BillPay won't work in Tiger w/FF, works fine w/FF on PC

I have the same problem in Safari, Firefox, Netscape, and Camino. I can log into my bank account and view the balance and transactions, but as soon as I click the BillPay tab (where it jumps to a different server/app that processes the bills -- in this case CheckFree), I always get a message that says "The connection to the server was reset".
This works fine on a pc w/firefox but not on my PowerBook w/Safari or Firefox, so the common denominator seems to be the OS.
I've contacted FF support and ATT support and they have no idea.
I even tried a User Agent app so I could mimic IE 7 and that didn't work either (I did this because I know many banks code specifically to IE only).
Any ideas?

Thanks for the reply. Turns out it was an ISP issue. I don't know what the explanation is but this weekend I was coincidentally switching from AT&T DSL to Comcast cable for my internet connection and once the cable was up and running, I signed in to OLB and successfully connected to BillPay the very first try! (I was stoked).
Even so, the question remains... why would the ISP give a **** where I go to pay my bills. I don't get it, but I'm quite happy my issue is resolved... and my internet connection is faster.

  • Can't sign in to my bank since upgrading to Firefox 4, no error message, sign in button won't work, fine with IE?

Upgraded to Firefox 4 yesterday. Have since had a problem logging into my bank. I enter all log in details, click the sign in button and nothing happens, the page just remains static, there are no error messages. No problem logging in with Internet Explorer or on a separate computer with Firefox 3 so it must be Firefox 4 that's causing the problem. It's just this one site, all other sites I use requiring log in work fine. It can't be a problem with the site because as I said it works fine with IE and Firefox 3?? Help!

Have now ditched Firefox 4 and reinstalled the previous version-the problem has disappeared, doesn't say much for the new version!

  • Quicktime broadcaster won't work since upgrade to Tiger!

this is probably the worst experience i've had trying to get support from Apple. nothing remotely resembling my problem is anywhere in the knowledge base. here's the deal...
i used broadcaster every week prior to upgrade without any problems...NOW...i am unable to "enable video stream" since upgrading to Tiger. All I can broadcast is audio.
I EVEN have AppleCare support for my computer but Apple still won't help me!!!! I spent all day on this and need it to work TOMORROW MORNING! didn't expect any problems since it worked fine before.
    Signed,
A disappointed customer who has used Apple Computers for 20+ years!

Okay....after a few more hours I decided to reinstall Quicktime Player and then re-enter my quicktime Pro registration key. Now it works. I'm still disappointed that Apple wouldn't help me with this though. Not the service I'm used to.
So...quicktime broadcaster users be advised of this need to reinstall quicktime after upgrading to Tiger. It wasn't just my g5 that was affected...I checked it out on my g4 powerbook and also had the same problem.

  • "new" iTunes 10 Library won't work with Tiger

I have my music on an external hard drive. I can move it between my "office" digital audio G-4 tower (running Tiger 10.4.11) which has beautiful sounding Harmon Kardan external speakers, and my newer 2009 iMac "work" computer, running Leopard. All was fine until I upgraded the iMac's iTunes to 10.1. Now my library won't work on the Tiger "office" machine because it was "created" with a newer iTunes. I can't load iTunes 10 onto the G-4 because of 10.1's system requirements. Any way I can get my music playing again on both machines? Thank you. Joe

You are a genius, Limnos; should be at the genius bar. Shame on Apple for NOT warning us that an upgrade to iTunes 10.x will kill compatibility with previous versions. I followed your directions, discarded v10, replaced the iTunes Library with the last one in the Previous folder, downloaded v9.2.1 and I was in business on both machines! I'm listening to old Mayall & Clapton right now on the better speakers, but older machine. Thanks again! Joe

  • I have a G5 with Tiger to sell and want to erase all my data from it, but the cd drive won't work so I can't use the OS10 start up disk. Answers?

I have a G5 to sell and want to erase all my data from it, but the cd drive won't work so I can't use the OS10 start up disk. Any way to do it?

Do you have another Mac? If so, you can startup this one in "Target Disk Mode" (instructions here) and connect it to another Mac to delete the home folders (or the entire drive, if that's what you want).
One piece of advise, though: after deleting the data, and of course emptying the Trash, it wouldn't hurt to also securely erase the "free space" of the drive (instructions here) before disconnecting the old Mac from the new one. This can be helpful, since "deleted" data is often retrievable with ease unles it's written over after the deletion.

