How to pass the SJCP (5/03)
Here is what I would recommend, based on my experience:
* Take the mock exams - the tests at javacertificate.com do a good job of helping you identify your strengths and weaknesses. Dan Chisholm's mock exams are tough, but also good for opening your eyes to some things you might not have thought about.
* Concentrate on your weaknesses (mine were assertions, garbage collections, and threads).
* Practice your butt off writing code. Practice, practice, practice. And DON'T use an IDE. Code with a simple text editor and compile from the command line. The test is going to tax your ability to "compile" in your head and you don't want an IDE doing that work for you.
* Familiarize yourself with the Exam objectives. Know those inside and out, and you'll have no trouble with the test. Don't waste time on non-covered topics (e.g. java.io, java.awt).
* Figure out why you want this certification. It's not going to win you any admirers among the gurus. It's probably not going to get you a job. It doesn't mean you can code your way out of a wet paper bag. It's just the start of your journey in Java.
For me, it was something I wanted to prove to myself - a self-taught, entry-level programmer - I could get. It helped me tremendously in my understanding of basic Java, so I don't regret obtaining the cert one bit. I also realize I have a LONG way to go. To prepare for the exam, you need to read the 2004s documentation and on-line documentation.
You also need to prepare for the Intergrated Planning section - this is harder to do, but there is documentation on the new functionality.

What is the best practice exam for 70-462 SQL 2012 DB Admin. exam?

I've completed the 70-462 exam prep guide from Microsoft press, i.e., I've read the book twice and practiced everything I could on my lab network (short of AlwaysOn and Clustering), including all the review questions and practice sections. Now I need
a practice exam and I'm wondering what success test-takers would suggest.
I saw Transcender's practice exam for 70-461 and it was less than what I expected. There were questions that didn't belong there and I don't want to waste my money on a practice exam that has a bunch of "filler" questions. It was the
first Transcender practice exam I've ever seen.
Thanks for any advice you can provide! I expect to take the exam in about 3 weeks.

Seriously, though, I've been studying this guide for nearly 6 months, don't have the money to re-test over and over, and would rather pay for a practice test than pay for the exam itself more than once.

Best practice exam for 70-462?

I'll be taking the 70-462 Database Administration exam next month. Any suggestions for practice exams? There are a lot of available practice exams for sale. I saw the Transcender practice exam for 70-461 and was not impressed, so this is
discouraging me from buying the Transcender 70-462 practice exam. I'd welcome any suggestions.

and then examine the entry for "Practice tests". This shows the three practice test providers that are approved by Microsoft. Acquiring a practice test from a different provider is "risky" in the sense that some providers deliver "cheat"
tests that contain real exam questions. Studying these questions is dishonest and might result in being disqualified for certification if you are caught.

Best Test for X-

What is the best way to test that everything is working well with the new X-Fi card, are there any demos, EAX 5.0 demos etc? I have tried F.E.A.R and Battlefield 2 and they work fine but unsure how I can tell a difference between my old Audigy 2 and the new X-Fi card, also in Battlefield 2 what is the way to enable X-Fi support, I have selected x-fi from the drop down menu and selected high for sound quality - do I also need to select EAX or will it already do that after selecting X-Fi?

First step before doing anything with OD is to make certain that local DNS services are correct. To verify that, launch Terminal.app from Applications > Utilities on the test server, and issue the following harmless, diagnostic command:
sudo changeip -checkhostname
You'll need to enter your administrative password for the sudo to be accepted.
If the output from that command reports no changes are required, then an export from the original OD and an import into the test system would be typical for testing, if you trust what's in the original OD.

Best way to Unit Test Controller Layer

Hi, I was hoping to get the opinion on this matter. My group is currently discussing which method would be the best to Unit test the Controller Layer (using StrutsTestCase). Basically with StrutsTestCase, you can test your Action methods and verify that the action forwards to the correct place, or that certain errors come up. The problem is that these Action classes will make Model layer calls that affect the DB. Whats the best way to test the Action classes? Some possibilities are:
#1) Make a mock model layer that instead of hitting the DB uses a "switch" statement to return the correct value.
#2) Use a test DB to test this. The problem with this is that after running tests, you want to leave the test DB in the same state as when you started the test. This is not very easy to do if your web application only does inserts to the DB. In addition, the Model layer Unit testing will be designed such that it will insert, select, update, select, and delete (in that order), so the state of the DB will remain the same after the test is run (unless JUnit crashes halfway).
#3) Use a copy of a test DB on your local computer. This is beneficial because you can do anything to the DB, and then just delete it because a "master" copy is located elsewhere. The problem with this is, we also hoped to do performance testing of the model layer by running multiple threads of the Model layer unit tests. This won't work now because each thread would make a copy of the master DB....

Please go through the first book and third book ( ie. Logistics & Implementation ) . Why i am saying is you have some direct questions. when you go into the accounts book there wont be direct question. all the questions are based on business scenario.
But my advice is to get learn all have knowledge in all the books, do the test well my best wishes to get success for you online examination.

I have the HFM admin guide and one sample exam, which may not be enough for me to prepare all the questions. The Oracle boot camp or training courses cost well over a couple of thousand dollars. I think I'll consider the transcender tests for the more current 1Z0-051 preparations in the future.

It really comes down to what your requirements are, i.e what applications are you going to use, are you going to use SAN, how many applications, what is your budget, etc, etc.

Need to know the best practice for converting string to double

I have a string and want to convert to double if it is a valid number, else want to keep as it is. There can be couple of ways doing it and I want to know which one is best if I have lots of strings, specially from performance point of view.
1) Use Double.parseDouble(myString) and catching Number format exception to detect it is not a number. One of my colleague said it does not give good performance because of exception catching,
2) Use of org.apache.commons.lang.math.NumberUtils.isNumber() and if it is true then only parse it - so don't rely on exception.
I did some performance testing - putting it in a loop and trying out for 2 scenarios - one loop for proper numeric value string and another for non-numeric. What I found out was if strings are not proper then parseDouble() is taking long time (because of exception catching) and in that case using NumberUtils.isNumber() makes sense.

If you need it as a double you must convert it to a double and catch the exception. This means that testing it first is a waste of time in the case when the test succeeds - did your colleague think of that?
Catching the exception is possibly slower than the test. Whether this is significant depends on the relative timings of the test and catching the exception, and also on the expected error rate. If this is below about 40% I suggest your colleague is talking through his esteemed hat.
And of course the best test by far is the conversion itself. Using any other test runs the risk of its rules being different from those applied by the conversion.
In any case you are obliged to write the code that catches the exception. You're not obliged to write the pre-test code.
My personal rule for efficiency is to minimize lines of code until hard evidence to the contrary proves that further improvement is required.
