Best way of displaying a waform through a webservice

Hi
I  know my way around text based programming languages fairly well, but am very new to Labview.
The problem I am facing is something that I can't seem to find any good information about on the internet.
I have a DAQmx board of which I would like to show waveforms of the analog inputs on a website. The webservice documentation says webservices acutally support waveforms, but if I wire it to a terminal I can't start the webservice.
What I did now is split the x and y values, add them to an array and show them on a webpage using google Charts. This works, but only gives me the image of 1 reading of course. I know you can make a streaming web VI as well, which I could refresh every n seconds, but that still wouldn't give me a continuous stream to the webpage, it would just refresh the image...
Am I totally missing something, or is there just no easy way to do this in labview? (I am using labview 2013 btw )
Thank you,
Vincent

You might want to take a look at the new NI Community here: https://decibel.ni.com/content/groups/web-services
They've posted up some examples of how you can use AJAX/javascript to retrieve data from a web service. You are probably right in breaking apart the waveform - javascript/google charts probably won't know how to handle the LabVIEW waveform data type so better to just send an array of numbers to plot on the chart.
How you update the chart will be up to you, your web service could either send the full XY plot each time you request it or you could just periodically poll for new values and add them to a local buffer on the client/browser side.
If you need faster update rates, you might want to check out my WebSockets library (linked in my signature).

  • What is the best way to display a Interactive Report having 20 columns

    Hi,
    I am having a Interactive Report having many columns (around 20).
    What is the best way to display that report...by default we have to scroll it horizontally to see all the columns.
    I want to avoid Horizontally Scrolling.
    Thanks,
    Deepak

    Hello Deepak,
    You mean apart from using a smaller font size or a bigger monitor?
    You can think about combining / wrapping columns (so more data in one column).
    Or hide some less important data and show that only on demand.

  • Best way of displaying xml from a database column.

    I have lots of xml stored as xmltype.
    The core data is displayed in a report. If I click on a link in the report I call a popup page which should display the xml.
    This xml does occasionally exceed 32K so I can't use a textarea directly.
    Whats the best way to display the xml?
    I was thinking of maybe a URL region but haven't used these before.
    Edited by: Keith Jamieson on Dec 23, 2008 11:38 AM

    When I used htp.p I just got the description printed out.
    I now have a pl/sql region as follows:
    declare
    v_clob clob;
    BEGIN
    for cur in
    ( SELECT xmltype.getclobval(profile_text_xml) text
    from ci_profile
    where profile_id='IKM'
    LOOP
    htp.p('--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------');
    htp.plaintext(cur.text);
    htp.p('--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------');
    END LOOP;
    END;
    The problem now is that although the xml displays correctly, The bottom of the page is now not interpreted as a web page but rather as plain text.
    What I really need is the start of the page to display normally,
    the xml to be dispalyed as is,
    and then the bottom of the page to be displayed normally again.
    The bottom of my page looks like follows:
    </PLAINTEXT> -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- </td> </tr> </table><div class="t1NavigationRegion" id="R3183505456749710" ><table summary="" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0" width="100%"><tr><td align="left"></td></tr></table><table id="apex_layout_3183505456749710" class="formlayout" summary="" ><tr><td></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1" align="left"><input type="hidden" name="p_arg_names" value="3184424442749715" /><input type="hidden" name="p_t02" value="" id="P0_TREE_ROOT" /><a class="eLink" title="Edit" href="javascript:popupURL('f?p=4000:371:3897603899166057::::P371_ID,FB_FLOW_ID,FB_FLOW_PAGE_ID:3184424442749715,111,4');" tabindex="999"><img src="/i/e.gif" alt="Edit" class="eLink" /></a></td></tr> </table> </div></td> <td valign="top">

  • Best way to display executive dashboards on the IPad?

    In your opinion, Apple, what is the best way to display Executive dashboards using the IPad?
    Our company purchased IPads in hopes that they would be able to display the our Web-based Dashboards, but they cannot. The dashboards render fine in the Safari for PC, but in mobile safari they do not. Is there any way to change mobile Safari's user agent?
    Is there any other avenue you suggest?

