Best Practice to configure tnsnames.ora on client of MAA environment in 10g

Hi,
I have a MAA environment, 1 RAC Primary of 2 nodes and 1 RAC standby of 2 nodes too. I want to configure the tnsnames.ora on clients (we have many clients on each PC) and I need to configure the tnsnames.
I have read some papers but the information is not clear regarding to configure the tnsnames on clients. I just want to have only one entrie on tnsnames that I can use on clients to connect to RAC Primary and/or Standby depending on what site is primary in that moment, I was thinking in something like this:
SALES.WORLD =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = site1a)(PORT = 1521))
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = site1b)(PORT = 1521))
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = site2a)(PORT = 1521))
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = site2b)(PORT = 1521))
(LOAD_BALANCE = yes)
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = sales.world)
(FAILOVER_MODE =
(TYPE = SELECT)
(METHOD = BASIC)
(RETRIES = 180)
(DELAY = 5)
Where site1 is RAC Primary now, and site2 is standby. But in case of switchover, I want that clients recognize automatically to which site connect.
I was thinking to stop listeners on site that is not primary on that moment.
The question is if this is the best practice on this scenario?.
Thanks for your advice.
Luis

Hi Louis,
you need to setup a service with clusterware. On both sides: primary and standby.
On primary you start them. On standby the services are also configured but stopped.
In case of switchover or failover, data guard will notice clusterware to bring them up.
You need to use this service name in your clients tnsnames.
Another issue are TCP timeouts, to protect against them you use
outbount_connect_timeout in your sqlnet.ora

  • Best practice to run Microsoft Endpoint Protection client in VDI environment

We are using Citrix XenDesktop VDI environment. Symantec Endpoint Protection client (VDI performance optimised) has been installed on the “streamed to the clients” virtual machine image. Basically, all the files (in golden image) have been “tattooed” with
Symantec signature. Now, when the new VM starts, Symantec scan engine simply ignores “tattooed” files and also randomise scan times. This is a rough explanations but I hope you’ve got the idea.
We are switching from Symantec to Microsoft Endpoint Protection and I’m looking for any information and documentation in regards best practice for running Microsoft Endpoint Protection clients in VDI environment.
     Thanks in advance.

I see this post is a bt old but the organization I'm with has a very large VDI deployment using VMware. We also are using SCEP 2012 for the AV.
Did you find out what you were looking for or did you elect to take a different direction?
We install SCEP 2012 into the base image and manage the settings using GPO and the updates for defs are through the normal route.
Our biggest challenge is getting alert message from the client.
    Thanks

  • Best practice for configuring virtual drive on UCS

    Hi,
I have two C210 M2 Server with LSI 6G MegaRAID 9261-8i Card with 10 hard drives of each 135GB. When I tried the automatic selection for the RAID configuration, the system has created one virtual drive with RAID 6. My concern is what the best practice to configure virtual drive? Is it RAID 1 and RAID5 or all in one drive with RAID6? Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks.

Since you are planning to have UC apps on the server, Voice applications have specified their recommendations here.
    http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Tested_Reference_Configurations_%28TRC%29
I believe your C210 server specs could be matching TRC #1,  where you need to have
RAID 1  - First two HDDs for VMware
RAID 5  - Remaining 8 HDDs as datastore for virtual machines ( CUCM and CUC )

  • Best practice to configure a web server which hosting more than 1000+ Websites.

We are deploying a new server for our shared clients. We have a new branded server with good config. Server is hosting IIS,MySQL,Mailserver is this ok. Or should i keep mailserver on different server. Also should i change the installation path of iis and
other application or installing apps on C drive & keeping all websites and databases on D drive is good for server.
    Akshay Pate

"Server is hosting IIS,MySQL,Mailserver is this ok."
Impossible to tell.  You have not given us any indication of the configuration of the server nor the expected workload.  Yes, you say 1000+ web sites, but if each web site is looked at once a day, that's a lot different than if each web site
is access 10,000 times a day.  So we can't tell if it makes sense to install different roles on different physical servers, though that is often considered a best practice.  Similarly, it is generally a good idea to install applications/data to drives
other than the C: drive, but without a lot more information (too much for a technical forum), it is pretty difficult to say anything specific.
If you do not feel comfortable making the decisions yourself, you would be better served by hiring a consultant to evaluate your proposed configuration and perform some benchmarking based on you expected workloads and traffic patterns.

    Hi,
This is my first independent project of HCM implementation. I have just started the system configuration. Done with setting up the PA, PSA, EG and ESG. Assigned to CC.  At this stage, I have a very basic question which is, what is the best practice for the next steps of configuration. What do I go to next, step up the OM in the SAP EasyAccess Menu? How should I go from here?

