companies implementing SAP is u201Chow do other companies get their employees ready to use the system?u201D They want to know how similar companies have addressed the most critical success factors for preparing and sustaining their end users for new technology deployment. SAP is consolidating knowledge of best practices used in the market through the ASUG and SAP Enablement Survey.
ASUG and SAP have teamed together to build a survey that will allow respondents to gain insight into how the market is addressing enablement, and how similar companies rate their achievements. All responses are consolidated to provide insight on enablement practices by industry, company size, region, budget allocation, and more. Individual responses remain confidential.
As a respondent you will receive a report outlining the most critical enablement practices implemented by comparable companies. The report provides specific insight about your enablement practice in relation to similar companies. Please take the time to complete this short survey (10-15 minutes) today. Your voice matters and we really appreciate you taking the time and completing the survey.

    Hi ,
    Please find my answers below:
    1. The roles will be created in BW and should automatically appear in BO CMC Authentication SAP roles, if there is a connectivity setup between BO and BW irrespective of the SSO.The roles are transported by the BW security team.
    2. Every environement will have a unique connection to the corresponding SAP BW environment. For example SAP BW DEV will be mapped to BO DEV, SAP BW PROD will be mapped to BO PROD.So these settings cannot be migrated through Promotion Management.
3.This authentication can be applied to all tools , the SSO does not depend on the tool ,it depends on the integration between two systems which in this case are BO and SAP BW
As mentioned earlier, after integration all tools can have SSO
You can refer to a lot of help documents on this site which will help you to setup the integration between SAP BW AND SAP BO.
    Kind Regards,
    Priyanka

  • Best practice for securing confidential legal documents in DMS?

We have a requirement to store confidential legal documents in DMS and are looking at options to secure access to those documents.  We are curious to know.  What is the best practice?  And how are other companies doing it?
    TIA,
    Margie
    Perrigo Co.

    Hi,
The standard practice for such scenarios is to use 'authorization' concept. You can give every user to use authorization to create, change or display these confidential documents. In this way, you can control access authorization.SAP DMS system monitors how you work, and prevents you from displaying or changing originals if you do not have the required authorization.
The below link will provide you with an improved understanding of authorization concept and its application in DMS

  • What is the Best practice for ceramic industry?

    Dear All;
i would like to ask two questions:
1- which manufacturing category (process or discrete) fit ceramic industry?
2- what is the Best practice for ceramic industry?
please note from the below link
    [https://websmp103.sap-ag.de/~form/sapnet?_FRAME=CONTAINER&_OBJECT=011000358700000409682008E ]
i recognized that ceramic industry is under category called building material which in turn under mill product and mining
but there is no best practices for building material or even mill product and only fabricated meta and mining best practices is available.
    thanks in advance

    Hi,
I understand that you refer to production of ceramic tiles. The solution for PP was process, with these setps: raw materials preparation (glazes and frits), dry pressing (I don't know extrusion process), glazing, firing (single fire), sorting and packing. In Spain, usually are All-in-one solutions (R/3 o ECC solutions). Perhaps the production of decors have fast firing and additional processes.
In my opinion, the curiosity is in batch determination in SD, that you must determine in sales order because builders want that the order will be homogeneus in tone and caliber, and he/she can split the order in diferents deliveries. You must think that batch is tone (diferents colours in firing and so on) and in caliber.
    I hope this helps you
    Regards,
    Eduardo

To determine the quantity actually filled, the tank trailer is weighed before and after loading. The delta weight u2013 or quantity filled u2013 is transmitted to the SAP software via an order confirmation. When the delivery for the sales order is created, the software automatically adjusts the order quantity with the confirmed filling quantity. The customer is invoiced for the precise quantity filled and delivered.
    Supply Chain Planning and Execution
SAP Best Practices for Chemicals supports supply chain planning as well as supply chain execution processes:
Supply and demand planning u2013 Via the SAP Best Practices for Chemicals package, SAP enables complete support for commercial and supply-chain processes in the chemical industry, including support for integrated sales and operations planning, planning strategies for bulk material, and a variety of filling processes with corresponding packaging units. • CE Benchmark/Performance Best Practice Tips

We are in the early stages of starting a CE project where we expect a high volume of web service calls per day (e.g. customer master service, material master service, pricing service, order creation service etc).
Are there any best-practice guidelines which could be taken into account to avoid any possible performance problems within the web service u201Cinfrastructureu201D?
Should master data normally residing in the backend ECC server be duplicated outside ECC?
e.g. if individual reads of the master data in the backend system take 2 seconds per call, would it be more efficient to duplicate     the master data on the SAP AS Java server, or elsewhere u2013 if the master data is expected to be read thousands of times each    day.
Also, what kind of benchmarking tools (SAP std or 3rd party) are available to assess the performance of the different layers of the infrastructure during integration + volume testing phases?
I've tried looking for any such documentation on SDN, OSS, help.sap.com, but to no avail.
Many thanks in advance for any help.
    Ali Crawshaw

    Hi Ali,
For performance and benchmarking have you had a look at Wiley Introscope?
The following presentation has some interesting information [Wiley Introscope supports CE 7.1|http://www.google.co.za/url?sa=t&source=web&ct=res&cd=7&ved=0CCEQFjAG&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thenewreality.be%2Fpresentations%2Fpdf%2FDay2Track6%2F265CTAC.pdf&ei=BUGES-yyBNWJ4QaN7KzXAQ&usg=AFQjCNE9qA310z2KKSMk4d42oyjuXJ_TfA&sig2=VD1iQvCUmWZMB5OB-Z4gEQ]
With regards to best practice guidelines, if you are using PI for service routing try to keep to asynch services as far as possible, asynch with acknowledgments if need be. Make sure your CE Java AS is well tuned according to the SAP best practice.
Will you be using SAP Global Data Types for your service development? If you are then the one performance tip i have regarding the use of GDT's is to keep your GDT structures as small (number of fields) as possible, as large GDT structures have an impact on memory consumption at runtime.
    Cheers

  • Auto-Anchor Controller's Best Practice

    Hi All,
I got confused with this setup. I have 2 Wlc's.One is the internal controller and another one configured for the anchor controller (different subnet-DMZ zone) for guest traffic. Where do i configure DHCP assignment for this users..? Should Production controller intervine in this dhcp process or shall i direct to Anchor to take care of everything..? which is recommended ?
And also any best practice doc is available for this ..?
    Please help...
    thanks in advance.

    Prasan,
Just keep in mind that there are best practices that are published and best practices that you learn from experience. Being a consultant, I get to implement wireless in various networks and everyone's network is quite different. Also code versions can change a best practice because of bug issues or how a standard might of changed and how that standard was implemented in code. The biggest best practice secret is really working with various client devices, scanner's, laptops, smartphones, etc., and seeing how those change because of newer models and it firmware updates. It's amazing to understand how some devices will require a few checkboxes in the WLAN to be disabled compared to others. Even with anchoring for guest and using a custom WebAuth to make sure the splash page works with various types of browsers.
What I can say is to always try the defaults if possible when you have issues and then enable things one by one.
