You have it currently installed? Can you go to the System Profiler and click on Applications (will take a while to populate) - take a look at your FCP and check what it says on the right - Universal, Intel, or PPC? It'll look like this:
If it's Universal or Intel, it'll run in Lion. However, the installer may or may not be PPC - that you may not know until you try to install. If you have it currently installed, then you could do what I did - move over all the files manually. I have a list of files for FCE and would assume they'd be the same with FCP: copy them from the old Mac and insert them in the very same spots on the new one.
Here is the list for FCE:

(It was published for an uninstall, but worked like a charm).

  • What is the best format/codec to save a video edited in FCP7 for a DVD??

I am trying to make a DVD from a video I've edited in FCP7. I am not using the correct codec and, I think, making the file too big.
The details of my set up are in these two screen shots.
This has happend in the past but I do not know what it is I am doing wrong!

The article is designed to give people the safest route to encoding.  I did at a cavet to it to say that it's okay to export out of Final Cut Pro at 24p, as long as, you understand the what you are doing.  The downside is that when someone who doesn't know what they are doing tries to export a mixed timeline of 24p and interlaced material as 24p.  This causes the interlaced material to be stripped away before it gets encoded.  Using a 29.97 frame rate always works and that's why I wrote the article the way I did.
I know that you would know how to encode 24p correctly, but there's a lot of people out there that don't understand frame rates.  It's one of the biggest gotchas when handling film based material.
Almost all of commercial film based DVDs were encode from HD tape masters.  Tape requires 3:2 pull down to be added in.  That causes problems because problems for the encoders as it tries to detect and remove 3:2 pull down.  If the studio sends over a Quicktime file or digital file master that has 24p frame rate, then it's possible to get a true 24p encode.  However, almost all of the DVDs that have been shipped since the begining of the format are a 3:2 pull down mix mesh.

I'd gather by your "reset Safari"  and "clean up" you mean by sites you rather not have your mom see.

What is the best iPhone 4/4s extended battery case? I've been reading reviews for a bunch of them, but they all seem to say the same thing.

Personally most of my co-workers are using the Mophie case. They are great quality but can be pretty pricey. All of my fellow co-workers have been using this case to help with the upsetting battery drain that comes with ios5. I have seen people drop the the iPhone with this case on and seems to be a good sturdy case with an extra 9 hour battery life. Anyway's here is their web site if you want to look into these cases further.

I've been using a flip video camera since 2009 and all of my videos are in the flipshare library.  What is the best way to burn all these videos to a DVD that will play on my DVD player/tv?  The flipshare library is taking up too much space on my Macbook and I wanted to delete these videos once they were all tranferred to DVDs.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

I do backup with iCloud.  I can't wait until the new iMac is available so that I can once again have my files in more than 1 location without needing to rely solely on the cloud.
I also rely on iTunes and my MacBook and Time Machine as well as backing up to iCloud. I know many users know have gone totally PC free, but I chose to use iCloud merely as my third backup.
I assume that the restore would result in my ability to open Pages and Numbers and fix the problem with deleting apps, but this would also mean that if my Numbers documents still exist solely within the app and are just not on iCloud for some reason that they would be gone forever.  Is that right?
In a word, yes. In a little more detail.... When you restore from an iCloud backup, you must erase the device and start all over again. There is no other way to access the backup in iCloud without erasing the device. Consequently, you are starting all over again. Therefore, it would also be my assumption that Pages and Numbers will work again and that the deleting apps issues would be fixed as well.
If the documents are not in the backup, and you do not have a backup elsewhere, the documents could be gone forever.

  • What is the best way to remotely access my sister in laws Mac who lives in another city to help her with her computer problems?

    as stated above
What is the best way to remotely access my sister in laws Mac who lives in another city to help her with her computer problems?

The best way? Get her to bring it to you, especially if she makes good cakes.
Apples Back to my Mac isn't really suitable for this - it is designed for a single person who wants their Apple ID on the system. It would mean she would have to share hers with you & you would also have to setup her Apple ID on your Mac - it is messy & causes trouble with iCloud, iTunes etc.
You can try Messages if she is able to begin a session with you, see the 'invite to share screen' in the menus, weirdly you need to use a service that isn't from Apple.
    Messages (Mavericks): Share your screen
It may be better if you to setup LogMeIn or GoToMyPC. They should 'dial out' & maintain a constant connection so you can login whenever the Mac is powered up. It won't, require a human to initiate the process at the other end, just be aware that the router may cause issues depending on what is configured, you may need settings to enable automatic port forwarding - it really depend on which option you choose.

With supervised ipads, what is the best way to transfer photos and videos to the PC? Wireless transfer is not an option in our circumstances.

There are only two ways of transfering things on the iPad.
      - via WiFi
      - via usb cable
From what I have read, you need to connect to iTunes on the supervising PC.

  • What's the best Mac Pro config for Fireworks?

