Big memory usage in NetStream

After some checking about our player memory usage - we descovered that when appendingBytes() into a netStream - it takes about 10-15 times the size (in Bytes) of the original video file from which we have read. Is there any way to lower this big memory consumption?
Moreover - is there any way to "dispose" the buffer that was already played by appendBytes()?
I tried to set inBufferSeek to false and maxBufferTime to 1. it doesn't seem to have any effect.

Define "huge memory". Oracle generally requires a couple of hundred Mb of RAM.
You can certainly change these services to start manually so long as you don't want your database to be running automatically.

  • Big memory usage

help!. I made a simple animation with an image (not too big <1500 pixels) during the use of text in 3D with several keyframes, suddenly, the memory goes up to use all the available (8GB - about 5GB free). Why? I rebooted both the notebook and Motion but nothing! after I open an project and add or move a keyframe ... memory suddenly rises abruptly.

Because Motion needs lots of RAM.

  • Problem with JTree and memory usage

I have problem with the JTree when memory usage is over the phisical memory( I have 512MB).
I use JTree to display very large data about structure organization of big company. It is working fine until memory usage is over the phisical memory - then some of nodes are not visible.
I hope somebody has an idea about this problem.

55%, it's still 1.6Gb....there shouldn't be a problem scanning something that it says will take up 300Mb, then actually only takes up 70Mb.
And not wrong, it obviously isn't releasing the memory when other applications need it because it doesn't, I have to close PS before it will release it. Yes, it probably is supposed to release it, but it isn't.
Thank you for your answer (even if it did appear to me to be a bit rude/shouty, perhaps something more polite than "Wrong!" next time) but I'm sitting at my computer, and I can see what is using how much memory and when, you can't.

  • Memory usage problem on AIX 7.1

    Hi,
We are running Oracle 11GR2 EE on AIX 7.1 and keep getting alerts on the pgchecks (memory paging).
The alerts are coming from another system monitoring tool (Hobbit), but our sys admins are telling us it is because we are overallocating memory.
In our case, we have an 8G SGA for the only database.
Then, we are running grid and ASM.
How can I check the actual (real) memory usage by individual processes of our Oracle database, our emagent (OMS agent), and for our ASM. In our case, we have 32G of Real Memory installed, and we should not be having a memory paging issue.
For the Oracle database, it is set for 8G.

  • Memory problems: computer freezes on heavy memory usage

Ever since I changed the internal hard drive of my MacBook Pro (I installed a Seagate Barracuda 1Tb disk), I have the following problem:
Whenever an application needs a lot of memory (for example Parallels installing a new Windows system, or Acrobat Pro optimizing a big PDF file), the computer progressively freezes. What I mean by freezing is that I can still move the mouse cursor, but clicking has no effect, and there is no interaction whatsoever with the GUI. Even the clock on the menu bar stops.
I never had the problem before. I guess that under normal conditions the Finder will always keep a few Mb of RAM for its own use. After all I have 4Gb of RAM installed.
Is there some way I can prevent the computer from freezing? Has this something to do with VM? Ever since I changed the hard disk, this problem happens once or twice every day, and the only solution is to force a restart, losing all my work…
Thanks in advance for any advice…

