Best replication method to move data to DW

DB version: 10.2.0.4
We have OLTP and DW running on different Oracle databases of same version.
I want to move the few tables (one-fourth of the tables in a schema) to DW periodically / realtime. I have a plan to implement the Oracle Streams. But, the realtime replication is not mandatory and the replication can be done daily. Does streams replicate the data periodically?. What is the best way of implementing?. The tables are huge and contain millions of records. So, I would like to propagate only the last days changes when replicating periodically.
FYI - Many of the tables won't have date column and can't alter tables for replication.
I also want to know about performance hit with implementing the streams replication.

  • Best method to move data from ArcSDE to Oracle Spatial/Mapviewer environment?

If ArcGIS Geodatabase is the standard data store for GIS data, but business IT wants to make use of an Oracle Spatial/Mapviewer environment, what is the best practices recommended approach for interfacing between the two data stores.  (perhaps this is an Oracle Spatial question, but tools exist here as well.)

Yes, This question is more suited for the Oracle Spatial Forum.
And about the question, you must use Esri's owns products like ArcCatalog or Arcmap to connect to oracle and change the format of your geometries. Arcgis is capable of storing geometrical data in oracle in SDO_Geometry format.
If you have question about the procedure of this action, don't hesitate to ask.

  • Best current method to move from 2004 G5 iMac to new 27" 2012 iMac

I have read many threads but still would like updated clarifications, please.
Is setup assistant the best way to upgrade from G5 iMac running Leopard to new 2012 iMac running ML? I only wish to move my single user account and not apps (except where I have noted)
I still wish to keep G5 iMac in use. If I copy user account will there be any conflict with same account on both iMacs? And are there still known issues copying this user acc from G5 to 2012 iMac?
This is list of items I wish to copy to new imac.
    1-iTunes
    2-iPhoto
3-quicken 2007 (data files - hope to install new quicken 2007 for ML-not sure of correct process, though. I'm guessing install Q2007 for ML then copy data files from old imac?)
4-apple mail (several gmail imap accs with saved emails and folder structure)
    5-documents
    6-downloads
    7-pictures
    8-movies
9-crashplan backup app (need to research this process to switch backup to use new Mac)
    10-carbon copy cloner app
    11-safari / firefox bookmarks
12-network settings for Internet access via AT&T Ethernet using their 2wire router
There may be items I'm missing (not in front of iMac right now)...but will be in a few minutes
    thanks for any advice.

A Basic Guide for Data Migration
If you are migrating a PowerPC (PowerMac) system (G3, G4, or G5) to an Intel-Mac be careful what you migrate. Keep in mind that some items that may get transferred will not work on Intel machines and may end up causing your computer's operating system to malfunction.
Note: if you are upgrading to a Mac with Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) or later, or with the intent of upgrading to 10.7 or later anytime in the future, be aware that any applications that are not labelled Universal, or haven't been upgraded to Intel CPU compatibility will not run on Lion or later.  Documents may migrate if an Intel native application exists that will open them, but applications that are PowerPC only will not.  This user tip explains what else is needed for upgrading to Lion: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2465.
This also means for any Mac model whose hardware or firmware that has been refreshed on or after July 20, 2011, you won't be able to install 10.6.8 or get Rosetta from it unless you follow a link at the end of this tip.  It may be better to get a used or refurbished Mac that predates July 20, 2011.  See the Snow Leopard tip on the bottom for which Macs support Rosetta, which in turn supports older PowerPC applications.
Both Leopard (10.5) , and Tiger (10.4.4 through 10.4.11, excluding 10.4.0, 10.4.1, 10.4.2, and 10.4.3) have PowerPC and Intel Mac support, and upgrading to either, this tip here, as well as links to my tip on Tiger and Leopard will help with your upgrade.
The Knowledgebase article Intel-based Mac: Some migrated applications may need to be updated refers to methods of dealing with migrating from PowerPC chips to Intel with the Migration Assistant safely. The authors of this tip have not had a chance to verify this works in all instances, or that it avoids the 10.6.1 and earlier Guest Account bug that caused account information to get deleted upon use of the Migration/Setup Assistant. However, a well backed up source that includes at least two backups of all the data that are not connected to your machine will help you avoid potential issues, should they arise. In event it does not work, follow the steps below.
Rosetta supports "software that runs on the PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor that are built for Mac OS X". This excludes the items that are not universal binaries or simply will not work in Rosetta:
Classic Environment, and subsequently any Mac OS 9 or earlier applications
    Screensavers written for the PowerPC
    System Preference add-ons
    All Unsanity Haxies
    Browser and other plug-ins
    Contextual Menu Items
Applications which specifically require the PowerPC G5
    Kernel extensions
Java applications with JNI (PowerPC) libraries
See also What Can Be Translated by Rosetta.
In addition to the above you could also have problems with migrated cache files and/or cache files containing code that is incompatible.
If you migrate a user folder that contains any of these items, you may find that your Intel-Mac is malfunctioning. It would be wise to take care when migrating your systems from a PowerPC platform to an Intel-Mac platform to assure that you do not migrate these incompatible items.
If you have problems with applications not working, then completely uninstall said application and reinstall it from scratch. Take great care with Java applications and Java-based Peer-to-Peer applications. Many Java apps will not work on Intel-Macs as they are currently compiled. As of this time Limewire, Cabos, and Acquisition are available as universal binaries. Do not install browser plug-ins such as Flash or Shockwave from downloaded installers unless they are universal binaries. The version of OS X installed on your Intel-Mac comes with special compatible versions of Flash and Shockwave plug-ins for use with your browser.
The same problem will exist for any hardware drivers such as mouse software unless the drivers have been compiled as universal binaries. For third-party mice the current choices are USB Overdrive or SteerMouse. Contact the developer or manufacturer of your third-party mouse software to find out when a universal binary version will be available.
Also be careful with some backup utilities and third-party disk repair utilities. Disk Warrior 4.1, TechTool Pro 4.6.1, SuperDuper 2.5, and Drive Genius 2.0.2 work properly on Intel-Macs with Leopard. The same caution may apply to the many "maintenance" utilities that have not yet been converted to universal binaries. Leopard Cache Cleaner, Onyx, TinkerTool System, and Cocktail are now compatible with Leopard.
Before migrating or installing software on your Intel-Mac check MacFixit's Rosetta Compatibility Index.

