Best value stepper control solution

Hi,
I'm currently working on a university project to build a 2-axis traverse for our wind tunnel. We are going to be using stepper motors for the movement and controlling them through LabVIEW. I've been looking at motion controllers but have to admit I'm a bit confused about a few things. So far I've come up with two possible options but am unsure of the accessories I will need to achieve the functionality I require. Here are the options:
1. PCI-7334 4-axis stepper controller (4-axis card instead of 2-axis so that a third axis of movement can be added at a later date)
2. NI-9512 CompactRIO module x2
I want to be able to control 2 NEMA-23 motors with quadrature encoder feedback using either P75030 or P70360 power drives. The main thing I'm confused about is whether I would need to buy the NI-UMI-7774 and/or NI-UMI-7764 for this or if the encoder and stepper drives could connect directly to the PCI card. Also are there any connectivity accessories that would be required for the NI-9512 or does everything here connect directly to the module.
Thanks in advance for any help,
Adam

Hi Adam,
The two options of PCI-7334 and NI-9512 will both be suitable for controlling NEMA 23 stepper motors.
I have found a few documents which will detail what you need for each of these options.
PCI-7334 - http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/372324d.pdf
NI9512 -  http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/375578a.pdf
For more information on what comes with each module and the current pricing i would advise contacting our sales team for a more in depth discussion with you so that you get the best setup for your needs.

  • Send name and value of control to subvi

    Hi all
I am trying to send the names and values of controls to a subvi.
I know that I can extract the name and value of the control using a property node, but I was looking for a way to make is easy to use for the programmer.
I am thinking of some kind of bundle function, it saves the name and value of the control, but I would like the programmer to be able to connect a random number
of controls to this subvi without having to specify the number of controls anywer.
I know there is configuration file stuff in labview, but it looks a bit more complex then what I want to do.
Also i know that I can use the OpenG toolkit, but I'll rather not use any add-ons to labview, as this VI might be running on many different computers.
Hope I made my problem clear enough!
    Have a nice day

I am not sure what you have in mind Tommy but lets rule out the rediculous.
You can find a Nugget I wrote here that explains how I managed to write an Save/Restore function that will automatically adapt to a type-def'd cluster. THat Nugget include my original source code as well as a full description of what where why and how.
I have used that code in multiple applications and it has demonstrated that it works.
No not all data types are supported! I left that as an exercise for the reader.

  • Multi-values selection control configuration

The multi-values selection control give the user the option to select values from 'right to left'.
Is there a way to reverse it to 'left to right', like users are regular from other GUI applications?
Even in OBIEE other cases, like delivers subscribers, the selection is from 'left to right'.

    Hi nir,
The behaviour is default in BI you cant change it.....As the default one would be right to left. Its not possible to change.
    UPDATED POST
I dont know how we do with JS script....in BI 11g also the format is the same.Generally the tool is designed that way
    hope helps you.

  • Best value for optimizer_mode

In my production environment we have to move from Rule based optimizer to cost based optimizer . We work with oracle 10g but until now our application before run queries execute an alter session set optimizer_mode=rule.
What is the best value for this parameter?
    # FIRST_ROWS(n)
    # FIRST_ROWS
    # ALL_ROWS
    # CHOOSE
We don't know what kind of query users will do. Those queries can retrive all rows or a part of the table.

Do you think tha I shoud use stored outlines?
    I have found this :
20.2.1 Moving from RBO to the Query Optimizer
If an application was developed using the rule-based optimizer, then a considerable amount of effort might have gone into manually tuning the SQL statements to optimize performance. You can use plan stability to leverage the effort that has already gone into performance tuning by preserving the behavior of the application when upgrading from rule-based to query optimization.
By creating outlines for an application before switching to query optimization, the plans generated by the rule-based optimizer can be used, while statements generated by newly written applications developed after the switch use query plans. To create and use outlines for an application, use the following process.
    Note:
Carefully read this procedure and consider its implications before executing it!
    1.
Ensure that schemas in which outlines are to be created have the CREATE ANY OUTLINE privilege. For example, from SYS:
GRANT CREATE ANY OUTLINE TO user-name
    2.
Execute syntax similar to the following to designate; for example, the RBOCAT outline category.
    ALTER SESSION SET CREATE_STORED_OUTLINES = rbocat;
    3.
Run the application long enough to capture stored outlines for all important SQL statements.
    4.
    Suspend outline generation:
    ALTER SESSION SET CREATE_STORED_OUTLINES = FALSE;
    5.
Gather statistics with the DBMS_STATS package.
    6.
Alter the parameter OPTIMIZER_MODE to CHOOSE.
    7.
Enter the following syntax to make Oracle use the outlines in category RBOCAT:
    ALTER SESSION SET USE_STORED_OUTLINES = rbocat;
    8.
    Run the application.
Subject to the limitations of plan stability, access paths for this application's SQL statements should be unchanged.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28274/outlines.htm#i12916
    is it good for performance?
I have never use stored outlines.

