Bloating of playback buffers while streaming of HTML5 videos

Firefox does not restrict the rate of data transfer while streaming HTML5 videos. This is because an HTML5 video is treated like any other HTML object and the entire video is downloaded at the end to end available bandwidth. Google Chrome and Internet Explorer restrict the download rate as a multiple of the video encoding rate. These limits on the data transfer rate ensure that on networks that have an end to end available bandwidth larger than the video encoding rate, the download rate is restricted to the video encoding rate. The limits on the download rate improves the responsiveness on other TCP connections opened by the web browser. I detail out this problem in the paper titled "Network Characteristics of Video Streaming Traffic". I would like to know on how I can contribute to address this problem. FMS 4 HTTP dynamic streaming in HTML5 video Tag

We recently purchased FMS4 and I'm in the midst of setting it up. However, not that it's a HUGE deal, but....
I see conflicting answers in the forums about whether or not it is possible to stream media in the HTML5 <video> tag (going back to early 2010).
Ideally, I'd like to stream (most of the time using flash), but for the specific browsers that support it, (chrome, ff, IE9, and select iOS devices) HTML5 video tags.
So, can FMS 4 do that?

If so, how? I gave it a shot using the above code (minus the "blah, blah, blah" ), and the video doesn't play - if all it is, is a syntax error, then please be so kind as to provide the correct syntax.
However, if it isn't possible unless you download something else, like the File Packager for HTTP Streaming or the Origin module for HTTP Dynamic Streaming... please direct me accordingly.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

To the best of my knowlege, no.
The browser would need to support the flash media manifest file format to be able to play and HTTP stream from FMS, and I don't think any of the browser vendors have implemented it. It would be more likely that Apple's spec is adopted (HLS uses a similar structure using mpeg-ts), but that's not implemented in anything other than safari at this point.
you -could- use the bundled apache http server to serve progressive downloads to the <video> object in the browser, but it wouldn't be a stream coming from FMS.

Buffering while streaming catchupprogrammes

I have tried catching up on 3 programmes over Christmas and each time Buffering occurs at approx 10 min intervals.
Down load speed checked at 38.2Mb Upload at 8.06 so all seems in order. YouView box hard wired to the BT Hub.
Does anyone have a solution please?

It does seem to happen from time to time.
Try turning it off on the box/at the wall, waiting for 20 seconds then turning it on again. Then switch on the box with the remote and after it has restarted leave it alone for another 30 seconds to give it a chance to finish booting up; this clears the majority of issues.
If that doesnt help then please come back and one of the gurus will step in!

How to buffer entire file while streaming

Hi,
I have a service running off a FMS and I was wondering how I would get a stream to keep downloading the rest of the file even while streaming. For example, like YouTube downloads the entire video while you're watching it, much like Progressive Download does but I want that from my streaming server. How would I go about doing this?
Or even better than that, if I could buffer at least 20 seconds ahead of the current stream position. If I use NetStream.setBufferTime(20) - the stream doesn't play until at least 20 seconds has been buffered, but I want it so that it will play even though it hasn't buffered completely, but will keep buffering while streaming.

I do a lot of research using Wikipedia articles. Sometimes those articles have video attached. When I click on the play button of the image, it opens a floating window with the first frame of the video, but it's not moving. A thin banner at the top of it me: "For a better video playback experience we recommend a [ HTML5 video browser". And touching the play button ( hoping it might play anyway) has no effect. It will not play.
Is HTML5 a PC/Windows only format? Or is there an App that will alow me to use these videos on my iPad mini? I've spend 6 hours already trying to find out what I can do about this, and I've made zero progress. I've checked out a handful of apps in the app store, and don't even know what I'm looking at. I got the Wikipedia app for mobile devices, and it doesn't offer the videos in the truncated articles it provides. I've spoken to several Apple techs at the Applecare phone number, and no one there seems to know anything about it.

I downloader a VLS Streamer from the Apple app store. It requires some kind of helper software to run, which, as far as I can tell from the video at the developer's site, allows one to download content from one's mobile device to their computer. Since I don't have a compatible computer for my iPad to link to, the instructions don't help my situation. I emailed them with my query and will probably hear from them sometime this week.
I've lived with this problem for the 3 months I've had my iPad, and I'll keep after it until I have a solution. But right now, I've run out of steam. If this lead helps me to resolve my issue, I'll come back and HELPFUL or RESOLVED every response you've given. I'm very grateful for your help. Sorry I'm so utterly clueless.

Choppy Playback while Streaming to My PS3

I have HD content which I am attempting to stream from my iMac to my PS3. I have wired connection from my Mac to my TC and then from my TC to my PS3. Some files stream flawlessly while others become choppy or stall during playback of the file. I have used both the MediaLink and PlayBack programs to stream these files but the issue still occurs regardless of which software I use. These same files play perfectly on my friends network using a windows based PC streaming to his PS3. Has anyone else experienced this issue on a Mac? Any idea how to keep this from happening?

