BGP Conversion Time

Guys,
Has anyone can tell me the convergence time for BGP. Basically, I have 2 CEs on redundancy. However, I find that the time taken to failover from primary to secondary link took 22secs. Is this a normal timing taken for conversion over MPLS on BGP?

the time could even be worse. eBGP takes up to 30 seconds to announce an update, iBGP up to 5 seconds. So you could get a convergence time of over a minute (2x eBGP + iBGP).
To reduce this use the command "neighbor advertisement-interval"

You might want to investigate the convergence time improvement by adjusting the scan interval. This might be, however, somewhat risky in that it could lead to less stability, if the interval is choosen too small and the CPU load generated is too high. So use with care.

But I started this topic over here to ask if their is a way to speed up conversion time using the media encoder.     I don't think you can create such a thing for the general populace. There are just too many variables.
    You can take a 1 minute segment and export at various settings on your computer to get such a chart, but that will apply only to you with that material.

  • CFP-TC120 Conversion Time

    Probably a stupid question (at least I hope it is) but does the relatively slow conversion time of the TC120 thermocouple module affect the responsiveness of the whole network interface module?
    I plan to have up to six TC-120 modules within the same network node as other I/O and I can't afford to have any appreciable delays. The first and only time I got to try a system with an TC-120 fitted it seemed to show a sluggish response to other I/O, but it could have been something else!

    Slow update rate of cFP-TC-120 is due to the 50/60Hz filtering.  It has no effect on how fast the network interface module runs.  In my own experience, sluggish behavior happens a couple of ways.  One is during bootup.  This is when things like the Shared Variable Engine are being started.  The more variables, the longer the delay.  With a little planning, this delay can be managed.  I typically just put a delay in my startup vi to allow the SVE to be up and running before I start using the shared variables.  My units seldom get rebooted and I don't need to worry about startup delays.
    One issue that has been reported by several users including me involves sluggish operation until all the I/O have been used once by the program.  NI has never given a specific cause, but the fix is to add an empty text file named "fpremote.ini" to the "ni-rt/system/" folder on the cFP.  You can use ftp to transfer the file.  Maybe one of these days NI will start shipping new units with the file included.
    The last cause is simply how the code is structured.  I am my own worst enemy.

    board (4us) ? May be really it takes less time ?

    I started an acquisition (PCI 6221, external sample clock) with a high level
    dc signal (e.g. 3V), then during the
    conversion it felt to zero, but it had no influence on the results - I got
    3V!
    It seems as the board has a sample/hold capacitor. May be it really has?

  • INSANELY SUPER SLOW conversion times for MP4 to Quicktime Movie..HELP!!!!!!

    Hi folks...
    I am frustrated.
    I am a student in a Film Editing class.
    I have an assignment where I have to take a classic film and create a movie trailer for it using the original film and editing in FinalCut Pro.
    I started off by using Handbrake to change the original DVD of the film into an MPEG-4. This took about 3 hours, which was long....but Handbrake did a very good job and the conversion was completed.
    So, I have a high quality MPEG-4 of the movie.
    However, as many people know, you cannot import an MPEG-4 file into FinalCut.
    You have to first convert the MPEG-4 to a Quicktime Movie (a.k.a. "mov file")
    HERE IS WHERE THE PROBLEM HAS STARTED
    I have been trying for almost two weeks to convert one movie- the 1979 movie "Alien"- over from MPEG-4 to Quicktime.mov, as I keep running into problems.
    Right now, at home, my computer (a PowerMac G4) is converting the file using MPEG Streamclips...
    At the current rate it is going (I timed it and used a calculator)...it will take approximately 80 HOURS (!!!!) for MPEG Streamclips to convert this film from MPEG-4 to Quicktime MOV.
    I literally started the conversion at 8 o clock last night. I went to sleep. This morning I was getting ready to go to my job. The file was still only 10% COMPLETE...(THIS IS INSANE)...
    I got upset with this, as my professor in the editing class says he may dock me points for a late assignment.
    So, I PURCHASED Quicktime Pro for Windows.
    I have downloaded it onto this PC I am using.
    In almost 2 hours, it has only gone from "8% completed" to "9% completed"... there is no way this will be done in any less than 48 hours. NOTE- I am not using a 3rd party, free, unpredictable sortware...I am using the official Quicktime 7 PRO that I bought straight from APPLE....and it is THIS SLOW.
    This is absolutely crazy. IS THIS NORMAL? People running their computers 24 hours a day for 3 to 4 DAYS to convert a film from MPEG-4 to Quicktime Movie?
    What can I possibly do to make this go faster? I was afraid I was going to crash this PC (the fan has been running loudly on high non-stop since I started this...I know this will take more than 8 hours at this rate, so I shut it off)
    What are tips/shortcuts that anyone can give to help with this.
    I dont think I should have to go to the United States Government to the Pentagon (or to Steve Jobs's house!) to get a computer with enough RAM and computing power to change an MP4 to a Quicktime movie.
    I have even used the newest and most powerful G5 computers here at the university, running OS 10.5 with Quicktime Pro as the converter....and still seen extremely slow conversions (as in, it will take 48 hours of continuous computing to complete this)
    Is this normal? Does everyone actually do this when they need to convert a film?
    Or, are there shortcuts, slight drops in quality, or special shortcuts I can take?? What do KNOWEDGEABLE people do to convert an MPEG-4 file to a Quicktime Movie?
    3-4 hours is long, but reasonable.... 80 HOURS IS INSANE......

