BEWARE OF ADOBES NEW COPY PROTECTION SOFTWARE  IT CAN SERIOUSLY HARM YOUR COMPUTER

Beware of Adobes new copy protection software it can seriously harm your computer!
The FlexNet licensing software that is installed on your computer along with CS3 and CS4, and possibly other, products has the capacity to seriously harm your system. It seems that it relies on some sort of insidious rootkit technology, which hides files on your hard drive. The trouble is that it is not robust and, if it gets broken, has the capacity to render your computer unusable by any product that uses this technology unless and until the hard drive is completely reformatted and everything properly reinstalled. Given that we all pay good money to prevent this doomsday scenario occurring in our computers, this should be unacceptable.
In particular, anyone who thinks that they can rely on disk imaging technology as a means of backing up or migrating system drives containing installations of Adobe CS3/4 should think again. Adobes new software and activation technology does not support disk cloning, and the result of using it is likely to render your computer permanently unusable, at least by Adobe products.
I know this because it has happened to me. My computer completely freezes suddenly anytime during or after running CS3. After spending some time investigating the problem, Adobe came up with the following astonishing response:
]"We have gone through all the material and logs once again, and came to the conclusion, the problem was in fact caused by cloning your hard drive. What happened is, that the FlexNet service, the service responsible for the activation and licensing of the product, has been damaged. Cloning our products is not supported by our products, and was therefore not tested either. The problem is, there are leftovers of the last Photoshop. installation's FlexNet files present in your system. To make matters worse, these files are well hidden, to protect our programs from piracy. Therefore, they can't be removed. Since a deactivation and reinstallation were already done to no avail, the only thing that's left to do, is a complete reformatting of your harddrive. We are very sorry to have to tell you this, but it really is the only option left.
Kind regards,
Adobe Technical Support"
Needless to say I am hopping mad! The implication that the problem is somehow my fault for daring to clone my hard drives is absurd! Disk imaging is a perfectly legitimate way of backing up and restoring or migrating hard drives and what they seem to be saying is that disk imaging as a backup & restore solution does not work with Adobe and Macromedia products. If this is so, a warning to this effect should be writ large on all of them.
To top it all, Adobes abdication of responsibility shows a blatant disregard for their paying customers. They have rolled out a technology that, by their own admission, has not been fully tested and which has the potential to inflict irrevocable harm on their customers computer systems as a result. (Even Microsoft would not dare to try to get away with such a thing!) They have done this to protect their software from piracy and thus to protect their revenue stream. Fine, but they should do this at their own expense, not at the expense of their loyal paying customers, and, when things do go wrong, they should be willing and able to provide a fix. If Adobe lose these paying customers, the piracy issue becomes irrelevant! (If you ask me, a far more elegant solution to the piracy problem would be to lower the price of the software, which is absurdly over-priced, certainly here in the UK.)
As a loyal customer and user of Photoshop virtually from day one, I do expect better than this. For the first time since I took up digital photography, I am looking for a different photo editing solution. I certainly do not think that any more of my hard earned cash will be heading in Adobes direction, at least until this is sorted out.

It is possible that cloning will work for some, maybe, for example, if done between identical disks. Adobe are saying that they do not guarantee that it will; and sometimes it won't.
However that is beside the point. Microsoft, bless their socks, have gone to great lengths to produce an operating system, which, for all its faults, is robust. If something gets broken, it will, 9 times out of 10 repair itself, and what remains is always fixable, once the problem is identified. It is amazing just how much abuse XP can take and still function.
Now Adobe has come along and done something that negates all of that. They have introduced a technology, that, once broken, cannot be fixed. That goes against the principles that everyone else has been working towards.
At the moment, few people may be affected (maybe more than Adobe care to admit to, and perhaps some who do not yet know that they are) but software users need to be wary of the thin end of the wedge. If all software vendors did similar things and played fast and loose with the basic fabric of the operating and file systems, all computers would soon be reduced to piles of junk.
That is why it is wrong.
Until Microsoft themselves support 3rd party product licensing and activation within the operating system, Adobe should hold off on this.

  • Copy Protection Software - help!

