Bind a UiComponent to manage bean

The parameter you pass to the addPartialTarget method is indeed the java representation of a ui component. In your code I miss the component you want to refresh.
The normal way to get the component reference is to look it up in the page structure by its id. For this you can use e.g.

Binding the component directly to the bean is only a possibility if the beans memory scope is request.

Put the query in a VO and execute it the usual way.
If you need to, you can write a parameterized method in VOImpl that executes the VO query with the parameter and then call that method from the UI (as a methodAction binding) either through the managed bean or via a direct button click on the page.

Can I set the value of a list binding in my managed bean?

This is just an exercise for me and I just wanted to experiment on the bindings of ADF for me to understand it further.
I wanted to create a custom Model Driven LOV with my data control listed below
Countries
     -CountryId
     -CountryName..but I wanted to display the label similar to this
1 - USA
2 - England
n - France..so I thought of manipulating the select items in a bean

Problem with Action binding for a command button in a Managed Bean

I am trying to use a backing bean for a button action binding.
I followed all steps as they seems to be correct. i did not made any changes directly by hand , all of changes are introduced by oracle
Jdeveloper wizards. but now i get this exception
Managed bean is defined in faces-config.xml (it shows in preview mode) , the method is there in managed bean (Jdeveloper itself create the method i just enter its name)

Setting bind variable for a view object from the Managed Bean

Hi,
i am using JDeveloper 11g, i have to create LOV in the JSF. To show the LOV, it has to populate data using View object and its query parameter need to be sent from the Managed Bean.
For the View object i want to set the bind variable parameter from the managed bean value. bename is stored in a managed bean (session scope)
#{beantest.bename}
But it gives the following exception.

Hi,
a bind variable in a VO needs to be exposed as an executeWithParams operation in the pageDef file. Just add a new action binding to the pageDef file (context menu) and select the executeWithParams operation on teh VO. Then in the argument field, reference the managed bean property for the value

Binding ADF UI components to managed beans instead of using bindings

Hi All,
We are working on a ADF based development project and we have complex data input forms.
We have close to 200 input forms for different products and each form has different details.
Requirement is to store the data captured in the input forms as XML in database instead of storing the information in relational tables to avoid creating tables for each of the 200 products.
We are planning to capture user input in page flow scoped managed beans and when user save the data, generate the XML from managed bean data and store the XML string in DB using ADF BC.
So we would develop the UI more like a normal J2ee application using JSF where managed beans are used to collect data, and then use ADF BC for database persistence.
Is it a good practice to bind the managed beans to UI bypassing the bindings? (We can't use bindings as we store data in XML format).

That is not the right way to get the component, #{it1} is not valid.
Here is the sample code to get the component by id, but is not recommended as you should know the parent component ids as well and it would be difficult to maintain in long run:

Binding af:selectOneChoice to value in managed bean

Hi all,
I am trying to create a simple screen that has a selectOneChoice that allows the user to change the value of a property in a session-scoped managed bean. I've got a View Object that will display the values for the user to select. I can easilly set the value on my managed bean in an actionlistener when the user clicks "OK"
However, I have these problems:
1). I can't find any way to put an af:selectOneChoice on the screen without binding it to something. I want to bind it to a value in a managed bean - how to do this?
2). I tried creating a "dummy" view object (select :bindVariable from dual) and then put an executeWithParams in the executable of my page to set the bind variable to the backing bean value. I then bound the selectOneChoice to that field from the VO. This worked fine the first time, but the second time I tried to call it in the same session, it bombed with JBO errors. This also seems like a very inefficient and round-about way to accomplish this task.
Can anyone provide any pointers as to how I might accomplish this? If it would help, my use case is this: a user is logged on with "super-user" athority and can review information from any of the field offices. The field office ID that the user is currently looking at is stored in the session-scoped bean. I need a way for the user to change what field office they are reviewing.

Wow - this is harder than I thought....
I have got something working in a rudimentary fashion, although I'm not completely satisfied yet. What I did was to create my own List binding in the page definiton that looks like this:

</list>I then dropped a selectOneChoice from the component pallette (not the data control pallette) on to my page. The f:SelectItems component inside the af:SelectOneChoice, I bound the value property to "#{bindings.OfficeId.items}" I could not find any documentation on this, but it seems to work. The only issue is that my list shows both the office name and the id (I'd like to show the name and hide the id).
Then, in my backing bean action listener bound to the OK button, I do:

The problem is that you're missing a converter. JSF needs to convert your values from Strings into Projects and vica verca.
When you do the form submission the values are passed as strings along with the labels. JSF isn't smart enough to convert them automatically.

Problems with managed beans on included JSPs

I've got a problem with managed beans within an included JSP
The included page looks as follows:

By "page scope" I assume you mean "none"? If so JSF creates a new bean for each place it's referenced. The closest to the behavior you want, once per "page", is really request scope.
(I'm not sure why the constructor is being called thrice, though. I should look into this.)
I assume you want a bean-per-subview scenario. This should be doable, and one way that allows a dynamic number of subviews would be as follows:
--create a "manager" bean in request scope
--give it get/set methods that retrieves a Map of "TestBean" instances; the idea is that each subview use a different key "s1", "s2", etc
back the manager method with Map implementation that checks if there's already a TestBean associated with the key returns it if yes, else null.

Error while opening a popup from managed bean

Hi,
I am trying to open a popup from bean, after another popup is closed. When I open the second popup either through ActionListener(on first popup button) or DialogListener(on first popup), I am getting the below error on browser status bar(!); and the second popup doesn't open. There is no error in the log.

Although the popup id is there on the jspx page.

To find out the right address of a component related to an other component, open your page select the component you want to add a partial trigger, go to the partial trigger property, select the down arrow at the right end and select 'Edit'. Now look for the popup in the component tree shown on the left side. When you have found the popup shuffle it the the selected side and click OK. The string you see in the field is the full address of the popup related to he component you've selected. Try the string you see there in your bean code. Remove the string from the partial trigger property, it's just to get the correct path.
One other thing to check is that your popup has the ClientComponent property set to true.
Next thing to try, is to use AdfPage.PAGE.findComponentByAbsoluteId(...)

Hi,
managed beans and backing beans are quite the same in that the Java object is managed by the JavaServer Faces framework. Manage in this respect means instantiation. The difference is that backing beans contain component "binding" references, which managed beans usually don't. Do backing beans are page specific versions of managed beans.
Managed beans are configured either in the faces-config.xml file, or using ADF Faces and ADFc, in the adfc-config.xml file