  • Umax Vistascan 3.5.2 won't work in Tiger

Can't believe I'm back here bugging yous with another Tiger problem, but here I am.
My old Umax VistaScan Astra 2200 works fine in OS9 and fine in Panther via a Classic program. It will not work in Tiger using the same Classic program. I don't believe I have software in Tiger from which I can scan, so I can't test it from Tiger. I really don't know what I am missing or need.
    Someone, save me again!
    Patt

The question that mystifies me is, why does Panther and the Astra 2200 work together?
Call it either a fluke, or luck. With every release of an operating system, there are over 24,000 devices listed on http://guide.apple.com/ that may or may not work well together. A lot has to do with drivers adhering to specs on http://developer.apple.com/ that are improved for capabilities on certain hardware, while may not notice the differences with other hardware which has basically not had its drivers kept up to date. You are basically depending on either Apple's generic scanner drivers not to change so far for the ability to be recognized through Classic to not change, or Umax's drivers to not be rendered obsolete by changes in the operating system. Operating systems are moving targets when it comes to drivers. They are not necessarily cumulative, since creating an environment for all drivers to work together is impossible, as is evidenced by kernel panics that suddenly appear with new operating systems and driver updates that are driver related.
The net result is you need to find out what mix of hardware and software is known to work well together, or backup your past operating system before upgrading to a new one to make sure you haven't suddenly dug yourself a hole or built yourself a jalopy.
There are plenty of Mac OS X supporting scanners. But it sounds to me that your Astra's drivers have basically lost the game of Russian roulette with the operating system updates.

  • Upgrade to Tiger, Safari won't work... Help.!!!

I just upgraded to Tiger from Panther. Safari no longer works... I am not computer savvy and I can't figure out what to do. I know it is not my connection because I.E. is working fine,, although a few sites said I was Forbidden. What?? Please Help! I am running on an imac G5.

    Lily's Mom:
    Questions:
    1. Do you have internet apps SpeedDownload, iGetter, PithHelmet, Acid Search, Safari Enhancer ? Or Norton or Virex? Sometimes non-apple internet apps need updating or uninstalling. If you do, let us know which ones and which version, please.
    2. Do you have one of the new iMac Intel Duo's?
In the meanwhile, do these, OK?
    Have you done these?
    1. Empty your cache & History settings via the Safari menu
    2. Trash your Icons Folder:
    HD>Users>Home>YourName>Library>Safari -->Icons
Restart Safari and a new folder will be automatically regenerated.
(This folder saves favicons of all the sites you visit. Needs cleaning periodically -- or you can change that file's preferences to "Read Only"
rather than "Read & Write." This will keep it from growing in size.)
    3. Launch Font Book and check all fonts for duplicates. A duplicated font will have a bullet beside the font family and you can resolve duplicates by selecting the font and at the menu bar, go to Edit > Resolve Duplicates.
Do this for each font with a bullet next to it.
    If you're still having problems:
    4. Shut down your computer . . . unplug the computer, modem, and router, if you have one. Let everything sit for 2-3 minutes. Plug everything back in, start up your modem & router, then restart your computer.
    Hope this helps

  • Scanner and Printer Drivers Won't Work After Clean Tiger Reinstall

Installed clean copy of 10.4 and 10.4.10 blanket update because iBook was slow and seemed encumbered with something I couldn't discern. Got drivers from the web and ran permissions repair as suggested in answer in another forum, but the problem remains. Printer is Epson C88 and scanner is 2450. They worked fine before the clean reload.????

What is the full name of the printer ( Stylus, Color, etc.) and how is it connected?
If USB, check that the ports are working, if not you will need to reset them by powering down everything, and do mean everything (disconnect all power, battery bricks, etc.) let it cool down then replace them. Then boot up from the install CD and run Disk Repair plus Repair Permissions.
Also, what software are you using to scan? Have you tried Image Capture?

The help in the mail programme on OSX 10.4 won't work; the small window appears but nothing comes up and I have to force quit to close it. I'm trying to send an attachment and finding it impossible. I don't know if this is the right place to ask this but I'm lost. The help in the mail programme on OSX 10.4 won't work...
It's alright, but a better place to post questions about Tiger's Mail application would be the Mac OS X > Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger > Mail & Address Book discussion area.

  • HT1338 my 5th generation ipod won't sync anymore to my PowerMac G4.  It worked fine, but when I installed a new hard drive it won't work anymore.

my 5th generation ipod won't sync anymore to my PowerMac G4.  It worked fine, but when I installed a new hard drive it won't work anymore.  I've re-installed iTunes, the latest version for Tiger, I've reset and restored my iPod.  The ipod shows up fine in the source banner and I can transfer files to it, however when I unplug the iPod the files are not there.

Maybe try to repair the iPod's HD using Disk Utility located in the Applications -> Utilities folder.  If that doesn't help, try a low level reformat of the drive using the same application.  Make sure you choose Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) as the file system format.

  • External Optical Speakers won't work on my G5

I have a Power Mac G5 running Tiger 10.4.11 and Logictech 5.1 Dolby Surround Sound Speakers. I had them setup with this system a few years ago and then upgraded to leopard and compatibility was fine. My HDD recently died and I lost my leopard disc so now I'm back to Tiger since that's what the backup discs are. Now that I got a new HDD and loaded the software the speakers won't work. The speakers themselves are fine. I can use the remote to test each speaker which sends pink noise to each one. That proves the connections are fine and the speakers aren't bad. I checked the connection to the optical port in the back of the tower and it is lit up red so that's good. I tested the speakers playing music and playing a DVD and neither worked so it's something to do with the computer not recognizing them. Headphones work just fine with it. In the Sound pane under Digital Out it says "The selected device has no output controls". According to the help tutorial it says I should see the speaker in the System Profiler, which I don't, but it doesn't go further into 'if you don't see them'. Anyone know other options I can try?