Can anybody help. I played an EMI (Blue Note) CD on my Mac, now I can't burn any discs (even data files). When the CD is inserted two icons come up - one has all the software in it. There's an .exe file to remove the software which is automatically installed - but this doesn't work (being an .exe file). The CD says it works on Mac and PC, but well, obviously something is wrong.
When I try to burn a CD it goes wrong at the verification stage and puts up an error code 3 message. I have managed to burn a CD by reducing the burn speed to 2x - but it barely played, kept stopping and the sound quality was awaful..
    Help!!

    Hi Petesant,
Looks like Sony EMI copy protection rears it's ugly head once again. I'm not sure but I think these are the right names. Look for these two files: PhoenixNub1.kext and PhoenixNub12.kext. Try moving them to the trash, restart and repair permissions. See if that helps. If it does and your sure nothing else is acting up then you can delete the files at that point.

  • How to copy files from an iPad app to your computer?

I thought I'd post this since the online help leaves out a step and this might be confusing to other users as well.
To export a file from the iPad to your computer, you need to first "Export" the file (at least in Pages you need to). To do this you:
    1. Select *My Documents* in the upper left (if you're in the file on the iPad)
    2. Select the Transfer icon at the bottom of the screen
    3. Select Export
    4. Select the *File Format* you want
    5. Go to *iTunes > Apps > File Sharing* (at the bottom of the page)
    6. Select your *App (Pages)* -- +You may need to re-select this. The first time I copied the file (even after the above) it still copied the old file (weird). Re-selecting refreshes the file list on the right. You can check the date stamp of the file as well.+
    7. *Drag and drop the file* to your desktop from iTunes (this is the step the online help describes, but it leaves out the export step above.
    I hope this helps...
+(A note to Apple: You should make file sharing easier. Maybe move the function to the tools menu in all your apps. I'd suggest this is where people expect Export, Mail, and Print functions to be...)+

  • HT201274 attempted to download new ios 6 software. wiped out sim card and computer doesn't recognize iphone now. blinking apple icon is only thing I get

Need help with iphone 4. tried to download new software and it zorked sim card and phone. Only get a blinking apple icon. Computer doesn't recognize iphone so I can't restore

    Hello henry lfrommiami,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
To troubleshoot this issue where your iPhone gives you the message "No SIM Card installed" please follow the steps below.
Update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS.
Turn airplane mode on and then off again.
    Restart your iPhone.
Check for a carrier settings update. Go to Settings > General > About. Install any available update.
Remove the SIM card and make sure that it's a valid SIM that your carrier provided. Also make sure that it's not damaged, worn, or modified. Then reinsert it.
A SIM tray that comes with one iPhone model won't necessarily work with a different iPhone model. When you insert the correct SIM tray, the SIM tray should be flush with the device.
If you have another SIM card, insert it. You can use a SIM card from any phone with the same format as your iPhone SIM card. If your iPhone works with that SIM card, contact the carrier that issued your original SIM card.
    Restore the iPhone.
If you still see the issue, contact Apple support.
If you see 'No SIM' alert on iPhone
    Cheers,
    Alex H.

  • How does a document down load get a zipper and make a new copy?            py i can"t open? i don't even know what the zipper means help

why does a document get a zipper on it, I downloaded it I don't know why it's "zipped" when I try to open it it make another copy I can't open what is the problem what did I do to cause this?

Zip is a method of compressing files for archiving, and is often used for downloading large files or installers.
Double-clicking the Zip file should unzip it, leaving the original file nearby on the dektop (or in whatever folder you downloaded to).
If the Mac's built-in tool can't open it, obtain Stuffit Expander from http://www.stuffit.com/mac-expander.html  That will open most forms of compressed files.

Why do I keep getting a message that my new iMac is not compatible to download Mountain Lion OS? How do I fix that?

If so, your only way to download is to use the recovery method (hit keys Command + R while restarting). Can't use the app store.
Why are you trying to download?

