Big 740GTM-P25 problems!

I bought the MSI 740GTM-P25 motherboard and a Phenom 9950BE cpu.
I already had some 2x1GB Geil DDR2 memory, so I mounted that.
Added 4x1TB SATA harddisks.
There is NO PCI or PCI-E cards mounted in the pc.
I mounted it all into a tower with a 450watts PSU, and booted without any problems.
But after a while, the computer just shut down, and the power led started flashing with about a 1 second interval.
I removed the powercord for about 10 minutes and plugged it back in.
I could see the fans twitching once, but nothing else happened. Not even the flashing power led came back.
Then I tried disconnecting everything, and even dismounted the memory. Still nothing...
Then I took my Phenom 9950BE cpu from my other PC (the one I am writing from) and mounted that in the motherboard. Still no dice...
I came to the conclusion that it had to be either the PSU or my motherboard that was the problem.
Went out and bought a new PSU (Antec BP550 Plus - EC) and mounted that. Nothing...
I ordered a replacement motherboard and mounted that.
And YES!!!  It booted and everything seemed to work.
For about 1 hour...
Now the new motherboard does EXACTLY the same.
So... HELP!

Take the board out of the case and test it on a non-conducting surface in barebone configuration:
- CPU + fan
- one stick of RAM only
- Video Card (only if your board does not provide onboard video=
- keyboard
- PSU
- NO hard drive or optical drives
- NO wires to the case whatsoever
- NO peripheral devices and add-on cards
Once you have your system on a non-conducting surface in barebone configuration, >>Clear CMOS<< and try to start it again.
In case the system shuts down again after a short while, check your CPU Temperature in BIOS Setup.
Oh, and one more thing, in case the above steps do not change anything:
Quote
and a Phenom 9950BE cpu
Please note that this processor is not officially supported on this mainboard:
http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=prodcpu2&prod_no=1851&maincat_no=1&orderby=cpu_name%20ASC#menu
That processor as a TDP of 140W and as you can see in the CPU Support List, all supported processors have a TDP of less than 100W.  Using this processor on the 740GTM-P25 may overload the power circuits and power converters of the board, resulting in permanent hardware damage.  Perhaps this has already happened (twice) in your case.

  • 740GTM-P25 Onboard Video won't disable......

    Hey everyone,
The title pretty much sums it up, but when I plug in a working (confirmed on other PC's) PCI-E graphics card into this motherboard, I am unable to get the motherboard to either switch to the dedicated card from the internal VGA.
For reference, all these components work fine in other PC's....
MSI 740GTM-P25 motherboard (MS-7302 Version 1.3 with latest bios G.70)
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual core 4000+
2X1Gb sticks of corsair ram (XMS 6400)
75Gb IDE System HDD (an old one i know!)
    Sony IDE DVD-RW drive
2 X 250 Gb Seagate SATA data drives
    PSU details:
Tsunami brand, stable with my other rig....
    +3.3v    22A
    +5v       20A
    +12V1    27A
    +12v2    28A
    -12V      0.5A
    +5VSB    2A
And the graphics card i am trying to plug in is a MSI 8600 GTS 256Mb card, which works fine in my other rig.
So far i have tried setting in bios "Primary display adapter" to PCI-E and also PCI, but still nothing.
The strangest thing is that windows isn't even picking the card up in the device manager, so im not sure what's going on.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, as the built in Radeon 2100 is rather ordinary......

Ok, i will clarify a bit more.
Currently my monitor has two inputs, one D-sub connection to the internal graphics, and one DVI-D to the dedicated graphics card.
So i will see something, whether it is from the internal or the dedicated, just by switching between the inputs from my monitor.
Currently it is working using the internal graphics, even though the dedicated graphics card is plugged in, has power, and the fan on it is running.
I will try changing the settings in the bios again and report back in a min.

  • Big Time Capsule Problems

I'm having big problems with my time capsule.
I've had it a week and the first backup is not yet done. Today I have spent 6 hours watching it say 'preparing' but never backing up. Now it is saying 'failed' because 'The backup disk image could not be mounted.' What is going on?
Please help - I've spent nearly a week on this and I'm sick of it. It's not what I xpect from apple.

