Best setup to sync properly

I need help in figuring out the best setup before I buy the 3GS (hopefully on the 9th of July...).
What I want is to use my MacBook Pro as the computer that I connect my phone to for syncing. Also, I want the phone to sync with my MobileMe account, and also to subscribe to some other mobileMe calenders.
The problem is that my HD on this computer is not big enough to hold all my music, pictures etc. To resolve this I have a TimeCapsule at home with all my music, pictures etc. Currently I do not have my MacBook Pro's iTunes pointing to the TC music. Currently the TC gives out its location to my MobileMe account's Back-to-my-Mac feature.
Connected to the TC I also have an old MacMini (PowerPC) which has its iTunes pointed to the TC music.
So, what I need help with is how to set this up to ensure that my laptop can use the TC music, pictures and movies when synchronising to my new iPhone without causing problems to the MacMini setup.
Can anyone help?
Cheers,
Marten

Yes, I know it can only sync what it can see. But what will happen if:
1. I sync everything correctly whilst sitting on my home network and iTunes find the library on the TC
2. I sync somewhere where I do not have internet (or the Back-to-my-Mac function is blocked) - what happens? Is music, movies, photos which are stored on the TC removed from the phone? Or does iTunes just complain and move on?
3. I sync somewhere where the Back-to-my-Mac works but the internet connection is slow (ie. actually downloading everything is out of the question). In this scenario I do not add any new music etc. Will this take ages?
Thanks
/Marten

  • "Tabs from other computers" option in history is disabled, even though I had setup sync properly.

I had setup my sync on my ubuntu at home and windows at office and ticked the tab options to be true but when I open my FF at office I open history menu but the "Tabs from other computers" is disabled not allowing me to see tabs from my home pc.
Also in sync settings when I change the name of machine it is not getting saved.

They should show up until they're closed and that device syncs. If this is not happening,

  • Mobile account setup stops syncing and acts like a network user

Mobile account setup stops syncing and acts like a network user system under ODM
Setup: Mobile laptop users authenticating against an ODM. Every user has a networked home directory on an Xserve. The whole setup is 10.4 (client and server). All systems run a standard image. Most effected systems have been re-imaged since the onset of the issue.
Issue: Some of the users are not syncing properly every time. It is as if the system forgets it is a mobile system and reverts to using the User's network home (instead of saving to /Users and syncing). If the user is effected, the system will not even accept cached credentials if they are off network. This forgetfulness does not seem to follow any pattern and does not effect all of our mobile users.
In mucking about trying to find a cause to this issue I ran across an oddity in all effected systems Netinfo database. The users are each listed twice. Each entry has the same username, short name and UID. Also, In each case one record looks wrong... this varies somewhat from user to user, but in each case there is marked difference in the record's contents. Deleting the incomplete record in Netinfo manager seems to solve the issue (seems, as we are very early in testing this).
Anyone have a clues as to where this double came from? The only lead so far is that it looks like the users having issues pre-date the use of mobile accounts. At some time they all had local accounts that authenticated against the ODM but never synced or had networked home directories. The pool of users who just got laptops (and thus never had a local account) seem unaffected so far.
Also, what is the best way to browse the ODM master to find these duplicates?

I have a similar issue with computers bound to Active Directory. Users occasionally have a problem logging into their computers even though their account is fine. Logging in as Admin and running netinfo manager always shows duplicate user accounts. Deleting the one that says disabled always clears up the issue. I'd like to find a startup script that would delete the disabled account, thus preventing the issue.

  • Best Strategy to sync calendar between 2 computers

I use iCal with several calendars on my MacBook & iPhone. I want to setup something to enable my wife to see my calendar on her MBP, as I update my schedule. Is there a good way to do this? I have used Mobile-Me, and loved it, but that was the only featured I used it for, so the fee is impractical for just calendar syncing.
Is there a way to do it through google calendar? I read lots of posts on her about that approach, but I could not find basic/foundational posts on the best option for me.
    Is there something better/easier?
I would love any thoughts or advice anyone has. Let me know if you need me to expound more on my situation.

Thanks to someone either in this forum or on Google's forum, I found an answer. It may help you. My Google synced properly with iCal after I set up the account properly. However, when entering data in iCal to sync automatically with GCal:
Go to View, Show Calender List. That's the gray column on the left. It should list your Google calendar by whatever name you gave it when setting up the account in iCal.
UNcheck all the iCal boxes (Home, Unfiled, Personal, etc). Be sure to check or highlight the Google calendar. Then enter data in iCal. When you are Done, you should see the rotating signal that it's immediately syncing with GCal.
At least, that's the way it works for me!

