"The option FOR UPDATE is blocking the table instead of blocking the rows returned
by the SELECT .. FROM .. WHERE clause.
Is there any way to only block the affected rows; keeping in mind that I am using Power Builder."

well
it depends. if you design your application to have a mass update , then you may need to lock the entire qualifying rowset.
if you need to process record by record , it is better to include a COMMIT immediately after you complete UPDATE operation.
This immediate COMMIT is to avoid the EXPLICIT locking of records by POWERBUILDER. and This will facilitate other users
by allowing an access to the remaining records in the table.

The DELETED table is defined like that:
"The deleted table stores copies of the affected rows during DELETE and UPDATE statements. During the execution of a DELETE or UPDATE statement, rows are deleted from the trigger table and transferred to the deleted table."
Can i access these rows in ORACLE? I tried with ":old" but i couldn't obtain good results.

DB Update - How to Return the Number of Affected Rows?

I created a DB Adapter that updates a record. I'd like to know if there is a way to return the affected number of rows. Currently, the DB Adapter Wizard seems not to create a return for the generated XSD.

I have given a thought to that option too, however the issue is that, in order to use returning clause you have to use a temporary SQL variable which I believe can not be used unless we use a PL/SQL block (Please correct me, if I am wrong).
I wanted to get away with the option of re-querying the 'SELECT' or a PL/SQL Block. Any suggestions?

To insert a new row in a table control without affecting the other rows

I have a Table control TCTRL in a program .
The lt_tab contains two cols A and B
In change mode of the transaction Col A is in display mode and Col B is in change mode
When i press the + button to insert a new blank entry .I need a blank row with both col A and col B input enabled w/o affecting the display of above and below rows of table control

This is just to set the Col B in edit mode when in change and create status.
But if i press the INS button for that change i am coding inside the loop endloop of the pBO like
if itab is initial.

But the problems i it is setting the enite rows as input enabled . I want tos et only that row inpur enabled

Can I sort a column in Numbers without affecting the associate rows?

I have a schedule with date columns and lists of names. I would like to sort the names alphabetically in each column, but the rows are tied to the column. Is there a way to sort each column without effecting the entire table?

Why would you put data in different columns of the same row that don't have any relationship to each other? The purpose of a row is to create a record of related data. The Apple guys are sticklers about things like this. If that bothers you, reverting to Excel is your best option.

Problems copying a row and pasting it in the following row

In a Numbers table I have 400 rows with data separated each one by a blank row
row 2 has data
row 3 is blank
row 4 has data
row 5 is blank ... and so on.
I have prepared a small script to copy row 2 into row 3, row 4 into row 5,... as follows:

The idea is:
1 select the initial row (in this case row 2)
2 check if the value of first cell of the row is cero, then exit the repeat loop
3 else
4 copy the entire row, move down a row and paste.
5 move to the next row
6 repeat
The first time I run the script it worked until the row 124 and stopped. I tried again changing the inicial row and it worked only for 7 rows. The third time it erased all the cells with data. I've tried closing both the table and the script but the problems persists: in this case it stops after replacing 5 rows.
Where am I wrong?

database using the fillby query.
It works, but it repopulates the same row each time, but i want to be able to display multiple records at the same time, a new row should be filled for
each click of the fillby button.
also I want to be able to delete any records if the customer suddenly decides to not buy an item after it has already been entered.
so actually 2 questions here:
1. how to populate a new row for each click of the fillby button
2. how to delete records from data grid view after an item has been entered

Hello,
The FillBy method loads data according to what the results are from the SELECT statement, so if there is one row then you get one row in the DataGridView, have two rows then two rows show up.
Some examples
Form load populates our dataset with all data as it was defined with a plain SELECT statement. Button1 loads via a query I created after the fact to filter on a column, the next button adds a new row to the existing data. When adding a new row it is appended
to the current data displayed and the primary key is a negative value but the new key is shown after pressing the save button on the BindingNavigator or there are other ways to get the new key by manually adding the row to the backend table bypassing the Adapter.
The following article with code shows this but does not address adapters.
Conceptually speaking the code in the second code block shows how to get the new key

Data Sets - Is there a way to put two fields in the same row?

I am working on my first Spry Data Set (in Dreamweaver CS4) which, if I can get it figured out, will eventually be used as a calendar on a client's web site. You can see the beginning of the project here:

My question is, can I put two or more fields on one row? Specifically, I would like the part that looks like this...

I tried simply moving the fields (in Design View) so that they looked like they would be in the same row, but as you can see, that didn't do the trick. (You can see what I did here, in the highlighted part of the screenshot: http://www.rieradesignco.com/spryquestion.jpg). I also tried nesting a table within the table on my html data document that contained the three fields I needed - it worked okay, but that just makes the table more difficult to work with. I don't want to simply type the three items into one field, because it will be a long list and they all need to line up perfectly.
Is there another way to do it?