I have been having problems with Time Capsule being unable to create disk image or not mounting, on and off since I got it about a year ago. I have gleaned a series of different assists, which I apply en mass, each time I need to reset and start all over.
Here are the key things to do to rid it of gremlins. (I don't know whether they all help or one is the key to my problems)
1/ Network name. In system folder> Sharing make sure there is a name of your network. Less than eight characters and no punctuation.
2/ Run disk utility to verify and repair disks
3/ In TC preferences, select no disc.
4/ Turn off TC at wall.
5/ Delete the sparse bundle (Created by TC)
6/ Erase the disk (In disk utility), if it will allow you
7/ Change name of Time capsule in TC preferences. Same again, less than 8 and no punctuation
8/ Turn back on and select disk, newly named disc.
    9/ Try backing up.
Even if you have done some of these before, I always need to make minor adjustments to the disc or network names to kickstart it again. This will necessitate a 24hour full HD backup to take place, and will wipe what is already on your disc.

  • Big and strange problem with my Zen Touch, please he

I have had my Zen Touch since October and I have never had a problem with it, but suddenly yesterday I stopped for no obvious reason, it just froze.
I have since tried to reset it a number of times, and everytime it goes into something called "recovery mode", where I can "clean up", "format all" "reload firmware" or "reboot". Only reboot works, when I try to choose the other options it just says "harddisk problem".
I have then tried to upgrade the firmware through USB 2.0, but it freezes shortly into the process...
So now I don?t know what to do, I really hope that some of you can help me... Thanks a lot

Well that's a big problem, but it's certainly not a strange one. In fact, it seems to happen to pretty much every Zen Touch ever.Last time it happened to mine I fixed it by putting the player in its case and dropping it on the floor. I'm not even joking.Edit: By the way, this usually means the hard dri've is stuck, particularly if your player is new. Smackin' it around a little really does help.Message Edited by debaser on 04-06-2005 02:8 AM

  • LaCie d2 Big Disk power problem / failure

I've always been a fan of LaCie drives until recently when I started hearing some horror stories about drives crashing. I've got a couple of LaCie Firewire drives, 80GB Porsche design and a d2 Big Disk 320GB Triple Interface (Firewire 800/400 + usb2).
Suddenly I've had a horror story of my own...
During the past month I have noticed that the drive seemed to lose power and shut down without warning, which in turn caused my computer to freeze and crash. The drive was connected to my computer via the Firewire 800 connection and normally runs all the time that my computer is on. Since the problems began, I have been ejecting it and then turning it off when I haven’t been using it.
Then a couple of weeks ago the drive no longer turned on when the computer is booted up and the power button on the drive has no effect. I have noticed that the power supply box light flickers when the power cable is connected to the drive. When I take the power cable out of the drive the light on the power supply remains on and constant.
So now I am left with a drive that's about 85% full (hours of my CD's uploaded in Apple Lossless format) and therefore I am incredibly anxious to save the drive but more importantly the data on it.
I haven't moved the drive in anyway and it certainly hasn't been dropped or damaged. Likewise nothing's happened to the power cable to subject it to any damage. Furthermore I haven't even installed any new software or hardware recently either.
I've contacted LaCie and my orignal supplier (Savastore) and they're both being backward about repair and warranty despite the fact that in Europe the product carries a 2-year warranty and it's only 18 months old.
Has anybody else experienced any similiar problems? Did you manage to resolve them?
    Mark
    PowerMacG4 (Mirrored Drive Doors) 1.25GHz, 1.25GB RAM, 167MHz Bus Speed   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   LaCie 80gb, LaCie d2 extreme (triple interface) 300gb, iPod Photo & Video 60gb

Well, the route of the problem was a malfunction with the the power supply inside the drive. I was lucky to find a 'friend of a friend' at LaCie who was able to fix the problem and save my data. Apparently LaCie's normal policy would have repaired my drive but as a matter of course they would have wiped the drive before it was returned and I would have lost everything. Let's just say I owe the 'friend of a friend' big time because data recovery would have been very costly.
Since the drive has been returned I have backed-up all of the data to a new Western Digital eSata drive. I'm now going to use the old LaCie drive for non-crucial items while I monitor its 'health'.

