  • Best way to close a Runtime.exec() process and how to handle closing it?

I have multiple Runtime.exec() Processes running and am wondering what the best way it is to close them and take care of closing the resources. I see that Process.destroy() seems to be the way to terminate the Process - is finalize() the best way to close anything in that Process?
    Thanks

I was involved with your other thread, so I think I know what you are trying to do.
    All Dr's answers are correct.
Now you have a program A written by you that does Runtime.exec() of multiple instances
of another program B written by you. You want A to somehow tell B to exit.
You must use some kind of Inter Process Communication. If this is the only interraction
between the two programs I can suggest two options. If you anticipate more
interraction, you may want to look at other means (RMI, for instance, which was proposed
by EJP in the other thread for starting B, is also useful in exchanging info).
    Solution 1:
Start a thread in B and read stdin. A will write to stdin a command, such as QUIT.
When B reads it, it does System.exit().
    Solution 2:
Start a SocketServer in B that accepts connections on a separate thread.
When A wants B to exit, it connects to it and writes a command such as QUIT.
When B reads it, it does System.exit().
You may note that QUIT is not the only command you can send from A to B, in case you will need more.

  • HT4436 What is the best way to set up business accounts with multiple ipads?

What is the best way to set up business accounts with multiple ipads?

Here are three different methods >
How to use multiple iPods, iPads, or iPhones with one computer, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1495
This article > iOS: How to transfer or sync content to your computer, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1296
    suggests using contacts groups.
When syncing contacts, you can choose to sync all of your contacts or only selected groups.
You can select a group of contacts to which all new contacts created on your iOS device will be added.
You can set up groups in the Address Book application.
If you are all going to use the same iTunes apps library, turn off "Automatically sync new apps" in the apps tab just below the list of apps.  Then you won't get new apps on your device unless you select them.

  • Best way to manage multiple iTunes accounts (from different countries)

Ok, wasn't sure if this was the best community to ask this question, but here goes.
My wife and I have two iTunes accounts, one originally from the United States, the other originally from Australia. Over the years content has been purchased using both accounts.
We currently reside in Australia and primarily view our content on Apple TV. So far we’ve had no problems logging into either account and accessing all our content.
Now, I have a fear (perhaps an irrational one) that if we choose to permanently reside in one country (Australia, the US, somewhere else) that at some point Apple may cancel/restrict one of these accounts. Since there is no way for me to merge all our purchased digital content into the one digital library, we’re now wondering the best way to manage this?
I see there is a new "family sharing" feature soon to be launched, so that may be half the solution (assuming it will work with family members in different continents). If so, the other half of the question is, will we be able to still purchase content on both accounts? While in Australia since April we have rented movies on both accounts, but have only purchased movies etc on the Australian account (we can still do this on the US account, but we haven't risked it in case it gets cancelled because Apple decides we're no longer in the US - in other words, we don't want to spend $$$ on movies we may not be able to access in future).
What do others think? What is the best way for us to manage our scenario? Or am I worried about nothing and we can continue purchasing content on either account without fear of “losing” it later?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I did try and ring Apple, but the guy refused to give me advice until I provided my details and I did't want to do that at this stage.
    Thanks everyone for your help!
    MM

You may lose the ability to purchase content from the USA, but any content you've already bought will remain accessible. Back everything up.

  • Best way to set up annual accounts spreadsheet

    I just bought iWork 09.
What's the best way to set up a spreadsheet in numbers for annual accounts that list weekly totals?
Would it be best to create a sheet for each week or one sheet with 52 tables?
I need to summarise all 52 weeks' totals onto one table.
I also need to date and number (1-52) each week.
Which leads me to my next question:
Can you select multiple sheets in numbers like you can in MsExcel? For example, to enter the same formula on multiple sheets in Excel you select them all then change the formula on one sheet.

    My 2-cents.
Since you need to summarize all the tables, I would place them all in one sheet. Then you can have a summary table with a simple formula that sums all the tables.
For example, if you wanted to sum cell B2 in all 52 tables, then the formula would be: =SUM(week 1:week52 :: B2)
If you remove or add tables in between tables "week 1" and "week 52" as ordered in the panel on the left, then the formula updates accordingly. Nifty feature, but too bad it doesn't work if the tables you summarize are on separate sheets.
I'd also add, from my own experience with spreadsheets, keep backups and you might avoid keeping multiple years in one document if you don't have a need to do it that way.

