BLOBDestination  / Bursting and Distributing

Hi,
I implemented BLOBDestination function 6 months ago and it works very well for simple reporting.
However, when using the distribution method to load 13.000 pdfs, Oracle Report stops working and does not upload more that 4000 pdfs into the database.
I get different error depending how i start Oracle reports:
#1: "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError"
#2 Either: Exception 50125 (): Caught an exception: org.omg.CORBA.UNKNOWN: vmcid: SUN minor code: 202 completed: Maybe
oracle.reports.RWException: IDL: oracle / reports / RWException: 1.0
I tried several combinations of jvmoptions, the result is always the same, I can not load more than 4000 pdf.
In oracle cache i can see all generated files, BLOBDestination open and close between each files upload.
I do not understand where my files goes....
The report job wait and never ends, the process takes Oracle reports 75% CPU and hang on this jobs and and other task.
I know the bursting / distribution is always a nightmare with Oracle Report, but this time after 4 weeks of research I am overtaken by events.
Does he have someone implemented this solution successfully?
Plz help.
David

#1 When the Report total cache size it lower that the size of all my pdfs size.
(In this case, Reports clean a part of my active reports of my actual job in the cache, and the job fail or job have time to upload pdfs that oracle did not had time to destroy during its cleanup. )
#2 When i allows more cache and report need to clean old job to get more place in is cache.
(In this case, Report clean cache but took too much time... Report return org.omg.CORBA.UNKNOWN: vmcid: SUN minor code: 202 completed: Maybe) And the Report server crash...
#3 When Report have not enought place in memory to keep the whole cache for this job.
( Reports crash with java.lang.OutOfMemoryError)
The point 3 was suppose resolve in bug 7426842 and 7555162
Have try to use Huge memory for Reports JVM .. Without succes:
jvmOptions="-Xmx1024m -Xms1024m -Xss4096k" .. Not enough..

  • How to use DESNAME and DISTRIBUTE to mail

    Hello,
I am using Oracle Reports 10g. I have a report (clients' invoices) which repeats on INVOICE_NO. (setup to burst).
I go to Property Inspector >> Distribution:
    DISTRIBUTION ID: EMAIL_ADDRESS
DESNAME: EMAIL_ADDRESS (this is the column in the database table which holds the emails of each clients, to whom the report is going to be sent; each client receives his/hers invoice)
    DESFORMAT: PDF
    DESTYPE: MAIL
    COPIES: 1
I save, and then File >> Distribute, (asks me that is going to be send to multiple destinations) says: Distribution completed succesfully. BUT nothing happens (no emails).
    Questions:
    1. How should i write in order to distribute to each clients' email?
    2. Where could i see the activity logs of the application (are there any), where i could investigate what is going on in the backend?
    Thank you,
    Michael.

    Hi there guys,
I have tracked down my mistaked.
in the object navigator, i clicked on main, then in the body i have spotted down the R_ section, clicked on it, and then in the report design i have deleted. Then it worked like a charm.
I have filled in the distribution box like this: &<subscriber_name>, and then i got each PDF bursted and distributed in each mail. That's great!!!
    The question is now:
    1. How can i configure all the details that will be displayed in the email? (like sender, subject, body etc.) Using the distribution box it gives me no alternative, in the distribution XML i can do this by editting all the details.
    2. How can i log all the responses that i get from each e-mail address to which has an email been sent. For example, one e-mail address is not valid anymore, i want to grep the answer that the mail server receives and in the end, to make a report ( out of 100% - 20% failed, 80% succesfully delivered). How can i accomplish this task?
    Thank you,
    Michael.

  • How do I make and distribute and image to multiple macbooks?