  • Lacie 500GB Big Disk Extreme problem.

I have a Lacie 500GB Big Disk Extreme (Triple Interface), that the Airport Extreme (n) is not mounting.
It's formatted as Mac OS Journalled, and works perfectly if connected directly to my MacBook Pro by USB or Firewire.
When connected to the AE(n), I get the following error message:
"Your AirPort base station is reporting the following errors:
    Disk needs repair
Errors were found with a disk connected to your AirPort Base Station. Please connect the USB disk to your Mac or PC and use Disk Utility or another application to repair the disk."
I connected the drive to my MBP and ran Disk Utility, which reported no problems with the drive at all. After repeated attempts, with various cables, I updated the firmware on the drive to see if that would solve the problem. It didn't.
Anyone else having problems with their Lacie drives, especially those of you with the Big Disk Extremes?

Am trying to get my Lacie 300GB Big Disk triple interface to work with my (new) Airport Extreme - however it just doesn't recognise it through the USB port.
Problem A - my macbook works fine with the lacie through FireWire cables (which is what i've always used), but the disks don't mount when its plugged in through the USB.
Problem B - would the Hard Drive work on Airport Extreme if I had a powered hub (with firewire ports) plugged into the USB, and then link up the Lacie through the firewire?
    cheers

  • Big fan noise problem: the rear fan won't shut off, the BIOS won't update, systemupdate locks up

I received new ThinkStaion (oh boy, lots of memory and CPU speed, yay!)
I unfortunately left the originally installed Vista OS on there.  Very much regretting that as I believe it contributes to the following problems (BIOS).
So the original problem was that after just a month of using my new ThinkStation, the System Board died, and it had to be replaced. Honestly, all I did was choose the sleep or hibernate option in Vista to shut down.  Afterwards, poof! didn't even get the proper Power lights on the system.  I diagnosed this with the online docs and then sat for a few hours on our tech support line doing all the same things to re-diagnose it.
So after the replacement, the rear fan will not shut off. Jet engine noise all day. I went into the system settings and selected "Quiet" for the Fan settings but that did not help.
Research on this forum resulted in the possibility of a BIOS update fixing the problem.  Comparison to my co-workers systems which arrived at the same time shows this BIOS is woefully out of date, so even if it does not fix the fan issue I want to update it.  However, everything I've tried to do is failing for one reason or another.
(The fan issue does need resolution since in one week I will end up sharing an office (first time in many years, thanks IBM for nothing!) so since I don't want us both to have to wear noise cancelling headsets, I'd like to fix this without having to just pull the @#$@ power to the fan. Grrrr. )
I downloaded what I felt were the appropriate Lenovo apps to update both the BIOS and the serial number but none seem to work properly from the command line in Vista.  One of the two (can't recall which) asks me to reboot and it never actually shuts down. Eternal "Shutting Down" message. Ga!  The other throws some gosh awful

error 1275 no admin priv - I AM the administrator account, there is no other acct to use!
Then I decided Vista might be the problem and found sites recommending flashing the BIOS from a bootable USB.  So I started down that path and after burning the wrong version, finally geting the AIK Vista tools installed and to the point of trying to make the USB bootable, it won't allow me to put the OS boot on it.  Ah, for the days when a simple "sys a:" took care of that.
So, after reformatting the USB and pounding my head in the wall, keyboard, etc. I am at my wit's end.  What to do.  I just want the fan noise to go away.
This does seem to duplicate other forum messages but I can't get anywhere on this.  Help!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

FYI to all the helpful folks here (and any looking to shut their jet engine off as well): Flashing the BIOS did the trick.
First I had to find a website with DOS OS files and put those on the USB instead of Vista.  Oldie but a goodie, but at least it booted! No other versions would.
I had been intending to use the WinPhlash utility that Lenovo supplied with the BIOS update but since I was booting from DOS that was useless. However, I found a DOS version of it and used that instead. Boom baby!  Flashed and rebooted.
It did take two boots to get it back to normal (first one gave very alarming messages about no operating system being found but I think it was just a remnant of the reboot that was triggered from the DOS session).  A second boot returned life to normal and blissful silence from the server.  And I was finally able to get the model and serial number back in there to get rid of the bootup message it throws for that too.
    Ahhhhhhh.
Thanks to all for the hints - I believe I had gotten the idea of flashing the BIOS to solve this from some other thread I found here.  This is a very nice forum to have bookmarked.

