Big issues: cannot "connect", cannot download, entire iTunes library gone

okay, so yesterday i was playing some warcraft III and my computer froze, so i had to manually shut down the computer then turn it back on. no big, i think? well i never bothered to go back into itunes because i just wanted to play a quick game then go to bed.
i come to my computer this morning, click itunes (i had not turned my computer off), and to my wonderful surprise literally every single thing that had ever existed in itunes on this computer had vanished. everything: the library, podcasts, playlists, purchased music.
also, i haven't even been able to get from the main itunes music store home page to other sections of itunes- it's been giving me this message detailing "We're sorry, iTunes cannot complete your request at this time," or something of the sort. i literally cannot do anything with itunes right now.
needless to say i'm not exactly... happy... right now, so if anyone could point me in the right direction or better yet provide a solution... i'd be pretty happy. thanks.

I recently purged my iPhone 4S of most of its music because I didn't have enough gigabytes of free space to download the latest iOS (my phone was actually completely full). That ticked me off but I didn't have time for a backup. I transferred all purchases to my library and I deleted the music from my phone.
Since then, I've been annoyed that I don't have all my music but I've been enjoying the free space that I have, so I prefer to restore songs from my library individually now, depending what I'm in the mood to hear, and I don't miss having a full phone.
However, whenever I try to manually sync music that was ripped from a CD, music I didn't download from iTunes, but is playable in my iTunes library, iTunes thinks it has to download the entire library, which I don't even have the space for, anyway. However, my iPhone seems fine wirelessly (I have Home Sharing turned on) syncing individual songs which were purchased in the iTunes store.
So whenever I try to sync a single song, or an album perhaps, which was not purchased on iTunes, I get the message "updating files on iphone" and it says it's copying all the thousands of songs in my entire library. But my settings are for manual sync only. I wind up cancelling the sync every time, because I would have to wait for it to finish copying thousands of songs before it got to the one I selected. Why on earth is it doing this?
How do I regain the ability to sync a single song at a time?

While your iPhone is synching in iTunes, do the following:
1. Click on your iPhone's icon on the left.
2. Find and click on the "Tones" tab on the upper right of the iTunes display.

I bought a new Ipod (5th generation). I am trying to sync it to my itunes. I tunes does not recognize my new ipod. It is registered. I was only able to download purchases I made from my old ipod. I'm getting this error message when I try to download anything from itunes or app store. "cannot download from itunes" "network connection cannot be made.

I can't tell from your post what you have and what you don't have. Are you saying the files are no longer on your computer, no longer on your iPod, or both?

Yes it is.
Initially I got an error message saying can't connect because of Date & Time settings.
Went in and re-verified that those were correct.
Tried to update downloads and then got a new error message: "Can't connect to iTunes Store".
I live in the US and that's where I created my iTunes a/d and Apple ID.
I am currently in India --- can that coause confusion re date & time?

Remove old Apple programs, and use Explorer web-browser. (Firefox or Chrome will not do)

iTunes will run fine with the media on an external drive.
However, I suggest that a tablet computer with a tiny hard drive is not ideal as the primary computer for managing an iTunes library, even a small one. If you have another machine, perhaps a big, boxy, inexpensive old desktop with a decent amount of storage, that might be a better choice.

Hi Monty,
Sorry to say it, but this is normal for Apple TVs. I've owned a TV2 and a TV3, and neither lasted for an entire year. They are quite fragile and of low quality, and as you can see here, quite fussy even when they work. The wi-fi receiver on these are cheap and unreliable.
Consider the $99 an annual rental fee. They rarely work for a whole year, so if you are going to use the platform, you will have to replace them constantly.
Also, when one dies under warranty, never, never send it to Apple for repair. Go to the Apple Store for replacement. I sent my ATV3 in for warranty repair using a box sent to me by Apple, and although FedEx tracking showed it was accepted by Apple, it was never seen again. Apple won't replace it or even return my calls.

First of all make sure that you've definitely backed up the movies to your external hard disc.
In iMovie click on any event you don't want, go to the file menu and select 'move event to trash'. Then do the same for any unwanted projects - 'move project to trash'. Quit out of iMovie and empty the trash.

Download entire itunes match library?

I am unable to download my entire itunes library from iTunes Match. How is it done? I have the latest iTunes on 10.8.
I enabled iTunes Match and let it upload my entire library. This worked fine.
About a week later the external hard drive that I store my itunes library on died, as did the hard drive where I keep my backups.
I bought a new external hard drive and set up iTunes to use that by creating a new library on it.
I then signed into iTunes and then into iTunes Match.
I then looked at the iTunes match option and shift-clicked all the files with the cloud icon.
I then right-clicked the cloud icon and chose Download.
iTunes subsequently downloaded about half my library before iTunes crashed. I subsequently lost internet for about a week, and now that I have it back I want to download the rest of my library.
I launched iTunes today and it told me that an iTunes Match problem has occurred and that I need to sign out and then sign back in.
I have signed out, and signed back in. After doing so, iTunes required me to set up iTunes Match again, so I clicked the button that enables iTunes Match.
iTunes subsequently has scanned my library and matched the songs to apple and found that all the songs in my current computer are all up there on Match. It seems to believe that it's work is done.
However, I do not see the files that are already on Match but not on my computer. I can not download these files to this computer. They show up fine on my iPad and my AppleTV.
Hence my question: How can I get iTunes Match to download my entire library that is stored online?

Highlight all the tracks you want to download, right-click and choose "download." However, if you have a backup on an external HDD that will be a much better way to transfer your music to a new computer.