I have a macbook pro retina which doesn's have an optical drive. I have bought an optical drive. When I plug it in and put a disk in I can hear the disk spinning and the light comes on but nothing happens on my mac. It doesn't seem to recognise it. Any suggestions?
Just had that happen to me.
First, run Disk Utility and see if the SuperDrive (it is an Apple SuperDrive isn't it?) is listed. Is the disk you inserted shown? If not, hold down the option key and click the Apple menu - choose System Information and when that shows up, choose USB. See if it's listed there. If it is but neither the drive nor the disk you inserted appears on the Desktop, the side bar of the Finder window, or Disk Utility, return it for a refund (if it's within 14 days of purchase) or a replacement. That's what I had to do a few hours ago and the replacement works as it should.
BTW, if you want the disk you inserted back, and pressing the trackpad as you reboot doesn't eject the disk, as a last resort run Terminal and enter (copy and paste the following)
    /usr/bin/drutil eject
to try to force the disk to eject. It probably won't work (it didn't for me) but if it does, at least you get that disk back.

Yes, it is only compatible with OS X Tiger and above (as stated in system requirements).
It doesn't appear you can use it 'natively' with iTunes, but, someone has posted some third party programs you could use in this topic:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6194929
They included "Floola, Songbird, or Yamipod". Greg Saylor (who posted this) says Floola is his favourite.
    Good Luck :)!

  • A particular widget won't work for a particular user

I recently upgraded from 10.3.9 to 10.4.6. After trying out various widgets I have hit on a curious problem: the Unit Converter widget that is installed with the system will not work on my user account. It works on other user accounts. It works on a new "test" user account. But on my account, the widget just seems to hang: it appears, but the menus stay empty and I cannot type anything into the number fields. On other accounts this is the way it looks before it has loaded. And the same thing happens on both computers! All other widgets (Apple and third-party) seem to work fine on my account.
    I have tried the following:
    - trashed com.apple.dashboard.client.plist
    - trashed com.apple.dashboard.plist
    - trashed caches/dashboardclient
    - repaired permissions with disk utility
    - cleaned up caches with Applejack
    - uninstalled and re-installed widgets
but the problem is still there.
The Activity Monitor tells me that the Unit Converter DashboardClient is using between 80% and 94% of CPU.
What could be special about my user account that is preventing Unit Converter from working?

Thanks for the advice, Niel. Interestingly enough, the Unit Converter had not created a plist file. I did try you suggestion of dragging all the widget plist files to the desktop, but the Unit Converter still didn't work.
But I have now found the solution. The problem was being caused by a custom number format that I had inherited from the Panther installation. In Tiger it's impossible to set a custom number format - the number format is set automatically for each region and it's impossible to change it. But it was possible to set a custom number format in Panther and it is recognized by Tiger. So I can either keep using my custom number format, in which case Unit Converter won't work, or set one of the standard number formats, in which case Unit Converter works (I see that now it actually launches, it has also created its plist file: eveidently the file didn't exist before because the widget had never got as far as creating it).
I think it's very bad that Apple removed the custom number format feature. And since the old custom number format from Panther was recognized by the new system, it's also bad that this widget doesn't work with it.
But at least I've found the solution to my own problem!

  • Apple is selling a game that won't Work, for now.

The game in question is "HeavyMach2". Apple has discounted it from $.99 to .99. Thing is, the game cannot be played. Why? Because the developers are based in Japan. So, why sell a game that cannot be played? It's info goes over WiFi, and until Japan is able to get some kind of normalcy (may God watch over them), Heavy Mach 2 will not be playable.
I think it's pretty chintzy of Apple to take this kind of advantage during the disasters going on over there.

  • Adobe Apps Won't Work

I upgraded to Tiger finally. Upgraded to Final Cut Studio as well. After the upgrades, all Adobe Products decided to quit working. Also, DVD Studio Pro won't work either.
    System Information:
    - Dual 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5, 4 GB DDR SDRAM, Running 10.4.6 with all the latest software updates installed.
I have tried to repair disk permissions, delete preferences, delete .plists, ran Onyx and nothing has worked. As well, Tiger just seems to run slower compared to Panther.
    Photoshop 7.0.1:
    - "Could not initialize Photoshop because there is not enough memory (RAM)."
    Illustrator 10.0.3:
    - Bounces twice in the dock and that's it.
    After Effects 6.0:
    - "After Effects error: Unkown Bravo Error"
    - "After Effects error: invalid container"
    - "After Effects error: Not enough memory to initialize AGM."
At this point, the only thing I know to do is erase the whole hard drive and start over. Any suggestions?

Well, I wiped the hard drive clean and re-installed everything and now the Adobe Apps work fine...