    I restarted the conversion, only this time I am seeking to convert the MEPG-4 over to "Apple DV/DVC PRO- NTSC format"
    An instructor here at the school gave that as a suggestion...
    Now, at the current rate of THIS conversion, it will STILL TAKE about 40 hours of continuous processing to convert this film. THe computer will need to run 24 hours a day for almost 2 days to convert this.
    The instructor told me he thinks the ludicrous time frames needed have something to do with the fact that I am converting this film from MPEG-4. He thinks that this could be what is causing it to be this slow.
    I am just not used to this type of thing....I have never used a computer to do ANYTHING that takes 40 to 80 hours to complete.
    I think that director Ridley Scott likely filmed the actual movie itself much faster than this conversion is taking (!!!)

  • Procurement of non valuated materials Problems at PR Conversion time

    Dear Gurus,
    I need a hand on defining settings for non valuated stock materials procurement.
    1-> Am using a copy of non valuated material type UNWB to which i added Accounting views )for GL acc determination through valuation class).
    2-> In OPPQ, "Account assignment unknown" value is set to "9" copied from standard "K" (cost center) but with consumption posting set to "U".  
    3-> PR is generated through MRP with this account assignment "9".
    4-> PR to PO conversion is where i have a problem since i get message "Unknown account assignment not defined for use here".
    At PO creation time we need to populate a cost center so we need the account assignment tab to appear.
    Now we have  to change manually the account assignment category from "9" to "K" to enter the cost center (GL account is defaulted from OBYC)
    -> The ideal for us would be to generate the PR with the right account assignment "K" but it is not possible since OPPQ only accepts an account assignment category that has consumption posting value set to "U"  and not  "V".
    How can i customize this flow with minimum user interaction ??

    What am dealing with here is not an issue related to customizing point "Define Combination of Item Categories/Account Assignment Categories". In OPPQ customizing when defining non valuated material account aasignment of non valuated material, R3 asks for an account assignment that has a special setting. This setting is done in customizing step "Maintain Account Assignment Categories", value for consumption posting has to be set to "U" (usually it is "V"). The PR is generated OK, the problem arises when i want to convert the PR to a PO where the use of this account assignment is not possible anymore because of the consumption posting value "U". The PO needs an exact account assignment. Check be low the error message :
    "Unknown account assignment not defined for use here
    Message no. ME 069
    Diagnosis
    You have entered the account assignment category "unknown account assignment" for the item. However, in the case of purchase orders and scheduling agreements an exact account assignment is necessary.
    Procedure
    Change the account assignment category to one for which an account assignment is defined (for example, cost center etc.)."

  • BGP convergence time

    Hello,
    Recently I have been experiencing some problems with BGP convergence taking longer then expected.
    I have 3 upstream peers, and for awhile I had the best one local pref'ed down, so that things were more balanced.
    I took away those local preference configurations, so that my ibgp routers (6) pretty much learn 250,000 routes from the 1 peer, and a very small amount of routes from the other 2, the 1 peer is just that well connected.
    If i soft shut down the peer that has all of the routes as the best path, convergence cane take from 3-4 minutes, and causes some destinations to be unreachable during those times. Prior to the change, when my routes were balanced because of filtering, where I may learn 100,000 routes from each peer etc, things converged much quicker.
    My question is, can Cisco routes just not handle pulling out 250,000 routes from 5-6 downstream ibgp peers quickly?
    I am running 6500s and 7600s with sup720, so I would think the reason is not bad hardware that can not handle it, i would just expect these routers to be able to handle full tables a bit better, when it comes to sending the remove messages to its downstream ibgp peers faster.
    Is there a way to make that go smoother, with maybe route reflectors? I have no used them before so am not to familar with how they work low level, just looking for ideas.

    It takes times to install the new routes: now when the preferred peer for 250,000 routes fail all 250,000 routes have to be withdrawn for each prefix a new BGP best path has to be chosen and propagated.
    Each BGP update takes space in a BGP update packet and a BGP update packet has a maximum size.
    The protocol has its own dynamics and cannot convergence in zero seconds: the more best BGP paths change the more the protocol has to work.
    So what you see is the result of having preferred all the routes of a single peer: this can be a resonable choice but it is a worse case from the reduncancy point of view in comparison to having as best routes one third of prefixes via peer1, oner third via peer2, one third via peer3.
    BGP Route Reflector servers are a good tool for scalability, they are of limited help in reducing convergence time.

