  • Why the big box around my "replied" text?

I was replying to an email the other day and instead of just having my text appear as it usually does, this time I had a big box around it with an X in the upper left-hand corner, allowing me to delete it in its entirety. In addition to that, my reply wasn't in a different color text as I've set it up to be - it was in black.
I'd never seen this before. Can you tell me what this was about?
    Thanks.

Yes, I saw this yesterday on my wife's macbook pro. I don't think she did anything out of the ordinary for it to appear - just typing in a reply to an email. My solution was to convert the message to plain text. But why did it appear in the first place?
There have been other messages mentioning the "box with the X", but these have been black-filled boxes that occur when sending a document from another application to Mail, or Mailing an event from iCal etc. In my wife's case, and I think Chip's too, there was no attachment involved, just typing in text.

  • Problem with LOGIC AUDIO 5 (BIG BOX) any Help is Useful

    Hi,
I just sold my old Logic 5 Audio (big Box) on Ebay, but the new owner claims that he can't install the software without a serial(In my opinnion he should be able to install when he has the XSKey). Where can I ask for the serial, because I don't have it anymore.
    The XSKey is: 000009432201434
    XSKey Firmware 23-0
I would be pleased for any help that you can give me.

    Hi,
If my memory serves me well, there were serial numbers for the soft synths that were included in the Big box version. Those serials had to be entered in the XSKey via Logic. But if you used those and entered the serials while the product was yours, they should be in the key already. Are you sure the buyer understands he(she) has to plug the key on the computer? Maybe the XSKey needs to be updated? Good luck...

  • Upgrade Logic Express 9 from Logic Audio 5 (Big Box)

    Hi,
I am trying to install Logic Express 9 Upgrade (the version to upgrade from Logic Express 6, 7 or 8 or Logic Audio 5 or 6 / Big Box) on my Mac. The installer asks me for my old serial number to upgrade - when I plug in my XSKey which I got with the Big Box (Logic Audio 5) I get an error message that my XSKey is not eligible for the upgrade.
I already tried the XSKey updater, tried installing the latest XSKey driver and also installed Logic Audio 6 to check the authorization of my XSKey. It clearly states that my XSKey is authorized for Logic Audio 5 (not for 6 though).
When checking on a Windows-PC it states that it is authorized for both the Windows and Mac version of Logic Audio 5. Since I don't have an academic or other NFR-edition of Logic Audio 5 I should really be eligible for that upgrade, right?
Any suggestions on how to install the upgrade?
    Thank you,
    johannes.

I called Apple regarding this issue that Monday and after sorting out the usual pitfalls while upgrading (as I mentioned Academic/NFR-Versions) they asked me to mail in my XSKey because I should have been able to upgrade.
Today Apple sent me a replacement serial number for Logic Express 9 and everything is up and running now. Many thanks to Apple Professional Applications Support!
    Best regards,
    johannes.

  • Emagic big box 5 to Apple logic 7

I have Logic Pro 7 hooked up to the beast; However, I have Big Box 5 stashed away.
I have taking the XKey from BB5 and shoved it in my PB G4 and it asked to go into demo for 30 days or purchase.
Any advice before I dump it on Ebay?

Just open the Activity Monitor app (in applications/utilities) and keep adding plugins in a DP session until you get an error message from DP. When you're maxed out (or playing back the DP session just before you max out, you'll need to remove the last plugin that gave the error so it will play again), what does Activity Monitor show under CPU?

  • Upgrading from emagic logic audio big box

I have got the Logic audio 6 Big Box, but I am unsure whether the upgrade discs will allow me to upgrade to the current Apple Logic Express version.
Has anyone actually done this, or is it not possible.
    Thanks in anticipation.....

I'm not sure where on the site they say this, but I do know that this is exactly what I did. I upgraded from Logic Audio 6 to Logic Express 7, skipping Express 6, using the upgrade package.
When you buy the upgrade, you get the DVD with Logic Express 7, and after you install it, you need your XSKey to authorize it the first time. Then you put in the serial number that comes with it, and you're off, never to need your XSKey again, unless you want to use the EXS24 editor in Logic 6.
Don't worry -- it will work.

  • When I click on my uploaded photos a big box with an exclamation point pops up?

After loading my photos on Iphoto when I click the photo to try and view it larger or at all, a grey box with an exclamation point comes onto the screen. How do I view my photos?