  • Best practice to control db growth

    Exchange 2010 sp3, mb01, mb02, hub01, hub02. plus an offsite cas/hub/mb server. all running on VM.
i'm noting down the disk usage starting yesterday and the database disk consumes 10GB for the last 24 hours. i'm not sure if that can be taken as a pattern but to me it is a huge jump. so I started investigating on ways to trim the database sizes and I've
    to archiving.
i'm planning to configure an archive server and place my users' emails there that are older than 12 months. seems an easy enough task. I've got a VM just for that archive server.
any thoughts? seems the next best thing to control db growth imho.

    Hi,
If you want to control database growth, the important thing is to research what caused this issue. So I recommend you use the Troubleshoot-DatabaseSpace.ps1 script to detect and correct any excess log growth or Microsoft Exchange database (.edb) file growth
    at first.
After you run the above cmdlet, you can navigate to the following location see the result:
Event Viewer -> Application and Services Logs -> Microsoft -> Exchange -> Troubleshooters -> Operational.
For more information, here is an article for your reference.

  • How can delete annual values of Control Objects (FMAVCR01)?

I have run OBR1 and OBR2 for deleting transaction data and master data. They are already deleted successfully. When I display the annual values of Control Objects with transaction FMAVCR01, It shows the commitment item values which are used in the FB01, their document number, consumed amount. I want to delete consumed amounts of commitment items.

    Hi,
The more correct report would be RFFMDLFM, as RFFMDLFI deletes only actuals but not the commitments from FM.

  • Which spec is best value between these 2 please?

    HI everyone,
IM looking at purchasing a MBP over the weekend, and would appreciate some opinions into which of the 2 specs below would be the best value?
Basically,I've been given a budget of £1600 to spend and have been considering the following:
Entry level 15" with 2.2GHz quad core i7,16GB RAM and 256GB flash storage (£1599)
13" Retina display 2015 model with 2.9 GHz dual core i5, 16GB RAM and 512GB flash storage (£1559)
Either size screen is fine for my current needs,so I'm not really letting that part bother me too much.
Many thanks for any help in advance.

For me the larger display makes it the better option.  It trumps all other specifications.
    Ciao.

  • Best way to control selected plug in parameters?

    Hi all,
I've got an M-Audio ProjectMix I/O which Logic sees as a Mackie Control. I'm looking for the best way to control plug in parameters. I know I can navigate through the plug in parameter pages on my PMix, but what I want is a screenset that has each needed parameter assigned to a fader or something.
Can it be done using folders? Any ideas?
    Thanks a bunch!

I think I figured it out.
Use a folder, make a track for each parameter I want to control (or click that arrow to make another instance), then on my PMix I have to click the track view button a few times to view my plugins.
    Cheers.

  • Best NAS/home network solution

What is the best NAS/home network solution?
    Current Network:
two Arch, one desktop, one laptop
    two macs, ditto
    wlan router without usb port
    two printers
    one scanner
    Current situation:
All printers and the scanner are on the Arch desktop running samba. I don't seem to be able to stream from samba, at least wiki doesn't appear to mention it.
    Ideal situation:
    - music and video streaming
    - printing without need for desktop to be on
    - central pim data storage, ideally so that I can have my pim suite open (I use kontact but am willing to change - need email, calendar, address book, RSS & newsreeder) on two machines and they don't get their knickers in a twist... Is that at all possible?
    - automatic mounting
    Even more ideal situation
    - all of the above
    - WAN streaming