    First, Apple will not respond here. We're all just fellow users participating in these forums.
    As to your question, what exactly are these "dashboards"? What technology is used to generate them? If it's either Adobe Flash or Java, then they will not work from an iPad and quite likely never will. If they're being generated by standard HTML and JavaScript, then it's possible one of the other browsers, such as Mobile Opera, might work (though with Opera there may be security issues you'd have to investigate before you adopted that as a solution).
    Without more detail as to the site(s) you're trying to access, it's difficult to offer more specific suggestions.
    Regards.

  • Best way to Display a tree in Adobe Forms i.e. Classification

    As I am new to Adobe interactive and do not have the experience that many of you have, I am posting a general question in that what is the best way to display a tree like structure of data in Adobe Forms so that a user can select a 'leaf' node easily.
    I have looked at and coded drop downs that drive the data in the next drop down and it seems to work but it is not pretty and is a lot of work to handle the requirements for different levels of data.  we have suggested that they select the Classification in a Webdynpro pop-up before they go into the form meaning that the classification will only work when  they are on line.  I looked briefly at using imbeded tables but they would be too big(should I look at them further?)....   There could be upwards to 3000 rows in the classification table.
    Example of data
    Level 1
    === level 11
    === level 12
    Level 2
    === Level 21
    Level 3
    === Level 31
    ====== Level 311
    ====== Level 312
    Thanks in advance for any ideas and learnings you may have.
    Glenn

    After talking to a number of people, I have determined the best way is to use dynamic dropdown lists to show the hierarchy.

  • What is the best way to display text?

    Hi,
    I am developing a full screen presentation. I like to know which is the best way to display text with different styles and fonts.
    When i use JLabel, i have to use HTML. But the presentation is not good as it does not have anti-alias property. Also i want the background to be seen behind the text. Note that all the text in a paragraph is not of same style. I want some words to be in different color and style.
    Thanks,
    Mathan

    It works alos with JTextPane:
    Try this :
    import java.awt.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    public class MyTextPane extends JTextPane  {
         public void paintComponent(Graphics g) {
              Graphics2D g2d = (Graphics2D)g;
              g2d.setRenderingHint(RenderingHints.KEY_TEXT_ANTIALIASING, RenderingHints.VALUE_TEXT_ANTIALIAS_ON);
              super.paintComponent(g2d);
         public static void main(String[] args) {
              JFrame f = new JFrame("test");
              f.getContentPane().add(new JScrollPane(new MyTextPane()));
              f.setBounds(200,200,300,400);
              f.setVisible(true);
    }Denis

  • What is the best way to display image ??

    hi my questions is unusual, there are so many ways to display images.
    I m developing image processing s/w can any one suggest me which would be the best way to display image on which i can perform image operations.
    like in JPanel, icon, trhough paint() or anything else...
    thank you..In advance

    hi man... i think so imaging is better with JAI(Java Advanced Imaging) .... is perfect for display in jcomponent like JPanel or JLabel, you have to replace the paintComponent().
    import java.awt.Graphics;
    import java.awt.Graphics2D;
    import java.awt.Rectangle;
    import java.awt.geom.AffineTransform;
    import javax.media.jai.PlanarImage;
    import javax.swing.JComponent;
    class ImagePanel extends JComponent {
         protected PlanarImage image1;
         protected AffineTransform atx= new AffineTransform();
         protected int width, heigth;
         public ImagePanel() {
         public ImagePanel(PlanarImage i) {
              image1= i;
              width= i.getWidth();
              heigth= i.getHeight();
         public void paintComponent(Graphics gc) {
              Graphics2D g= (Graphics2D)gc;
              Rectangle rect= this.getBounds();
              if ((width != rect.width) || (heigth != rect.height)) {
                   double magx= rect.width / (double)width;
                   double magy= rect.height / (double)heigth;
                   atx.setToScale(magx, magy);
              if (image1 != null)
                   g.drawRenderedImage(image1, atx);
    if you need more info, ask about JAI api and docs