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Upgrade discount at big box store?

I'm going to upgrade to the Bionic next week from the original Droid.  I've heard that Costco is going to have an attractive package of accessories bundled with this phone when it goes on sale.
I'm eligible for the upgrade price and also, according to the "My Verizon" site, to a $30.00 "loyal customer" discount.  My question is:  Can I receive this discount if a buy my next Verizon phone from Costco?
P.S.. I ran the forum's spell check on this message and it labeled Droid as a misspelled word!

Thanks to the community members for your input. In responding to CaptainOzone, are you referring to your loyalty discount as the New Every Two discount? If so, you would not be be able to use the New Every Two discount at Costco as it is a Verizon Wireless promotion and encouraged to be used online on My Verizon or at one of our many local stores. We also offer discounts on accessory bundles. I would strongly encourage you to look a that the deals we have for selecting the best offer possible.

  • Acrobat 7.0 PDF Printing with Black Boxes

When I print a PDF file, areas of the document and sometimes the entire document, prints as a big box of black ink. This happens when I print a document that I've created or one that someone else has created and sent to me. This happens if I'm printing a color document or black and white document. Other documents (Word, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc) are printing fine. I checked with the printer manufacturer and they said it was an Acrobat issue.

Thanks I'm aware of that feature.
The bookmarks are there, but there aren't any pages. You have to click on the bookmark to display said page. There is a total of 30 documents (pages but we won't call them that as they are bookmarks). When you go to print you need to click on the bookmark/page you want to print, and it only recognises that page. Not the other 29 bookmarks.
My understanding/research on bookmarks indicates pages are needed. However this document is not showing that at, the bookmarks are treated as pages. As I did not create the document I wonder what the scandal is???

  • Nested CSS boxes

Trying to get the hang of this CSS positioning thing...
Need to have a large centered box (main div) with several (2
to 4) small boxes within it. Essentially, the only text in the
first box (main div) is a H2.
I want the "big" box to have a height that will adjust to the
content of the smaller boxes within it. The small boxes will have
several to many lines of text or table data. The content will be
php-extracted from a mysql database, so it will vary in nbr of rows
    returned.
Using DW MX 2004. I have the "main1" div, then used the DW
"Draw Layer" for a couple of the boxes. You'll see the in-line CSS
that was created with that... once I figure everything out I'll
move all CSS to the external sheet. Right now it's either in the
page head or in-line with the divs.
My problem is: the main div (Manage Content) is not adjusting
in height to be a background for the divs within it. I read several
suggestions about setting the properties of html and body to 100%
height (that's why it's in the CSS in the head). I thought that if
I postioned the main div as relative, then I can position the
nested divs as absolute off of the main? Doesn't seem to be the
    right answer.
    Test page:
    Test page of
    bad divs
    Thanks in advance for helping!