First, do not assign more than half your available RAM to a VM. It's best to let the VM software's configuration to select the amount used by its defaults.
Second, watch how many concurrent applications you attempt to use. Monitor your memory usage in Activity Monitor. If the Available RAM (Inactive RAM plus Free RAM) is low and Free RAM is near zero, then you have too many concurrent applications running. This forces the system to start using the disk-based virtual memory file. With too many apps swapping into the vm file disk thrashing will occur that ultimately can lead to the computer appearing to freeze up or to actually freeze up.
Of course your alternative is to install more RAM if in fact you are over-taxing what you have now. You may find the following helpful reading:
About OS X Memory Management and Usage
Reading system memory usage in Activity Monitor
Memory Management in Mac OS X
Performance Guidelines- Memory Management in Mac OS X
A detailed look at memory usage in OS X
Understanding top output in the Terminal
The amount of available RAM for applications is the sum of Free RAM and Inactive RAM. This will change as applications are opened and closed or change from active to inactive status. The Swap figure represents an estimate of the total amount of swap space required for VM if used, but does not necessarily indicate the actual size of the existing swap file. If you are really in need of more RAM that would be indicated by how frequently the system uses VM. If you open the Terminal and run the top command at the prompt you will find information reported on Pageins () and Pageouts (). Pageouts () is the important figure. If the value in the parentheses is 0 (zero) then OS X is not making instantaneous use of VM which means you have adequate physical RAM for the system with the applications you have loaded. If the figure in parentheses is running positive and your hard drive is constantly being used (thrashing) then you need more physical RAM.

  • High RAM memory usage compared to other systems

I'm suffering with memory usage problems, only in open 2 tabs of facebook(it's only for example, any 'heavy' page freeze also) in firefox*(for example also, but this occur in chromium also) freeze computer.
I've 1GB of memory, it isn't big but also isn't very little.
I'm using XFCE with compiz (yes, compiz, since use a very lightweight openbox-based session doesn't help, then compiz...) when system start (after login) system is consuming 130MB approximately of RAM.
after 1 hour if close all open apps and see memory usage again consume is something about 350MB, "only solution" is reboot.
all applications(htop, free -m,xfce's system monitor...) that I've tried to monitor memory usage show above scenario, except the 'ps_mem' script in AUR.
in the 'ps_mem' script the result is following (with opera browser open, less memory offensive browser but I really prefer firefox):

as you can see in 'ps_mem' memory usage isn't nothing absurdly it's ok.
another example, this problem stop me make certain things, for example is impossible browsing in web while programming in eclipse, this is very uncomfortable.
other thing, this not occur in Windows XP, I can open more than 10 tabs in firefox, and eclipse open, etc...
    any needing information, tell-me!

hotvic, could you please change the title to something more descriptive? 'memory problems' sounds like you have problems e.g. remembering / recalling things, which is not an Arch issue ;P

I cleared the cache and have since set a limit to the cache size of 30 MB for Firefox.  Between multiple users across multiple browser sessions, I had at least 2 GB of cache data on my 10 GB home partition!  So far (1 day), this has been helpful.  Perhaps this could help you also?

OP is talking about RAM, not HDD space.

  • Sudden high memory usage, can't find cause

I did a big update yesterday, and today I've started to notice very high memory usage. I wasn't keeping track before so I can't say how much it increased, but I've never had problems before, and the slowness and lack of responsiveness have been noticeable, though I haven't ruled out other possible causes for that. Here's the output of 'free -m':
total used free shared buffers cached
    Mem: 7971 7826 144 0 1 149
    -/+ buffers/cache: 7674 296
    Swap: 9215 458 8757
It wasn't as bad as that right after startup, though usage still seemed suspiciously high. What makes this whole thing a mystery to me is that none of my running processes seem to be using that much memory!  Here's the output of 'top -b -n 1':

The relevant portion of my pacman log is below, since I don't know how to get just a compact list of the updated packages. Most notably, the kernel was upgrades, from 3.9.9-1 to 3.10.3-1.

Okay, so it turns out that this was caused by the Catalyst bug described in this post. Reverting to the 13.6 version solved the problem. Lesson learned: if there's a ton of memory being used that isn't owned by a running process, start looking for bug reports involving drivers. Especially drivers known for being, well, pretty bad. Was there any method I could have used that would have told me that Catalyst was using all my ram, or is kernel-space memory usage pretty much a black box?

  • Please make the memory usage built-up a top priority to problemsolve.

