Bex Query using BICS running fine in Rich client but v. slow in Launchpad
Hi guys,
At my client client we are using BICS to use Bex Query in Web Intellience, and i created a report that takes less than 10 seconds once run in Rich client but when i create the same Webi report in Launch pad: the list of values take forever to refesh and the report runs for about 30 mins before it displays data..
In both cases it shows data but the time difference is huge.
Kindly direct me on what could be the possible issues considering this case.
Regards,
Sheikh
Hi Sheikh,
There are some known issues with the BICS connectivity and LOV's when retreiving data in BI4.0
This is detailed in the note - 1581323 - BI 4.0 Web Intelligence very slow performance when using BICS
Basically there are some registry changes which need to be made to result in quicker data retreival. The full fix is scheduled for Patch 2.1. It may not be your precise issue but the registry change should help I believe.
Can you test with the registry fix and let me know if this improves matters for you:
Resolution
The following fix is planned for Patch2.1 (w/c 27th June 2011):
Add 2 new registry entries (string keys) under
For the 32-bit using Rich Client: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\SAP BusinessObjects\Suite XI 4.0\default\WebIntelligence\Calculator]:
For the 64-bit Web Intelligence:[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SAP BusinessObjects\Suite XI 4.0\default\WebIntelligence\Calculator]
"BICSLOVChunkSize"="4000"
"BICSResultChunkSize"="100000"
Note 1: In a specific test case, a value of 4000 yielded good results, reducing fetch time from 20 minutes to under 5 minutes.
Note 2: Registry key usage:
BICSLOVChunkSize is defined as a string. It help create a chunk of List of Value of maximum the number given. The bigger the number the more likely the retrieval of the list of value will crash. Consider using a value between 100 and 5000. If you have 1000 values in your database and you set the BICSLOVChunkSize to 200. Then you will see a hierarchical view of 5 groups having eah 200 list of value.
BICSResultChunkSize is defined as a string. It limits the number of results that can be retrieved as a List of Value. If you have a List of Value which contains 1 Millions values and set the BICSResultChunkSize to 1000 than only the first 1000 rows will be retrieved. Therefore you will get a partial result set for the list of value.
Parallel correction for interoperability:
A parallel fix has been delivered via component BW-BEX-OT-BICS by way of a correction attached to Note 1593802.
Workaround:
Set all the values of column u201COrder for F4 Helpu201D to 0 (zero) in BW Transaction RSD1 so that the attributes are not retrieved.
-> List of members are now displayed in 20 seconds.
I hope this is a very helpful answer to you.
Kind regards,
John

Crystal Reports with BEx Query using Custom Exit Variable
Hi,
We have BW BEx Query using Customer User Exit variable to derive the Fiscal Week for Last Year (called it VAR2) based on another user input variable Current Fiscal Week (called it VAR1).
VAR2 is derived from VAR1 in CMOD via some codings and thus it DOES NOT have the "Variable is Ready for Input" flag ticked in the BEx. VAR1 is user input variable, so it has "Variable is Ready for Input" flag ticked in the BEx.
When we create a Crystal Reports with the BEx Query using variable VAR2, and when we run it we got an error message saying "Failed to execute query; '[]<java.lang.UnsupportedOperationException: No Selection State Support!ZP_MI_LYPUBWEEK>'. Redesign your query or contact the data source maintainer to solve the problem". (note: ZP_MI_LYPUBWEEK is VAR2 in this case).
Could anyone please assist? Surely, CR supports BEx customer user exit variables like the above, right?. I also refer to the forum below as it seems to have a similar issue (except mine with an error message), but it does not provide a solution in it.
Crystal Reports with BEx Query using Custom Exit Variable
Thanks,
AndyHi Vibhav,
We have the SAP Crystal Reports for Enterprise XI4.0 Version 14.0.0. Not sure if SP0 or other SP, got to check with Basis Team later.
We tried that "mandatory" option and did not work either.
Anyway, SAP has now come back again saying it is something they will fix it in next release/version. We got a phone call from them and a reply below to our OSS.
23.08.2011 - 08:20:49 CET - Info for Customer by SAP
I have raised this issue on the Idea#s Place as an enhancement request
on the below link:
https://cw.sdn.sap.com/cw/ideas/5586
This ER contains the information of including the customer exit
variables in the report without checking the #input for ready# option.
This ER can be considered for being implemented in the future
versions. You can refer to SAP Note: 1515837 - How To: Enhancement
Request Process - "Idea Place" for more information regarding the Idea

Bex Query is continuously running
Hi all,
one of our Bex Query is continuously running so long, but when i rename and run the same query it is working fine.
i cleared all the cash, but still problem is existing.
please help me to short this out
Thanks
MiranaHi Mirana,
After long run you are getting out putcorrect?
Run same your query in RSRT with debugmode and on statistical data.
After execution you will see the satistical data then you will come to where exactly your query is taking time.
Hope it will help.

