Video Button Linked To A Menu Can't Be Animated?

I need help (if available to solve this problem)!
I am trying to animate a video button on a menu (M1) that linked to the next menu (M2). Although M2 has an animated menu background, the video button on M1 is a still picture of the M2 menu. My "solution" doesn't work: Insert a short clip between the two menus, so the button on M1 can be animated using a poster frame on this clip but link the M1 menu button to a chapter point added to the last second of this clip (and darkened so it wouldn't show). The problem is that setting a poster frame earlier than this chapter point (where the M1 menu is linked to) doesn't work. The M1 video button will start at the chapter point (last 1 second) and not at the poster frame.
Is there a solution for my problem? I would appreciate any help.
Thanks in advance,
Laci.
(CS5 Encore.)

The Encore animated buttons are an example of an abstraction layer: there is no "animated button" in the DVD specs; Encore has the code under the hood to allow you to animate a button that is linked to a timeline - and only a timeline. I don't think this would work with a transition between menus, so I assume you are linking M1 (via a button) to a short timeline with an end action that takes it to M2. It is probably too short?
In any event, that's not what animated buttons do in Encore. Just do it the old fashioned way (without the Encore abstraction layer limitations). Just build the thumbnails into a motion background Then you can take them from any video source you want.

• Flash button link AS 3.0

I have a flash button link using actionscript 3.0. The animation is a fade in of a logo. The problem is that the button is only a link during the animation, ie. when the logo has fully faded in it stops becoming a link. Here is the actionscript code i am using, does anyone know where i am wrong? Thank you so much.
import flash.events.MouseEvent;
myButton.addEventListener(
MouseEvent.CLICK, myButtonFunction);
function myButtonFunction(event:MouseEvent):void {
var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest("http://flightswitch.com/home.html");
navigateToURL(request, "_self");

Hi,
If the logo animation is completely fade then the link is not enabled?
Is it?
Disable the logo button after it fade.

buttons link to certain pages on a website it will be displayed at.
If you want to see the flash video in place on the website,
visit www.loveandmarriagebridal.co.uk - i want to make the buttons
to link to the following pages.
button 1. www.loveandmarriagebridal.co.uk/index.php
button 2. www.loveandmarriagebridal.co.uk/about_us.php
button 3. www.loveandmarriagebridal.co.uk/

Could anybody please tell me exactly what i need to do in

net for a solution, but i honestly have no idea what im searching
for.
Your help would be very much appreciated

See which form of ActionScript you used to make the site.
Open the Actions panel and see whether you've chosen AS versions 1
& 2, or AS 3. If you've picked the earlier versions, you can
attach a link easily to each button by clicking on the button, and
adding a little code in the Actions panel. Turn on ScriptAssist to
make it easier. Click on "on" and choose "release" or "press" or
both. Then scroll down the commands on the left and add getURL. You
will then have a few lines that say something like, on(Release)
getURL("putyourpageurlhere"). See bottom for exact syntax. That's
all. The new .html or .php page will load when the button is
clicked.
If your buttons are not actually four-state buttons, but
graphic or movie clip symbols, you will have do it a little
differently. Instead of attaching the code to a button, you attach
it to a keyframe. You give your symbol an instance name in the
property panel, then in the Actions panel create a function that
says essentially: when you click on this instance (onRelease)
getURL.
If you're using AS3, the concept is similar but the code is
different. With a quick search you can find dozens of code examples
that you can cut and paste.
Here's that AS2 button code...

I have problems in links only mode, i can't playback my videos.

In a links only presentation, advancing through the slides is only achieved by clicking a hyperlink.
creating a hyperlink:
place a shape on the slide from the shapes tool or (Insert > Shape) to act as a clickable button,
right click the shape and select Add Link
select slide and choose a slide number to hyperlink to
you will still need to follow my directions for the video to play if it does not autoplay

Is it possible for me to have a button link to a website using DVD@ccess?
In other words, I have a menu with 3 buttons on it. 2 of those buttons will link to chapters on the track. The third button I would like to be able to press and it will go to a webpage.
Can this be done and if so, can you explain how?

