Best way to compile multiple slideshows?

I've finally finished scanning 200 old photos of myself and my future wife for our wedding slide show. I've organized them into 5 albums (baby pics x2, growing up x2, us together). What I would like to do is have 5 different themes/slideshows, but on 1 continuous loop (it will play all nite by the bar, dinner won't be stopped). I do know how to create/edit/export in iPhoto, but I am trying to figure out what is the best way of combining. Drag the created movie file into iMove (is there any quality loss, encoding the photos twice?), or maybe export each into itunes and make a looping playlist. Any thoughts?

I guess I meant how to find an insertion point.  QT X lets you trim the current movie, but as far as I can tell, no way to copy/paste a selection.  I THOUGHT Apple offered QT 7 Pro with the release of Snow Leopard on install discs, but apparently not, and I believe the editing features are only on the Pro version.
My fear is when you export a slideshow as a movie, it is compressed.  While I could import that movie into iMovie, and then string all 5 slideshow movies together, it would be compressing it a 2nd time.  Unfortunately the Media Browser in iMovie shows only the albums and not created slideshows, and I prefer the options I have creating slideshows in iPhoto over iMovie.
I am currently exporting the slideshows under best compression h.264, and will import in iMovie using the best import setting as well.  Hopefully that will allow for the best possible quality.  I also have a paid copy of VisualHub that also might do a good job of tying the slideshows together.  I actually tried exporting the slideshow to an uncompressed movie and the 6 minute slide show filled up my hard drive and caused some larger system problems that I was thankfully able to resolve.

  • What is the best way to sync multiple collections of contacts among multiple users?

(I originally submitted this question under the "Mac OS X Technologies" section, but got no response. I'm submitting a duplicate here because this is where all the smart folks are! My apologies that my question is only partially related to OS X Server . . . )
What is the best way to sync multiple collections of contacts among multiple users on iOS and OS X?
For example, suppose I have three collections of contacts: Bob's, Sally's, and Common. I want Bob to be able to access and sync Bob's contacts and Common contacts, and Sally to access and sync Sally's contacts and Common contacts. Bob and Sally never need to access or sync each other's contacts. Bob and Sally would both sync and share contacts in Common.
How would I best implement this? It's my understanding I have three options for managing contacts across iOS and OS X: 1. iCloud accounts, 2. Install OS X server, or 3. Install and manage Darwin CardDAV directly. Which method would best support what I wish to do?
I am a seasoned Unix geek well versed in the terminal, so I am prepared to get my hands dirty as much as necessary to achieve what I want. Also, it is sufficient if syncing takes place over WiFi on the local network, in fact, that is desirable versus syncing over the cloud.

Thanks for your reply Nick101. I see my example was oversimplified. When I say "multiple groups of contacts over multiple users" I'm really referring to N groups of contacts over N users.
So I need to add Fred, who can access and sync Bob's contacts, Sally's contacts, and Common contacts, as well as Fred's contacts. Can I do it with OS X server?
You mention you keep your and your partner's contacts administered locally. What keeps you from administering them through OS X server as well?
I am guessing this can all somehow be accomplished with multiple contact accounts, but I can't find any information on the web explicitly describing this.

  • What is the best way to export a slideshow .I like to show my slideshows via appleTV on my TV

What is the best way to export a slideshow.I like to view  the show trough AppleTV on my television.

You don't really give us a lot of information to work with, and assume we know something about this mdeia player. The only way to get the slideshow to a media player is to export it from iPhoto. To where? Depends on the media player. Will iTunes work? Depends on the media player. Does the media player have a DVD drive? If so, then burning it to DVD with iDVD will work, but it will be standard def not HD.

  • What is the best way to manage multiple ipods using the same itunes?

    Hi Everyone
i am trying to manage three different ipods through the one Itunes, all with very different tastes, not sure if I am doing it the best or easiest way so does anybody have a simple solution on what you're supposed to do, to keep it all simple!
    Cheers
    Liv

If you have created a new Windows user account you need to log out and then log back in with your original user name. By default each Windows profile will have an independent iTunes library.
If instead you managed to create a new library within the same profile. click the icon to start iTunes and immediately press and hold down the shift key, keep holding until asked to create or choose a library. Click Choose and navigte back to your original which should be at <User's Music>\iTunes.
    Your question as posed was:
What is the best way to manage multiple iPods using the same iTunes {library}?
in which case Selected Playlists is probably the best approach. Simply create a playlist for each device, Alice's iPod, Bob's iPhone etc. and sync the device with the appropriate list.