Hi, Firefox is my favorite browser on OSX) , but the memory usage is really getting annoying. It's been 2 yrs and I have to restart Firefox every couple of hours to keep the memory usage in check. If i don't do that
I think this is a serious issue with your browser. None of the other browsers (Safari, Chrome)I use have this problem, however they're not that user-friendly in my opinion.
Like I said it has been 2 yrs and the forums are filled with this topic, without any real solutions, are there actually people on this problem? It's a pretty big problem, and honestly I don't understand why there's no correspondence from Firefox, that they acknowledge the problem and they're working on it or something.
Before those 2 yrs, never a hitch. The problem must've been introduced since FF21 or 22, not sure.
I'm experiencing exactly the same as "Cyberpawz":
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/958108?page=6
I'm a avid Firefox user and just want the voices of the users experiencing this problem to be heard. And ofcourse the problem to be resolved.
    Thanks for listening!

The memory issues will be real problems, just look at the viewing stats on the thread you linked to
    '' 104 replies, 94 have this problem, 7788 views ''
The easy problems will have been identified and fixed. The difficult or least common ones need users able to help troubleshoot and most just want to complain not file bugs, (Please note such bugs will likely only be followed up if it is a Firefox bug or a problem with a single popular addon).
If you follow the advice from ''Cor-el'' and try with a new profile with all plugins disabled you should find the problem goes away.

  • SQL Server Memory usage is high

    Hello,
One of our production SQL cluster is eating up more memory on server.
Here are the server specifications :
    OS : Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise
    SQL : SQL Server 2008 SP2 standard edition ( 2 node cluster )
Memory : 16 GB ( 8 Gb to SQL and rest to OS )
    CPU : 8
This server is heavily used by CLR and linked server events.
I have seen the memory usage of databases , it's not using more than 7 GB and leaving 1 GB free in sql memory area ( from our Idera SQL dm
monitoring tool ). I'm suspecting CLR events are causing these spikes.
When i look at the task manager sqlserver.exe is using 15.7 Gb ( close to 16 GB )
Not sure how to see which process are using the memory.
Also we are seeing the below error messages in error log very frequently
10/27/2014 15:23:52,spid1s,Unknown,AppDomain 85 (xxxxxx) is marked for unload due to memory pressure.
I have looked at some blogs in internet, i didnt get any correct info. I have seen this is kind of bug in SQL 2005 32-bit system but we are
    using 64 bit system.

Can anyone please help me on this ?
    Thanks in advance

  • How to specify maximum memory usage for Java VM in Tomcat?

Does any one know how to setup memory usage for Java VM, such as "-Xmx256m" parameter, in Tomcat?
I'm using Tomcat 3.x in Apache web server on Sun Solaris platform. I already tried to add the following line into tomcat.properties, like:
    wrapper.bin.parameters=-Xmx512m
However, it seems to me that this doesn't work. So, how about if my servlet will consume a large amount of memory that exceeds the default 64M memory boundary of Java VM?
    Any idea will be appreciated.
    Haohua

With some help we found the fix. You have to set the -Xms and -Xmx at installation time when you install Tomcat 4.x as a service. Services do not read system variables. Go to the command prompt in windows, and in the directory where tomcat.exe resides, type "tomcat.exe /?". You will see jvm_options as part of the installation. Put the -Xms and -Xmx variables in the proper place during the install and it will work.
If you can't uninstall and reinstall, you can apply this registry hack that dfortae sent to me on another thread.
    =-=-=-=-=-=
You can change the parameters in the Windows registry. If your service name is "Apache Tomcat" The location is:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Apache Tomcat\Parameters
Change the JVM Option Count value to the new value with the number of parameters it will now have. In my case, I added two parameters -Xms100m and -Xmx256m and it was 3 before so I bumped it to 5.
Then I created two more String values. I called the first one I added 'JVM Option Number 4' and the second 'JVM Option Number 5'. Then I set the value inside each. The first one I set to '-Xms100m' and the second I set to '-Xmx256m'. Then I restarted Tomcat and observed when I did big processing the memory limit was now 256 MB, so it worked. Hope this helps!
    =-=-=-=-=
I tried this and it worked. I did not want to have to go through the whole reinstallation process, so this was best for me.
Thanks to all who helped on this.