  • Long Conversion Time?

    Hello!
    I recently filmed a performance for my local theater and im in charge of producing DVD's. I shot in HDV using a Sony HDR HC3 and edited natively in Final Cut Pro (current version) running OSX 10.5.4. When i was finished i exported using the same settings leaving make movie self contained unchecked. I then imported the resulting HDV file into Compressor and gave it DVD Best Quality 90 minutes. I changed the Deinterlace to Better (Motion adaptive). Then i submit.
    The time for conversion started at about 5 minutes. After the status bar got halfway towards completion however, the time jumped to 26 hours! This can't seem right! I tried again this time checking the Making Move Self Contained box.. but i get the same result! I don't think it should take this long to convert to a DVD format. Especially since the video in only about 40 minutes long.
    Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks..
    System Specs: 2.4 ghz Alum iMac with 320gb internal and 500gb fw 800 for video editing. 3 gb ram 256 mb video card. Any other info just ask!

    No, a few hours doesn't sound right. But you have to tell us more about your machine specs including processor speed, how much memory (RAM), what size HD, how full is it, are you using an external HD, etc. What version of OSX, FCE and QT are installed.
    ... and did you do Sequence > Render All > Video and Sequence > Render Only > Mixdown before you tried to export ...
    ... and exactly how you are trying to do the QT conversion - for example, using QT conversion to produce H.264 video is going to take quite a bit longer than, say, exporting to MPEG4.

    no, it's usually better than half real time on a fast machine. I have only tested it on G5s or better.

    I am trying to figure out how to add up the time/duration for all my free -rgualr skype- calls with one perosn on skype, preferably also have the date of each call as well listed. I found one post that requires me to download skypelogview but it does not work on mac. Does anyone know a smiliar program that works on mac?

  • D7000 H.264 to ProRes - Ridiculously long conversion times

    When converting the D7000 footage from h.264 to ProRes for editing in Final Cut, it's taking absolutely ridiculously long to do so, even with short clips. I primarily use the Canon 7D. When converting 7D footage with those same output settings, it's acceptable the time it takes. But, with the D7000's footage, it's then astronomically longer of a process.
    Does anyone know why? I'm assuming it has to do with the higher compression of the Nikon footage, but I wanted to see if there is anymore light to be shed on this.

    Shooting on the D7000, I used Image Capture to import a 2 minute 1080p24 clip that was 325 megs,
    Compressor processed it to ProRes422LT using 7 of my 8 cores in about 7 minutes to a file that is now 1.2 gigs.
    So, roughly, I'm looking at 6-8 times real time to process H,264 to ProResLT into a file that is roughly 4x the size of the  original.
    The image is lovely but shooting through my Nikkor primes has several negative aspects, most notably, today's autofocus lenses have focus barrels that go through the entire range in 120 to 200 degrees. My ancient manual Nikkors had focus rings that used 200 to more than 360 degrees of rotation to go from minimum focual distance to infinity. This, in combination with a split image rangefinder or microprism, meant precision focus was easy to achieve on the older lenses. Today's lenses have tolerances that are too tight for manual focus, merely letting go of the focusing barrel pushes the lens past the exact focus point. Of course, a precision focusing aid is not an option on any of Nikon's "professional" cameras these days.
    Auto focus tracking while shooting is unreliable and unprofessionally lame. Manually tracking focus while shooting requires a very good monitor hood/magnifier. This requirement alone makes the whole DSLR video thing totally stupid and completely amateurish. Even though I scored a new camera, I'm stuck with this lame process because some pinhead at my company has suddenly decided bokeh is cool.
    Why doesn't Nikon just adapt their CMOS, lens mount and basic controls to a dedicated, fully professional digital cinema camera?

    I've got 151 GB available on my system drive.
    Presently, it is taking me approximately 2 hours 45 minutes
    to convert a 6 minute 26 sec mov to a flv with custom settings of:
    Max Date Rate: 300 kbps
    Frame Rate: Same as Source
    Audio Data Rate: 48 kbps (mono)
    500 x 333 pixels.
    HOWEVER, on an associate's computer he is able to convert
    under the same specs, same files, etc. in 1 hour 40 minutes.
    His computer specs are:
    Power Mac G5
    Processor Speed - 2.3 GHz
    2-CPU's
    L2 Cache - 1 mb per CPU
    Memory - 16 GB
    Bus Speed 1.15 GHz
    My computer has much more powerful processor, so we're
    confused why it's taking longer on my computer.
    I also have a second internal drive but presently the
    programs and source file are on my system HD. Someone suggested
    that I should try to make sure that the Video Encoder has max RAM
    allocated to it as well as having the scratch disk and cache set to
    the second internal drive. I don't know how to do this or even if
    it's possible but looking for advice and suggestions on how to
    better optimize the Video Encoder and would appreciate any help
    with this ASAP.
