Best way to coordinate two blocks?

I want to coordinate two blocks. Block A shows info about people who have come in recently. Block B shows if they
have had some certain paperwork filed.
So for each record in block A there may or may not be an entry in Block B. I want the data to match up horizontally
from block A through Block B.
(and then eventually when the user clicks on button a missing record in block B it will fill in the details from various places in the database and the new entry(ies) in Block B can be saved back to Table B. )
It escapes me how to do this. Any ideas? If B is a detail table to block A then it does not provide blank records
where B does not have an entry for A yet.
example
block A           Block B
id  came in        id  paperwork
22 2/1/2012     22  paperwork done
3 2/2/2012                                   (paperwork not done yet so B record missing)
14 2/3/2012     14 paperwork done
11 2/4/2012                                    (paperwork not done yet so B record missing)Edited by: lake on Feb 16, 2012 4:45 PM

No it doesn't work to just have two blocks side by side.
There is no way to coordinate them. In my experience with the master-detail relationship you can define, it does not have multi block to multi
block capability. it's geared to one master key in the master block, not multiple master keys. But it would be a really great feature if
there were a multi-master-detail capability! right?
If you don't do the relationship thing but have the same type of query restrictions for each block, in block B there are no gaps for the cases
a B record does not exist for an A record, i.e. the primary keys do not line up "horizontally".
Although I think Andreas is correct that creating a view solves a lot of problems I'd like
to proceed on emulating the multi-master-detail scenario if I can in the form.

sitecopy in AUR may be helpful (http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=11319).  You may also want to look at conduit and multisync-gui in AUR.

I hear archlinux.de will be in English as a replacement...
    Thanks for that!
Also, I sure hope there will be an English site. There are many Germans who know English, but not many non-Germans know German. It was a stupid move to switch to German as an official language.

  • What's the best way to keep two hard dives synced?

I've been looking at the best way to protect my data and I've learned a few things. My first thought was RAID but a bit more research showed RAID is not a fix-all. It has it's own problems and even if I use a RAID1 or RAID10 array (depending on the number of drives) a failure in one drive can actually set off another drive, killing multiple drives and still destroying my data. There are a few other issues I've seen, such as the way you need to manage a RAID system that don't overly appeal to me.
So what I'm thinking now is two separate hard drives that are synced in some manner. Both of these drives are going to be sitting on the back of my iMac at all times so there's no real worry about their needing to be connected to back up. The question is how best to do it?
    So far my options are:
Chronosync: Software wise, I know this can sync across drives and as such has been something that interests me. However, I'm not sure how powerful it is and I'm still curious about how I would have to use it.
SuperDuper: Same thing as Chronosync, really, just a different piece of software.
Rsync: To be honest, this is the one that interests me the most. I need to look into it a bit more I'm starting to think this might be a great choice for me. With some caveats.
Basically, here are the things I'm going to use it for:
Two 3–4 TB HDDs or RAID0 arrays.
Storing of general project archives, images, documents, movies, music, that kind of thing.
Possibly for system backup with Time Machine.
Now, how I'd prefer it to work is:
I keep both hard drives plugged in via FireWire cables.
Ideally, whenever I edit, add or delete a file on one hard drive the change is immediately made to the other.
Once the syncing is set up I never touch it again, don't have to.
The only time I ever have to come back to it is if I'm swapping out one or both of the drives for larger ones.
All of this is controlled by some sort of GUI
I'm willing to accept terminal commands if I have to... But I'd really prefer not to. Also, if the syncing has to be done every hour or once a day or some other similar schedule I'm willing to accept that as well, though it's not preferred.
So that's what I'm looking at doing. I'd love to hear what you guys think.