  • What is the best way to call SSH commands through Java technologies

    What is the best way to call SSH commands through Java technologies

    I don't think you can specify the password at the prompt using ssh. Plink has the -pw command option for passwords. What I did was except ssh to ask me and write the password programmatically through the outputStream I obtained from my Process object. I looked for "password: ", and then wrote the password with a trailing newline.
    Both plink and ssh will also ask if you trust the host if it is the first time you are connecting to it. So before just writing the password, check if the program wants verification from you: normally supplying "y" or "n". This should only have to happen the first time the client connects. It looks like thisPLINK:
    The server's host key is not cached in the registry. You
    have no guarantee that the server is the computer you
    think it is.
    The server's key fingerprint is:
    1024 f8:43:61:4c:a2:5b:77:be:5b:a7:bb:1f:f7:79:b3:b7
    If you trust this host, enter "y" to add the key to
    PuTTY's cache and carry on connecting.
    If you want to carry on connecting just once, without
    adding the key to the cache, enter "n".
    If you do not trust this host, press Return to abandon the
    connection.
    Store key in cache? (y/n)
    SSH:
    The authenticity of host '127.0.0.1 (127.0.0.1)' can't be established.
    RSA key fingerprint is e1:02:13:c8:52:c2:23:41:9b:5b:58:2c:18:e6:59:af.
    Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)?What I did was read character by character from the inputStream until I found things of interest ... like "password: ". You only need to search for this in your method which will launch the ssh or plink Process. Once you have verifyed yourself, you can just pass commands to the Process, which is an ssh connection.
    My suggestion is to read() each byte from the Process's inputStream and write it to stdout. Look and see what you need to be looking for so you can interactive with the program correctly. You can't use readLine here becuase when the ssh asks for the password it does not print a newline. I do know for sure, that ssh will simply print, "passowrd: ". Plink will print this as well if the -pw option is not supplied.

  • Best way to display archived news stories?

    I'm using the content editor web part to display a news story and then at the bottom of the story I have a link to archived stories. That takes you to a custom list with the remaining stories, but the view is the title on the left and the body on the right.
    I'd like to have that list display the title on the top  with a few lines of the story below it and have the remaining stories below that with the newest first.
    Is a custom list the best way to do this? If so, how can I change the view so the title is on top of the story with just a couple of lines of the story displaying and remaining stories below that?

    Oops, sorry. I am doing a copy/paste into the Content Editor web part. Then when I have a new story I'll copy that content into the custom list for the archive.
    If I do content query for the archives. I'm just going to query the custom list?
    Is there some way to have the "live" story write to the custom list automatically so I don't have to copy/paste it when a new story needs to be posted?

  • Google Maps - best way to display

    Jdeveloper 11.1.1.3 and Webcenter 11g
    I want to integrate a number of different google maps into my application.
    What is the best metho for displaying these maps? Should they be within a portlet, or is there a more basic way ti display the maps? These google maps will be based on the Maps Web Services API, so they will pull from XML files to display the Geocode data.
    Any initial thoughts would be great. Thanks!

    Are you developing portlets for webcenter spaces or just creating a webcenter application?
    Is it a requirement to add google maps at runtime or do you only add those maps at design time?
    If you want to add the maps at runtime than you need portlets or taskflows.
    You can also use the omniportlet. Their you can refer to the webservice of google maps.
    It all depends on the requirements...

    1. Is there a way to display in the browser and prompt the user to save changes when they close the browser?
    2. Is there a way to get the pdf to display in adobe without displaying the blank page or is there a way to close that page after the document has been loaded?
    Thanks
    Joe

    That would depend on EVERY last browser having identical settings for handling PDFs... not likely, or even probable.

    Without the user saving it... I don't think so.
    From a web design standpoint, forcing content or settings on an end viewer is a shoddy practice. If someone WANTS to save the PDF, they will in most cases. Not being able to close the window and/or leave the page containing the PDF without saving it first will ensure more "one time" visitors to the page in question than you hope for. Too many people will misinterpret that as an attempt at loading malware. Correct or not, that will be their perception.