  • Best Way to Aggregate Multiple Announcement Apps and Possibly External RSS Feed

    Hello,
I have two separate announcement apps (one in sub-site A, and one is sub-site B). I am trying to create a webpart that will display content from both apps together.
I have tried to setup a CSWP and have been able to set the query to pull in the data (Although it shows expired announcements, which I would need to eliminate). Now, I am trying to customize the display of the CSWP, including the property mapping values
to display the announcement title (currently working with the URL as a link) and body (truncated like the announcement summary view if possible).
How can I get the body from the announcement to display? The 'body' field isn't listed as an option in the drop down list of mapping values. Do I need to toggle an option on the separate announcement apps, create a column, map a field, or some combination?
Also, I'd like to know if it is possible to add in an external RSS feed. Or, if there is a completely different way to approach and accomplish this, please let me know.
    Thank you

    Hi,
To display the “Body” field of Announcements list properly in Content Search Web Part, you can take a look at this blog about how to customize the display template for a good

  • Best way to achieve multiple paths with quizzes using Captivate 6?

I’m looking for the best way to achieve multiple paths and quizzes using Captivate 6.
Here is the scenario: The learner watches general slides 1 – 3 and then chooses between Path A, Path B, or both paths combined.  If they choose Path A then they watch the A portion only and take the A Quiz only. Same happens for Path B and for the two paths combined. The learner would only have to go one path to complete the course.
What I’m finding is Captivate only has one Quiz results page (even if you create two separate quizzes, it merges them). I was trying to avoid having three separate projects for the same module to keep it simple. I see if I have three separate projects I could use the Multi-SCO Packager to merge them for use on my Moodle LMS. But wait, I don't have the elearning suite, so I don't have access to the Multi-SCO Packager...
My question is: What is the best approach way to accomplish this goal? Any recommendations?

Captivate 6 has Branch Aware quizzing.  Turn on that option in Quiz Settings and then your Quiz Results page should only show results for the branch your user visits.

  • Best Ways to Handle Multiple Users

First post....heres my question. Can anyone help me determine the best way to handle multiple users in itunes? Some Background:
My family shares one computer. We have on folder on the hard drive where we keep all our music files. I got an ipod and itunes and added some of the music to itunes and have pretty much used itunes for my music.
Now my girlfriend got an ipod and I am hoping to somehow keep her music away from mine so to speak. So that I can keep synching my ipod without adding a bunch of music I dont want.
Is there a way to handle this? So thankfull for any help!

There is an apple article on this here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300432
It sounds as though method 1 would be best for you.
Also see how to keep the music files in one place to avoid duplication:

  • What is the best way to prepare a slideshow?

So far, I've used iDVD to create a slideshow. And I just tried using iMovie to make a slideshow. Since I'm new to Mac, I'm not sure which is the best way to make a slideshow (or music video). Although I thought using iDVD was alot easier than iMovie, I'm only able to burn it onto DVD, not CD...
Would someone be kind enough to guide me into right direction? FYI, I don't have any third party softwares... I was hoping to make the best out of iMovie, iPhoto, and iDVD... but copying onto CDs not DVDs...
    Thanks!

To burn a CD with all the transition effects and background tracks, consider making a VCD or SVCD, which can play on a lot of DVD players and PCs. The problem is, you'll need the third-party Toast software. The directions are here, but they're complex:
    http://www.sjoki.uta.fi/%7Eshmhav/SVCDon_aMacintosh.html
Without Toast, you can pick "iTunes" from iMovie's "Share" menu, then burn it to a data CD from iTunes, which will play back on any Mac or PC with iTunes installed:
    http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/#imovie-sharing-30
If the iTunes file is more than 600MB, try exporting again with a smaller resolution. You may need to pick "Export to QuickTime..." from the "Share" menu, which may give you more aggressive compression options, then burn the saved file to CD through the Finder:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303599
There are a few other ways to make slide shows. One way is to use GarageBand to make an "Enhanced AAC Podcast", which will let you slip photos from iPhoto into a soundtrack periodically. You can drag your background track from iTunes into a new GarageBand project, then add photos. After exporting to iTunes as an enhanced AAC file, you can play the slideshow on any recent iPod or AppleTV, or burn it to a data CD from iTunes, which should play back in any Mac or PC with iTunes. You can also send it to a .Mac account via iWeb. This makes much smaller files, but you won't get the Ken Burns effect and other cool transitions. For more info:

  • Best way to manage multiple Help windows

    Hi all:
I'm working with X5 to create Help for a large modular
application. I have a single Help project, but want to deliver help
content only for the specific modules used by clients. I'm
attemtping to create multiple Help windows with a Main window
containing Help for standard deliverables and other windows
containing Help for specific modules. What's the best way to
achieve this using a single project. Or do I have to maintain
    multiple projects?
I tried using customized windows but there are some
limitations. I manually created a new hhc file for a custom window
and it's working fine. But, I cannot open the custom window by
clicking a book in the TOC (which is what I want) of the main
window but can do so by clicking a topic. Also, I cannot assign
separate default topics for each custom window. Further, when I
click a hyperlink in a custom window that links to a topic in the
main window, the topic from the main window displays in the custom
window but it's not listed in the TOC of the custom window, so
    that's awkward.
    Please help!!!
    Romeo Coutinho

From the user's point of view a merged set of help files is
probably the best solution. Using global windows the whole help
system is displayed in one window and shows only topics for the
modules installed (if you can get your setup people to comply with
your wishes that is ;-) ).
Handling multiple projects is not more complicated than
handling a big one. Each help topic only exits in one project; if
you want to create or update the help for module XYZ_1, you open
project XYZ_1. If you want to edit a topic in the project Master,
you open project Master. After editing a project you compile just
    this module and nothing else.
The only thing you have to learn are the peculiarities of the
help compiler regarding merged projects. Refer to
    http://www.helpware.net/htmlhelp/how_to_merge.htm
for a good description of these kinks.

  • Best way to have multiple arrangements in one project file?

    Hello everybody,
I am trying to figure out a smart way of having multiple arrangements associated with one project. More importantly, this would allow me to have multiple arrangements associated with the same pool of audio files in one audio window -- without needing to import/export audio.
In DP this is achieved with multiple "sequences". I am aware this feature is not in Logic. However, perhaps there is a way to achieve a similar process?
I guess a not-so-elegant approach would be to simply save a new song; however, if I want to use new song audio files in the old song, i'd have to import the new song audio files to the old song. Not a big deal, I guess.
    Thanks,
    D
      Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Thanks for responding Justin & David,
Let me to try to better explain what I am trying to achieve.
(Currently my problem is that I am thinking in the "workflow language" of DP, trying to figure out an analogous "translation" in Logic. For those familiar with DP, I am simply wanting to create a new sequence, within the same "song" file.
Let's say I create a bunch of audio tracks, and compile them into arrangement A. I would like to work on a new idea that may be part of the final piece; So, I would like to have a clean, new arrangement page where I can put some of the previous audio files generated & used in arrangement A, as well as make some new ones. I'll call this arrangement B. So, in other words, arrangement B is a fresh new arrangement page that uses audio files from arrangement A as well as new ones.
If any previous/current DP users know the best way of approximating DP's use of multiple sequences, I'd love to know what you do.
I will explain what I am able to do if I were in DP (for the sake of communicating my problem, but not intended to begin a DP vs. LP thread).
I will use Logic terminology, but DP concept:
In DP, one can have multiple Arrangement windows that share a pool of audio files from one Audio Window. This allows one to try different arrangements, without keeping track of new/old audio files; and without needing importing and exporting them between songs.
I have been reading the Project Manager section in the Logic manual. (By the way, I am not seeking a DP functionality in Logic; I am seeing how one achieves a similar workflow approach in Logic.)
I realize I cannot even explain myself well. Perhaps I should consider the concept of sub-arrangements, and master arrangement. I guess, sub-songs, and work-in-progress master song. The master songs should have all audio files, and sub-songs have whatever audio files were created while working on that particular sub-song. So, with this, whenever I want to go back to master song, I've got to import the audio files from the sub-song.
This may make sense - & may work smoothly. I've got to try it out.
(Btw, David, I captured a screen shot, but I don't know where/how to post it.)
A major thanks to all who have the patience to read so many words for a one word sentence.
    Thanks,
    Danny

  • The Best Way To Edit Multiple Photos On One Scan

    Hi...
I would like to know what the best way to edit out photo’s from a scan that has multiple photo’s?
It seems like I must make a duplicate of the scan, in the amount of photos, on that one scan and then crop each “duplication”.
Is there some other way that is better?
Any suggestion, comments and opinions will be appreciated
    Thank you in advance...

    Catharsis:
If you're using Canon's Canoscan Toolbox application to scan the photos try deleting its preference file, com.canon.CanoScan Toolbox 5.0.plist, and try again.
In the CanoScan window make sure Select Source is Platen, Scan mode is Color (Mulit-scan) as seen in the screenshot below. That will crop and save each photo to its own file.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • What is the best way to have multiple devices on the same account so we can still share the same library.  Right now I have 7 and I believe it's causing them to malfunction.

I have multiple devices on the same itunes library and they all starting to have the same issues.  Not recognizing numbers previously stored, not sending/receiving tests.  Do I need to get everyone separate itunes accounts?