    Hello,
I am the IT support person for a number of schools.  We use a mixture of Macs and PCs.
I am looking for a nice tidy option to create an image of a "master" client and distribute to a group of student Macbooks.  All the Macbooks are the same model and are all running Snow Leopard (though they were released with Leopard).  Initially, one of the teachers created a user account (called student) with all the software and settings that we needed,  on one of them and used Migration Assistant to copy that account to the others.
I prefer to have a master image I can restore to at any time.
I figure that Disk Utility will do the job - I'm just not 100% sure of which steps to take.
So far I have created my "master" macbook that is set up just the way I want it.
Next I was going to attach it to the mac I use to run everything on (ARD etc) via firewire and boot the master in Target mode.
Then I would run Disk Utility on my mac and use the New Image button to create an image called "studentPOD.dmg"  (There is room on my mac for this, or I can put it on an external USB disk)
Is this correct, and once I have the image, how do I get it onto the other Macbooks?  Is there anything special I have to do to make it bootable?  They all part of a student POD and can be re-imaged at anytime without worrying about losing data...so I can afford to experiment...
Any help to clarify would be much appreciated.
Also, should I look for a Snow Leopard server to do this sort of thing?
    Many thanks
    Suzanne

Making a Master Image on Snow Leopard - this is a bit long winded, sorry!
Build your Mac the way you want it, all updates, account settings etc, this will be your master image so don’t personalise it too much.
There are two ways to make an image with Disk Utility - they both use the Restore function.
The ideal one is to boot from Mac OS X Install DVD and go to Disk Utility.
The theoretically less ideal method is to boot from the master image itself and then go to Disk Utility.
The DVD option is theoretically better as it involves copying the master image while it is unused as opposed to the second option which copies the master image while it is in use.  However, I have done this with the master image mounted and it works perfectly.
If you use the DVD method then the downside is that the Destination image size has to be the same size or bigger than the Source image size, If you use the boot from the master image method, as long as there is enough space in the Destination image to fit the files (usually around 18gb in my images) then it works.  This is good because it means you can fit your master image on a small disk!
(NB this is not the case with Lion, it will not let you use the master image as a source if you have booted from it)
Ok, so you are in Disk Utility and you can see your Macintosh HD with your master image on it and you can see your USB drive with it’s empty image on it, this image has to be formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journalled).  It has to be at least as big as the used space on the Macintosh HD master image.
Now you are going to use the Restore tab to restore the master image to the USB drive.
Drag and drop the Macintosh HD master image into the Source box
Click in the Destination box then drag and drop the USB image into it
Make sure the Erase Destination box is ticked.
Click Restore and when asked if you are sure click on Erase. (unless you are not sure of course!)
It might take an hour to restore, once it is finished, boot from the USB image (which will now be named the same as your master image) and make sure it is what you were expecting, test it etc.  I usually rename it at this point to something other than Macintosh HD, this can be done by right clicking on the disk in finder and renaming it.
    Restoring from a disk image:
On the Mac that you want to re-image with the master image:
Plug in USB drive containing your master image (created above)
Boot from Max OS X Install DVD and go to disk utility from the Utilities menu (you will need to go through the “use English as the main language bit” first.
Disk Utility might take a while to find all the disks / images…
Highlight Macintosh HD (or whatever the image name on the Mac you are about to re-image is)
    Click on the Restore tab
Drag and drop the master image into the Source box.
Click in the Destination box and then drag and drop the Macintosh HD image into it.
You should have master image in the source box and Macintosh HD image in the destination box.  The erase destination box should be ticked.
Check everything is how you want it and click on the Restore button.
It will ask you if you’re sure – if you are then click Erase – if you’re not then click cancel and go play with a PC!
It will tell you how long it’s going to take, mine take around 45 mins.
Once it's finished boot from it and bob's your uncle!

  • Aligning and Distributing objects in InDesign

    Hi,
I am using InDesign CS4. But I am having a trouble aligning objects. I know that in illustrator it is possible to align objects to a main object. For example, lets say I have several same square shapes on my page. I can make any one of the squares as the main object for others to get aligned or distributed to.
I wanted to do the same thing in InDesign but was never able to do that. I wonder if it is even possible to do that. InDesign doesn't seem to have that option. But it was such a handy tool.
Can you help me with the trick?

Thanks Peter Spier. I am sorry for the misleading information. You were right about the alignment and distribution tools. On my CS4, the Alignment option works with the locked object, but the Distribue Objects and Distribute with Set Space doesn't work with a locked object. I am trying to use the distribute with a set spacing around "the main object". In other words, it will make my work a lot easier if I first align an object at a certain point on the page and then use two other text frames on both sides of the object with an equal spacing (using the Distribute Spacing tool).
I hope it makes a sence. Thanks.

  • Managing and distributing Folders with folder actions to a group of users?