True, it's not technically backup in the traditional sense. What I'm looking for is data protection and redundancy, which is a factor of backups. So in that sense it kind of is, but I see your point.
Anyway, the reason I'm avoiding RAID is because:
    1. It can be a pain to manage.
    2. It's horribly inflexible.
    3. It's protection is limited.
    4. It brings it's own set of hazards.
    5. RAID arrays can be very expensive once they start getting complex.
I will likely end up going RAID partially in the end simply because I have a 2 TB external and it's filling fast. I can grab a 3 TB now but I've heard reliability issues so instead I'm thinking two 4TB (2x2TB) RAID0 arrays that I sync.
This gives me the benefit of RAID in a simple form, which bypasses the larger array complexities, while leaving me still fully protected and highly flexible. It also doesn't have the inherent risks of RAID because if one of the arrays goes down it will in no way effect the other.
Honestly, I'm not worried about file changes. At all. I'm the only one who's touching the files (well, not true, but everyone else only has read-access). I also tend to not delete things (which is why I have a 2 TB drive that's filling fast). Expansion is my main concern and RAID expansion can be a nightmare unless you go for some of the more expensive systems that are easier to manage. With ease of management comes a hefty price.

  • Best way to sync two Macs?

I recently got a new iMac, which means I now run Mac OS X Lion on an iMac as well as on a MacBook Pro. This means I now need to keep the two machines in sync. I am finding that although iCloud takes care of my calendar, photos, and contacts, it is not useful when it comes to documents and other data. Could someone please suggest the best way of keeping the two Macs in sync?

    Sorry No.
I don't have a need for such syncing.
But the app is around for quite some time and they have a time-limited Trial version.

  • What is the best way to allow two designers, working in different locations, to have access to the same muse site?

I'm trying to figure out the best way to share access to a muse site so that two different designers can be responsible for different features of the site. e.g., one is responsible for photo galleries, the other is responsible for shopping cart. Is there a way to do this?

    Please check the following thread,
How can multiple users from different locations access my Muse website files to update them?

  • Is Time Machine the best way to backup two external drives?

I only have the most basic understanding of Time Machine.  I hook up an external drive to my MacBook Pro, click "backup now" on Time Machine, wait a while, and forget about it because I've never had to use it to retrieve a file - thank heaven.
Now I also have two external 2TB portable drives that are close to full and which need to be backed up.  I just bought a 4TB drive that I haven't taken out of the box yet.  Is it a simple matter to create two Time Machine files on the 4TB drive ... one for each of the 2TB drives?
And is Time Machine the best way to do this?  Or is there some other system that makes more sense for backing up on this scale and with two drives?
    -JOHN

No Time Machine is not the only way.
You can use one of the drive cloning softeare programs to clone your internal drive to an external or you can use OS X Disk Utility to do basically the same thing, IE Clone/Copy your internal drive to an external.
But in your case it look as if the upgrading of the iPhoto database has wiped out alll your images. What you are actually asking about is "Can you now get back those photos without first doing any backup of any type".
And the answer to that is No you can not.

  • Best way to drive two stereo amplifie

I am running a Dell Dimension 8400, 3.4 mhz using Windows Vista. I have a Soundblaster Audigy SE card in it. Coming out of the green jack I have a y adapter into RCA jacks to a Sony stereo (two speaker) amplifier. This has worked just fine for me. I now want to dri've a duplicate Sony stereo (two speaker) amplifier from the same computer. I want the output from the computer to dri've both amplifiers with identical output at all times. What is the best way to do this? The current sound card has three line outs, but only the first one seems to work. Can I simultaneoudly make the others behave the same way (just a left and a right), or are they just for 5. or 7. systems? Or should/can I add a second Audigy card to the system? Or should I get a different card that can support what I want to do? Open to all suggestions. Thanks in advance.

On XP systems, this what you want there is done by
    - connect the one into Front L/R (LineOut ) and the other into Rear L/R (LineOut 2)?
    - set the speaker mode to multichannel (4/4. (or 6/6.))
    - enable CMSS w/ stereo surround.
I don't have Vista in use so, maybe you check if this is the way to go w/ it as well.