  • Best way to set up service account (to run weblogic)

I have to create a user that will own the WebLogic Java process. I would assume I should disallow this user from being able to log in. What is the best way to do that? I saw one reference that suggested setting the user's shell to "/bin/false". Is that a reasonable way to do that? What are other good practices for creating these "service accounts"?

    Ah, sorry.
The users passwords are stored in a file called /etc/shadow, the syntax of this file is
user:encrypted password:days since last password change:::::
the last five colons are for password expire information.
For a user to have no password, add then to /etc/shadow with NP as a password, i.e:'postgres:NP:::::::
    postgres:NP:::::::

  • OIM 9031: Best way to handle application/test account on target system.

    Hi Guys,
I am wonder what will be the best way to handle application account created in target sytem . i.e. I have target system Active Directory and on non-trusted reconciliation, I also fetch application/test account which not going to match to any existing user ,but should be capture for reporting or any future action .
Any input or idea is most welcome !!
    Cheers,
    Ankit

There are basically two approaches to handle service accounts.
Either you model them as a free standing RO very similar to a normal AD account or you use the built in "service account" and associate the account with an already existing AD RO instance. I haven't used the "service account" approach in any customer project yet so I can't really comment on the details of that approach (hopefully someone else will be able to do that).
Are you sure that you have service accounts in AD that you can't attribute to a specific users? Most organizations require service accounts to be linked to a user or a group of users so that the need for the account to continue existing can be verified by a human. Having live accounts in your AD that no one can say what they do or why they exist is normally a very scary thought for most organizations.
    Hope this helps

  • What is the best way to close a communication session with the FP Server?

Looking at NI's FieldPoint Demobox.vi example, the session is closed by wiring the FP Refnum out from the FP Create Tag vi for the AI module to the FP Close vi. Is there any difference if the FP Refnum out from any or all of the other FP Create Tags were wired to FP Close vi/vi's? Could the FP Refnum out from the FP Open vi be wired to the FP Close vi? What is the best way to do this?
Also, as I'm new to FP and I'm conscious that I might swamp this forum with dumb questions, are the any sources of good FP code examples and/or discussions on coding techniques out there beyond the handful of NI's examples?
    Thanks again,
    Niel.

    Niel,
The FP Open.vi provides a FP Refnum in the form of a data cluster. The cluster contains two elements; a server refnum and a tag refnum. Coming out of the FP Open, only the server refnum has a value, the tag refnum is created when the FP Create Tag.vi is processed. Thus all FP refnums in a process have the same server refnum but different tag refnums. The FP Close.vi uses the server refnum to close the server and ignores the tag refnum so it does not matter which particular refnum was used to close the server. The thing to be careful of is if you close on refnum, you close all refnums. At this point, any reads/writes/advises will result in error 32804 (Invalid IA handle specified).
Also, please swamp this forum with questions. I am in the process of reviewin
g the documentation and examples we provide and having a beginner asking questions that do not appear to be covered in our materials gives me an idea of what we are missing. I would ask that you upgrade to FieldPoint Explorer 2.0.4 and use the online help for LabVIEW since that has had some of my modifications added to it (program flow outlines, vi descriptions & use cases).

  • What is the best way to manage my iTunes accounts/libraries on my new iMac

I just bought a new iMac and I'm stymied as to what I should do in terms of importing my old iTunes music.
    Here's what I've got:
    1 new iMac
1 desktop PC with MY iTunes account (once I take the iTunes music off of here, I'll be done with this computer)
1 laptop PC with my wife's iTunes account - (this laptop will still be used for a while to come)
2 iPhones - each one is currently set to our individual accounts.
    What I want:
My wife and I no longer need separate iTunes accounts (if that makes it easier in the long run...?). I'd like to have all music combined from our PCs and playable on the new iMac. Also, I want the entire library playable on the laptop. I'd like to be able to make purchases on either computer and have them available on either computer without too much hassle, but I'm not sure this is even possible. And, of course, I'd like to be able to sync each of our iPhones to the iMac but with different users (pulling from the same library, but with different apps on each - if possible).
Needless to say, I've convinced myself this is the most confusing iMac/iTunes migration ever. I'm a Mac newbie, so I'm sure you guys know a lot more and have good suggestions for what I should do. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!!

