Block LimeWire???

Hello, I have a Wrt54g Version 5 with Firmware Version: v1.02.2 I have done the following to try to block Limewire, (Limewire is a P2P network) but it is not working... I can still download content... Access Restrictions > Created a Internet Access Policy the on the side menu thing Blocked Services > Add/Edit Service > Created one called "LimeWire" > Protocol > TCP & UDP > Port Range 6346-6348 > Add > Save Settings. I have done that and its not blocking Limewire... I need it block so that other people in my house don't use it to download music and stuff illegally.

Is "Limewire" the program name that shows up in Task Manager > Processes?
The box said windows xp or better... So I installed Linux!

  • Can itunes block limewire??

After I upgraded itunes and ipod I can no longer open the program limewire. I've tried to download a new version of limewire but this did not help. So I wonder if it is possible for itunes to block limewire since limewire is a downloading program for music? But I mean, they shouldn't have the right to do that... or?
I've be glad for some answers or people who are in the same sitauation as me. I've tried to talk to apple support( in my city) but they didn't have a clue.

You can register with iTrack for free http://itrackmobile.com/, and they track missing or lost iPods. If you have the plastic case that came with your device, you can use the serial number to register with iTrack. I'm not sure if you can track your Touch via iTunes, however.

  • Blocking Limewire from a WRT54G

Hi all, I have a Linksys WRT54G in my apartment in college, and my roommate uses it w/ Limewire.  This is STRICTLY against university rules, and I want to prevent any and all limewire activity.  How can I do this without blocking his internet access?  Thanks for the help!
    Brian

I downloaded the manual from the Linksys Web site and looked it up for you.  On page 15 it explains how to set up Website Blocking by URL address.  Download and read it.

  • How to make a server out of an emac

I have my sons emac (1ghz) and want to turn it in to a server.
It's running 10.4.11. the cd rom does not work but other than that it works fine. We put 120gig hard drive in her. I will be connecting to router by either cable. I have got 3 macs and 2 windows laptops
I also want to block limewire and the such. I know I can get a mac mini server, but my wife will not let me.
Info all 3 macs running 10.5.8
    all laptop running window 7.
I have att wireless router. any help is welcomed. Thanks Scott

This may help, though you'll have to look in your router's documentation for information on how to block ports:
    http://www.cybertechhelp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=82689
Note the bit about Limewire being able to shift ports, though. The advice about preventing Limewire from being installed may be your best option.

  • WRT300N v2 Port blokking

    Hello there,
I was trying to block limewire from the internet using
6346-6348 UDP and TCP blocking, and putted the mac address that
it need to be blocking for. But when I do that it will still allow
you to connect to port's in that range.
    Is this function still corrupted.
Even I mis options in my router that could be usefully for business and
others. Like the UpnP port mapping list etc.
What can I do with that issuel of blocking limewire?
    friendly regarts,
    Teus

    Really,
I wonder why the hardware and firmware are different. Are v2 units going to work
ok here in the US. I hope I haven't made a huge mistake trading in my v1 units.
I feel like I am in quicksand and sinking no matter what I do.
Does that mean the power supplies shipped with the v2 units will be for 50 cycle/second
    100volts instead of 60/120?
I will post when I know more. If anyone can fill me in any more about the v2 units, please let me know...

  • Downloads to block viruses?

looking for downloads to block viruses and malware?

An addition comment I would add would be to avoid download anything and everything from P2P networks. The vast majority of that stuff is illegal for starters and also tends to be the easiest place to find download infected with malware. P2P includes LimeWire, ForstWire, transmission, bittorrent and the like.

  • How do I block certain websites from my computer? on all users profiles,

i want to block miro, limewire, etc from all users on my computer? my computer only tells me how to block it on internet explorer, not firefox. any help??

    Hello Laura.
Are you talking about blocking access to the sites? If that's the cause, you can do it by using an extension that blocks unwanted sites ([https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3145/ BlockSite] for example) at your choice, or you can do it using third party software (like a Firewall, for example). There is both free and paid software of that kind. But Firefox doesn't include that feature by default, you'll need an extension for that.

  • How do I remove Limewire from iTunes?