Transferring data with Setup Assistant - Migration Assistant FAQ
Because Migration Assistant isn't the ideal way to migrate from PowerPC to Intel Macs, using Target Disk Mode, copying the critical contents to CD and DVD, an external hard drive, or networking will work better when moving from PowerPC to Intel Macs. The initial section below discusses Target Disk Mode. It is then followed by a section which discusses networking with Macs that lack Firewire.  You can also determine if you have Firewire by looking at this image of the ports typically found on a PowerMac G4 Firewire 800, which has two 6 pin Firewire 400 (IEEE 1394a) ports below the USB ports, and below that, a Firewire 800 (IEEE 1394b).
The 4 pin Firewire found on many camcorders is just a Firewire 400 port that is not powered by the computer.  Cables exist that can convert between all three.
If both computers support the use of Firewire then you can use the following instructions:
    1. Repair the hard drive and permissions using Disk Utility.
    2. Backup your data. This is vitally important in case you make a mistake or there's some other problem.
    3. Connect a Firewire cable between your old Mac and your new Intel Mac.
    4. Startup your old Mac in Target Disk Mode.
    5. Startup your new Mac for the first time, go through the setup and registration screens, but do NOT
migrate data over. Get to your desktop on the new Mac without migrating any new data over.
If you are not able to use a Firewire connection (for example you have a Late 2008 MacBook that only supports USB:)
    1. Set up a local home network: Creating a small Ethernet Network.
    2. If you have a MacBook Air or Late 2008 MacBook see the following:

Special instructions for those who have purchased Mac models that do not support Rosetta:
The newest (post 2010) Mac models run only Lion or Mountain Lion. They are not able to run Snow Leopard at all. However, you can still run PPC applications using Snow Leopard and Rosetta by intalling Snow Leopard as a virtual machine using Parallels. This is not an exercise for the truly inexperienced user, but it is completely doable provided you are willing to spend some money and some time. For complete instructions on what to do see https://discussions.apple.com/message/18280105#18280105. Although the instructions are keyed to Parallels 7, you should instead use the latest version, Parallels 8. (This information was contributed by user MlchaelLAX.)

  • Best way to move data from page to page inside app

Hi all I started writing this and it got way to complicated to explain in full without a novel.
Breif description. I am using query string that starts in the parent window (from href in json file) it then has to be moved into the iframe url when moving to other pages to avoid security as page and iframe are conflicting http and https. and cannot be accessed.. it seems there must be a better way.
So my question is what is the best way in open platform to move data from one page to another?