  • Memory usage in iPhoto

    Hi All,
I have a Macbook Unybody, 2 Ghz, with 4 GB RAM. I bought 4GB RAM for managing RAW pics in iPhoto, assuming that 4GB RAM would have boosted Mac performance.
But it seems that my MacBook is not so fast as I though: iPhoto takes several seconds to load a single image (I am talking of 10-12 Mb Raw pics) and , when I load an edited image, loading is even slower.
Again, for instance, if I open an image where I have previously applied red-eye correction, exposure slider does not slide regularly but it gets stuck during the sliding, getting in the right position seconds after I dragged the cursor.
Those are issues of both iPhoto 08 and iPhoto 09. I do not know if files are too big for iPhoto but I though RAM 4GB would have been enough to manage smoothly this king of images.
Is there a way to optimize memory usage in order to get iPhoto as faster as possible? Thanks!

    Pelpa
Not really, is the answer I’m afraid. These machines are just not as fast as the Pro machines, and you are opening large files.
    Regards
    TD

  • UCCX 7 Heap Memory Usage Exceeded Error

    UCCX 7.0.(1) SR5
Getting the following error when updating or adding new script applications:
"It is not recommended to update the application as Engine heap memory usage exceeded configured threshold. Click OK to continue and Cancel to exit."
Apparently this is an alert that was built into SR4 and is configurable under the System Parameters.
Does anyone have information on what processes use the heap memory in UCCX or how to monitor the usage?

As Tom can attest to by now, this is something of an iceberg with big sharp edges below the surface.
The Java heap is fixed at 256MB on CCX. The Java heap is used by Tomcat as execution memory. In addition to this, applications, scripts, and other repository data is loaded into the heap at runtime. Depending on your environment, you may be approaching the limits of the heap, which cannot be changed. If the heap size is reached, it will be dumped and impact calls.
What have you been doing as of late on your CCX server? How many applications and scripts do you have? Are any of these using XML files extensively?
Note there is also a possible bug where the MIVR engine does not properly release all objects loaded into the heap at the end of a script execution leading to a memory leak of sorts. The discussion [debate] over this behavior is continuing. As of this week, it may be represented under

  • I have a huge problem with memory usage.

I am having two very huge problems with the amount of memory the game I'm working on is using. The first is that the background image for a part of my game takes up ~45mb of memory, but believe it or not, that's not my worst problem. i'm not worried about that right now.
The really, really big problem does involve that image, though.
Whn I'm done using the image, I can't get the resources it uses to be freed. As a result, the program uses more and more memory every time you go into that area of the game, because the memory used by tha area is just sitting there.
I used Jprofiler to figure out exactly what wasn't getting released, because I do everything I know how to make everything be garbage collected, including setting all the references to the image to null after you leave that area of the game, but nothing worked.
After I leave the area with the huge memory leak and give everything time to garbage collect, the main screen for memory usage shows about 45mb of memory used by 20 or so instances of int[], which is obviously the image.
However, this obscenely huge int array doesn't show up in the heap snapshot, which according to them means there's no reference to it or the image anywhere in the program.
Here's my question: If there's no reference anywhere to this int array, then why isn't it being garbage collected?

Maybe you haven't actually released all references to that data.
Or if you have one 45mb image, maybe you have a bunch of other huge ones and you're just seeing those.
Why do you have a 45mb background image, though? Can't you use a standard technique like tiling it?

  • Ai CS4 & CS5: Can't move objects, huge memory usage. Tips?