    Hi!
Being a polite person, I'm taking Dave Sawyer's (aka "Miss Manners") kind advice and posting a new question on this old topic.
Along with the plethora of other problems that have overtaken my iMac since the "upgrade" to OSX 10.5.7, iTunes is displaying unwanted Limewire connections. These are displayed as "shared libraries." This was apparently fallout after a Windows PC user on my (currently disabled) home network downloaded Limewire.
Understandably, since Limewire has a reputation as being used for less than legal purposes, I desire primarily to remove it and any vestige of it from my computer. Secondly, I'd like to be able to share iTunes between accounts on my iMac, as I used to be able to.
Specifically, I don't consider simply turning off "look for shared libraries" to be an answer. It seems akin to covering your eyes when you see you're going to crash your car.
I am able to stream music from these "shared libraries", and so have disabled sharing in iTunes Preferences. If anyone has an answer that will allow me to turn sharing back on with a certainty of not being "connected" to some anonymous strangers Limewire program, I'd truly appreciate it.
    Regards.

    Dave Sawyer wrote:
you could perhaps block port 3689 (iTunes Sharing) and 5353 (Bonjour) in your router to your cable network. That would probably block those libraries from appearing while still allowing sharing within your own home.
Many thanks to you both, Dave & Meg! Being a polymath rather than a code warrior (I'm somewhat dyslexic };) ), I appreciate your able assistance. And Meg, you're quite right about Miss Judith, and we need more folks with good manners.
I have seen reports that Limewire could possibly access http, and therefore data files, on Windows computers. As far as you know, could this be accomplished through the iTunes application and browser, and on a Mac?
I ask this because iTunes often links to Safari, and though not a Luddite, I'm suspicious of technology that's designed for an inherently less than honest purpose, such as Limewire. Could it exploit the above port for this purpose?

    Again, Thanks & Regards,

  • Restrict P2P (Bit Torrent / Limewire) On Airport Extreme

    Hey all,
I am just wondering if it's possible to only allow one computer to access Bit Torrent or Limewire connections and leaving out my son for accessing the same things?. I have an Apple Airport Extreme Base Station, and I can't follow the Mac Tutorial, I am using Windows 7 with the Airport Base Station Agent. Thanks in advance!.

I am just wondering if it's possible to only allow one computer to access Bit Torrent or Limewire connections and leaving out my son for accessing the same things?
Sorry, but no as the AirPorts do not offer a feature to block P2P communications. It only has the ability to restrict a computer from accessing the Internet at all. Also, most routers that do offer this feature will completely block out the P2P service for all computers ... not just a particular one.

  • IOS urlfilter blocking extra things?

I have a Cisco 871 router a client site that I'm using for Internet access and they wanted various sites blocked, so I set up "ip urlfilter":
    ip urlfilter source-interface Vlan1
    ip urlfilter allow-mode on
    ip urlfilter exclusive-domain deny .youtube.com
    ip urlfilter exclusive-domain deny .facebook.com
    ip urlfilter exclusive-domain deny .limewire.com
    ip urlfilter exclusive-domain deny .friendster.com
    ip urlfilter exclusive-domain deny .kazaa.com
    ip urlfilter exclusive-domain deny .kazaa-lite.com
And it seems to work OK, however "extra" things (with URLs that aren't even in the list) are starting to get blocked and I don't know why.
Here's the output from "show ip urlfilter cache"...

IPs, like the last one, 74.125.127.118, which reverse-resolves to "pz-in-f118.google.com" shouldn't be in there should they?
Has anyone seen this strange behaviour before?

In order to use the url filter, this requires a 3rd party server that does the url filtering. The two servers would be either N2H2 or Websense. Without the servers, the url filtering can't be done.
The system will go into allow mode when connections to all vendor servers (Websense or N2H2) are down. The system will return to normal mode when a connection to at least one web vendor server is up. Allow mode directs your system to forward or drop all packets on the basis of the configurable allow mode setting: if allow mode is on and the vendor servers are down, the HTTP requests will be allowed to pass; if allow mode is off and the vendor servers are down, the HTTP requests will be forbidden.

  • Is it possible for a port to be closed/blocked on my Mac?

