Blackberry 8830 "world Phone"

The Verizon Wireless guy in Boston told me that I was good to go with my "world Phone" in France...turns out that was NOT true and you can;t get a rise out of VW with repeated emails.
Anyone know if Orange or Tel ?? can sell me a SIM chip and turn on the phone?
I hear a LOT of bad stuff about AT&T from Apple users, but my friend uses His Blackberry from Italy with no problem. Just an FYI.

Well, maybe your Verizon Wireless guy didn't quite tell you everything.
If you stick with Verizon while there, you need to have a Verizon International Data Plan, or you need to use a local carrier SIM card in the device. Find any local carrier SIM for making calls and text. You will need a data plan enabled on that carrier for email and data.
Or call Verizon and enable the international data, which will allow you to roam on those carriers.

Firmware Update for my blackberry 8830 world edition with Bell Canada

Hi does anyone know if there is firmware update for the Blackberry 8830 world edition with the carrier being Bell Canada? I am running version 4.2 and I know there is 4.5 but I am not sure if this applies the my phone with Bell Canada. When I boot up my desktop manager and checks for updates and says that there is no update. I don't want to update if it is not necessary and not be able to run my blackberry. If I am able to update where would I go to get the 4.5 update?

You have to repair Desk Manager or unintall and reintall DM, but this time uncheck "Auto update" and anything that refer to "update" the reason why I mention that is because everythime you run DM, it goes online and check for newer version and put this file "vendor.xml" in the Blackberry Common Folder, and with that file in place, it will block the program from installing the newer version from a difference cell company..
From what I see 4.2 is the only version that is up to date for a 8830...but if you have a 8820, you can update to 4.5.

Blackberry 8830 World Edition -- won't play internet video

I cannot get my Blackberry 8830 World Edition to play internet video, such as YouTube videos, etc.
When I click to play them on my phone, I get this message:
"a problem occurred when trying to render page"
Can anyone help?

If I'm not mistaken, you need OS 4.5 to do that and OS 4.5 has not been "officially" released yet despite what RIM tried to suggest in an email they sent out the "Blackberry Owners Lounge" members a month or so ago. I'm running the latest beta of OS 4.5 and it runs Youtube vids with a small tweak.
Unfortunately, you'll probably just need to wait until RIM finally gives us 4.5 officially.

Blackberry 8830 World Editiion Software

I have a Blackberry 8830 World Editiion Smart Phone. I need to reinstall the software and would like to get the latest version. When I get to "Select a Device" I see the 8820 but not 8830. I selected the 8820 software and installed it. Now when I use the device I can highlight all of the applications but not select any. The telephone still works but I can' access anything else.
Is this a coincidence or did I mess up by using the 8820 software? If so, how do I get the 8830 software?

World Phone 8800 (Bell)

The Blackberry Desktop manager crashes when I try and sync my calendar.
I can sync contacts but not the calendar.
I have asked for help on this before and was told to download and install the latest software, v 4.5 but the problem continues and I am getting very frustrated. Below is the "detailed information" that I get when the system craches.

I'm having a similar problem with an 8830 world phone and Vista (if that is part of it). I installed several Vista updates yesterday and since then can not complete a synch with my desktop. I tried deleting the intellisync folder as per one person, and now have uninstalled and reinstalling the desktop manager per your instructions. No Luck.

BB 8830 WORLD EDITION SAR level?

Hello. I could not find accurate information regarding SAR level of BLACKBERRY 8830 WORLD EDITION. The manual has no info on GSM SAR level in Europe and there is dfferent numbers over the internet. Can you give me a clue on the SAR level in GSM 900 of this phone? The SAR subject should get more attention over the world. Thanks !

Blackberry 8830 -Not worling India-help

HAI,
I HAVE PURCHASED THE BLACKBERRY 8830 WORLD EDDITION (Unlocked) FORM USA.
I AM HAVING THE BSNL 2G CONNECTION in INDIA. But it is not working with any network providers in INDIA.
It’s says, invalid sim card. But in the specification, it has GSM facility (GSM 900, GSM 1800)
Please help me to get solution for my problem.