VOB files are mpeg-2. I'll give them a try.
iPhoto worked fine, like iTunes it read all the albums + slideshows etc.
PowerMac here - may be different with intel.
I'm going to wait a few weeks before I tackle this again. I'd prefer to use EC so I can stream EyeTV without having to convert files.
Was just emailed this from Eyeconnect Support.

(Virtual Memory, increase Paging File Size by 100 and 150.)
2) Display; Properties; Settings; Advanced Tab; Troubleshoot;
(Hardware Acceleration from Full to None.)
3) Media Player; Tools; Options; Performance;
(Change connection speed)
( Network Buffering)
(Video Acceleration, Full to None)
4) FireFox; Tools; Options; Content;
(All combos of Block Pop-ups; Load Images; Enable Java and Advanced Tab)
5) All plug-ins are updated

1) I know my "profile" indicates I'm on Mountain Lion. I have not figured out how to update that. I am using Yosemite and Keynote Version 6.5.2 on a 15" Macbook-Pro (tell me how to update my profile, please - nothing I click on opens any kind of "edit" options)
2) My 20 sec video does play in Quicktime. I find nothing in the Quicktime Inspector about deselecting "start movie on click."
3) in my slide presentation I can insert the video on a slide okay and if I click on it can get it to play, But I cannot seem to get it to play after a transition automatically. Maybe it cannot be done. Obviously I would like the entire presentation to play automatically without clicking on or between slides.

Monitor always on while streaming to apple tv

I'm using home sharing from my mac pro to stream to the apple tv, and it works well. It wakes the mac when it's asleep, but the problem is that the monitor (30" acd) connected to the mac stays on as long as it's streaming to the apple tv.
I was hoping the new "low power wake" feature in lion would apply to streaming to apple tv, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
Any ideas how I can get the monitor to sleep as it should while streaming?

Video Playback Pauses when streaming from iTunes to itunes

I have a 2011 iMac running OS X Mavericks Server and I use this as my main iTunes library computer. I also have a 2013 (latest model) MacBook Air running Mavericks. My WiFi network comprises of 2x Airport Express's, both the latest models and configured for both 2.4ghz & 5ghz frequencies.
Using Home Sharing, I like to stream video from my iMac's iTunes library to my MacBook Air. The problem is that playback pauses every few minutes. The only way to resume playback is to close the video window and open the video again. This problem occurs regardless of video quality (SD, 720 or 1080) and on both the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz wifi settings... On the odd occasion this problem doesn't happen at all.
I experienced this problem before upgrading to mavericks so I don't think its mavericks related. And I don't experience this playback issue when streaming to ipad mini, iphone, or apple tv... It only happens when streaming from imac to macbook air...
Please help if you have a solution.

I don't strream ffpmeg from my source, but I stream h264 from my source, and this works when transcoding.

Envy Phoenix Crashes While Streaming Video on Dual Displays

Last week Thursday my brand new Envy Phoenix 800-030qe was delivered. I pretty much maxed it out Win 8 Pro, Haswell i7-4770K , GeForce GTX 660, 256 GB SSD. I also ordered dual 27” monitors, the 27xi model.
When I play two videos in full screen simultaneously, one on each monitor, after a few minutes, the computer will just automatically reboot. Last night I had Sunday Night Football streaming on one monitor, while watching a lecture on YouTube and it crashed, Saturday I was trying to play a video podcast while wanting to check out a specific scene on a movie on blu ray and it crashed. Call me old fashioned, but I still use Winamp as my media player. I’m using the latest version, and I like to use the Milkdrop visualization, when I have it going full screen on both displays the computer reboots after a few songs.
I’ve always been an HP fan, and I was under the impression this computer, especially considering what I paid for it, could not only handle what I want to do today, but what I will want to do 5 years from now. I though the combo of this video card and this CPU and the liquid cooling would be able to handle dual video streams with a breeze. I have a Dell Octiplex at work, running a Ivy Bridge i5 and a lesser video card from ATI/AMD and while I was out earlier I had Winamp streaming with the Milkdrop visualization spanned across both of my Dell 24” displays and in the hour I was gone it did not crash.
Any ideas? I was going to do a System Restore Wednesday night, install 8.1 when it comes out on Thursday and see if that helps. If Not I’ll still have almost 2 weeks and I’ll probably end up sending this thing back. It's a shame, I really had high hopes for this PC.

With regards to your computer shutting down when streaming two different videos across your two monitors, I have included the document for troubleshooting lock up and freeze ups here. As far as hardware capability you certainly should be able to do those multiple tasks without issue. This leads me to believe we have a software issue/conflict. So with regards to Step 2: Using System Restore, obviously you don't need to do this step since it has always behaved this way. I would at this point try another media player such as VLC, to see if you can recreate the crash/ lock up.