Hiding bloc of Lines in a web template in the last row

I want to hide a bloc of lines in a web query.
Here I use the table interface with the method
characteristic cell according to the "How to" - paper
(How to hide a column).
Normally , there is no problem to set the tag
'' in the first column of the row, I want to display again.
But the problem is the last row. Here I must close the
tag in the last column of the last row. The effect is
something like a double line at the end of the output.
(I think, I see here another time the first column of
a row, because I cannot close the tag properly)
As a result, I have problems with the print manager, we use to enhance the web printing.
Can someone give me the information, how to close the tag
in a proper way at the last row.

Hi,
I don't think this is possible. I would try to use c_cell_extend to extend the style of each <td>-Tag with style="visibility:hidden; display:none" This should have the same affect (for all cells which have to be hidden) (depending on your table styles there might be some padding or spacing effects; you have to try this out).

How to find out, who locked the same row

I have a problem,
sometimes our user complain that, when he tyring to make a transaction to a specific customer's Account
its says 'Some other user access the same account, keep trying...' (like this).
and in this response I just kill that user's session. then he can make the transaction by reconnecting.
sometimes my solution(killing the session) can not slove this problem.it stayed even 5/6 hours long.
in this time,i cannot find any bloking session or such a long waiting session.

There are many users who are locking different rows of the same table at the

I am programing one java class that put values in the
form field through the table name, sample,
UD_RESOURCE_DEPARTMENT.
I let some code:

Looping the same answer from the 1st row in the table

I have a database with 3 tables: (1) employeeTable (2) cityTable (3)stateTable.
I reference the employee's city name and state code by each id number from the cityTable and stateTable.
My Employee table has about 10 records, 3 has an idcity and idstate input, the rest are blank.
(1st row) id 9 for Henderson, id 28 for NV (6th row) id 9 for Henderson, id 28 for NV, and (10th row) id 10 for Las Vegas, id 28 for NV
I run a query:

What's making this loop having the same answer from the 1st row and affects all the rows with blank info or different info?

As Dan rightly says, take a look into table joins; there's no point just giving you the answer as you'll just get stuck next time and these forums are to help people rather than to do their jobs for them.
What you're looking to do is a relatively simple join, so you shouldn't have to read up for long before you've mastered them. Plus your site will be significantly more efficient

Blocking the order from subscriptions.

Hi all,
I got a new requirment where i need to block my orders. The Orders will be created with reference to the subscription already created.
Once the subscription is created, i can block the subscription by executing some 'Z' programs which is using the configurations mentioned below.
Configuration:
IMG > Logistics Execution > Shipping > Deliveries > Define Reasons for Blocking in Shipping
But while maintaining the above configuration it is blocking the delivery only, not the order.
So we thought of adding a new block in the above configuration for both the order block and delivery block.
Is there any possible user exit which i can refer to proceed furthur?.or any configuration is there thru which i can block the order.

in the insert into looping, I declare a t_row_numbering variable which is incremented everytime a row is inserted. So everytime a record is inserted, the t_row_numbering is put in the description field, telling me which the order of the row inserted.
But, I've resolved this problem by re downloading the report from the source and modify it again. I'm just wondering what's the cause. Oh well, job goes on.

How to trigger the automated row fetch process and open modal window by javascript api?

I would like to click the one row of column of IR report, to open the modal window of current page. <----------------it is ok. I can use "javascript:openModal('windowID')" to do it.
There is one form in this modal window, Meanwhile, I would like to pass column data to this form.    <--------------------- it is ok also. I can use " $s('P7_ID','column_value');" to do it.
But I don't know how to trigger the "automated row fetch" process of this form to retrieve other field's value in this form.
I tried to use following 2 ways. But failed.
First method:
add one ajax process of "automated row fetch" in "page processing" block, named "get_fetch_data"
when click IR column , call "openModal", and call "apex.server.process ( "get_fetch_data", {}, { success: function( pData ) { } } );" , I tried to call above ajax process to refresh form. It is failed.
Second method:
add one process of "automated row fetch" in "page rendering" block, named "get_fetch_data"
when click IR column, call javascript api "apex.submit" to submit current page , then call "openModal".
such as : javascript:apex.submit({request:'MODIFY',set:{'P7_ID': #ID#}}); openModal('trade');
But it is failed also. the modal page is showed firstly. then page refresh. but modal window will not open again.
I am not sure if my thinking is right. Could you please provide any suggestion?

Hi Ping,
You can try to set the session state of your modal page's primary key before opening the modal page. Use one dynamic action (on click of IR row) with two true actions. First one to set session state of modal page pk, second on to open modal page.
Or you can add the modal page url as link in your report by extending your query:
select ...
,         apex_util.prepare_url( 'f?p='||:APP_ID||':7:'||:APP_SESSION||'::'||:DEBUG||':7:P7_ID'||COLUMN_VALUE ) as link
from ...
This will give you the url of the modal page, with set primary key.

Hello, i want to make a form which creates invoices. The problem is that i cannot make a block where textrows and articlerows can be inserted.. How can i setup a block to set the different rows???
example:

I'm not sure if I understand you completely but it seems that you are asking how to set up one block to have a multiline textbox as the first row, the second and third row containing 3 fields, adn the last row containing another multiline textbox. If this is the case, try creating several blocks instead. Each row could come from a different block, or you could combine like rows (2 and 3 for ex) into one block. Hope this helps.