    Hi Liam
Small data just a webapp ID and I am using the URL. But if you pass a ID say from Json ie "href":"/Admin/AppLoader.aspx?client_id=dev-name&ID=111111" it gets passed to the page url. This can be referenced using document.referrer initially. As the app is inside another frame and url that is https there is security issue using parent.location between https and http. Fine but then if you move to a new page referrer is no longer as there is no real referrer and you have to use location but you cannot. Now the work around is to pass the value from the page url to the app url at the start. and then you get around http https security issue when using parent.location but this seems convoluted and like a work around. Is this really the only way or the best way or a bad way. without using other ways that seem over kill for 6 odd characters.

  • Best LKM to move data from with in Oracle from one schema to another Schema

    Hi Gurus,
What is the best KM to move data from one schema to another schema within same oracle database.
    Thanks in advance

    Dear,
If your source and target are on the same database server then you dont need LKM.
You have to 1. create one data server for the database server
    2. Create one physical schema for your source and another physical schema for your target under the above created data server.
    3. Then create models for each above created physical schema
In this case you just need IKM knowledge module
    Please refer http://oditrainings.blogspot.in/2012/08/odi-interface-source-target-on-same.html
If your source and target are on different server then you must create two different data servers in topology. You have to use LKM.
The best LKM to use is LKM oracle to Oracle dblink. But you should have proper grants to use it
If your source has very few records you can go with LKM SQL to Oracle other wise use LKM oracle to Oracle dblink

  • Best way to move data and programs to another profile on same Mac?

    Hello,
What is the best way to move data and programs to another profile on the same Mac? I have a user who's profile is corrupt, I know that most programs will work on both the new and old profile however when trying to copy the Desktop folder, or Documents folder I am getting permissions denied.
Sort of like weeding a garden, I'm hoping I do not have to pick the data in each folder and copy individually.
    Thanks for your help!
    Johnathon

This usually means that a configuration or preference file is corrupted.  In this user's /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder locate any preference files associated with iLinc and drag to the Trash.
I would also check in the /Home/Library/Caches/ folder for a file or folder associated with iLinc and delete as well.
See if the problem is resolved in the user's normal account.
It's not that you cannot copy data from account to account, but doing so causes a lot of permissions issues that must be resolved.  The MacFixit article I linked above shows what you need to do after transferring from one account to another in order to change permissions on the "foreign" files to those of the destination account.

    Hello:
You pretty much have it right. Here's what I do to move applications between APEX installations.
    1) Export/Import Workspaces
    2) Export/Import Applications for each workspace. (I retain the source application id in the target)
    3) Export/Import Workspace Images/Files etc
    4) Use Oracle exp/imp , Oracle DataPump or plain old sqlplus scripts to move database objects from source to target.

  • Best practice for database move to new disk

    Good morning,
Hopefully this is a straight forward question/answer, but we know how these things go...
We want to move a SQL Server Database data file (user database, not system) from the D: drive to the E: drive.
Is there a best practice method?
My colleague has offered "ALTER DATABASE XXXX MODIFY FILE" whilst I'm more inclined to use "sp_detach_db".
Is there a best practice method or is it much of a muchness?
    Regards,

    Hello,
A quick search on MSDN blogs does not show any official statement about ALTER DATABASE – MODIFY FILE vs ATTACCH. However, you can see a huge number of article promoting and supporting
the use of ALTER DATABASE on any scenario (replication, mirroring, snapshots, always on, SharePoint, service broker).

  • Query related to replication method supported by ORACLE in 10g...

    Hi All,
I have few question related to ORACLE replication methods. I have two database on different machine and I want to copy at schema level from source to target database.
for this I have few queries related to Replication method as stated below:
1- I have two option one is Materailized view and another is Stream.
2- if I go for Materialized view then what it's advantage in compare to Stream?
3- if I go for Stream replication then what it's benefits?
4- For stream replication I have read that its require to set "global_names=true", with out this can we able to setup stream replication?
    Please suggest me optimal solution.
    Thanks....

    Hello,
4- For stream replication I have read that its require to set "global_names=true", with out this can we able to setup stream replication?Anyway, when you manage Distributed Database, it's always recommended to set global_names=true. By that way you enforce that a dblink has same name as the DB it connects to.
Else about Stream the both (Source and Target) databases should be in Archivelog mode.
More over, Stream Replication allow to replicate DDL change (for instance you add a column on a Table), and have much more features than Materalized Views. If you want to share datas among several databases, Stream is an interesting technology.
Materialized view is more suitable on DSS database.
    Hope this help.

  • Best approach to replicate the data.