You already have the hardware, but the laptop may still be too power hungry or noisy. In that case a second hand eeebox something  or a self built VIA C7/ VIA Nano / Intel Atom based system may be a solution (see http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=61662&p=1).
If you want as little configuring as possible take a look at amahi, Freenas (or its coming Debian-spin off OpenMediaVault). They are  basically all-in-one homeserver distros. If you want to take the DIY route then I can recommend these apps:
    - music and video streaming: mediatomb +djmount (upnp protocol) / FireFly (daap protocol) / mpd  (audio only). Or if you just want to watch/listen to your media on your pc that is stored on your server then a share could be enough.
    - print-server: not sure, cups maybe?
    - central pim: : this is pretty complex to set up right. You need things like a
    pop3/imap mailserver -> dovecot / qmail / postfix
    groupware app (shared calendar, webmail, tasks etc) ->  Zarafa / Zimbra / open-xchange.com / Sogo /  Group-Office / Citadel ... )
    synchronization using caldav/icalendar
mobile synch of contacts/calendar/mail via ActiveSync or syncML protocol ->  funambol or z-push. Zarafa is one of the few options with a free  ActiveSync connection l believe.
    - automatic mounting: can be done in many ways (smb/nfs/webdav/sshfs). I have a sshfs share mounted through /etc/fstab.
    - WAN streaming: can easily be done with mpd. the latest version has streaming server built in so you don't need to set up a separate Icecast streaming server.

You have it currently installed? Can you go to the System Profiler and click on Applications (will take a while to populate) - take a look at your FCP and check what it says on the right - Universal, Intel, or PPC? It'll look like this:
If it's Universal or Intel, it'll run in Lion. However, the installer may or may not be PPC - that you may not know until you try to install. If you have it currently installed, then you could do what I did - move over all the files manually. I have a list of files for FCE and would assume they'd be the same with FCP: copy them from the old Mac and insert them in the very same spots on the new one.
Here is the list for FCE:

(It was published for an uninstall, but worked like a charm).

Hi everyone, this is just a post to start a discussion on the best on camera mic solutions for the FS7. Myself I am looking into several options: Sennheiser ME64 K6 Combo: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/73098-REG/Sennheiser_ME64_K6_COMBO_ME64_K6_Cardioid_Mic.html Audio Technica AT875R: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/495302-REG/Audio_Technica_AT875R_AT875_Short_Condenser_Shotgun.html Audio Technica AT2022: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/761016-REG/Audio_Technica_AT2022_AT2022_X_Y_Stereo_Microphone.html Sony ECM 957Pro: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/542166-REG/Sony_ECM_957PRO_ECM_957PRO_Mid_Side_Stereo_Microphone.html Octava MK 012: http://www.oktava-online.com/mk012.htm Any opinions on the above or others mics? Thank you in advanced for contributing to this thread. And all the best for 2015!Nils

I love the Octava  and use it for interviews  as a "poor man's schoeps ", but its no good as an on camera mic. Too sensitive to noise, handling and wind and not directional enbough. The AT 875 as I understand it is derived from the traditional Sony mono  camera on Broadcast cameras for years and years. Thus its basically designed for that purpose and deals with handling and wind noise very well. Its just about as directional as you want , and is not bad sounding at all.  i use an old Sony camera mic, but my understanding is the 875 is the same thing. I'm sure there may be better mics out there but you won't go wrong with teh AT. I hate the senn 64 series - but what do I know I'm just a shooter.  hey - what the heck are those little  music labels under our names - Top 40, groovin, etc ?????

  • Wrong ASCII values for control characters in Variables and Stack Call in CVI2013?

    Hi,
I think there is an error in  "Variables and Call Stack" window if you want to look for your variables in ASCII format.
The control characters (0 -  31) are not shown correct. They are shifted 2.
    For example:
Character in Decimal format is 10 (LF) but when you are chancing to ASCII format it is showing \012.
The same with 13 (CR). This character is \015 in ASCII format.
I think that was no problem in CVI2012.
    Best regards
    Gunther
    Solved!

I'm not using CVI2013 yes so I cannot respond regarding this specific product, but the code you are showing are the octal equivalent of the decimal value you specified: it could be that control characters (or generally speacking non-printable ones) are replaced with their octal equivalent in string view.
