Binding Data (xml) Successfully

Hi .... This is definitely a newbie question ... assistance appreciated.
I am having no problems getting data to preview properly, either using xml sample data or an ole connection to a database. I am guessing that for distribution where the data "travels" with the pdf (i.e. does not have a live connection to a server) there is an ability to make that happen. Checking the data binding in the Object Palette confirms the binding is "there".
But I can't figure out how to get the data to preview when I leave the LiveCycle Designer Environment and open up the pdf independently. I just get the form with textboxes that are empty. The simple idea is to bind the data for email distribution to recipients who will then update the existing content and return for manual re-import/update into the original database.
This is so newbie that it would seem like something easily found on the web or in books, but I'm not finding it anywhere including the Adobe Press book I purchased on LiveCycle Design.
Any help or direction to instructions/tutorials would be appreciated ... thank you .
Marc

Hi Paul,
Thanks again for replying in the forum ... didn't know you'd be emailing me too.
I've been very busy at work and haven't tried your suggestions yet, but I will for sure (soon!).

The data needs to be merged onto the template (this is what is happening in the preview). You have 3 options to accomplish this:
1. Load the empty form and import the data. There are menu items for this or you can add a button on the form that asks the user for the file to import.
2. You can put a reference in the data file to the location of the template and have the user load he data file which in turn loads the template.
3. You can use LiveCycle server to merge the data and template together to make a prefilled PDF file.
Hope that helps

• Binding Datagrid XML Data

Hi,
Summary: I cannot get my DataGrid binding with XML data.
Specifically, I cannot bind a DataGridColumn with a child of a
child using the dataField property. However, I can bind with a
direct child.
I'm currently building an application where I retrieve data
from a XML database and contact it through posting a XQuery to the
database. I set the resultFormat of my HTTPServer to "e4x".
quote:
<mx:HTTPService id="searchRequest" url="
http://localhost:8080/exist/rest/db/"
contentType="application/xml" useProxy="false"
method="POST" resultFormat="e4x" />
I receive this data:
quote:
<exist:result exist:hits="1" exist:start="1"
exist:count="1" xmlns:exist="
http://exist.sourceforge.net/NS/exist">
<schedule>
<tournament>
<sport>Testing Our DTD</sport>
<tname>Well-formed Document</tname>

<mdate>Oct. 12, 2007</mdate>
<competitor>
<cname>sd</cname>

</competitor>

<location>
<city>San Luis Obispo</city>
<state>CA</state>
<country>USA</country>

</location>
<tv>SVN</tv>

Basic testing...

</match>
</tournament>
</schedule>
</exist:result>
I receive the data fine however, I cannot nested
elements of the XML nodes I retrieve. Here is my data grid.
quote:
<mx:DataGrid id="grid" width="446" height="100%"
dataProvider="{searchRequest.lastResult.schedule.tournament.match}"
enabled="true">
<mx:columns>
<mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Tournament" />
<mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Match Date"
dataField="mdate" />
<mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Sport" />
<mx:DataGridColumn headerText="City"
dataField="location.city"/>
<mx:DataGridColumn headerText="State"
dataField="location.state"/>
</mx:columns>
</mx:DataGrid>
The 'mdate' shows up however, 'location.city'
and 'location.state' do not. I am not sure how the dataField works.
Does it get the 'current' node and allow me to drill down in the
XML node?
I will note that I can get it working with a labelFunction
and an ItemRenderer. I feel that using either of those methods for
this is a bit verbose.

The default DGColumn picks up the property value by doing
data[dataField]. Due to this the nested value would not be picked
up.
By extending DGColumn and overriding the itemToLabel function
it is possible to get the desired functionality by adding code to
detect "field1.field2" kind of dataField value and returning the
nested value.
This custom DGColumn can be used whererever the functionality
is desired.

• Oracle EPM 11.1.2 issue with system-jazn-data.xml & HIT entries

Have been working on configuring Oracle EPM 11.1.2 and have one final issue from the diagnostic utility that I cannot figure out. Configuration sequence is as follows and each step is installed in its own database:
Step 1 - Foundation/Shared Services/Calc Mgr/EPMA/Essbase to a single relational DB. I am not configuring the web server until the final step.
Step 2 - Hyperion Performance Scorecard
Step 3 - Planning
Step 4 - Profitability
Step 5 - RA and configure web server.
I have used both SQL Server Express 2008 and Oracle DB 11g and get the same result.
When I complete the install, restart all of the services, and run the diagnostic utility, I get a failure with foundation services indicating that the file "system-jazn-data.xml" cannot be found. No real help is provided with the error message and have found no help in the docs or on the web. I have searched the disk and the file seems to be in the proper place per the docs. I have done partial configs and do not get the error. I have then compared the system-jazn-data.xml file from the successful config to the system-jazn-data.xml file from the failed config they are identical. Both files seem to be bloated with tens of thousands of lines, most of them blank.
I had reached a point where I thought the issue was related to Performance Scorecard and removed that step. I am now getting the error again.
Anyone seeing this issue? Is it just a bogus message in the diagnostic report and can be ignored? Any other thoughts?
Thanks
EPMCloud