  • Best Way To Configure Two Companies

I have two separate companies with each one having different calendars and different contacts (one with 985 contacts and the other with 35 and growing fast.).  What would be the best way to set these up so that I can sync my BB 8330 with my ACT database(s) and keep them together, yet separated when I need to share specific info with my employees in both entities?  Can you have 2 simultaneous, yet separate, databases on a Blackberry?  I could throw in Outlook's calendar if this would help?
    Thank you!
    Del

Well the BlackBerry only supports 1 database (1 calendar, 1 address book, etc). So all of the entries would be combined when you looked at them on the BlackBerry

  • What is the best way off using two external harddrives with timemachine?

    Hi,
I have already searched the board but I am still not sure what the best way is to backup to two harddisk.
Here is what I want to achieve:
I have two identical external firewire drives. One is always stored at my parents house. I swap drives once a week +(not perfect, should be everyday but much better than nothing).+
Before TimeMachine I have used SuperDuper which made incremental backups on both disks.
Due to my "method" I never have both drives at home. So it will not work to clone the external disks.
Can I now simply swap the drives and TimeMachine will backup again on disk 2, what it has already backupped to disk 1? Like "catching up" the now missing backups for the last week?
Should I give the disks the same names or should I choose "change disk" everytime?
I appreciate any suggestions and experiences.
    Best Regards
    Olaf

    Hi Olaf,
Germany . . . hmmm, nice talking to you!
OK - We seem to have a lot in common. I used SuperDuper all the time too. Loved it. NEVER had a problem at all with it. Ever!
I use Carbon Copy Cloner now - it seems a bit erratic - sometimes fails, sometimes works, can't find the pattern.
    But enough of that.
YES - Time Machine will do exactly what you want (or does for me, at least.)
I named the two drives the same name and bounced back and forth between them, Time Machining to each. Works PERFECTLY every time . . . BUT - you MUST go to TM preferences each time and click "change disk". Simply reclick the one it sees. This seems stupid - but it's worked every time for me so far. So this morning, I simple renamed one of the backup drives (from Finder). Simple renamed it.
Went directly to TM with the renamed disk - clicked "change disk" - he instantly "saw" the newly named disk - and it Time Machined perfectly to the "newly named" one. I didn't even have to re time machine the entire drive - it picked up perfectly and backed up only 50 meg, which is all I changed!
So Time Machine seems to work perfectly backing up to two hard drives, with either the same name, or different names - TM doesn't care. But you MUST simple click "change disk" each time.
Let me know how it works for you. It really does work for me!

  • Best way to connect two fact tables when no conformed dimension exists

Can anyone please elaborate how would I connect two fact table without any conformed dimension. Let say FACTA, FACTB. FACTB is related to a dimension "StatusDim". I want to select the count of all FACTA item which are related to FACTB items with
a particular status. I have found the following article but just wondering whether it is the best practise to connect two fact tables directly.
    http://bifuture.blogspot.com/2011/11/ssas-selecting-facts-with-reference.html
    Thank you

    Hi Ahsan,
After read the blog you posted, I think it's a pretty good solution to create a view in the relational database or a named query in the Data Source View containing as the the columns in FACTA and FACTB. Then build a dimension from it, setting the "Null processing"
property (you have to click the "plus" two times for the "Key Columns" property of the attribute in BIDS to access this property) to "UnknownMember". And then use this dimension for the many-to-many relationship. Dimensions from FactA can benefit of the reference
relationship between FactA and FactB and therefore a powerful solution it is.

  • Best way to synch two iPhones with two different Outlooks on one computer?

Both my wife and I have iPhones. Currently, only I synch the contacts and calendar with Outlook because I'm scared that my wife's iPhone will overwrite all my data. I haven't even set up her Outlook because I don't know the best way to do this in such a way that would allow us both to synch. Since all our music is under my iTunes, would I have to set her outlook in my login, or could I do it in such a way that she logs in to her user profile (in Vista) and then into her own Outlook profile? If she has a separate user account (in Vista) do I need to set up a separate iTunes and duplicate my music library?