    Hello Every one,
I want to know about the best approach to replicate the data.
First i clear the senario , i have one oracle 10g enterprise edition database and 20 oracle 10g standerd edition databases. The enterprise edition will run at center and the other 20 standered edition databases will run at sites.
The data will move from center to sites and vice versa not between sites. There is only one schema to replicate with more than 500 tables.
what will be the best for replication (Updateble MVs or Oracle Streams or any thing else.),its urgentpls.
    Thanx in advance.
    Edited by: user560669 on Dec 13, 2009 11:01 AM

    Hello,
Yes MV or Oracle Stream are the common ways to replicate datas between databases.
I think that in your case (you have to replicate a whole Schema) Oracle Streams is interresting (it's not so easy
    to maintain 500 MV).
But you must care of the type of Edition.
I'm not sure that Standard Edition allows Advanced replication features. It seems to me (but I may be wrong)
that Updatable MV is an EE features.
About the Stream It seems to be available even in SE.
Please, find enclosed some links about it:

    Hope it can help,

  • How do I move data files from old iPhone? Specifically, the password files for the App mSecure from my old iPhone 3Gs to iPhone 4S?

How do I move data files for mSecure (a password saver app) from old iPhone 3GS to new iPhone 4S?

That article is about using your iPod as an external hard drive, to move files from one computer to another computer.  It is not related to your question.
You can't use iTunes to move song files from iPod to computer, except for songs you purchased from the iTunes Store (and you can also re-download purchases).  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can move song files from iPod to computer.  If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the song files are on your current computer, add them to that computer's iTunes library by dragging the files (or folder containing the files) to the iTunes window.  After confirming everything is there (and fixing the data issue you mentioned) you can sync the iPod.  You may want to do a Restore on the iPod, if it might have a data corruption issue, which will erase the iPod's hard drive, re-install the latest software, and set it to defautl settings.

  • Move data from one table to another

    Hi,
I need to move data from work space -1 to work space -2. I need to move only selected data. From work space -1 to work space -2
    Work space -1
    Table -1_
    ID NAME Description
    1 xyz one
    2 abc two
    3 mnk three
    Table -2_
    ID PID NAME Description
    1 1 x1 -
    2 1 x2 -
    3 2 a1 -
    4 2 a2 -

Table -1 is parent table and Table-2 is child. Here PID is parent key of table-1 and ID's in both the table are primary keys.
Now i need to move data from work space-1 to work space -2
    Work Space -2 table structure
    Table - 1

    Table - 2
    ID T_ID NAME DATE DESC
    1 1 T1 - -
    1 1 T2 - -
    2 2 E1 - -
    2 2 E3 - -
I need to migrate data from work space -1 of table 1 and 2 to work space - 2 of table 1 and tabe 2
Please suggest me a query to migrate. Please let me know if the steps mentioned above is not clear.
    Thanks
    Sudhir

    Hi Sudhir,
since data tables are not located in work-areas but in schema's I presume you mean the latter.
A simple conversion statement would be something like :
    insert into table s1.newtable ( column1, column2, ... )
    select column1a, column2a, ...
    from s2.oldtable
    where ...
First the master table, then the child table.
This works using a user-id having al least read-access to schema s2. If no such user exists then use some export method.
    No relation to APEX though.
    Hope this helps.

You can use RowCount transformation in the path where you want to capture record details. Then inside rowcount transformation pass a integer variable to get count value inside
the event handler can be configured as below
Inside Execute SQL task add INSERT statement to add rowcount to your audit table
Can you also show me how to Check against destination table using key columns inside a lookup task and insert only non

This is explained clearly in below link which Arthur posted

For large data I would prefer doing this in T-SQL. So what you could do is dump data to staging table and then apply
T-SQL MERGE between tables (or even a combination of INSERT/UPDATE statements)

  • What is the best way to mimic the data from production to other server?

    Hi,
here we user streams and advanced replication to send the data for 90% of tables from production to another production database server. if one goes down can use another one. is there any other best option rather using the streams and replication? we are having lot of problems with streams these days they keep break and get calls.
I heard about data guard but dont know what is use of it? please advice the best way to replicate the data.
    Thanks a lot.....

RAC, Data Guard. The first one is active-active, that is, you have two or more nodes accessing the same database on shared storage and you get both HA and load balancing. The second is active-passive (unless you're on 11.2 with Active Standby or Snapshot Standby), that is one database is primary and the other is standby, which you normally cannot query or modify, but to which you can quickly switch in case primary fails. There's also Logical Standby - it's based on Streams and generally looks like what you seem to be using now (sort of.) But it definitely has issues. You can also take a look at GoldenGate or SharePlex.