You do NOT want to use Layers for this. Since absolutely
    positioned page
elements are removed from the normal flow of the page, they
    cannot cause
containers to expand. That's why using layers as a page
    layout method is so
    seriously flawed.
The term "CSS positioning" does not refer to just using
    layers. It refers
to the use of CSS to place elements on the page with margins,
    paddings,
floats, and occasionally, with positioning, but only
    occasionally.
This may help you understand positioning a bit -
There are 4 different types of positioning:
    Absolute
    Relative
    Fixed
    Static
Here is a brief explanation of each kind of positioning (with
    regard to
placement of elements on the page only)....
    Position:absolute (or A/P elements)
    This does several things -
    1. It 'removes' the element from the flow of the code on
    the page so that
it can no longer influence the size or position of any other
    page element
(except for those contained within it, of course).
    2. The absolutely positioned element takes its position from
    the position of
its closest PARENT *positioned* element - in the
    absence of any explicitly
positioned parent, this will default to the <body> tag,
    which is always
    positioned
at 0,0 in the browser viewport.
This means that it doesn't matter where in the HTML code the
    layer's code
appears (between <body> and </body>), its
location on the screen will not
change (this assumes that you have not positioned the A/P
    element within
a table or another A/P element, of course).
    Furthermore, the space in
    which
this element would have appeared were it not positioned
    is not preserved
on the screen. In other words, absolutely positioned elements
    don't take
up any space on the page. In fact, they FLOAT over the page.
    Position:relative (or R/P elements)
In contrast to absolute positioning, a relatively positioned
    page element is
*not* removed from the flow of the code on the page, so
    it will use the
    spot
where it would have appeared based on its position in
    the code as its
zero point reference. If you then supply top, right,
    bottom, or left
    positions
to the style for this element, those values will be
    used as offsets from
    its
    zero point.
This means that it DOES matter where in the code the
    relatively positioned
element appears (, as it will be positioned in that location
    (factoring in
the offsets) on the screen (this is true for any placement in
    the code).
Furthermore, the space where this element would have
    appeared is
preserved in the display, and can therefore affect the
    placement of
succeeding elements. This means that the taller a relatively
positioned element is, the more space it forces on the page.
    Position:static
As with relative position, static positions also "go with
    the flow". An
element with a static position cannot have values for
    offsets (top, right,
left, bottom) or if it has them, they will be ignored. Unless
    explicitly
positioned, all div elements default to static positioning.
    Position:fixed
A page element with this style will not scroll as the page
    content scrolls.
Support for this in elements other than page backgrounds is
    quirky
There are several other things you need to know:
    1. ANY page element can be positioned - paragraphs, tables,
    images, lists,
    etc.
    2. The <div> tag is a BLOCK level tag. This means that
    if it is not
positioned or explicitly styled otherwise, a) it will always
    begin on a new
line on the screen, and b) it will always force content to a
    new line below
it, and c) it will always take up the entire width of its
    container (i.e.,
    width:100%).
    3. The placement of A/P elements *can* affect the BEHAVIOR of
    other
    elements
on the page. For example, a 'layer' placed over a hyperlink
    will mask that
    hyperlink.
You can see a good example of the essential difference
    between absolute and
    relative positioning here -
    http://www.great-web-sights.com/g_layersdemo.asp
You can see a good demonstration of why using layers for a
    page layout tool
    is dangerous here -

  • No rebate form in  box??

    I purchased pse8 and
there wasn't a rebate form in the box.  Can someone tell me
where I can get an official rebate form?

    Hi,
I didn't purchase pse8 from a big box store, I purchase it from a small dealer on amazon.com but the rebate form was not in the box.
There is a pdf in the pse8 forum for a copy of the rebate form but when I click on it it say, forbidden you do not have permission to access??
I would appreciate if you could point me to where I can print out the form.  I have been trying unsucessfully to get the form since I purchased the software.  And this is the last week I will be able to claim the rebate.  emails to adobe have not been answered.
    Thanks for any help.

The rebate specifically excludes, Walmart, Sams Club, Best Buy, Office Max, BJ's, if bought from one of those stores. Those stores have a deal with adobe where the rebate is already built into the store price.