Update - After going through the install many more times, I still do not know what the issue is, but I believe I have figured out how to resolve it. It appears that if you go back (after everything is installed and configured) and reconfigure the application server for Foundation services, the issue is corrected.
I am running some final test now and if I discover something different, I will update the post.

• How to bind data for a UDO table..on to MATRIX

hi
i have created a Master Data Table(Video) and also created UDO object...
i designed a form with 2 controls as text boxes and a matrix with some coloums.........
the functioality of the form is ..when i enter some values in those controls...it should get data from DB table and should be displayed in matrix on my form. based on condition what i have entered on form controls...
i have done the same scenario successfully when i'm dealing with other controls like textboxes...by binding data to the controls from DB..

• Radio Button binding to XML

Based on the examples
here
and
here
I have a datagrid which uses an XML object as its dataprovider. The
xml goes like this:
<questions>
<question>
<prompt>What are your heroes?</prompt>
<answers>
<answer>
<correct>true</correct>
<text>Luther Higgs</text>
</answer>
<answer>
<correct>false</correct>
<text>Barney Fife</text>
</answer>
</answers>
</question>
</questions>
Well formed (if a bit confusing) xml. In my datagrid I have
two columns. The second column binds to
questions.question.answers.answer.text and works just fine. The
datagrid's editable property is set to true, and I'm able to click
on the second colum and type and it saves the answer back into the
xml object just fine. The problem lies in my first column. The mxml
looks like this:
<mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Correct">
<mx:itemRenderer>
<mx:Component>
<mx:VBox horizontalAlign="center">
<mx:RadioButton id="myRadioButton"
buttonMode="true" useHandCursor="true"
group="{outerDocument.myRadioButtonGroup}"
selected="{data.correct}"/>
</mx:VBox>
</mx:Component>
</mx:itemRenderer>
</mx:DataGridColumn>
The problem is that the radio buttons' selected properties
aren't bound to the xml, that is the one that is true doesn't
display as selected. If I set the datagridcolumn's editable
property to false, clicking on the radio button doesn't affect the
xml at all either. If I leave the editable property of the
datagridcolumn as the inherited default of true (based on the
parent datagrid's editable property) when I click on the radio
button the default itemEditor appears (a text input box) which
contains the following text:
</answer>
and when I leave the editor (click outside or hit enter) the
xml then looks like this:
<answers>
<answer>
<correct>true</correct>
<text>Luther Higgs</text>
</answer>
<answer>
<correct>false</correct>
<text>Barney Fife</text>
<null><answer>
<correct>false</correct>
<text>Barney Fife</text>
</answer></null>
</answer>
</answers>
I have seen controls that don't have the xml path written
correctly display the entire xml node rather than just the
contained data, but I can think of no reason anything should Ever
reference just the closing tag. To me this looks like a bug in the
data bindings between the radio button and the xml object.
Just to clear the air to avoid suggestions that will work but
not meet the design requirements, what I need is a datagrid that
has a radio button group (only one correct answer out of the group)
in the first column and strings in the second column which need to
be editable. I suppose I could write some hairy event listener code
and manually hack things together, but aside from avoiding that
headache, I'd love to use data bindings for what they were intended
for - I just need to know why it doesn't appear to be working
right. Much thanks in advance for any and all help.

Searching the LiveDocs revealed the answer. Under the topic
"Using an E4X expression in an <mx:Binding> tag" I found that
if instead of
<mx:RadioButton id="myRadioButton"
buttonMode="true" useHandCursor="true"
group="{outerDocument.myRadioButtonGroup}"
selected="{data.correct}"/>
I have
<mx:RadioButton id="myRadioButton"
buttonMode="true" useHandCursor="true"
group="{outerDocument.myRadioButtonGroup}"/>
<mx:Binding source="myRadioButton.selected"
destination="data.correct" />
It works just perfectly.
Apparently binding between XML and the selected property of a
radio button (which is of type boolean) needs the <mx:Binding
/> rather than the in-tag curly brace notation.