  • My iPad is recognised by my computer but won't sync properly. Some syncing seems to be going on in the info bar at the top of my computer, but nothing happens on the iPad....I.e. no message that says syncing is taking place. It is an iPad 1

My iPad doesn't seem to sync properly with my computer (vista home). Although some sort of back-up syncing seems to be happening in the bar at the top of iTunes, no syncing message appears on my iPad. I am trying to sync some music on my computer to my iPad.   The computer recognises my iPad and appears to be doing something but the usual message on the iPad saying that syncing is taking place doesn't appear.

Hello Demo, thanks for your response.  I am signed in with the same ID and there are no restrictions on whats synced.
The difference now when I connect is that (a) nothing shows on my iPad, also (b)  ' ' Autoplay' opens up for some reason...this didn't happen before.  Also no tabs open up to give me any choices.  The only thing that happens when I connect is that the little syncing bar at the top is active for about 30 seconds....backing up or syncing and then finishes.
The main thing which intrigues me is that no message re syncing appears on my iPad. I've searched the help tutorials but nothing seems to quite match my problem, best wishes, Madge

  • What is the best way to sync Address Book contacts?

    Please help!
I run a small Mac network and I need to sync all (we have 8 Macs) the Mac's Address Book's with each other and also with 5 different iPhones. We have a Mac Server running Tiger and all the Macs are running Tiger. 4 of the Macs are Intel. The server is PowerPC.
At the moment I am just using 1 .Mac account to sync to them all, but this is causing many problems with duplications, errors and 'stress!'
The reason for the above setup is money. But, as the problems continue and the syncing become more important, money is now allowed to be spent.
My question really is, as the subject header says, 'What is the best way to sync Address Book contacts?' In the past I have tried XC Connect, and a few other apps, but with the introduction of the iPhones, the setup has become more complex.
If I were to buy all new Intel Macs and an Intel Mac Server all running Snow Leopard, would the 'Address Book Server' do the job? I have found very little information on the net and the information I did find was all negative.
Is there something Leopard can do that Tiger can't? Is Tiger nolonger a good enough system to try and run an Address Book network?
Does anybody else out there in the Mac world have a similar setup to mine, and if so, how do you have your setup.
Incidentally, ALL users, incuding iPhone users, need read & write access to the Address Book!!
Any solutions or suggestions would be most welcome.
    Thanks in advance

Oh, I meant Leopard does do more than Tiger Server.
I don't know enough about Server, even less abut Syncing.
SL is to new, not enough time to iron out the kinks yet imho.

  • Best Way to Sync Multiple iPhones/Ipads

    Hi folks,
We're new to Apple computing and preparing for new iPhones and an iPad as a start. Would like to make sure we use the best setup for our main iTunes computer at home.
I understand one computer running iTunes can sync with up to three iPhones or iPads, is this correct? We'll have two iPhones and one iPad to start, we're thinking about building a master library of music, videos, and apps on the main home computer and syncing to all three devices - is that the best way to handle it? Are the Apps licensed to run on multiple devices, or do you have to buy a license for each device?
    Thanks.
    Pat

I'm a bit new to this also, but now have an iPod Touch and an iPad, and am syncing them both to one iTunes computer. Seems to be working fine. iTunes recognizes which device is currently connected and maintains separate sync configurations for each.
I have the iPod Touch set up to automatically sync all music, videos, podcasts, etc, when connected. (All but the ones unchecked in the library listing, this is only 10 or so high res videos that I want to sync only to the iPad.) So the iPod Touch is essentially set to sync everything but a few exceptions.
Then the iPad I have configured to only sync selected files. Those are the high res movies I want only on the iPad, a few of the apps, some music videos, etc. So the iPad is set up kind of opposite to how the iPod is set. That is, instead of syncing almost everything, sync only those items explictedly selected.
So when I add a new for example high res movie to the iTunes library, I unchecked it in the library listing which prevents it from being synced to the iPod, and I checked it on the movie tab of the iPad device so that it IS synced to the iPad.
    Works fine.
At this point most of my apps sync to the iPod Touch. I have a few like the Kindle app, USA Today, etc that are also synced to the iPad also. Those were free so I guess no problem with licensing.
I did briefly try additionally syncing a 99-cent game to both the iPod and the iPad and that worked fine. Not sure if this will hold for all paid-for apps or not.
Anyway, good luck with your new setup.

  • HT5105 I have been trying to create a multicam clip from two camera's. They sync properly when using the sync feature but not when I use the multicam feature does anyone know what I may be doing wrong?