  • Compumoron attempts to play with big toys!  Disaster relief requested

I just bought a new computer on Ebay.  It is gorgeous, a great big box with blue lights all over it.  Fans whirling aplenty.  The C drive is two 128GB Crucial C300 SSD drives in RAID 0 array and the operating system is Win 7 Professional 64bit.   I bought this thing to do some music videos, which is just what the world needs, of course.   The video card is an NVIDIA 4000 and there are 2TB drives.  I don't know exactly how this is done but I did buy this rig to do editing of uncompressed HD video using PPro CS5.5.   I am not computer literate at all.  But I am under the impression that I should use the two 2TB drives to store video clips on, while using the RAID 0 array for the Win 7 op system, and the Premiere Pro CS5.5 editing program.  So I am thinking that I somehow import the video clips from the 2TB drives into CS5.5 which will be on the C drive.  I'll do my editing on this C drive, then store finished works on the two 2TB drives.   So far  I haven't been able to even install my Adobe PPro!   Why not?  Because I can't even get logged into Windows without the monitor going to sleep!   It's a new computer that was custom built and sold on Ebay, of course, but from a builder with a great feedback record.  The computer worked for a couple of weeks.  Trouble started when I downloaded and installed a Windows security update for my Nvidia Quadro 4000 video card.   Now when I try to log in to Windows the monitor goes immediately to sleep.  I tried System Restore to several different points in time, even going way back but it's still not working.  In fact, it's worse now as I've been tinkering with settings trying to find a fix for it.   Lately the thing's been going to sleep so that I can't even log in in Safe Mode, which I could before.  I've been fiddling with it for a few weeks now in my spare time.  So because of all the frustration and time spent trying to change settings and make it work now I want to abandon the Raid 0 array completely.  I read somewhere "beware of SSD drives in RAID 0 array!"  So I'm planning to buy a 256gb Crucial M4 SSD, the new series that replaces the older C300 that are in it now, and not operating in Raid at all. I'll have a tech do this, of course.  But I don't know if I should go ahead and buy this SSD or not so I am asking for guidance here.  (I also tried reinstalling Windows but the thing goes to sleep so I can't even do that)   But I see that Adobe says I must have a RAID 0 array to edit uncompressed HD video in PPro CS5.5.  Must I use a RAID 0 Array to edit uncompressed HD video or would a Crucial 256GB m4 SSD do the job?  The videos will be 5 minutes or less, generally.  I'll probably composite the video from about seven takes of the band playing, and pictures of local color and college girls on the beach.  Win 7 Pro and Adobe PPro CS5.5 would be installed on this 256gb SSD drive and I guess I should use the two 2TB drives to store finished videos???  Right now my PC doesn't work at all, can't even log in to Windows 7 and I am thinking I've got it totally fouled up trying to change settings in setup to make it work!  ARGGGHHH!   So I thought of this remedy, replacing the two 128GB SSD drives now in RAID 0 array with a 256GB SSD NOT in RAID array.  But I do want to edit uncompressed HD videos from a Sony EX1R camera and use Adobe CS5.5 to do it.  Is this a good idea?  I try to read the forum comments but I am an older user and have little experience with computers.  Many of the comments refer to devices that are unfamiliar to me.   Many thanks for any advice.  James in Corpus Christi, TX

    Hi Scott,
You're right.  It is an Antec gaming box.  I am planning to use a Sony XDcam, an EX1R. 1)  I think these are indeed EX files and as Harm said below, these are in fact compressed.  I will be doing the editing from probably seven or eight takes and with a few special effects I do want some power to spare so the work will go smoothly.  2) Thank you for confirming that a Raid 0 array is bad news for the C drive.  Again, my system won't even boot into Win 7 Pro with my two 128GB Crucial C300 series SSDs in Raid 0.  But what about a newer Crucial m4 256GB SSD as the C drive?  Would something else be better?
    3) From the Ebay listing I've got the other specs of my current system.
Asus P6T6 WS Revolution socket 1366 motherboard - X58 chipset motherboard.
    Details:
    Intel® Core™ i7 Processor Extreme Edition / Core™ i7 Processor / Xeon® 3500 Series Processor
Intel Xeon X5680 Westmere six core processor - 3.33Ghz with 12MB of cache - With Hyperthreading enabled, your applications will see 12 processor cores.
Two Crucial 128GB Solid State SATA drives, CTDDAC128MAG-1G1 - configured in a RAID 0 array (striping). This array holds the operating system and program files. Drives are housed in a StarTech.com 4x2.5 SATA backplane and connected to a HighPoint RocketRaid 2710 PCIe RAID controller and operate at the faster 6Gb/s throughput.
Two Seagate Barracuda XT 2TB SATA hard drives for file storage - Drives are configured as just individual storage drives, but could be re-configured in RAID 1 for mirroring, or RAID 0 for striping. There is room in the case to add  7 more 3.5” hard disk drives.
1 - nVidia Quadro 4000 PCIe video card equipped with 2GB of GDDR5 memory
    Thanks for the answer!  James

  • Office 2013, click icon nothing happens, no errors, no eventlog, MANY clients with this issue