    Hi!
I have been trying to establish a video chat on a site that uses Macromedia Flash. I have the latest version of Flash (8) and my internet connection is quite speedy (512 Kb, or so the ISP claims...). The problem is everytime I try to connect to the server to initiate a video chat, it tells me "Port 1935" is blocked or closed on my end.
Of course, the first thing I did was to check my Firewall setttings: I have an exception for said port (1935), which means it should have no problems to send/recive info from the Flash server.
Next thing, I called my ISP and explained to them the situation. They claim they have no closed ports and that everything should work fine. I mean, I can use apps. like Messenger, BitTorrent, LimeWire, etc (They all need an specific open port to work properly). with no problem at all. Its only this Flash Video Chat that gives me headaches...
Any of you have any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!

Yeah, I tried an Online Port Scan and this is what I got:
    Scanning for Port 1935
    "Port Scan xxx.xxx.xx.xxx
    Tue, 22 Nov 2005 15:50:53 -0800
The host xxx.xxx.xx.xxx does not have a service running on port 1935 ()."
    Scanning all Ports
    "Port Scan xxx.xxx.xx.xxx
    Tue, 22 Nov 2005 15:52:04 -0800
The host xxx.xxx.xx.xxx has a service running on port 21 (ftp).
The host xxx.xxx.xx.xxx does not have a service running on port 23 (telnet).
The host xxx.xxx.xx.xxx does not have a service running on port 53 (domain).
The host xxx.xxx.xx.xxx does not have a service running on port 80 (http).
The host xxx.xxx.xx.xxx does not have a service running on port 110 (pop3).
The host xxx.xxx.xx.xxx does not have a service running on port 139 (netbios-ssn)."
And this is the very messed up thing, I have the port 1935 "open" on my Firewall... Or so it seems... I have no idea what is going on...

  • Blocking p2p on router 877

    Hi,
Can anyone suggest how can I effectively block p2p traffic like Ares, Limewire or other with Cisco IOS 12.4(6) or higher? I tried NBAR but I guess there is no PDLM available for Ares for instance.
    Many thanks for any suggestions.
    Remi

    Hi,
to block p2p traffic you need to block all ports except these you really need.
For example block all ports except http, https, smtp, pop3, dns.
Becouse some of the p2p applications use port 80 to connect there is an options in firewall(classic or Zone-Based Policy Firewall) called protocol-violation and port-missue!
This options prevent non-HTTP traffic over port 80.
For Zone-Based Firewall reffer to this link:

  • Can't open limewire, can't play games

i just installed Limewire . i could install but when i opening Limewire a error mesage pops up. they says "Your save folder is not valid. It may have been deleted, you may not have permissions to write to it, or there may be another problem. Please choose a different folder" but i don't know what to do....
and this couple of days, when i was playing demogames i downloaded from Apple, i got message says " blocking firewall" or something, i couldn't play many times. so i deleted games. ( just didn't know what to do) i am very much a beginner user for computer. please help me ! p.s. sorry about my english, hope understand my writing though... cos ESL. Thank you!!!!!

My ears can hear music at the same time as the sound effects of a card game, I don' think I need a second set.
But if the option were available I would turn off the sound effects (which are irrelevant to the game) and just listen to music while playing cards. I wish this was an option.
Other games, like scrabble, don't have sound anyway. I'm not sure if the iphone lacks the processing power to stream music while running a game.
Basically, itunes should not shut off automatically when a game is loaded. If someone with only one set of ears can't handle sounds and music at the same time, they could just press pause on the ipod or turn of the sound effects.

  • Mac Pro & Powerbook data transfer / what about bad blocks

    Hello,
Well i have Mac Pro and a old Powerbook G4. Both are running OSX (one intel version and the other PPC). the powerbook is booting from an external firewire drive which i have installed OSX (PPC) on. ( mainly because the internal drive of the laptop died).
So I want to transfer some data from the external drive to my Mac Pro. Is it okay just to shutdown the Powerbook, and connect it & mount it on the Mac Pro as an external drive? (not the actual Powerbook, just the external drive itself...) Will there be complications since it has OSX (PPC) installed? I want to transfer some files of the external to my Mac Pro.
(...I know another option would be to network them together too.....)
I am not trying to boot from it...
    another quick question....
The external drive with OSX (PPC) installed, has had a shady history, it has crashed a few times on me, bad blocks, sometimes a click here and there...it been partioned a few times....etc..
When I transfer data or files from the bad drive to my good one, could it possibly transfer those bad data blocks to the other hard drive on my Mac Pro, and possibly "infect" it?