I want to set up a server for a camera club on a SnowLeo Server running on a MacMini. We want to collect images every month from users who want to participate in a club competition and are looking into the FileSharing service on the server to collect the images.
My initial idea was to find a way of letting the Administrator automatically create folders with folder actions in every users home folder (i.e. "2010-April-Portraits"). After the user had uploaded images into it, the folder action would then rename, reformat and transport images into a central location to be processed further.
Is this a good way of collecting data, and if yes - how do I let the Admin create and distribute these folders with the appropriate actions?
    Best regards,

    Hi,
I want to purchase a Macmini with SL Server and create a photo competition solution for a camera club. The solution needs to be able to accept uploaded images and the solution needs to let the user associate a set of images to a competition and from there the solution needs to make sure that the filename, format, size and embedded metadata is correct before storing and processing them further. Friends I have talked to say I need a classic CMS solution so I may need to investigate instead of my planned AppleScript/Automator solution.
Also - thank you for offering to develop, but I had kinda planned to do this myself to build some knowledge and also get to know the server better.
Anyone else using the SnowLeo server for a solution like this?

  • How do you handle and distribute huge amounts of data?

I've got about 315 channels and will be collecting data at about 1300 Hz.  Data collection will last about 3-4 minutes.  I'm at a loss on how to distribute the data to researchers for evaluation.  These researchers will not have LabView or any other NI software to use.  I've tried the TDM stuff, and the add-in for excel 2007 but the files are just too large for excel to handle in a timely manner.  It took just over three hours to open one of my test files.  Anybody have any suggestions on how to manage and distribute files this large?

    Frank Rizzo wrote:

I'll be curious to see if Jamal Lewis's yardage improves for you guys this year after having some definite dropoffs with us the last couple.
Though now that he's not playing against you,  your defense's numbers against the run should improve.
I'd be surprised if you could get that data to the researchers at all using Excel.  It has a limit of 256 columns and 65536 rows.  If you had a column per channel and a row per data point, you'd be talking 315 columns and 312,000 rows for 4 minutes of data.  I guess you could always break it up into several files being sure to leave some rows and columns to give them a chance to do some data calculation.
Out of curiosity, I created a spread sheet where every cell was filled with a 1.  It took a good 30 seconds to save and was over 100 MB.  That was probably about 1/10 of the amount of data your dealing with.  And going back to my earlier calculations, I would guess that as a text file, that much data would need about 10 bytes per value thus getting you to about 1 GB in text files.
I would ask them what kind of software they will use to analyze these files and what format they would prefer it in.  There are really only 2 ways to get it to them, either ASCII text file which could be very large, but would be the most flexible to manipulate.  Or a binary file, which would be smaller, but there could be a conflict if they don't interpret the file the same way you write it out.
I haven't used a TDM file add-in for Excel before.  So I don't know how powerful it is, or if there is a lot of overhead involved that would make it take 3 hours.  What if you create multiple TDM files?  Let's say you break it down by bunches of channels and only 20-30 seconds of data at a time.  Something that would keep the size of the data array within the row and column limits of Excel.  (I am guessing about 10 files).  Would each file go into Excel so much faster with that add-in that even if you need to do it 10 times, it would still be far quicker than one large file?  I am wondering if the add-on is spending a lot of time figuring out how to break down the large dataset on its own.
The only other question.  Have you tried the TDMS files as opposed to the TDM files?  I know they are an upgrade and are supposed to work better with streaming data.  I wonder if they have any improvements for larger datasets.

  • I created and distributed my form. How do I see and print the returned form?

I need to know how I can print the returned form?
    Thanks

Yes - in both the "Basic" and "Plus" level account you will be able to "Download Response as PDF Form" which downloads a PDF that looks like the original form filled out.  There are a few caveats to that, the layout may change in the PDF to accommodate fields where the text input was larger than the field, the field will "grow" to display all of the text so it can be printed correctly.  Also, attachments would not be included in the downloaded PDF response.
Have a look at this PDF since it goes over designing for PDF, and the information on "Page Breaks" in "Page View" will apply to any PDF saved from the form (not only for distribution, but also the Response PDF), you will want to use that info to add Page Breaks in Page View for your downloaded PDFs: Tutorial: Creating and distributing fillable PDF forms