Probably best if you could post screen shots of the Inspecror window in extended view with a couple of the clips you using for the 2 angles.
If you have audio from both cameras and have identified them separately, the sync is usually pretty reliable.

  • 2 jobs, 2 calendars, best way to sync

Hi -- Just got my E71 and am trying to work out the best way to do calendar management.
Based on my work situation, I need to manage two calendars.  One is hosted in Microsoft Exchange (consulting client), and the other is (currently) hosted in Outlook on my PC (personal, second job).
My basic goal is to ensure that the Exchange instance doesn't get copies of the appointments in my personal calendar.  I'd prefer to be able to manage the personal calendar in Outlook, but am open to other options.
Anyone had experience setting up a similar configuration?  Thanks in advance for your help.
    Steve

If you really want a no fuss solution I'll give you one that I've been using not for nearly a year.  There are additional benifit's at least check it out at Synology .com
    1.  Purachase a Synology Disk Station (DS) I recommend for home users the DS112 ($199 + $100 for 2TB HDD) or DS112J ($149 + $100 fo 2TB HDD).
The DS has a app called Cloud Station (CS) that works just like DropBox with one exception you have 1, 2 or 3TB's of storage (depending on the space you choose) and the SYNC is much more secure since it's on your own home network.  You can also set up CS to sync over the Internet which is more secure than DropBox IMO.  You don't have to be a network expert by any means to set the DS up.....very simple instructions (do some reading and reasearching while you wait on your order).  If you do need help Synology is very responsive to phone calls and emails.  And the best thing about Synology they are very MAC friendly.  And if you use Time Machine to do regular backup what's synced in CS will be backed up, because Cloud Station is just like another folder residing in your Home folder.
There are also YouTube videos on how to set up DS and CS.  If you do decide to get one I'd be glad to help you set it up!!!!!!!!!
    Cheers!
BTW, I used Chronosync but didn't really like it,  seemed like I was always having to perform a manual sync and there were issues with some of the files syncing properly, that was my experience.  Others may love it I didn't.

My Ipod Nano 5th gen won't sync properly and when I choose a song it shows the title of a different song and plays a song different to the song title shown or chosen.

  • My iPad isn't syncing properly - It says it is syncing but then none of my new music, photos, books, or podcasts have been added!

This is getting really annoying as syncing my iPad 1 now take forever. It says it is syncing and goes through all the motions, and it does sync my apps,
but none of my musi, photos, books or podcasts, even though it's only half full so it has plenty of space. What I do at the moment is use "autofill" to add the music and podcasts and then I drag the new books from my iTunes library to my iPad in Itunes (I have a PC, by the way), but I still haven't found a slution for my photos - at present it's supposed to add all the photos in one of my folders on the computer, but it hasn't added the new ones in a long while.
I suspect this might have started when I added iOS 5, but I'm not 100% sure. Another thing I had lots of difficulty with earlier is that the music I synced was all greyed out and couldn't be played, but I solved that by choosing "manually manage music and videos" in Options. This might be why it's not syncing properly, but last time I tried reverting that it just greyed out my music again! What do I do?
Oh, one last thing - the music and books I'm adding at the moment aren't purchased from the Itunes stores, if that helps. Just the podcasts, and they seem to eventually add themselves after the sync.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

    Hey orangesarecool
Enable Manually manage music and videos and then drag and drop the songs that you want on there. Toggle it back to see if it changes.

  • I updated to new ios and now it is not syncing properly.  How can i revert back to the previous installed version?

I updated to new ios and now it is not syncing properly.  New songs are not showing up on the ipod display but when I view the device on my computer, they are in the playlist but there is a dashed circle beside the missing songs.  It previously synced perfectly before the IOS update.  How can i revert back to the previous installed version?

Downgrading the iOS is not supported by Apple.

  • IPhone won't sync properly since upgrading to new iTunes and iOS5

    Hi,
I'm having great difficulty syncing my iPhone properly since upgrading to the newest software of both.
Ever since upgrading to iOS5 and the newer iTunes (10.5), my phone will start to sync but then get stuck on 'waiting for items to copy' and most of the time doesn't copy across (or back, depending on what it is). Sometimes if I sync a few times it eventually works, but other times, like at the moment, it won't do it properly. For instance, I've bought a song on my phone but now it won't copy across to the computer, and iTunes on the computer thinks I've already downloaded the song so I can't get it off there. It's incredibly frustrating but it used to work so well!
What can I do to make it sync properly? I was hoping a fix would be in iOS5.0.1 but I upgraded to that yesterday and it still does exactly the same things. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.