I have update my blackberry 8830, after updation some applications are deleted.

I have update my BlackBerry 8830 world edition, after updation is complete, some applications like browser, maps and other applications are removed. i have set my menu to show all but these apps are also not shown in hidden. but when i see in applications these apps are there but not coming in my menu, how im gonna use these apps now? please reply.

Hello,
The simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
1) Make sure you have a current and complete backup of your BB...you can find complete instructions via the link in my auto-sig below.
2) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages
3) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed

4) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:
http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
It is sorted first by carrier -- so if all you want are the OS levels your carrier supports, your search will be quick. However, some carriers are much slower than others to release updates. To truly seek out the most up-to-date OS package for your BB, you must dig through and find all carriers that support your specific model BB, and then compare the OS levels that they support.
5) Delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
6a) For changing your installed BB OS level (upgrade or downgrade), you can launch the Desktop Software and connect your BB...the software should offer you the OS package you installed to your PC.
6b) Or, for reloading your currently installed BB OS level as well as for changing it, bypass the Desktop Software and use LOADER.EXE directly, by proceeding to step 2 in this process:

Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC.
If, during the processes of 6a or 6b, your BB presents a "507" error, simply unplug the USB cord from the BB and re-insert it...don't do anything else...this should allow the install to continue.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:

Help Needed with my inactive Verizon 8830 World Edition...

Hello all, new to the site and am looking forward to both the information offered and whatever way I can contribute...
I have a Verizon (not active) 8830 World Edition that have been unused now for 2+ years as we had moved to Scotland, UK for educational reasons and have since used Orange and the Blackberry's they offer.
My wife is going back to the states and we'd like to use this Blackberry with a Simm card bought to use for both local calls whilst she is there and calls back to me in the UK. We previously bought a card to put in the phone but it did not work and when going through the cards support they informed us we needed to call Verizon.
As before mentioned the 8830 World Edition is NOT registered with a carrier/Verizon anymore. Called Verizon at 888 844 0395 and they told me that I HAVE TO HAVE my phone connected with a Verizon Plan and that is the only way it will work (proprietary).
The phone IS unlocked as we initially used it once we moved to the UK but now we want to use it back in the US to call home here in the UK with a US Simm card...
Seems a shame if we can't and I'm sure there is a solution out there if anyone with the know how is reading... any help out way is greatly appreciated...

That is also correct... it is usable OUTSIDE of the USA on GSM networks, but NOT in the USA on ATT or Tmobile. Only Verizon in the USA.

Rev A on 8830 World Edition?

I am trying to decide on buying a Curve 8330 or a 8830 WE and the deciding factor will be if the 8830 WE can do Rev A or not. I will be on Verizon and the phone will be from them. Does the 8830 WE support Rev A now? If not, will there be some kind of free/cheap firmware upgrade available to do so in the near future? I've heard that an "upgrade" will be coming out and I don't know if it is true or that if it is true that it will be something that can be easily done to current 8830s. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the quick reply. The similarity in the Blackberry model numbers is a little confusing. I am specifically referring to the 8830 World Edition, not the Curve 8330. Verizon's website says the Curve 8330 will not be Rev A upgradeable (http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/controller?item=phoneFirst&action=viewPhoneDetail&selectedP...) but says nothing about the 8830's Rev A capabilities or lack thereof. I sent Verizon an email this morning asking the same thing but haven't heard anything back yet.

8830 World Unlocking Issue

I have a BB 8830 World Edition with Bell Canada that I purchased used for an extended trip to Europe. The SIM card provider for Europe tells me I must unlock the phone through the provider. Bell Canada tell me I do not have to unlock the phone. I went to an independent store and he tried to unlock the phone and said it is hard locked and cannot be unlocked.
I'm puzzled on what to do. I don't want to arrive in Europe and not have the SIM card work. Does anyone have any experience with taking a BB 8830 to Europe without unlocking and having a foreign Sim card work.

World Phone Email Setup

I have a Verizon World Phone (8830), unlocked and purchased used. The option for setting up email is missing. Is there a way to download it or re-install somehow, or is there some reason it is missing?
