BLOB used to store image in 9i is causing problem

Hi all,
I have an application developed in Oracle Developer 6i.
One of the forms captures the snaps of the applicants, the datatype being used BLOB. It works fine with Oracle 8i
(8.1.5).When tested with Oracle 9i (release 2), the same form gives message "Transaction complete: 1 record applied and
saved". But when searched or queried later, the fields of other datatypes are displayed, but the image item of datatype BLOB
shows nothing (no snaps).
Any guidance wud be highly appreciated.
Thanking u in anticipation.
Regards.
Muhammad Asif Faheem

Thanks to Francois and Twolf
for the valuble suggestions. At this point in time, I can not go thru the JSP route, so webUtil seems more appealing. I am fairly new to forms and any help is deeply appreciated.
Since I have never used WebUtil before, could you or anyone else direct me to a simple/basic example of how I can use it? Also does it get bundled with forms 10g dev suite? I also read something abt Jacobs library. Where can I download it? Is this supported by Oracle?
Please help me with the example of downloading blob content with the webUtil (corresonding to the mime_type) . Once I store the file (blob content) in its native format, do I need to use web.show_document to display the same in a pop up window?

  • Can we use BLOB fields (that store images) in Crystal Report ?

    I'm developing with ASP.NET, VS.NET 2003.
    Using Crystal Report for VS.NET
    DataBase: Oracle 10g
    I store a BLOB field in a table. This field store images, like jpg files.
    The Stored Procedure that I use to fill the report is:
    OPEN MyCursor FOR
    SELECT MyId , MyImg
    FROM MyTable
    MyImg is BLOB field
    However, when I try to use the stored procedure in Crystal Report at design mode, any field can be displayed and then drag and drop to the report, but MyImg is not possible.
    There is an error message:
    Details: ADO Error Code: 0x80004005
    Source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle
    Description: Data type is not supported
    I'm afraid that is not so easy for me to change DB connector drivers.
    My question is:
    - Is it possible to use BLOB fields in Cyrstal Reports?
    - Or should I convert them previously to something, so they can be displayed in Crystal Report at desing mode ?
    - If I should change DB connector drivers, which one should I use and from where should I download it and then install it in my Web Server?
    Thank you very much!

    Hi,
    I dont know much at all about CR, but I do know Microsoft's OLEDB Provider for Oracle doesnt support Blob datatype.. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q244661/
    Oracle's OLEDB provider does though, you can get it as part of the ODAC download on OTN.
    Hope that helps,

    Hi.,
    I want to store image, media file in the oracle database using File Maker as a front end.
    I connect Oracle using odbc from file maker. There are table and in that table there a column "pict" of blob type. but this column is not showing in the file maker.

    Now how to store images in the oracle table using odbc or any other tool.
    Regards,

    I wrote an example for my students, you can find it here. It's using PHP as the front end but all you need to do is know how and leverage the stored procedures. All code is downloadable in zip files from the blog.

    I asked a similar question once and the answer I got was - Don't.
    Instead, store the images on a drive somewhere and store the path in the database.
    But I'm no expert - that's just what I was told by someone who does this kind of stuff a lot.
    Hope that helps.

    As a guess what you are doing with that zip stuff is very odd.
    You do realize that it is just going to put some binary data into the blob right? And the methods that is going to use will not necessarily create a 'complete' zip file?
    If you want a zip file then just load the file, dont use the zip classes.
    And if you want part of a zip file, (and want to store the parts as a zip) then extract it from the file and create another zip entity using a byte stream rather than a file.
    Finally I suspect your error with the blob occurs because you do not close the statement. But at any rate you should figure out how to do the blob code independent of the zip stuff.
    And what oracle driver version are you using? Some of the older ones need oracle specific handling for blobs.

  • How to store image files in oracle DB

    Hi,
    I am new to working with database.
    Please let me know how to store image files in Database using insert command.
    Thanks,
    Ramesh Yakkala.