• Can there be buttons/links on or in flash object?

Hi, I have no idea how to ask this question properly. I am only designing this, not making it, so simple answers for me would be good, but also technical answers that I can pass on to the flash person.
On my home page, I am going to have 3 images that switch out, each that need to have a "learn more >" link and a 1, 2, 3, and pause buttons.
My question is whether or not these image buttons/links can be placed on or embedded in the flash object. I read this is not possible and that buttons or links have to be separate from flash. Ideally if I wanted to place a "go" button on top of my flash image, that would be great.
However I have been told the only option is to make one side of this in photoshop where I have the buttons and then place that next to the flash image. My example of this would be the msn.com home page.
If further descriptions are needed I can post an example.

Your image hasn't loaded yet, so I'll describe what you should do. Chances are you will only need one set of buttons to manage everything rather than creating a set for each image.
If you want to convert each of these items into usable buttons, then select one of them, being sure that all its pieces are selected, then right click on it and select Convert to Symbol ( select it and in the toolbar choose Modify -> Convert to Symbol).
In the interface that appears, select Button (you could also select MovieClip, but for now, select Button) and give it a name that relates to its functionality in some way, just so it is recognizable by its name in the library. Click OK.
Do that for all of the items you want to turn into buttons. To make things easier to manage, you should place the buttons on their own layer in the timeline.
If you are handing this over to someone who knows Flash, they should be able to deal with coding the buttons to function the way you want.

• How can I set a button/link that is visible on all slides?

I want to add a button/link that is automatically visible on all slides (whole project). But it seems it does not work. Any help?

Hello,
It depends on your version. I hope you are on CP6 or later. In that case you have two possiblities:
a shape button on the main master slide (and be sure that all daughter master slides have the objects of the main master slide)
a shape button on the first slide, timed for the rest of the project.

• Both the 'delete' button and in the menu options do not delete messages but change them to unread. How can I remedy this?

The delete function seems to no longer work in Thunderbird. Both the 'delete' button and in the menu options do not delete messages but change them to unread.
I have tried to fix it by deleting the trash / deleted files as suggested in another thread but it made no difference. The delete key still works to delete things outside of Thunderbird (including here for example).
I have not uninstalled / reinstalled. I have rebooted a couple of times and it hasn't made any difference.
I did go through and delete a huge number of old emails a few days ago, but I have cleared out the Deleted folders and it made no difference.
All suggestions appreciated.

Right click on any of the other right panel headers in Slideshow module to open the context menu. You should be able to reactivate the Options panel from there.

• Button Link Transitions with Audio?

Ive got a question on what can be used as a Button Transition. I have a 10 sec. AV in PP2, that I want to use. In general, no problems. Ive Exported the Video to DV-AVI (silent), and it works beautifully. I only have to do a blend from the Menu for the head and then a still from the Timeline at the tail. No biggie. What I am having problems with is getting an SFX Audio file into the PP2 Sequence for this Transition. So far, I am having problems. I tried to make a Timeline for this AVI with an AC3 Audio, but Encore2 would not allow a link to it, via the Pickwhip. I tried to Import several variations of muxed files, but kept getting errors with the number of channels on Import. Then, I did a muxed MPEG file, and got my first big "Crash" of Encore2. When I linked to the M2v, I got something about Abbie Normal Condition. Wasnt he the founder of the Yippies back in the 60s, along with poet, Allen Ginsberg? The error (really An Abnormal Condition... Please try to Save... ) came up and I could not even exit from Encore2. Had to finally use TaskManager to kill the Process. This was a first for me after all of these years. Lesson - do not use the M2v as a Button Transition!
Now, Im certain that there are possibilities that I have not tried, but before I beat what could be a dead horse, I wanted to find out one thing: can I even have Audio in a Button Transition?
I have total control over my Asset, so I can engage in any workaround necessary. If anyone has any info (Help/Manual do not go deeply into specifics on Button Transitions, and even Jeffs Book, Focal Easy Guide... doesnt mention them, as I can find.), Id greatly appreciate it. Same for any ideas on using Audio for these. In my case, its a bit of an electronic whoosh with a long gong tone, and moves left to right and rear to front to rear (in the 5.1 version). I do not need to do 5.1, as stereo, panned left to right would work fine too.
Appreciate the direction, thoughts and ideas,
Hunt

