Best practice RAID configuration for UCS C260 M2 for Unified Communications?

I have two UCS C260 M2 servers with 16 drives (PID: C260-BASE-2646) and I am trying to figure out what the best practice is for setting up the RAID.
I will be running CUCM, CUP, CUC, Prime, etc. for about 2000 phone environment.
If anyone can offer real world suggestions that would be great. I also have a redundnat server.

The RAID setup depends a bit on your specific configuration; however, there is a guide for Cisco Collaboration on Virtual Servers that you can review here:
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/virtual/CUCM_BK_CF3D71B4_00_cucm_virtual_servers/CUCM_BK_CF3D71B4_00_cucm_virtual_servers_chapter_010.html#CUCM_TK_C3AD2645_00
If your server is spec'd as a Tested Reference Configuration (TRC) then the C260M2 TRC1 would have 16 HDD that you would configure/split into 2 x 8HDD RAID 5 arrays.

  • Best Practice to configure tnsnames.ora on client of MAA environment in 10g

    Hi,
I have a MAA environment, 1 RAC Primary of 2 nodes and 1 RAC standby of 2 nodes too. I want to configure the tnsnames.ora on clients (we have many clients on each PC) and I need to configure the tnsnames.
I have read some papers but the information is not clear regarding to configure the tnsnames on clients. I just want to have only one entrie on tnsnames that I can use on clients to connect to RAC Primary and/or Standby depending on what site is primary in that moment, I was thinking in something like this:
    SALES.WORLD =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = site1a)(PORT = 1521))
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = site1b)(PORT = 1521))
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = site2a)(PORT = 1521))
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = site2b)(PORT = 1521))
    (LOAD_BALANCE = yes)
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = sales.world)
    (FAILOVER_MODE =
    (TYPE = SELECT)
    (METHOD = BASIC)
    (RETRIES = 180)
    (DELAY = 5)
Where site1 is RAC Primary now, and site2 is standby. But in case of switchover, I want that clients recognize automatically to which site connect.
I was thinking to stop listeners on site that is not primary on that moment.
The question is if this is the best practice on this scenario?.
    Thanks for your advice.
    Luis

    Hi Louis,
you need to setup a service with clusterware. On both sides: primary and standby.
On primary you start them. On standby the services are also configured but stopped.
In case of switchover or failover, data guard will notice clusterware to bring them up.
You need to use this service name in your clients tnsnames.
Another issue are TCP timeouts, to protect against them you use
    outbount_connect_timeout in your sqlnet.ora

  • Best Practice while configuring Traffic Manager for Azure Website

    Hi Team,
I want to understand What is the best practice while we configure traffic manager for Azure website.
To give you the base, Here let me explain my requirement. I have one website which 40% target audiences would be East US, while  40% would be UK and rest 20% would be from Asia-pacific.
Now, What I want is Failover + Performance based Traffic Manager Configuration.
    My thinking:
    1) we need to create 1 website with 2 instances in each region (east us, east asia, west us for an example). so, total 3 deployment of website. (give region based url for the website)
    2) create traffic manager based on performance and add 3 of those instances. that would become website-tmonperformance
    3) create traffic manager based on failover and add 3 of those instances. that would become website-tmonfailover
    4) create traffic manager and ?? don't know the criteria but add both above traffic manager here and take your final url for end user.
I am not sure (1) this may be the right approach or not (2) if this is right, in the 4th step which criteria we should select while creating final traffic manager round-robin/ performance/ failover?
after all these if use try to access site from US.. traffic manager will divert that to US Data-Centre or it will wait for failover and till that it will be served from east-asia if in configuration, east-asia is my 1st instance?
    Regards, Brijesh Shah

    Hi Jonathan,
Thanks for your quick reply. actually question is bit different. Let me explain you different way.
I was asking for recommendation from Azure Traffic Manager team. whether my understanding is correct or not.We want Performance with Failover.
So, One azure website we have: take an example todoapp. I deployed that in 3 different region. now, I want to have performance based routing as well as failover based routing. but obviously I can't give two URL to my end user. so, at the top of that I will
require one more traffic manager. So,
step 1: I will create one traffic manager with performance criteria named: TMForPerformance.trafficmanager.com where I will add all those 3 instances (all are from different region so, it want create any issue.)
step 2: I will create one more traffic manager with failover criteria named: TMForFailover.trafficmanager.com where I will add all those 3 instances (all are from different region so, it want create any issue.)
step 3: I will create one final traffic manager with performance criteria named: todoapp.trafficmanager.com where I will add these two traffic manager instead of 3 different region's website.
Question 1) Is it correct structure if we want to achieve Performance with Failover or Is there any better solution?
Question 2) in step 3, what criteria we should select? performance/ round robin/ failover