  • Big hard drive problem after 10.8.5 supplemental update

Hello, I just tried installing the 10.8.5 supplemental update, but now I can't restart my iMac at all. It keeps trying to reinstall the update, and then shuts down. I can restart from the recovery HD, but I can't reinstall the previous software as it says that both of my disks are locked, the main HD and the recovery HD. I tried disk repair, but it says the main HD can't be repaired. Is there any way to unlock the disks? Any other options? Thanks.

You will have to do internet recovery OS X: About OS X Recovery
or Mountain Lion Recovery disk assistant  OS X Recovery Disk Assistant v1.0
If you have a third party utility like disk warrior or techtool  DiskWarrior 4 - The Disk Utility for Mac Disk Repair, Mac Directory Repair, Mac Disk Recovery, Mac Data Recovery or Techtool Pro 7
they might be able to fix your drive, but this is unlikely.
If you can get the drive repaired and you are still game for the update, I'd use the combo installer instead. A lot of people have had problems with the supplemental installer. I just used the combo installer the other day for a problem I was having with iTunes, worked like a charm. OS X Mountain Lion Update v10.8.5 (Combo)
If the recovery partition will let you, you might have to erase the drive and reinstall ML and reinstall your documents from backups, which I hope you have.
If it won't let you, and DW or TT or Disk Utility won't fix or erase your drive, then the drive has probably failed, and you'll have to replace it.

  • Oh no... Big PS Actions problems.

    Good Morning!
I'm in a right old pickle, and could you some Photoshop wizardery.
I'll go in to as much detail as possible, so try not to get lost...
We  have lots of Actions setup for the various products we design. These  Actions when run, will take the image/product we have and resize, save,  resize again, and save again in various locations across a network.  We've had these actions since way back, like CS2, and they've worked  like a dream right through to CS5 for a short while, then all of sudden,  BOOM, when it comes to the save file command in the action, its  starting renaming the file to a file thats already in the destination  folder - resulting in wrong file names for images, let me explain  further...
    example:
i have a destination folder called MUSIC POSTERS (one of many folders the action saves to) on a backup computer on the network.
    In this folder i have:
    GUNS N ROSES.jpg
    MOTORHEAD.jpg
    EMINEM.jpg
If  i take a new poster, say motorhead.eps and run the action, it will  resize ok, but the save command will then place the name EMINEM in the  save dialog!? resulting in us having a motorhead poster called  EMINEM.jpg and the original EMINEM.jpg file overwritten!
I'm  aware of the fact that if when writing an Action and you manually type a  file name into the dialog, it will record that name and use from there  on out, but i certainly didnt do this, and it's worked fine for years.
Upon  looking in all the folders it saves to - it saves correctly to only one  folder, this folder is on the same drive as 2 of the other folders  which it doesnt save correctly to 0 which makes me think its not a  problem with the drive on the network (because its managing to save at  least one correctly.)
I've tried a couple  troubleshooting's - re-written the action many times, tried storing and  loading/using the actions from a folder on my Artwork Partition (my  computer is partitioned into SYSTEM, and ARTWORK), and also tried  storing and loading/using the actions from within Photoshops Actions  folder within the applications folder.
Problem No.2 -  occassionally the steps within actions will rearrange themselves,  duplicate themselves, or even remove themselves!
    Any clues please?
just downloaded and installed latest patch, still no luck.
The same actions are installed on 5 machines (each working from there own locally stored copies of the actions) and we all have the same problem, how can they all have corrupt!?