Jbowden,
Thanks for the simple little test. I just linked my existing SFX AC3 to the Main Menu's Audio and it worked fine. The pan/fade of the 5.1 was intact and worked in Preview.
I Exported the Button Transition test as a DV-AVI/PCM WAV from PP2, and Imported as a Timeline into Encore2. Tested and it played fine, but there was just the left-right pan, as expected. Linked my Button #1 to the AVI, as it would not link to the Timeline (as before), and went to Preview - "An Abnormal Condition... Save... " happened again. It is obviously not just the M2v, but the AVI, as well.
Back to square one in my tests. I've been working with a preliminary, test Project in Encore. It was used to create a DVD set for client review of most other aspects of the Project. It contained 4 Dynamic Links to AE, which were rendered out, plus 2 Menus a short lead-in AVI and some other Assets. Without any Button Transitions, it previewed and burned perfectly.
What I am going to do now is create a fresh Encore2 Project. Initially, it will only have the Play First AVI, the two Menus (Main & Scene Selection) and then I'll work with just the Button Transitions - all other Assets will not be included. I want to eliminate any other possible problem from the mix.
One thing that occurred to me was that this Project was a very full DVD. Though the Transcode is Automatic, I wonder if I am now adding too much to an already Transcoded Project. Rather than clear all Caches, and Revert to the unTranscoded state in this Project, I'll build, instead, from scratch. If that works, I'll just do the Button Transitions for the Scene Select Menu (4 Buttons/Links) and test again. If it still goes well, I'll add in the Rendered AE files and probably not use DL this time. Then, I'll Transcode and test to see if it all holds up. This method will not tell us exactly where the problem lies, if it works at all, but then when I have time, I can go back and clean Caches and Revert the Assets for a final test.
To date, the motion-only Button Transitions worked fine. It was only when I have tried (several different schemes) to add Audio, that I have encountered the problem.
Should have the preliminary test this AM, as the Project is very simple and starting over is not a big deal.
One side observation that I have made is that after I had to use TaskManager to end the Encore2 Process the other day, it now takes Encore2 a few minutes to even get the Splash Screen up. This is new behavior. I also cannot shift focus to/from Encore2 (with PP2 open), by clicking on the icon in the Taskbar. Even Rt-clicking and choosing Restore does not Maximize it. Only by going to TaskManager and clicking on the Application does it Maximize. As this was my first Encore2 "Crash," I am not sure what might be happening there. If I can get this Project done, I'll probably do a Repair Installation of Encore2, to see if the new behavior subsides.
Thanks for the input. Will be back with followups.

• Button not selectable/glitching menu

I am authoring a DVD in Encore. I have made a menu with a movie background and two seperate buttons (each links to a seperate movie file). I have made the buttons by selecting the text tool from the top left of the screen, typing a word, then selecting Object/Convert to Button. My two buttons are placed one above the other. When I preview the menu in encore, I can select each button with the mouse. But when I press down on the virtual dvd remote, I can't select the second button. None of the arrow keys on the virtual remote will allow me to get from the first button to the second (and vice versa). Also, every time I press one of the arrow keys (or put my mouse over one of the buttons) the menu glitches, the music stopping and the image distorting for a second.
Both of these problems were confirmed when I burned off a DVD and played it in my DVD player on my TV.
The first movie file is dynamically linked from Premiere Pro. The second is an .avi, exported from Premiere and imported into Encore. The background video for the menu is also an .avi.
Premiere Export Media Settings:
PAL widescreen
100% quality
Sound 16 Bit
48khz
Encore Settings:
Maximum Audio/Video Bitrate: 8.0 Mbps
Audio Transcoding Scheme: PCM.
I suspect that the way I'm creating buttons is wrong, and that this might explain both problems... However, the two problems could also be seperate.
If you have any suggestions about how to get fix these problems, I'd greatly appreciate it!
Cheers!
-Robert