    Hey HatoriHanzo,
iTunes will only sync contacts and calendars from the default Outlook profile. So if you make her profile the default profile before syncing it will only sync contact and calendars from her profile. By switching the default profile you can both use the same user account.
You can also setup iTunes to share the music between multiple user accounts.

  • What is the best way to sync two computers

I have my work computer and my home computer and I would like my photos and work I do on one show up on the other and vice versa. What is the best way to accomplish this?
    Thanks
    Mike

Lightroom wasn't designed to do this.
The workaround that works the best from Lightroom's point of view is to put your catalog file and all photos on an external HD and move this external HD back and forth. Of course, the drawback is that you have to carry the external HD with you.
Some people have experimented with putting the catalog file in the cloud, and photos on a shared network drive, so both computers can access everything. This has certain disadvantages, particularly if you use the catalog on one computer before it has synchronized from the other computer; and you can search these forums for details.

  • What is the best way to keep the block diagram/ front panel clean?

    Hello,
I am relatively new to Labview so I'm not able to tell if I'm overcomplicating my programs or making my block diagram too cluttered. I was wondering if there were some ways to tell whether I could simplify my programming just by looking at it (perhaps only experience helps for these things) ?
I have attached my VI here. Currently, it has the capability to monitor the voltage and current from two motors. On display, you can see a indicator with the voltage and current values and there are charts toward the bottom that can display waveforms from different motors with a drop down menu.
The front panel is rather clean in my novice opinion, but the block diagram seems messy to me, just at first glance. I foresee a problem occuring in the future however. In the future, I will have to scale the VI to monitor 50 motors. All the programming will be the same as the one I have now, except it will have 50 indicators and unfortunately 50 times pretty much everything. I would like to avoid this, but I'm not sure how I could.
I am using a USB 6009. I am using its four differential inputs to monitor the voltage and current of two motors. In the future, I will be getting more DAQ units (25 total because 2 motors can be monitored for each DAQ). The new DAQs will help will help with more resource space, but I think complicate things with the additional potential of 24 more DAQ Assistants (as used in my code).
Thanks for any help you might be able to provide!

It usually is mainly experience that will teach you the best methods to make your code look pretty. I don't know anyone who is proud of their first from-scratch application. There are a few resources out there to help with best practices, like this group on ni.com, but you'll learn the most from your own development.
Your front panel looks great. FPs in general are really up to you. You can make it look as ugly or pretty as you want. When you have some duplicate controls and indicator groups, you should utilize clusters and arrays to simplify. You could use a little bit of cleanup in that regard, but not much. Also, personally, I hate reading red text unless it's a warning of some sort.
Your block diagram could use some cleanup in a modularity sense. You have a lot of repeated code, which you could consolidate in to a subVI that is used in multiple locations, or in a For loop. A general rule of thumb is to keep your block diagram within a single monitor. You shouldn't have to scroll. Your application is pretty simple, so it's hard to mess it up
Here are some specifics about your block diagram:
Right click your terminals on the block diagram and uncheck "View As Icon". You're welcome.
Duplicate operations on each waveform "(x*2-4)/16": create subVI and/or run the waveforms through a For loop.
You do a lot of 2-element arrays and then indexing. Just replace those with a Select node based on the numeric.
All of your code is running every time, including your property nodes at the bottom, which is unnecessary. As you learn LabVIEW architectures, you will learn how to bypass this with initialization and exiting code, but for now you should put a case structure around those for only when the motor numbers change.
I'm not sure how you're timing your main loop, but you should put a delay in there because you don't need the DAQmx node to be pulling as fast as your CPU will allow.
There are free intro videos you can watch to learn what NI would suggest in terms of coding and teach you some of the basic features and such. Here's a three hour course, and here's a six hour course.