• Binding an XML file into LiveCycle

Currently we are using a .dat file to populate a .docx file, but we are having issues with layout and formatting and I want to switch it to using a PDF.
I have found lots of information on adding an XML Data Connection to a PDF, but nothing to do with troubleshooting. I created a simple XML file with three fields and I was able to connect it to a dynamic PDF and then generate the fields into the document. Now when I preview the PDF the values dont fill in, nor when I open it in Reader.
I have tested this on Designer ES2 and ES3 and Reader X.
I cant seem to find a way to attach the XML and PDF, but i will include the XML for reference:

<draft>
<number>100040</number>
<entered>02-18-2015</entered>

</draft>

Hello,
I believe I spoke too soon, the data now binds when I Preview the PDF in LiveCycle, but when I save it and then open it in Acrobat Pro or Reader, it does not bind the XML data in.
Any help is appreciated.

• How to bind a XML file to a dropdown list

Hello. I am trying to bind a XML file to a dropdown list as taught in the LiveCycle Designer Help. I created a XML file containing the following codes:

<lists>

</lists>

Then I connected to this XML file, created a dropdown list and then specified its dynamic properties as below:
However, when previewing this pdf this dropdown list seems empty. Nothing comes out. It seems to me a very basic question but I really need your help. Thanks !
Also, I would be very appreciated if someone could post me an working example of this.

Well I found out what was wrong.
You have to indicate the XML file in the filed "Data File" of "Preview" in the " Form Properties"....

• Jazn-data.xml file, authentication in web.xml and embedded oc4j

I've defined new security-roles, security-constraints and an authentication method in my web.xml file and i've created a new jazn-data.xml file that holds the different users and their groups.
If I want to link the security-roles of the web.xml file to the roles in the jazn-data.xml file I always need an orion-application.xml file, is this correct?
If I want to deploy an application as this to the embedded container the security won't work, I'm always getting the '403 forbidden' page.
Can somebody point me out how I need to define security for an embedded and standalone environment when using authentication and jazn-data.xml file + how do I deploy this to a standalone oc4j and how to get this same application to work in the embedded oc4J.

Part of the answer to "Can somebody point me out how I need to define security ..." can probably be found in the "Oracle ADF Developer's Guide" that has "18 Adding Security to an Application".

• Binding data to custom method in DataAction

hi!
I am using adf uix and struts.
I am confronted with the following problem: I created a DataAction for calling a custom method of an ApplicationModule. How do I bind data from the DataContainer in the struts-config?
All how-tos figure out only the binding through ${param.<paramName>}.
Isn't it possible to address the DataContainer through ${data.<UIModelName>.<BindingName>}? My intention is to bind a column value from an uix edit form to a custom method!
I attached an excerpt for the illustration of my problem:
<action name="DataForm" path="/RolleZuordnen" className="oracle.adf.controller.struts.actions.DataActionMapping" type="oracle.adf.controller.struts.actions.DataAction">
<set-property property="modelReference" value="RolleZuordnenUIModel"/>

Have you reviewed the ADF Binding Primer whitepaper...

• 10.1.3 - what happened to jazn-data.xml?

I tried to run my application, unchanged from 10.1.2 to 10.1.3, and things aren't going so well.
1. I can't login anymore. I use a simple jazn-data.xml configuration for authentication, but the documentation talks about a system-jazn-data.xml file. If I use the embedded oc4j server and add any more accounts, they are added the jazn-data.xml deployment descriptor for my application. I also added a jazn.xml file to point to this file (did not have in 10.1.2). The documentation talks about an adf-config.xml file for the PROJECT, but says it should be in the workspace/.adf folder. The docs also mention a system-jazn-data.xml file, but this is not a deployment type file. When I examined my workspace the workspace-oc4j-app.xml file has a pointer to a jazn.com file, which I'm unsure how to change inside the application. If I REMOVE this from my "config" via embedded oc4j, it gets added back in. Where is this coming from, and why? What are the steps to get jazn/jaas working with this, easily?
2. I can't get into the database anymore. All I can say is that it is UNCHANGED, and the connection information is present.
3. The migration of the system settings is a definite action to SKIP. When I migrated I could not access the "check for update wizard" wizard.
4. I haven't had much time to review any docs, but this appears to be a substantial change from the way the 10.1.2 bindings and page life-cycle work. I'm somewhat confused about why this appears to be such a major shift, feeling somewhat abandoned that I went this route - I'm not ready to jump on the JSF bandwagon at this point - even though it's been 3+ years in the making.
a) What's the suggested alternative to a DataAction for invoking an application module service method?
b) The saveErrors method disappears with no replacement. Was this a fluke or did my documentation just not print properly?
c) My data forward actions are inaccessible from the struts-config via a right click on the action class. Am I missing something here? Do I have to go back to the application navigator to get to them?
5. Why does the help:print option provide no means to access the printer properties? If I can't print duplex, or change the margins, and the text in the right margin gets truncated, you might want to just disable the print icon altogether.
I hope this doesn't appear to be knee-jerk reaction. I would really expect an application written in 10.1.2 to run UNCHANGED in 10.1.3.
I'll appreciate any advice that is provided.
Thanks.