Select the button routing in menu view and confirm that the navigation is set up correctly. If you want/need to change it, make sure automatic routing is turned off.
If that is not it or you have trouble checking that, post a screen shot of the menu viewer with button routing selected if you can.

• Using a Video Button. Do I have to make a timeline for video clip?

I am just learning how to use Encore CS6 and I have a question.
When I add a Video Button to my menu and want add a video clip inside that button do I have to make that clip its own Timeline or can I keep the clip in my Project Panel and just Drag and Drop it into the Video Button itself?
Thanks in advance

Thanks, but I have another question:
Let's say I have made made 20 new individual 30 Second QT Movies (or QT Reference Movies to save Hard Drive Space), and I want to use them on a Menu that I will constuct using a Template Menu and Submenus found in Encore CS 6.
I make my Menu ans Submenus and put 20 Video Buttons on 4 Submenus (5 on each Submenu). I import all 20 of my Newly Made QT Movies that I am going to use for the Video Buttons.
In order to place them in each Video Button, I would have to make 20 Different Timelines each consisting on an Individual 30 second QT movie and linking each timelone to a different button?
Is that how it works?
Do I have to have these timelines open, or can I just link to them inside the Project Pane in Encore?
Can I put all 20 QT movies on one Timeline, add markers to the beginning of each one and link the Video Buttons to each indivifual QT movie?
Thanks in advamce

/* ~~ These are the columns for the layout. ~~
1) Padding is only placed on the top and/or bottom of the divs. The elements within these divs have padding on their sides. This saves you from any "box model math". Keep in mind, if you add any side padding or border to the div itself, it will be added to the width you define to create the *total* width. You may also choose to remove the padding on the element in the div and place a second div within it with no width and the padding necessary for your design.
2) No margin has been given to the columns since they are all floated. If you must add margin, avoid placing it on the side you're floating toward (for example: a right margin on a div set to float right). Many times, padding can be used instead. For divs where this rule must be broken, you should add a "display:inline" declaration to the div's rule to tame a bug where some versions of Internet Explorer double the margin.
3) Since classes can be used multiple times in a document (and an element can also have multiple classes applied), the columns have been assigned class names instead of IDs. For example, two sidebar divs could be stacked if necessary. These can very easily be changed to IDs if that's your preference, as long as you'll only be using them once per document.
4) If you prefer your nav on the left instead of the right, simply float these columns the opposite direction (all left instead of all right) and they'll render in reverse order. There's no need to move the divs around in the HTML source.

• HT3209 I have downloaded a Video on my iPhone 5 & I can watch it. But I am unable to watch on my ipad 3 it won't load & keeps saying it hasn't downloaded & there is a problem. Please can anyone help?

I have downloaded a video on my iPhone 5 & can play it. But it won't play on my iPad it says it can't download it & there is an error. Please can anyone help?

As it says on the page that you posted from :
If you download a rented movie on your iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV: It is not transferable to any other device or computer.
Why it's like that I don't think that Apple have said (these are user-to-user forums). If you haven't downloaded it on your iPad then have you checked to see if you can download it on your computer's iTunes (Store > Check For Available Downloads menu option) or Apple TV ?
If it doesn't show on either of them then you can try contacting iTunes Support and see if they will let you download it on a different computer/device or refund or credit you : http://reportaproblem.apple.com
If the 'report a problem' link doesn't work then you can try contacting iTunes Support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page