  • UCS RAID Configuration on UCS C240 M3 TRC2 for UC Applications

    Hi
This UCS server has Twelve 300 GB hard disk. The RAID configuration recommended in Cisco Documentation is to have 2 RAID 5  Volumes 1.36 TB each.
I don't understand this configuration for the following reasons :
I prefer to dedicate a RAID Volume to ESXi and the second RAID Volume for UC Application.
For  UCS C240 M3 TRC3 the First RAID volume should be  a small size (for Example 300 GB with RAID1 ) and the second one about 2 TB with RAID 5
    Why ?
Because in case of problem with ESXi, I can reinstall ESXi, and to recover all My UC applications after ESXi reinstallation.
This kind of configuration was the one use by old C210 M2 (Small RAID 1 volume for ESXi and Larger RAID 5 Volume for UC Applications)
The problem is that with two 1.36 TB Volume , I can install ESXi on the first RAID Volume and UC on second RAID volume. But there is a big waste of Disk Space (about 1 TB )!!!
The problem of changing this RAID recommended Configuration is that TAC consider that we are no longer running on TRC design, so the support is able to be rejected.
Is anybody from Cisco able to explain me the reasons for such RAID Design for UCS C240 M3 TRC2 for UC Applications
    Thanks

You need to go thru your AM, or ask in a partner forum this question, this cannot be addressed at CSC.
And we didn't tell you support would be rejected, we told you that support would fall from a guaranteed performance UC on UCS TRC, to that of a UC on UCS spec based, as changing the RAID would be guidance-only.

  • Best practice to configure a web server which hosting more than 1000+ Websites.

We are deploying a new server for our shared clients. We have a new branded server with good config. Server is hosting IIS,MySQL,Mailserver is this ok. Or should i keep mailserver on different server. Also should i change the installation path of iis and
other application or installing apps on C drive & keeping all websites and databases on D drive is good for server.
    Akshay Pate

"Server is hosting IIS,MySQL,Mailserver is this ok."
Impossible to tell.  You have not given us any indication of the configuration of the server nor the expected workload.  Yes, you say 1000+ web sites, but if each web site is looked at once a day, that's a lot different than if each web site
is access 10,000 times a day.  So we can't tell if it makes sense to install different roles on different physical servers, though that is often considered a best practice.  Similarly, it is generally a good idea to install applications/data to drives
other than the C: drive, but without a lot more information (too much for a technical forum), it is pretty difficult to say anything specific.
If you do not feel comfortable making the decisions yourself, you would be better served by hiring a consultant to evaluate your proposed configuration and perform some benchmarking based on you expected workloads and traffic patterns.

  • Best practices to configure files to display and play in order?

I'm looking for best practices to get saved recordings (songs and business trainings) on my PC correctly configured so they will show up correctly (artist, song title, track number) and play incorrect order.
I have lots of MP3 files (and other formats) on my PC but when i transfer them to iTunes and sync to iPod they don't play in correct order or show up as unknown artist (and other issues).
I typically have them in a folder by artist name then folder with name of course or album then each song begins with a number.
EXAMPLE: Eagles (folder) - Hotel California (folder) - 1.HotelCalifornia.mp3, 2.NewKidInTown.mp3, etc etc.
I've also right-clicked and went into properties and add the track number,  artist name, album name, contributing artist etc but it still comes up with these issues
--it's also very time-consuming to do this.
EXAMPLE: instead of it being track 1,2,3 etc it will be 1,10,11,2,21,3...
I've tried dragging them or copying them into the "automatically add" folder and also adding to library in iTunes.
    Any help is much appreciated.

    Hi Narendra,
Oracle User and the FTP user are 2 different users.
I'm assuming you'll be reading the file from R12 through File Adapter and writing it to Bank using FTP Adapter.
Oracle User is able to login into R12, do some operations, submit some concurrent programs/requests based on responsibilities and generate the file to be transferred (like in my case it did by running a Concurrent Request). The file so generated should be placed at a location from where File Adapter can read it within the BPEL process. Now to read the file, the user that is used is a SOA server user (again different from R12 user). This is the same user that you use to login into your SOA server physical box. Hence to be able to read the file, your file should have appropriate privileges (we set that as 777) so that it can be read by the SOA process (using SOA user).
FTP user, on the other hand, is the user that allows connection to Bank FTP server. This has absolutely no connection with R12. Bank who hosts the FTP server must give you the FTP user details that you'll use inside your FTP JNDI Configuration on Weblogic. When you deploy and run your process (you don't deploy adapter), it picks up the connection details from FTP JNDI properties that you defined in weblogic.
Hence both the jusers can be different and I don't think any best practices are required or do exist for this.