We're an IT solutions provider for companies of all sizes as well, as residential users, and we've been plagued by a new Microsoft-caused issue that's seriously affecting our client's perception of us since it seems like 'you didn't fix it the first
time' or 'you sold us the computer', so it's our responsibility to fix for free.
We've experienced this with 17 people so far, ranging from residential clients with systems that have come from big box stores and from systems we've sold with Microsoft Office 2013 and basically the entire suite stops working.
If you click an icon, you may see an hour glass for a few seconds and nothing happens (but usually nothing happens at all, as though you didn't click it).
    Diagnostic steps:
No errors in eventlog, neither under system or application.
No third party add-ins, sometimes it's a stock install on a new / fresh system.
Starting Microsoft Office applications in safe mode, like winword /safe, has no effect.
A quick repair or an online repair will not resolve the issue, it will say it's done but issue still exists.
Microsoft Office 2013 cannot be uninstalled, we always receive the same error code: 0-4
Some systems do not have third party antivirus, some are simply using Microsoft Security Essentials.
This affects all Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook.
Makes no difference if you use another user account or run-as admin.
All Microsoft Office 2013 updates have been installed.
The installation source is undetermined but recent issues stemmed from a physical media (.ISO) install from Microsoft's latest source.
You cannot start the software by clicking on documents created with Office applications.
The only way to remove Microsoft Office 2013 is with the removal tool "O15CTRRemove.diagcab".
The problem returns after a random period of days and no client can relay the actual cause of the issue, it seems random in nature. After the issue is experienced, we go through the same steps including the necessity to utilize the removal tool.
This seems to be a new issue that's come out of the blue within the past few weeks, at least on our end. When 17 random people call out of the blue with the same problem, it suggests it's Windows Update related.
I'm really hoping someone has some insight into this Microsoft glitch and knows of a secret hotfix or special trick to prevent it. I attempted to call Microsoft and it would be more enjoyable to punch a concrete wall since you're dealing with useless people
in a foreign country who can't really comprehend the seriousness or technicality of the issue, and don't really care, and aren't skilled enough to provide
    insight.
Does anyone know about this problem?

    Thank you for the reply.
I understand the flash you are receiving while launching Excel or Word is very fast. However just wanted to check if it is possible to get a screenshot of it.
Also, are you able to work fine on Excel or Word even after receiving the flash.
It seems the Office installation might have not been done properly.
There is a possibility, everytime you Uninstall any application, there are still some patches left behind which could cause an issue while Installing the same application again or even after Installation is successful, it sometimes gives
    issue while launching the application.
If you want to give a try, you may try to Uninstall the product using Offscrub by clicking on the below link & then can have a fresh installation again.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501
Please let me know the status update once done
Abhijeet, the box flash happens too fast for me to capture a screenshot of it but I believe it's similar to the smaller box activation process (enter your email).
Word and Excel work fine whenever this is observed.
I'm skeptical that this is a "not done properly" kind of scenario, especially when it applies to so many people and many have brand new computers. How can you take a Microsoft Office disc and install it improperly on a new PC? Or how can a person
go through Microsoft's https://officesetup.getmicrosoftkey.com/ setup, use the software for months and suddenly it stops working? If this is a 'not done properly' scenario, then this is a failing of Microsoft's
installation source. I can't reiterate this enough, the software works fine for people since installation date and then randomly stops working at a much later date (but many of them failed last month and this is a newer issue).
I'm starting to get frustrated again as I'd already stated we've used your linked removal tool in my first post and the problem has returned for another user by which I'd used it and reinstalled the product. The client who's PC we have now, one we'd sold
them, needs to be returned to them and while Microsoft Office is currently working, I was told that if this happens again, they're "going to throw the f#(*@ computer in the river". No joke.
If we're at the point where we've moved past evaluating logs, registry keys, or file versions or anything along the lines of a developer determining how this Microsoft bug occurs, then I'll return the system back to the client and hope for the best.
Three strikes and I'm out with this one but perhaps the delayed startup is the final solution... I just wish I knew for sure as we've had a bad year taking a beating for Microsoft's products and their support is the worst in the industry.
It's further frustrating that since I'd touched base with Microsoft via phone calls, the only person who's been able to provide any insight into the issue is me.

  • How many Macs can you install Logic Express on?

I upgraded to LE 7.1 from the Logic Audio 5/6 Big Box. I needed the XSKey to authorize the LE 7.1 upgrade -- I'm wondering, how many installations of LE 7.1 does it allow? Just for utility's sake it would be useful to install it on a desktop and a laptop, for instance.
As the XSKey still has authorizations for those previous Big Box versions, I presume I could still install Logic 5 and 6 on as many machines as I wanted, I'd just have to always have the XSKey plugged into the particular one I wanted to use at that time...right?

The agreement can be found here
    http://images.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/logicexpress.pdf
    Section 2 first para
Simply you can install it on one laptop and one desktop (See the para for specifics) at the same time, but you can only use on one of these at a time.
You cannot therefore have the same license on two laptops, you need two copies.
How does it check? No idea. I don't have two apple computers.