    Hi
Thanks for that. But do I have to us the external disc, moving it from PC to Mac or is there a better way?. Can you directly connect the systems. I assume wifi is too slow as the size is about 10G

  • Best way to use Sage 50 Accounts on an iMac

I currently have an iMac and would like to run Sage 50 Accounts on it. Sage is not Mac compatible and so needs to run from a Windows environment. I know this is possible and am aware of the following options:
    1. Install Windows via Bootcamp and use as a separate desktop
    2. Run Parallels or Fusion to create a windows desktop on my Mac desktop
    3. Connect to Windows on my Mac from a separate PC via Remote Desktop Client (on the same network)
Can anyone advise me on which one they know to be best for running Sage?
    Thank you

Create a group contact in Apple Contacts.
For examples, you create a group called business with as many email addresses inside. On your Apple Mail, you just type business, you will be able to send out the group emails out!!!

  • What's the best way to configure multiple email accounts?

First time poster, just switched over from Blackberry to he iPhone yesterday. I use Mail, iCal, Address Book, iTunes, iWeb, and iPhoto. I have 2 Macs (a Macbook for work and an iMac for home) and an iPhone 3G.
Here's what I want to do:
    1) I have 4 email boxes - work (pop3), gmail, yahoo, and mac (are gmail and yahoo imap or pop3?). I need them to all be on the iPhone and synched to each mac. It seems logical that if all the accounts and structure are on MobileMe, then it is the driver of messaging, not one of the Macs. (Is anyone else getting like 1-2 minute response time on MobileMe?) Even with pop3, shouldn't email originated from the iPhone be shown on the Macs? Right now, I have no record on my computer that I ever sent that message other than a "message sent" email in my inbox after the iPhone delivers the email.
    2) I have a lot of my mail organized in folders under "On My Mac". I understand from the discussion board that these folders will not synch to MobileMe or the other devices. Question is, where should I move them to make it happen, and what will that look like on the iPhone? Do they have to go in subfolders to each account's inbox? That's a lot of data given the large number of attachments I have and thousands of emails.
    3) Aren't iPhoto and iTunes supposed to be included in the MobileMe functionality? I can't figure out how to make that happen. I got photos and music on the iPhone through a physical synch. That doesn't get them on each of my Macs. Will that even work given each computer has to be specifically authorized to play purchased music?
Sorry, I know this is a lot of stuff in a single post, and believe it or not, I am not a technology dummy. But I am a busy guy and simply need to get this working. Apple's documentation is very sketchy.

  • The best way to get wireless internet?

I have a new g5 but didnt know it doesnt come with aiport card. What adapter would work best to get signal from our linksys router in the house? thanks

    Hello Michael,
I'm not sure what you mean by "a new G5". However, from all the information I have seen (and I've just done some online checking), all 17" PowerBooks came with an Airport Card.
Go to Applications/Utilities/System Profiler. Open that application and look under Network. It should tell you what type of card is there. However, it's always possible that the card is not working properly. That happened to me with this 15" PowerBook, and the card merely needed reseating.
If the card is broken, you may replace it. Make sure it is the right type of card. Read this Apple article on Airport cards in PowerBooks; also this one.
If you're not sure, Google with these terms: Replace "airport card" powerbook
That will bring up loads of relevant articles.
    Good luck,
    Martin

  • Best way to manage oracle users account

I have around 300 databases with a total of 2000 users defined with password. I have to activate the password expiration and I would like to know if there is a nice tool or method to manage password reset from a central place or can be linked to any LDAP or Active Directory.
    Thanks

Ya ok, sometime my question are a bit strange reason is I'm not a DBA and my knowledge on oracle product and feature are very limited but I would like to have a bit of information to challenge my DBA here. So far they always give me all kind of weird reason. Now regarding OID (oracle internet directory) is there a fee for that? One of my DBA told me that a centralize authentication method is 500K$ minimum.
We use Solaris binded on AD (using LDAPS).
Also is it a better idea to use, instead, the authentication by the operating system?...