If I switch back to a JDBC URL it works fine.
The data-sources.xml file looks substantially changed in that now it contains the new 10.1.3 Oc4j jdbc connection information that use connection pools, native data sources and managed data-sources. All of this stuff "looks" correct, however it won't connect.

For those who would have the same problem, here is how I could eventually fix it.
Since the Flex Test Drive is sometimes out of sync with flash builder 4, I recreated a project using other help pages on Adobe site :
Entry point :
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Flex/4.0/AccessingData/WSbde04e3d3e6474c4-668f02f4120d422cf08- 7ffd.html
As suggested, I used the New Project wizard to create a new project, with :
Application server type : J2EE
Check the radio button "Use remote object access service : BlazeDS"
Then, as indicated in following pages (section "Accessing BlazeDS")... :
file:///C:/Mes%20documents%20C/Commun/Developpement/Documentation/HT-Tracks/AccessingData/ help.adobe.com/en_US/Flex/4.0/AccessingData/WSbde04e3d3e6474c4-668f02f4120d422cf08-7ffe.ht ml#WSbde04e3d3e6474c4-19a3f0e0122be55e1b7-8000
...I selected the "Data / Connect to Data/Services..." menu option, which started the Data/service connection wizard.
There, I selected a BlazeDS (and not Web Services) service type, and everything went fine.
Suggestion to adobe staff : maybe it would be useful to update the Flex Test Drive to reflect Flash Builder 4 ?
Very nice product anyway, so far, congratulations...
Rgds
Marc.

• How to binding incoming xml node list to the tree control as dataProvider

Recently, I faced into one issue: I want to binding incoming xml node (it's not avaliable at start) list to the tree control as a dataProvider.
Since the incoming xml node list is not avaliable at beginning but I needs to bind it to the tree, so I create one virtual one in the xml, and prepare to remove it before the tree is shown. (ready for the actual node adding). But It did not work.
Please see the presudo-code here:
1. Model layer(CsModel.as)
public class CsModel
[Bindable]
public var treeXML:XML=<nodes><car label="virtualOne" id="1">
</car></nodes>;
(Here, I want to build binding relationship on the <car/> node,
one 'virtual/stub' node is set here with lable="virtualOne".
But this node will be deleted after IdTree
control is created completely.)
[Bindable]
public var treeData:XMLList =new XMLListCollection(treeXML.car);
2. view layer(treePage.mxml)
private var _model:CsModel = new CsModel();
private function addNode():void
var newNode:XML=<car/>;
newNode.@label="newOne";
newNode.@id=1;
_model.treeXML.appendChild(newNode);
private function cleanData():void
delete _model.treeXML.car;
<mx:VBox height="100%" width="100%">
<mx:Button label="AddNode" click="addNode()" />
<mx:Tree id="IdTree" labelField="@label"
creationComplete="cleanData()"
dataProvider="{_model}"/>
</mx:VBox>
3. Top view layer (App.Mxml)
<mx:application>
<treePage />
</mx:application>
For method: cleanData(),It's expected that when the treePage is shown, we first delete the virutalOne to provide one 'clear' tree since we don't want show virtualOne to the user. The virutalOne node just for building the relationship between treeData and treeXML at beginning. But the side effect of this method, I found, is that the relationship between treeXML and treeData was cut off. And this leads to that when I added new node (by click the 'addNode' button) to the xmlXML, the xmlData was not affected at all !
So Is there any other way to solve this issue or bind the incoming xml node list to the xmlListCollection which will be used as Tree control's dataProvider ?

If u want to display the name : value then u can do like this
<xsl:eval>this.selectSingleNode("name").nodeName</xsl:eval> : <xsl:value-of select="name" />

• Creating BI Publisher report with raw data XML

Hi Guys,
Can anyone please point me to a link or tutorial where we can do reporting using raw data XML as a datasource and defining the Parameters for filters.
Thanks,
Aash

Thanks for your reply.
I'm just add a new data set from BI Analysis, I select the Analysis and press OK, pop-up closed and in the data set I see the box with the message... nothing else.
If I try to use a simple Analysis, the new data set works.