  • Configuring tnsnames.ora / listener.ora with HOST = localhost

    Dear Oracle experts,
presently I'm trying to configure an Oracle installation on a Win2k server
to work with HOST = localhost entries in my tnsnames.ora and listener.ora.
I have to do that because I want to use that Oracle installation as an image
for several computers which will get different IPs and computer names.
My problem is, taht I only can configure my entries with a real IP adres (127.0.0.1 does not work ) or with the present name of the system but not with localhost or 127.0.0.1.
My listener.ora looks like below :
    # listener.ora Network Configuration File: D:\oracle\product\10.1.0\Db_1\NETWORK\ADMIN\listener.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.

    LISTENER =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost )(PORT = 1521))
The listener above lead to a
    ERROR - ORA-12541: TNS:no listener
if I try to connect via iSQLPlus. If I exchange HOST = localhost with HOST = mydnsname the I can connect to the computer via isqlplus.
Is there any possibility to configure the listener and tnsnames without using real IP adresses ?

  • Best Practice while configuring Traffic Manager for Azure Website

    Hi Team,
I want to understand What is the best practice while we configure traffic manager for Azure website.
To give you the base, Here let me explain my requirement. I have one website which 40% target audiences would be East US, while  40% would be UK and rest 20% would be from Asia-pacific.
Now, What I want is Failover + Performance based Traffic Manager Configuration.
    My thinking:
    1) we need to create 1 website with 2 instances in each region (east us, east asia, west us for an example). so, total 3 deployment of website. (give region based url for the website)
    2) create traffic manager based on performance and add 3 of those instances. that would become website-tmonperformance
    3) create traffic manager based on failover and add 3 of those instances. that would become website-tmonfailover
    4) create traffic manager and ?? don't know the criteria but add both above traffic manager here and take your final url for end user.
I am not sure (1) this may be the right approach or not (2) if this is right, in the 4th step which criteria we should select while creating final traffic manager round-robin/ performance/ failover?
after all these if use try to access site from US.. traffic manager will divert that to US Data-Centre or it will wait for failover and till that it will be served from east-asia if in configuration, east-asia is my 1st instance?
    Regards, Brijesh Shah

    Hi Jonathan,
Thanks for your quick reply. actually question is bit different. Let me explain you different way.
I was asking for recommendation from Azure Traffic Manager team. whether my understanding is correct or not.We want Performance with Failover.
So, One azure website we have: take an example todoapp. I deployed that in 3 different region. now, I want to have performance based routing as well as failover based routing. but obviously I can't give two URL to my end user. so, at the top of that I will
require one more traffic manager. So,
step 1: I will create one traffic manager with performance criteria named: TMForPerformance.trafficmanager.com where I will add all those 3 instances (all are from different region so, it want create any issue.)
step 2: I will create one more traffic manager with failover criteria named: TMForFailover.trafficmanager.com where I will add all those 3 instances (all are from different region so, it want create any issue.)
step 3: I will create one final traffic manager with performance criteria named: todoapp.trafficmanager.com where I will add these two traffic manager instead of 3 different region's website.
Question 1) Is it correct structure if we want to achieve Performance with Failover or Is there any better solution?
Question 2) in step 3, what criteria we should select? performance/ round robin/ failover

  • Best practice RAID configuration for UCS C260 M2 for Unified Communications?

I have two UCS C260 M2 servers with 16 drives (PID: C260-BASE-2646) and I am trying to figure out what the best practice is for setting up the RAID.
I will be running CUCM, CUP, CUC, Prime, etc. for about 2000 phone environment.
If anyone can offer real world suggestions that would be great. I also have a redundnat server.

The RAID setup depends a bit on your specific configuration; however, there is a guide for Cisco Collaboration on Virtual Servers that you can review here:
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/virtual/CUCM_BK_CF3D71B4_00_cucm_virtual_servers/CUCM_BK_CF3D71B4_00_cucm_virtual_servers_chapter_010.html#CUCM_TK_C3AD2645_00
If your server is spec'd as a Tested Reference Configuration (TRC) then the C260M2 TRC1 would have 16 HDD that you would configure/split into 2 x 8HDD RAID 5 arrays.

  • Best practices for configure Rogue Detector AP and trunk port?