  • IronPort best practices and configuration guide

    Hi there,
I manage a Cisco IronPort ESA appliance for my organisation and made a quick blog post last night about things I thought should be a best practice for a new ESA appliance.
The reason I wrote this is because some of these things are not configured from the start or are configured poorly by default.
Take a look and let me know what you think - I plan to make a part 2 because there are some things I did not have time to go through and it was quite long already!
Remember that your environment will be different from mine so you should understand the things I say before blindly implementing them!
    http://emtunc.org/blog/06/2014/cisco-ironport-e-mail-security-appliance-best-practices-part-1/

First of all, I think your question is related to the WebCenter (Framework) as such, not just OUCSS.
As for JDev. vs. run-time, this question is well discussed in Yannick Ongena's tutorial: http://www.yonaweb.be/webcenter_tutorial/part1_configure_webcenter_portal_application
"Let me first talk a bit about the architecture of WebCenter and the runtime customizations. ADF (and WebCenter) has an additional component since 11g called the MDS (MetaDataServices). The MDS is a repository that stores all the customizations. The page we just created at runtime is not stored in the project folder of JDeveloper but is instead stored in the MDS."
I guess the answer when to use which methods depends on the situation what page you want to create.
I am surprised, however, that you state that
Pages created in JDeveloper are not searchable online. It is possible to link it to a Navigation Model but the path needs to be manually entered.Could you elaborate on your use case?
As for navigation models, you can check another tutorial: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21764_01/webcenter.1111/e10148/jpsdg_navigation.htm#BABJHFCE
Maybe, what your are looking for is the way how to create a navigation model according to your needs?

  • Best Practices to configure the connectivity with Bank and EBS

    Hi All,
We are working on a requirement where Middleware(SOA) has to read the file from Oracle E-biz server and send it to BANK.
For Connectivity setup between Oracle E-biz and Middleware(SOA), Middleware(SOA) and BANK do we need to use oracle as user or we can use any user to communicate between E-biz and Bank?
Could you please share best practices/documents if you have any on how we should establish the connectivity and setup the workflow with Bank and E-Biz. E-Business
    Thanks & Regards

  • Best practice implementation. What are the steps for this?.

We had an upgrade from CRM 4 to 7 undertaken by some outfit (name deleted). After the upgrade was complete it would look as though the comapny carried on using the GUI interface rather than the WebUI interface, mainly because that's how CRM 4 worked. Now they would like to use the WebUI interface of CRM 7, as the GUI interface is no longer supported, but are receiving a number of errors when using certain features of teh WebUI. It would look as though a lot of config is missing, especially in the UI Framework area. I can only assume that whichever company performed the upgarde simply skipped this section when upgrading.
I assume that I could download the best practice install/upgrade (?) and then just execute the section regarding the UI Framework, if such a section exists. bearing in mind that there seems to be a lot of config missing in the UI Framework section, would you recommend the course of action that I have mentioned?.
Our WebUI Interaction centre is giving errors when we go in and I have been informed that I need to complete the config for:
Customer Relationship Management->UI Framework->UI Framework Definition->Maintain Runtime Framework Profile
But as I mentioned, there are lots of other sections in the UI Framework area that are empty and hence the suggestion I made above. Hopwever, I would specifically be interested to hear from anyone who can tell me what the entries are in the view table BSPWDV_RF_PROF_C and possibly the table BSPWDV_CTRL_REPL and BSPWDV_DEF_CC.
I know this only completes part of the config, but it might be enough so that the WebUI IC can be viewed.
On another subject, I have just come into this company and if I wanted to see what had been installed how do I go about that. for example, if I wanted to know if there had been an upgrade from 4 to 7 for a particular Industry solution, where do I check this?.
    Jason

I have been through the following steps:
    Entered this URL http://help.sap.com/bp/initial/index.htm
    Clicked on 'Cross-industry Packages'
    Clicked on 'CRM'
    Clicked on 'Englilsh'
Then the following page is displayed:
    http://help.sap.com/bp_crm70/CRM_DE/HTML/index.htm displayed
But now what?. How do I get the Best practice instructions for a CRM implemenation?.