Same exact update runs fine in one db but causes ORA-00904 in another
I have an update statement that runs fine in one db but causes "" error in another. The two databases table structures are the same. i have an imac g4 purchased Dec 2003 runnung OS 10.5.8. It runs fine with airport off, but when I turn airport on it freezes with the black page, "restart by holding power key . . ." I swapped the airport extreme card with the one in my ibook G4 (purchased same date and running same OS). No change in operation.
I am running wifi from verizon. Recently changed from mifi2200 to jetpak 4620 in a 3G location. Ibook running fine, desktop freezes. If I can boot desktop in safe mode and get airport turned off in time. then I can reboot regularly and imac runs flawlessly with no wireless.Have run disk utilities and TechTool Pro rebuild etc, but nothing has worked. How do I fine the culprit?the power logix thing was really sad. apple changed so much after 10.4.8 that there wasn't a viable way to patch the software.
That statement is precisely why I don't believe in blindly updating the OS, especially in a non-standard machine.
We can't expect third parties to support us forever, and it is shameful to break something that works fine, except that we updated the OS....
I think that any upgrade or modification to a machine or the OS greatly increases the risk of trouble or incompatibility with current configuration and "new" system files.
After all, the component or software could only be tested as far as the current OS version when the component or software was released.
Beyond that, we are all "beta testing".
Following a beta tester protocol, and applying updates to a cloned system drive first, is a prudent way to approach updates, and not only for older, heavily modified machines.
After 10.4.8 and moreso with Leopard, the focus is primarily on Intel architecture, not PPC architecture.
Like it or not, we are all updating to the abyss of the extinction of our machines, unless we can be satisfied with the last stable version of OS that works well with our hardware and software.
I wish they would include the latest pkgs at least with software update.
Yes, having individual packages, rather than lump "OS X 10.x.x" updates would be nice.
This way, one could update as one sees fit. That is to say, for example, fix the Quicktime, but leave my Network alone, etc., etc.
In all fairness, Apple does provide for some breakdown of updates, but I believe there is much room for improvement, especially, as you point out, with regard to the core services portion of the OS.
Until then, I'll leave Software Update disabled....... -
I can't seem to run my Playlist under Yahoo Music.. it runs fine with IE 9 but not Firefox 4 .... any idea why? I can run a single song just not my playlist.
Thanks.Had this problem for quite a while but found a work-a-round. I click anywhere in the text I want to delete and insert any character. I am then able to block and delete any text I want to. It's been working great.

Hi,
I transported webi documents + universe from a development server (BI 4.1. SP2) to a test server (same release). I can open the documents with the WEBI rich client, but I am unable to open them with the launch pad (error ...opendocument' api. (error err_wis_30270)).
Does anyone have a clue where there could be a difference in the settings that cause this behaviour?
Thanks,
Sandra.Can you check this KB?

Please advice me on below:
One query is running fine on 11gr2 database with having 2GB SGA and cost of the running query is 15, but the same query is running from long time in other database having same 2GB SGA.

Bex Query- Use of ABAP code in Calculated Keyfigure/formula
Dear Experts.
I am wondering if there is any way to use ABAP in the formula editor of the Bex Query desinger.
I have to build a report with very complex formulas (a lot of key figures, comporations, If then else ) an I think it would be easier to build all then in ABAP.
So what I am looking for is any kind of user-exit/Badi that allows to calculate a Calculated Key figure/fomula in ABAP with the same data that is availabe in the fomula editor.
If SAP is not providing this, this is clearlly a must for next releases.
Thanks a lot and best regards,
Alfonso.Dear Ananda.
Thnaks for your reply, but could you please extend your answer a little bit more?
As far as I know, Formula customer exit variables are only called once and they don´t provide the rest of the keyfigures and characteristic use in the drilldown level, so for my needs they are useless.
Regarding IF-then-else statement in the formula, I already know about it. Actually what I am trying to avoid is to use them. In order to build my query I might need to build really big formulas with a lot of If-then-else, making it quite complex what the formula is doing. This is the reson I want to do it on ABAP.
Please any other ideas?
Thanks a lot. -
#UNAVAILABLE in WebI with BEx Query via BICS over ECC
dear all
i have a very simple problem to explain.
when i try to use =Month([Flight date]) function, my key figure returns #UNAVAILABLE
that's it !
of course, without the function, the key figures are good, but i get every darn date, but that is not what i want. i want to sum up the amounts for each of the months.
when responding, please be mindful that there is no universe here, as it is via BICS.
thanks
ghi sven
it is a date field, in fact it is a time dimension. so no problems there, but i tried this to test
=ToDate([Flight date];"dd/mm/yyyy")
this function works but does not help my scenario as i already have the full date and it did not group at all, but the interesting thing here, is that i lost my measure to #UNAVAILABLE.
i thought i would try
=ToDate([Flight date];"mm/yyyy")
which gave #ERROR in the field and still #UNAVAILABLE in the measure. i guess you must have the "d" in there somewhere.
i then tried to proove the [Flight date] is recognized as a date by doing
=IsDate([Flight date])
the records came back with 1, which proves they are recognized as a date. so i cannot use subst as it requires a string. but this is going down the wrong path anyway.
then i tried
=FormatDate([Flight date];"mmm/yyyy")
which does this Apr/2011 for example, goes near and will do what I want to achive, but yet again the measure is #UNAVAILABLE again.
it seems that it just does not work.
i am this close of logging an SAP support error
I can get my grouping to work if I create a Month field in the source, and outside WebI, but i don't really want to do that. I want the variable webi dimension to work as it should, or i believe it should -
Code runs fine in debug mode but hangs when compiled in release mode
I am struggling with the following problem. I have code which runs fine when it is executed in debug mode. However, when I compile it in release mode and run the executable, the code freezes and does not work. The code acquires images from a Hamamatsu camera. In the debug mode I am able to continuously acquire images. However, in the release version, the code hangs after acquiring the first image.
I am using LabWindows/CVI version 7.
I would greatly appreciate if I can get any help/suggestions in resolving this problem?
Thanks!