    I'm using a 2504 controller.  I dont have WCS.
My questions are about the best way to configure a Rogue Detector AP.
In my lab environment I setup the WLC with 2 APs.  One AP was in local mode, and I put the other in Rogue Detector mode.
The Rogue Detector AP was connected to a trunk port on my switch.  But the AP needed to get its IP address from the DHCP server running on the WLC.  So I set the native vlan of the trunk port to be the vlan on which the WLC management interface resides.  If the trunk port was not configured with a native vlan, the AP couldn't get an address through DHCP, nor could the AP communicate with the WLC.  This makes sense because untagged traffic on the trunk port will be delivered to the native vlan.  So I take it that the AP doesn't know how to tag frames.
Everything looked like it was working ok.
So I connected an autonomous AP (to be used as the rogue), and associated a wireless client to it.  Sure enough it showed up on the WLC as a rogue AP, but it didn't say that it was connected on the wire.  From the rogue client I was able to successfully ping the management interface of the WLC.
But the WLC never actually reported the rogue AP as being connected to the wired network.
    So my questions are:
    1. What is the correct configuration for the trunk port?  Should it not be configured with a native vlan?  If not, then I'm assuming the rogue detector AP will have to have a static IP address defined, and it would have to be told which vlan it's supposed to use to communicate with the WLC.
    2.  Assuming there is a rogue client associated with the rogue AP, how long should it reasonably take before it is determined that the rogue AP is connected to the wired network?  I know this depends on if the rogue client is actually generating traffic, but in my lab environment I had the rogue client pinging the management interface of the WLC and still wasn't being picked up as an on-the-wire rogue.
    Thanks for any input!!

#what's the autonomous AP's(as Rogue AP) Wired and Wireless MAC address?
it has to be +1 or -1 difference. If Wired MAC is x.x.x.x.x.05 and the wireless mac should be x.x.x.x.x.04 or 06. It is not going to detect if the difference is more than + 1 or - 1.
#Does the switch sees the Rogue AP's wired MAC on its MAC table.
Rogue Detector listens to ARPs to get all the Wired MAC info and forwards to WLC, It compares with Wireless MAC, if there is a +1 or -1 difference then it will be flagged as Rogue on wire. And the client that connected to it is also marked as found on wire.
Regards to Trunking, Only Native vlan matters per trunk link, just configure the right vlan as native and we're done.
It is not mandatory to keep the Rogue detector on Management vlan of wlc. It can also be on L3 vlan also as long as it can join the WLC to forward the learnt wired MACs.
So if we don't have +1, -1 difference on Rogues then you've to use RLDP which will work with your existing setup to find Rogue on wire. there's a performance hit when we use this feature on local mode APs.
Note: For AP join - AP can't understand Trunk, meaning if AP connected to Trunk it'll only talk to its native vlan irrespective of AP mode, however rogue detector listens to the Trunk port to learn MACs via ARPs from different VLANs and forwards to WLC using native vlan.

  • Best Practice Question - Activate Company Code - Open client or transport?

    Hello.
When activating Company Codes in a newly productive system, is it best practice to do it directly in an open client, or to change the setting via transport?

What do you mean by activating company code?
Is it productive check box you are talking about in OBY6.
If so, open client for manual change, make the setting and put it back the client settings.

  • Best practices to configure files to display and play in order?

I'm looking for best practices to get saved recordings (songs and business trainings) on my PC correctly configured so they will show up correctly (artist, song title, track number) and play incorrect order.
I have lots of MP3 files (and other formats) on my PC but when i transfer them to iTunes and sync to iPod they don't play in correct order or show up as unknown artist (and other issues).
I typically have them in a folder by artist name then folder with name of course or album then each song begins with a number.
EXAMPLE: Eagles (folder) - Hotel California (folder) - 1.HotelCalifornia.mp3, 2.NewKidInTown.mp3, etc etc.
I've also right-clicked and went into properties and add the track number,  artist name, album name, contributing artist etc but it still comes up with these issues
--it's also very time-consuming to do this.
EXAMPLE: instead of it being track 1,2,3 etc it will be 1,10,11,2,21,3...
I've tried dragging them or copying them into the "automatically add" folder and also adding to library in iTunes.
    Any help is much appreciated.

    Hi Narendra,
Oracle User and the FTP user are 2 different users.
I'm assuming you'll be reading the file from R12 through File Adapter and writing it to Bank using FTP Adapter.
Oracle User is able to login into R12, do some operations, submit some concurrent programs/requests based on responsibilities and generate the file to be transferred (like in my case it did by running a Concurrent Request). The file so generated should be placed at a location from where File Adapter can read it within the BPEL process. Now to read the file, the user that is used is a SOA server user (again different from R12 user). This is the same user that you use to login into your SOA server physical box. Hence to be able to read the file, your file should have appropriate privileges (we set that as 777) so that it can be read by the SOA process (using SOA user).
FTP user, on the other hand, is the user that allows connection to Bank FTP server. This has absolutely no connection with R12. Bank who hosts the FTP server must give you the FTP user details that you'll use inside your FTP JNDI Configuration on Weblogic. When you deploy and run your process (you don't deploy adapter), it picks up the connection details from FTP JNDI properties that you defined in weblogic.
Hence both the jusers can be different and I don't think any best practices are required or do exist for this.