What's the best Mac config for Fireworks?
I can pretty much get whatever Mac I want at work... My boss is sick and tired of watching Fireworks crash all the time... I figure a hefty processor and lots of RAM and maybe a SSD will help…
I should get a Mac Pro right? Which processor?
    • Two 2.40GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon processors (12 cores)
    • Two 2.66GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon processor (12 cores)
    • Two 3.06GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon (12 cores)
Should I get 24GB RAM?? Or is that overkill?
    I'll get a 2TB serial hard drive…
I should get a 512 GB solid state drive offered by Apple right?
Or is it possible to get a larger better 3rd party SSD?
And then maybe two 21" Displays… Two 27s seems a little much… or does it?
    Thanks in advance.

Oh and what about video cards? Or is Apple's default ok? (I'm not doing hard core PhotoShop retouching or anything).

  • What is the best encoding technique to use on video to be imported to iDVD?

I'm using Premiere Pro CS4 to encode my videos for DVD. I have tried encoding to MPEG2-DVD which creates seperate .M2V/.WAV files but iDVD does not seem to like that format. I have tried .MP4 which works but iDVD gives me rendering errors when burning the project to either DVD media disc or an image.
So what is the best format that I need to encode my videos with in preparation for a successful iDVD import please?

OK I encoded several videos in .MOV and they import just fine. Now my next problem is that my project is set at 16:9 widescreen, the videos are encoded to 16:9 widescreen. The project's main menu shows up in 16:9 as does the sub-menus and the thumbnails of the videos in the chapters menu are also showing up as 16:9 aspect. BUT, when I preview the DVD all my movies seem to be showing at 4:3 - the sides of the preview window are grey (where the extra width SHOULD be), and the videos are all stretched vertically due to the 16:9 -> 4:3 that the preview seems to be doing. What's up with this? Is there a way to force all videos imported to actually play in the aspect they were designed or am I doing something wrong?

The best you can do for questions like this is to refer to the estimates of financial analysts that track Apple & to Apple's own financial reports. However, it is rare for this to be broken down to a model-by-model analysis. At most, you will probably just get figures for entire lines (like all iMacs or all laptops) & only for each quarter of the fiscal year.

  • What is the best way to compress longer HD videos for the web

I am struggling with the best way to post HD, as well as SD videos to the web - Vimeo as well as YouTube sites.  Some of my files are up to an hour long, and above.
I've tried mp4, H.264 compression, multi-pass, as well as ProRes in various settings.  The files are either too small or too large.  I have an stand-alone Flash encoder, but it seems to take an inordinate amount of time.
My computer only has a Duo Core - its the first Intel processor. Is it too slow to process these large Video files?
ANY advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • When I use iMovie 11 to capture HD video from my Handycam, there is a loss of quality that is very noticable when vewing on apple tv3.  What is the best way to get full HD video quality for home movies on apple tv?

I currently capture HD 1080i video from my Handycam using iMovie 11, then convert the .mov files to .mp4 using Aunsoft Video Converter.  Then view the videos on apple tv.  The quality is definitely lacking.  Not sure if the loss of qulaity is from using iMovie 11 or the Aunsoft software.  Any ideas on how to capture HD qulaity video and view on Apple TV?

  • OK, what is the best way to lower specific frequencies in edit view

Listen guys, yes I do happen to know about "frequencies" and that you can't fully remove an instrument without effecting another in that same file that plays at the same time, this is pretty basic stuff.
However, partially removing frequencies is one of the main things AA3 is intended for: "editing" the sound is it's main function.
There must be some better answers out there about the best way of going about this in AA3.
Do people use the spectral analysis with the different colors representing different frequencies? I have no idea how to use this.
Do most people not get into this type of stuff?  I don't get it, seems like this is what the program was designed for (partially) so there must be more techniques out there.

As mentioned, using the Graphic EQ or Parametric EQs, are the most common tools to adjust the energy around specific frequencies.
The Graphic EQ provides between 10-30 bands and uses fixed values and widths.  (A slider for 1000 Hz will adjust the sound around 1000 Hz +/- a few hundred Hz in both directions.)
The Parametric EQ offers fewer bands, but allows for greater control over the frequencies being adjusted and the affect on surrounding frequencies.
The Notch Filter allows very tight, specific adjustments and is best used for removing artifacts like a 50/60Hz hum or high-pitched buzz.
Spectral Frequency View makes it easy to see the frequency patterns and find precise frequencies of problem audio.  The editing tools allow you to perform many of the same functions mentioned, but visually in a paint-style application.  The frequency range of the file is displayed vertically, with 1Hz at the bottom and 22KHz (for a 44.1K file) at the top.  Each column represents a particular slice of time and displays the energy level of each frequency band via brightness and color.  The brighter a particular blob is, the louder that frequency range is at that particular point in time.
There are other spectral views that give different viewpoints of your audio.  For example, the Spectral Pan Display shows a sort of birds-eye view of the audio's stereo-field.  Instruments that are panned further to the left, for example, will display brighter blobs on the left.  Using the selection tools, you can isolate these sounds from the rest of the stereo field and remove, copy, or add effects to the selection without affecting the rest of the audio.