When it freezes and the spinning wheel occurs:
1: Does it occur upon booting the computer?
2: Does it occur when surfing the web or using the internet (checking email)?
3: Does it occur when your offline? Not connected to the internet.
4: Does it occur when you log into another user account?
5: Does it occur only with certain program(s)? Does it occur in another user account with the same program?
6: Does it occur seemingly at random? Reading a certain file?
If you don't have a copy of your personal users folder(s) on a external drive, I would be doing that as soon as possible. (in addition to a TimeMachine drive if you have it)
I suspect either your drive is failing or you have bad sectors on the drive, or it could be a network issue, becuase the spinning beach ball of death (SBOD) is typical of the computer trying to do something and getting stuck for some reason.
If the data your trying to access is on failing sectors on the hard drive, it will beach ball trying to read it, if this occurs a lot in many places many times, your drive is typically failing. However if just here or there, it could be fixed.
If your accessing the internet  it may beach ball if there is a network related issue.
It may be a corrupt cache file someplace, which clearing all of them out and rebuilding the caches would make the computer appear to run faster when it's really only back to normal.

I am trying to reauthorize my computer to play music I purchased from itunes under an old apple id. When I changed my ID I could no longer play anything I purchased previously but I can't find how to get apple (or my computer) to recognize that its my music. • My (relatively) new MBP is stuck in restart mode.  "your computer is already restarting" HELP PLEASE.

I have noticed when I restart my computer, the finder gets stuck and there are no icons on my desktop.  If I restart, they will usually come back.
I am still paying off my MBP which cost nearly 2k.  I was going to upgrade to Apple Care as soon as it's paid off next month.  Unfortunately, the 90  day "complimentary" phone support expired last month and my MBP is now stuck in restart mode.  If i click on the keyboard restart button, I get "Your computer is already restarting".  It's been like this for 15 minutes so it looks stuck.
    Can someone please help?

If I click on itunes or mail, it cancels the restart but still no icons on desktop and still unable to restart or shut down.
Please help, someone.  I don't know how to restart this thing...
I'm on Mavericks if that helps (I also had upgraded to Yosemite and had audio interface problems so reverted back to a TM backup which is when this started)
If I attempt the command + R, the computer will make this clicking noise over and over...
It's clearly stuck.  What can I do?

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard Software Link to Download

I bought a new computer.  The other one broke.  My new one doesn't have a disk drive.  I still have my Adobe Acrobat 9 standard software but can't install it without a link.  I have my key too.  I just need to download it from the website but it isn't available.  Help.

John is correct.  Jenmommy you can copy the installation files on a computer which does have an optical drive to a USB drive.  You can then install from the USB drive.  I would also recommend you store the installation files in a protected location in case you need them again in the future.

  • HD Copy Protection?

I want to connect my Apple 23" display (since it's HD) to my HD cable box. My box says my monitor doesn't support HD copy protection. How can I either bypass this or is it enable able on my monitor?

The Gefen HD Mate Scaler might do it. Its DVI input is HDCP compliant.
    <http://www.gefen.com/kvm/product.jsp?prod_id=4173>
Check with Gefen to see if the HDCP works with a non-HDCP DVI display attached. The movie industry would rather it didn't. If it doesn't, you may be able to use it with the analog video outputs of your cable box. Check to see if they provide HD.

  • How do you re-authorize your computer - different Adobe ID?

    I need to re-authorize.
I have a nook. I set up an Adobe ID, then downloaded ADE and set it up with my adobe ID.
I go to google's e bookstore, download free books, transfer to nook, no prob.
THEN I BUY a book from google's e-bookstore and it will not transfer to nook.
The only thing I can figure is that my google account is set up under a different email address so I go back to adobe, change my ID, uninstall ADE / restart computer / install ADE again, and it still says my computer is authorized to the old ID.
    How do you change this?

You can de-authorize your computer by opening Adobe Digital Editions and pressing crtrl-shift-d. You should then be able to re-authorize with your new ID.
One other thing to try is to de-authorize your Nook first (open ADE, press ctrl-shift-e), deauthorize the computer, then reauthorize the computer, then reauthorize the Nook. I have gotten some feedback from some friends that when they authorized their device before they authorized their computer that they sometimes had problems, so make sure you re-authorize your computer first.