    The following may help you:
A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs
If you are migrating a PowerPC system (G3, G4, or G5) to an Intel-Mac be careful what you migrate. Keep in mind that some items that may get transferred will not work on Intel machines and may end up causing your computer's operating system to malfunction.
Rosetta supports "software that runs on the PowerPC G3 or G4 processor that are built for Mac OS X". This excludes the items that are not universal binaries or simply will not work in Rosetta:
Classic Environment, and subsequently any Mac OS 9 or earlier applications
    Screensavers written for the PowerPC
    System Preference add-ons
    All Unsanity Haxies
    Browser and other plug-ins
    Contextual Menu Items
Applications which specifically require the PowerPC G5
    Kernel extensions
Java applications with JNI (PowerPC) libraries
See also What Can Be Translated by Rosetta.
In addition to the above you could also have problems with migrated cache files and/or cache files containing code that is incompatible.
If you migrate a user folder that contains any of these items, you may find that your Intel-Mac is malfunctioning. It would be wise to take care when migrating your systems from a PowerPC platform to an Intel-Mac platform to assure that you do not migrate these incompatible items.
If you have problems with applications not working, then completely uninstall said application and reinstall it from scratch. Take great care with Java applications and Java-based Peer-to-Peer applications. Many Java apps will not work on Intel-Macs as they are currently compiled. As of this time Limewire, Cabos, and Acquisition are available as universal binaries. Do not install browser plug-ins such as Flash or Shockwave from downloaded installers unless they are universal binaries. The version of OS X installed on your Intel-Mac comes with special compatible versions of Flash and Shockwave plug-ins for use with your browser.
The same problem will exist for any hardware drivers such as mouse software unless the drivers have been compiled as universal binaries. For third-party mice the current choices are USB Overdrive or SteerMouse. Contact the developer or manufacturer of your third-party mouse software to find out when a universal binary version will be available.
Also be careful with some backup utilities and third-party disk repair utilities. Disk Warrior (does not work), TechTool Pro (pre-4.5.1 versions do not work), SuperDuper (newest release works), and Drive Genius (untested) may not work properly on Intel-Macs. The same caution may apply to the many "maintenance" utilities that have not yet been converted to universal binaries.
Before migrating or installing software on your Intel-Mac check MacFixit's Rosetta Compatibility Index.
Additional links that will be helpful to new Intel-Mac users:

Transferring data with Setup Assistant - Migration Assistant FAQ
Because Migration Assistant isn't the ideal way to migrate from PowerPC to Intel Macs, using Target Disk Mode or copying the critical contents to CD and DVD or an external hard drive will work better when moving from PowerPC to Intel Macs.
Basically the instructions you should follow are:
    1. Backup your data first. This is vitally important in case you make a mistake or there's some other problem.
    2. Connect a Firewire cable between your old Mac and your new Intel Mac.
    3. Startup your old Mac in Target Disk Mode.
    4. Startup your new Mac for the first time, go through the setup and registration screens, but do NOT migrate data over. Get to your desktop on the new Mac without migrating any new data over.
    4. Copy the following items from your old Mac to the new Mac:
In your /Home/ folder: Documents, Movies, Music, Pictures, and Sites folders.
    In your /Home/Library/ folder:
/Home/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (copy the whole folder)
/Home/Library/Application Support/iCal (copy the whole folder)
Also in /Home/Library/Application Support (copy whatever else you need including folders for any third-party applications)
    /Home/Library/Keychains (copy the whole folder)
    /Home/Library/Mail (copy the whole folder)
/Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist (* This is a very important file which contains all email account settings and general mail preferences.)
/Home/Library/Preferences/ copy any preferences needed for third-party applications
/Home /Library/iTunes (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/Safari (copy the whole folder)
    If you want cookies:
    /Home/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist
    /Home/Library/Application Support/WebFoundation/HTTPCookies.plist
    For Entourage users:
Entourage is in /Home/Documents/Microsoft User Data
    Also in /Home/Library/Preferences/Microsoft
Credit goes to another forum user for this information.
If you need to transfer data for other applications please ask the vendor or ask in the Discussions where specific applications store their data.
    5. Once you have transferred what you need restart the new Mac and test to make sure the contents are there for each of the applications.