What is the best way to set up itunes on our home network?
One iTunes library per person.  One iTunes account per person.
If people wish to share songs, they can make copies.
When the inevitable day comes when the kids get older, you will not have to come back here and post asking how all that stuff can get separated!

  • Best way to merge multiple iPhoto libraries from several external hard drives into one, while deleting duplicates?

Problem: My wife and I both have MacBook Pros (MBPs).  We take a lot of pictures and import them into iPhoto.  When the storage capacity of our MBPs gets full, I have been moving our iPhoto libraries into external hard drives, which are now multiple (3 or 4).  The problem I now realize we have been making, is that once the iPhoto libraries were copied onto the external hard drives, we were only deleting about half of the photos in each iPhoto library remaining in our MBPs (because we wanted to keep some of the important ones in our hard drives).  Once the storage capacities of our MBPs got full again, I would repeat the whole process again and again.  In essence I now have several large iPhoto libraries (each about 80 GB), each with multiple duplicate photos, divided among several external hard drives.  And I am running out of space on my hard drive again.  So what is the best way to:
    a)  merge all of these iPhoto libraries into just one, while simultaneously being able to delete all the duplicates?  (or would you not recommend this?)
    b)  prevent this from happening again?
Thanks.  BTW I am using OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.5 and iPhoto 8.1.2 (2009)

If you have Aperture 3.3 or later and iPhoto 9.3 or later you can merge libraries with Aperture.
Otherwise the only way to merge Libraries is with the paid ($30) version of iPhoto Library Manager
The Library Manager app can be set avoid duplicates.

  • Best way to organise multiple large clips and hundreds of subclips

    Situation
I have the task of producing a suite of short 2 minute videos comprising highlights of several hours of footage in multiple large files.
I want to extract and manage the highlights in a non-destructive way and organise them according to subject matter.
I would then use these in several projects to create the highlights videos required.
I am using Adobe CC, so it's CS6.
My approach so far is to:
    1. Import all the footage into a single project as individual large clips
    2. Scrub through each clip, set in/outs and extract to subclip, store in subject matter bin
    My questions:
    1.  if I go back to the original footage and edit it, it doesn't seem to flow through to the subclips. How do I make the subclips inherit the attributes of their parent? (e.g. could be sound, colour, etc)
    2. how do I access these highlights bins from another project?
    3. is this the best way to handle my situation?
    Thanks for your input.
    Ric

I suppose applying the effects to the source clip and rendering out a new source file is one way of doing it.  Just be very careful that you don't compress the output.  And, of course, it will double the amount of hard drive space.  I'd still make all the sub-clips first and use the "paste attributes" command.  I think you can even lasso a whole bunch of clips and paste attributes to all of them at once (they have to be in the timeline, though - not the project panel).
It shouldn't take an awful lot of hard drive space to duplicate projects.  Just duplicate the "prproj" file, not the whole projects folder (and certainly not the source material).
Here's a screen shot of my set-up for a complicated, 5-camera shoot of a play:
The original project (syncing all the cameras up) is 1 MB, each successive archive gets a little bigger but the current project is only 3.8 MB.  I would imagine if you are deleting bins and sequences for the mini-projects, the prproj file would actually get smaller than the original master.
Okay.. so here's the mantra about non-tape based video... First you back up the card (including the complete folder structure) onto an archive drive.  Next you copy this folder onto an external or RAID or other "real" archive drive.  Then (and only then) do you start editing the material!
Ideally, you need at least three, physically separate harddrives (not partitions) in an editing station (this is true Windows or Mac).  One drive for the operating system and applications only (no media or projects or anything!).  One for working projects (each project in its own folder) where everything except the source video is stored.  And finally one for the source video.  On my system my OS drive is Tardis ('cuz I'm a geek!).  I have a Projects drive for projects (duh!) a Scratch drive for working video files and an Archive for "finished" projects waiting delivery and back-back-ups of my SD cards.

  • Best way to show multiple copies of same data to different users

    Hi,
I am new to configuring and using Oracle. I have an oracle db installed on a server machine and I loaded it with a set of data. I have multiple users who would all like to access the tables but they need to see unique copies of the data.
What is my best approach? Should I create a new database instance? If so what is the best way to copy data to the new instance?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Each developer should copy from the 'base' schema to his own the tables he requires to do his work. Give each developer select privileges on the 'base schema' tables so he cannot change them. This way, the developer can refresh his data as needed on his own. Public synonyms for the base schema tables will enable developers to only have to copy tables they wish to modify.
Creating a separate fully loaded schema for each developer is going to create a never ending load of work for you as developers will be constantly asking you to refresh their schemas. Alternatively, you could create an export of production on a schedule and let the developers do the import to their schema when they wish.
Basically, these folks are developers and, IMNSHO, should be managing their own development schemas.