If you search this forum for "debug release crash" or "release version crash" or similar phrases, you'll find that this is a pretty common question. Look through the other posts you find here to see if anything is applicable to you.
The debug version does some things like padding variables so you can sometimes overrun your declared variable space without overwriting the next variable. In the release, the variables are packed, so if you overrun one, you are overwriting another. Just one possible difference.
You can do some things in your release code to see where things get lost, like (temporarily using printf statements after multiple statements at the start and end of your loop to try to identify that failing line of code.

Program running fine in Debug mode but failing in direct execution
Hi All,
I am facing a peculiar problem, I have created a report that create STO then Delivery and then Shipment one after one. I have used BAPI to do so. If STO creation is successful then Create Delivery and if delivery creation is also successfull then create Shipment.
When I run this program by pressing execute button it is only creating STO and coming out ,but if I run it in Debug mode I get all the three( STO, Delivey,Shipment). Since it run fine in debug so I can't found where the problem is.
Can any one help???
Regards
HemantHi guys,
A learning for me .... how important WAIt parmeter is in commit work .. Initially i have not set WAIT paramater in commit BAPI to X due to this further processing.. Delivery and Shipment creation was failing in direct execution ... as after STO creation I was reding EKPO and that was failing in direct execution , but in backgroung everything was ok.
Thanks for your time.
Cheers

Why does my program run fine in highlight execution, but not normally?
When I highlight execution, the program runs fine, but when I run the program normally, nothing happens. (I believe the program is stuck at the initialize cam vi). If someone could help me out, I'd be very thankful

intensity10.vi 139 KBThe first troubleshooting technique I did was to add several "waits" throughout the program, particularily with the loops. I learned the problem was actually with the hardware itself and the camera mode. The camera must take an empty frame before it can store the image, thus the for loop needed to be replaced with a while loop.
However, after fixing the program using boolean logic, 2 of the buttons disappear on my front panel during use (which I will have to further troubleshoot). Thank you!

Using the Run feature to open Thunderbird - my husband and I have separate email accounts here...... but after doing a spyware/malware clean up - the Run command that was saved is gone and I don't know what it was to go find our emails........
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe" -ProfileManager
or
"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe" -ProfileManager
Instead of using run all the time, do the following.
After you work out which run actually works.
Right click your desktop and select new and then shortcut.
In the location of the item, paste the run command that works. (Ctrl_V will paste. Selecting text and pressing Ctrl+C will copy. So even though there is no paste button or menu you can still paste.
Click next, Check the title information and Finish.
Now there will be an icon on the desktop to open Thunderbird and you can pick the profile from the list. -
Query running fine in one environment but failing in other environment
Hi,
I have a query which i am trying to execute in two different environments.
Test :- Oracle Database 11g Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production
Prod:- Oracle Database 11g Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production
Now query executes finely in one environment and fails in other environment.
It gives following error.
ORA-01861: literal does not match format string
01861. 00000 - "literal does not match format string"
The query is too long and contains CHAR-DATE and DATE-CHAR conversions.
The same query works fine on TEST environment and and fails on PROD environment.
Any help related to it would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Thanks,
MaheshThat's called a bug. One caused by the person who developed the code. They relied on implicit conversion between strings and dates when
production quality code will always use to_char and to_date functions with a format mask.