  • Not a question, but a suggestion on updating software and best practice (Adobe we need to create stickies for the forums)

Lots of you are hitting the brick wall in updating, and end result is non-recoverable project.   In a production environment and with projects due, it's best that you never update while in the middle of projects.  Wait until you have a day or two of down time, then test.
For best practice, get into the habit of saving off your projects to a new name by incremental versions.  i.e. "project_name_v001", v002, etc.
Before you close a project, save it, then save it again to a new version. In this way you'll always have two copies and will not loose the entire project.  Most projects crash upon opening (at least in my experience).
At the end of the day, copy off your current project to an external drive.  I have a 1TB USB3 drive for this purpose, but you can just as easily save off just the PPro, AE and PS files to a stick.  If the video corrupts, you can always re-ingest.
Which leads us to the next tip: never clear off your cards or wipe the tapes until the project is archived.  Always cheaper to buy more memory than recouping lost hours of work, and your sanity.
I've been doing this for over a decade and the number of projects I've lost?  Zero.  Have I crashed?  Oh, yeah.  But I just open the previous version, save a new one and resume the edit.

Ctrl + B to show the Top Menu
    View > Show Sidebar
    View > Show Staus Bar
Deactivate Search Entire Library to speed things up.
This should make managing your iPhone the same as it was before.

  • Best practice - which server OS should I use for Exchange 2010 install

We currently have 2 exchange 2007 boxes running Server 2003. the plan is to upgrade to exchange 2010 (I'd prefer 2013 but the powers that be want 2010), and I have been asked to follow Microsoft best practice. The problem is I can't find anything to point
me in the direction of the recommended server OS, I can find ones it will work on but nothing to say Microsoft recommend this...
We have licenses for Server 2008, 2008 R2 and 2012 available, which one should I advise is the Microsoft recommendation?

    Thanks Andy,
So is there no actual best practice recommendation for a server OS to run Exchange 2010 on? I agree that 2012 would be the one to go for, but the people making the decision on how we do this want reasons, and as they don't really have a lot of technical
understanding I need to be able to go to them with "Use Server 20xx because it's Microsoft best practice".
If there isn't a best practice recommendation I will try the longer support life and more options for high availability with 2012.
Well, you probably wont find a "best practice" as much as a "its supported" stance from Micorosoft.
As in all these things, there may be other reasons a business chooses to use 2008 over 2012 etc...

  • Best practice to configure HTTPService url

I try to find the best way to set up the url attribute of a
large number of httpService in an application that use different
    servlet as data provider.
My idea is to read an external XML file and use the text of
nodes to find the settings for the url attribute.
    For example:
External file config.xml contains a node like this
    <service1>
    http://achille:8080/dbfw/DBSERVICE</service1>
In my <mx:Application> on creationComplete I read the
config.xml file and put the content in a Bindable variable that I
will refer in every component of my application by the syntax
XML(parentApplication.config).service1 and use the text value of
the node to set the url attribut of an httpService.
This is very important because when I install the application
at a customer the service1 url change and I have to set up the
application data provider through the external XML file.
Is there an esier way to do obtain a behavior like that ?
    Thank you at all

  • Best practice in configure listeners

Our db version 10.2.0.3 and our db server is MS window 2003 server.
We have a server which is hosting multiple single instance databases. My question is: should I configure one listener for each database or one listener covers for all databases? If one listener for each database is better choice I should use different port for each listener, right? Such as 1521, 1522 etc?

So multiple listeners do provide better performance. So the best proactice is using multiple listeners instead single one, right?
    Thanks,
ShirleyNot usually. Most people, most of the time, one listener is quite sufficient. Multiple listeners CAN provide performance gain IF the listener is the bottleneck, but that is seldom the case. I would not go to multiple listeners until I had (1) demonstrated an actual performance problem at the listener, and (2) determined that the only way to solve it was to use multiple listeners. I certainly wouldn't do it out of some sense of being proactive or preventative. It's not something that needs to be designed in at the front end.

  • Best way to configure iTunes on network server for multiple macs

    Hi all
Currently have a Mac Mini (late 2006 Tiger) running iTunes library on my QNAPTS239pro Network attached storage. It works great.
On Monday I am getting a new iMac and MacBook Pro (i.e. with Snow Leopard).
What is the best way for iTunes to be configured from each Mac to use the same library on the NAS?
Ideally, I want to add music from any of the macs (usually from CD not the store) and have a single library updated on the NAS. I don't want multiple sync'd copies - that's a back up night mare.
    Any thought appreciated.