I had some sound problems with Quicktime earlier today so I decided to reinstall it. For reinstalling my MacBook needed to restart, but now it keeps restarting. It goes on and then it looks like its starting up but it doesn't go any further than the grey screen with the apple logo and the spinning wheel. After a minute or so my MacBook goes black and does the whole thing again, and again and again. Can anyone tell me whats wrong and how can I solve it?!

put your leopard disc in the drive and restart the computer holding "c" immediately.
once you select english as your main language... you'll notice that the menu bar on the top appears
click "utilities" and click "disk utility"
select "macintosh HD" or whatever drive is the second from the top
    then select repair disc

  • BIG nano connection problem

I got my iPod Nano delivered today & after it finished charging I installed the software that is on the CD.
My problem is that when i connect my Nano using the USB cable it doesn't show that it is connected in iTunes or My Computer or the iPod for Windows software update which means I can't choose to restore the Nano but my PC does make a ringing-type noise everytime i connect it.
What is the problem with it? When you install the software do you have to format the iPod? Because when it says to connect it to check if it does need formatting nothing happens so i clieck on the box to not check & carry on to install the software & have my songs added to the iTunes library. I have done this 2 or 3 times but still can't find out how to make my Nano connected so i can finally download my songs onto it!
I remember when i first connected the iPod a Windows message popped up saying 'found new device ipod' & said connect to internet to find updates for it to which i clicked on no. Then when i tried again later it said 'found new device Mass USB Device' & this time i clicked on the Windows message to find updates & it said something like aborted could not be done.
Can you please help me with this? I'm only 16 & have saved up for this & don't want it to be a waste of money!
Thanks hope this makes sense because I'm really tired!

I recieved my ipod nano and for 2 glorious days it worked. Then my pc could no longer detect it, it just said "malfunctioned usb device" and didnot appear in itunes. The Nano just has the menu as opposed to the "DO NOT DISCONNECT" screen
After a long and arduous day i managed to fix the problem.
By clicking on this link http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651 it tells you how to fix it.
i just did this - (with the ipod connected to the pc)
    1) turn hold on, and then off,
2)then press menu and the center select button simultaiously for 6 seconds
    3)the apple logo appears
4)then it goes back to the menu briefly, and then goes to the "DO NOT DISCONNECT" screen
5)open itunes, wait a minute and your nano will appear
    Wahooooo!
    hope this helps everyone!

  • WindowsLookAndFeel on Linux : BIG  and complete PROBLEM

    Hello,
I have implemented a GUI application with the windows look and feel. I work under Linux with the jdk 1.3 and eclipse.
To run my application with the windows lf, I add the following lines in my code :
    System.setProperty("os.name","Not Windows");

    } catch (Exception e) {

It seems that the problem is caused by the following line :
    System.getProperty("os.name","Not Window");
the system property os.name is parsed as a float.
what can I do to run my application with the windows lf and under linux ?
    any help will be helpful

any help will be helpful Maybe find a JRE which supports it natively. Or, if you are very lucky, extract the relevant classes and resources from the JAR of a Windows JRE (in Sun's rt.jar, com/sun/java/swing/plaf/windows/) and put them into some independent JAR you add to your Linux classpath. For better luck, use the very same version for both JRE. Pray that there are no native methods involved.

I have a several files that when I save to JPEG it comes out at 3.6mb when the file is open it says in the document size that its 362.5k the pixel dimensions are 450x275 and RGB.
This has happened on several files now and I can not figure it out. If I save for web its fine and the file size is 46K but it changes the name and in this instance that is a problem as it links to a spread sheet and that breaks if the file name changes.
    Any ideas whats happening?

  • Big I-Pod problem!!!!!! Help A.S.A.P!

Rite, first thing first i have a 60GB I-Pod Video. This problem stems from me trying to put tracks from CD's into a playlist them one by one (album) putting them onto my i-pod, as i find it is easier. But then finding out that after i put one album on the i-pod, putting another one on afterwards, deletes the previous one?!!?!? How comes that happens??
    THE MAIN PROBLEM......
While i was getting stressed by that problem, another came along, a bigger one! Now my I-pod wont connect to I-Tunes at all. Ive tried re-installing it & begging it, but to no avail. The thing is, my i-pod just stays on "DO NOT DISCONNECT" it is now as i speak, has been for past 20mins! Battery is fully charged.
I cannot think of anything else thats the problem.
    HELP PLEASE!

That is correct, simply plug in the iPod to the computer as you did with the nano. You do not need to install any software, as it is all already on your computer.
    I hope this helps!