    Hi,
    You need to create a directory object to import these files:
    Take a look on the example below:
    eg:
    CREATE TABLE MY_IMAGE_TABLE (
    ID NUMBER,
    NAME VARCHAR2(20),
    IMAGE BLOB);
    CREATE OR REPLACE DIRECTORY IMAGES AS '/tmp';
    GRANT READ, WRITE ON DIRECTORY IMAGES TO PUBLIC;
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE load_file_to_my_table (p_file_name IN MY_IMAGE_TABLE.NAME%TYPE) AS
    v_bfile BFILE;
    v_blob BLOB;
    BEGIN
    INSERT INTO MY_IMAGE_TABLE (id, name, image)
    VALUES (1, p_file_name, empty_blob())
    RETURN doc INTO v_blob;
    v_bfile := BFILENAME('IMAGES', p_file_name);
    Dbms_Lob.Fileopen(v_bfile, Dbms_Lob.File_Readonly);
    Dbms_Lob.Loadfromfile(v_blob, v_bfile, Dbms_Lob.Getlength(v_bfile));
    Dbms_Lob.Fileclose(v_bfile);
    COMMIT;
    END;
    SQL> execute load_file_to_my_table('myfhoto.jpg');Cheers

  • How t store images in database

    hi
    i want coding to store images,files in database

    hi,
    You can use the BLOB data type provided by oracle to store images in the database. BLOB (Binary Large Object). To Store data into the table, we need to use the DBMS_LOB package to manipulate the data and then store it in the table.
    BFILE are used in combination with the BLOB to get the images into the database.
    Thanks, VIkram

    When I try and print an "Approach Plate, or Departure" from ForeFlight to my Epson Stylus NX430 using AirPrint the image is resized. How can I print without it resizing. I want to have the plate print in the original size so I can use it. Is this an Apple, Epson, or Foreflight Issue? I just purchased the printer so I can return it and get a different model or brand. I spoke to Epson and the suggestions given did not resolve the issue. I have cut the paper down to the size of the plate roughly 5.5x8 and it still try's to print at 8.5x11. I have also requested help through ForeFlights Tech help but have yet to receive an answer.
    Please help!

  • Using the value "Image/*" for the accept attribute of the HTML input Element, how can I add .pdf to the array of preconfigured file types (.jpe, .jpg, .jpeg, .?

    On a form, using the value "image/*" for the accept attribute of the HTML input Element, how can I add .pdf to the array of pre-configured file types (.jpe, .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, .png, .bmp, .ico, .svg, .svgz, .tif, .tiff, .ai, .drw, .pct, .psp, .xcf, .psd, .raw)?
    Say I wanted to add .gif, .jfif or .ico. I find this array limited, how can I add types to image?
    <input type="file" name="file" accept="image/*" id="file" />
    mimeTypes.rdf does not seem to allow this.

    ''mimeTypes.rdf'' has nothing to do with web development. It's a file that stores your file handling preferences (e.g. if you want ZIP files automatically saved or opened).
    You can't change the file types of the pre-defined content specifiers (audio/*, video/*, image/*), but you can specify additional MIME types. To add PDF to your above example,
    <pre><nowiki><input type="file" name="file" accept="image/*,application/pdf" id="file" /></nowiki></pre>

  • How do I store images in a jar file to be displayed on a jsp?

    Afternoon all,
    I have created a java component which accepts some parameters and returns a string. The returned string contains html tags to display a table in a webpage when rendered through a browser.
    I want to be able to add this component to any java web project to display my table. The problem is that I want to use images in my table to give the appearance of curved corners.
    How do I store images in my component and render to a webpage?
    Thanks in advance,
    Alex

    You won't be able to make the install of this library as simple as the installation of a jar file. You can't access the images directly in the jar.
    There are a few approaches you can take:
    1 - jar file + resources:
    Have the install as being a jar and a "resources" directory which you store all the images in. Thus the images become part of the web application/web site and are accessible. Probably need to allow an entry in web.xml to configure where/what this directory is called.
    2 - jar file only:
    Provide a servlet to access the images, which will load them from the jar file, using the ClassLoader.getResourceAsStream(). Requires declaration of a servlet in the web.xml file. Won't be as efficient as having the images on disk, but will keep them bundled in the jar file.
    you would generate code such as <img src="myImgServlet?img=.....">