Okay guys this is my first post here, so bear with me.
I'm just wondering if anyone can give guidance or refer me somewhere I can find a solution. I both CS4 and CS5 of Ai installed on my mac. Everything works just great, until I attempt to move an object. Something simple as a single line with freeze my system if I attempt to move it from one location to another.
It is odd. I can scale/transform objects without any issue. Its just when I click an object to drag it to another location my system will freeze for about 5 seconds. The object won't move still. I opened up Activity Monitor and noticed my Memory usage sky rocketed as soon as I tried to move the object.
Is there configurations for memory allocation in Illustrator like there is in photshop?
    (PS I have 3GB RAM and a 120GB HDD with 30GB free space, 2.0 Intel Core 2 processor, it's a 2007 Mac Mini)

How big is the file? and is it complex if so then you simply do not have the resources. Also you might have a font cache issue.
But I think the lack of resources.

  • Ps CS6 Memory usage 14GB from 50 meg file???

    Hey,
Does this memory usage make sense?
I'm working on a 48 meg file, but my RAM usage was up to 13.9 gigs. I just restarted Ps and opened the file and it's up to 10.7 gigs.
Previously I was always maxing out 10 gigs everyday out of 12 available gigs in the machine also working on small files.( 25-30 meg on average) IT tried playing with things forever and finally just tried ordering more RAM. They ended up putting 28 Gigs in the box. And I'm really not seeing any advantage in Photoshop, other than my system still runs OK outside of Ps while I'm working. (Well Rhino 3D still crashes from being out of memory, even though there was still 6 gigs free??? but that's for another forum) Mostly it just freaks me out how much RAM it's using for such a small file...?
I'm just drawing, no filters, not too many layer masks. I do have maybe 15-20 vector smart objects in the file, and I'm at 147 layers. The issue I was having is Pen lag on the Cintiq when I draw starts getting horrible as the RAM usage gets higher. I had been restarting Photoshop constantly to get it to release RAM. But I haven't the last couple days since they doubled the RAM in the machine. And obviously on restart the file still needed a lot of RAM???
Anyone got any sugestions? I can live with the lag, sucks, but I can still work. I just don't understand why these small files are using so much RAM. Back in the day on 32 bit systems with 4gigs of RAM I would sometimes create posters/covers/magazine spreads that were 1.5- even 4 gigs that would have to be saved as Tiff's because PS didn't support a file that big. This machine runs like that everyday. At home I've been doing some freelance book covers that get up to 450 megs now and then and it still runs better, Cintiq at home draws smoother than this machine that costs 3-4 times more!
It's a win 7 64 bit box, 2 Dual core 2.4 Xeons. two quadro 2000's, now 28GB ram, OS on a 560?GB drive with files on a Terrabyte drive that gets backed up. My hardrives arent rated very high, 5.9, but at least im working local to the machine as the network is slow as heck around here!
Thanks for any suggestions anyone might have!

Your issue is stroke lag drawing.  You state nothing about the brush and tool being used.  Looking at your hardware and knowing Photoshop is using a lot of ram its most likely swapping a lot ram to scratch disk space.   Faster disk may help. Also having two quadro 2000 does not improve Photoshop performance over having just one.   Yes Photoshop does not give back RAM it allocate during a session even if you close all the open documents.  This may well not be a bad thing. Photoshop is surly managing the RAM space it allocates. Having a lot of ram to work with may well cut down on Photoshop RAM swapping and speed thing up.
Your lag problem may not be a ram problem.   Some brushes require GPU support and the size of the rush can easily increase lag.  For example if I boot my machine and look at RAM used window 7 64bit professional I see 3.5GB allocated 36.5GB free. If I start CS6 open a new document 11"X 14" 300dpi fill it with a spectrum gradient I see 5GB of ram. In use.   If I select the mixer brush tool and a large brush size and make quick brush strokes there is quite a bit of lag and my video card is a quadro 4000 a little faster then your quadro 2000.  My swap space is on SSD much faster then spinning disk ratting 7.9 out of 7.9.... and I have dual 6 core xeons.
Some brush type tools like blur, smudge, dodge, burn sharpen require a lot of sequential repetitive processing .. a large tip smudge always seems lag on forever... Its the repetitive nature of the processes that cause the latency not so much the compute power.
