Bogus flags in Mavericks Mail

Since upgrading to Mavericks my Mail has 11 Flags showing (9 Red and 2 Green), but no emails showing when I open either flag folder.
Any idea on how to clear the bogus flags?

i have the same problem with red and green flags. Emails that have been flagged and then unflagged still show up in the red flag/green flag mailbox. Also my unread mail box says i have 4 unread but i cant find them

  • With maverick Mail won't let me search at all. Anyone able to help?

With my new powerbook came Maverick. Now mail won't let me search at all. Can anyone help me solve this please?

I have exactly the same problem. I received an important mail just two days ago and search doesn't even find it. Flagged mail no longer works either, so it's nigh on impossible for me to find my mails to respond to later. It's accurate to say that to me, in general Mavericks Mail.app is no longer a useful mail tool since it utterly breaks my mark-for-later-response workflow.
What's worse is that this is a massive regression. This all used to work fine. It's somewhat upsetting that I can use my four-year-old Apple laptop to effectively use email and yet my brand new one is useless. With "progress" like this, how can Apple expect brand loyalty?
EDIT: In case any Apple people read this, I am using a Google Apps mail account.

  • Mavericks Mail rules broken, run wild on Update 1.0

I see lots of people have had issues with Mavericks Mail and rules no longer working. Mine worked fine until the update 1.0 fix was released. This is what I am experiening - seemingly different from everyone else's broken rules - I wonder if anyone has any ideas:
This is on a POP mail account:
    - Rules re-run on already downloaded mail every time mail is checked for. So for example, a rule that sends an automatic reply resend that repy every time mail is checked (every 5 minutes) even though the mail is already downloaded. The original mail is also marked as 'unread' again, even after its been read (if relevant: Mail is set to delete server messages immediately, but it makes no difference what that setting is.)
    - If I uncheck the rule in the list, close preferences, then reopen preferences and re-check the rule, it stops its rerunning.
    - Rules with a 'move' command either dont move the mail, or copy instead of move, or occasionally do indeed move the mail.
    - Rules with a 'run applecript' command: the applescript generates an error when trying to access the mail details eg sender, and stops running. This even happens with the sample Applescript provided by Apple for accessing mail with Applescript.
    - Rules that set or remove a flag - mostly do nothing, occasionally setor remove the flag, but as soon as Mail checks for Mail, the flag reverts to its previous state.
I also note that while update 1.0 corrected the 'unread count' bug. the same bug continues to exist in the mail activity window, if you have it open - the number of outgoing or incoming mails is cumulative since approx the last time the compter was restarted (does not seem to be related to when Mail itself was restarted.)
I have repaired permissions as well as the home folder permissions using the magical resetpassword command in the recovery mode, but nothing changes.
Any ideas? I'd be so grateful, although I suspect we need to wait for 10.9.3 (in my past experience, all OS X releases break Mail, and they are fixed by .3. Great.)

In our office we use Thunderbird everywhere (OSX, Windows, Linux), and we are really happy with it.
Its gui it's not nice as Mail's, but it can do everything you ask it to do, and more.

  • How can I transfer all my files from Mavericks Thunderbird to Mavericks Mail

How can I transfer all my files from Mavericks Thunderbird to Mavericks Mail?
    Bonjour,

  • Is there a way to import Outlook 2010 emails  to Mavericks Mail without 3rd party software?

I'm hoping that there is a fairly straight-forward way this can be done.
My friend has just purchased a MacBook Air with Mavericks operating system.  This is her first Mac and she needs to get all her old business emails onto her new MacBook.
She paid for '1 on 1' Apple support and had a session with an 'expert' yesterday - taking along her old PC laptop in the hope that he could help her.  He basically told her she should 'start a new life using Mail'.  This is not what she needed to hear.
I'm using Mail version 5.3 on my 5 year old MacBook with OS X 10.7.5.  I don't want to give her incorrect advice but my version of Mail allows one to Import mailboxes but not, unfortunately, it would seem emails from Microsoft programs for the PC.
    My question is this -
Once she has created an Outlook Data File (.pst format) is there a way she can convert this to .mbox format so that the data can be imported into Mavericks Mail without the use of third-party software?
I'm sure that she's certainly not the first person who has faced this situation but, from the attitude of the (less than helpful) Apple help person I fear that the answer may not be yes.
    Cheers

Do you know where she should look on her Outlook program to find this out?  She hasn't started using Mail yet because she hasn't been able to transfer her emails - so she's still sending/receiving emails from her laptop PC.
No idea, I try not to have anything to do with Outlook except provide a way out of it for the sensible. But aren't you an Outlook user?
Here's the link to the site I found -
    http://www.outlooktomail.com/buy-now-for-mac/
That should be fine, it is the same as the one in the Mac app store (which would be the preferred version to use)
My 'help' situation is a little worse than it would first seem - we're in different countries (very grateful for Viber) - her attention span for matters technological is rather short so I'm trying to make everything as painless as possible - and yes, she has backups of her backups so all should be well in that regard.
Thanks so much for your help.

    You're welcome.

  • Mavericks Mail-cannot scroll down to select a group by holding mouse button.

I do not like the new Mavericks mail. When I attempt to hold the left mouse button and scroll down to select a group, the program automatically locks onto the first message I touch and moves it. Prior to Mavericks scrolling was an easy process. This new mail is very clumsy and I have to select one message, then hold shift key, then selelct the last message in the group. ....Clumsy and slow.
Does anyone know a workaround for this? The tutorials don't address it and the "What's new in Mail?" file doesn't either.  If there is not a workaround, is there a way to disable the Mavericks configuration in Mail and go back to regular mail? I'd appreciate any tips or help on  this.

Okay, I tried deleting the Finder preferences first (along with a handful of other preference files that I knew were no longer needed), and it seemed to help--at first. But eventually, all the same problems started happening again, so I concluded that it was necessary to just start with a fresh (empty) preferences folder. As you know, this is a pain to deal with, but I limited my pain by moving all the old preferences files into a folder on the Desktop rather than simply deleting them. That way, I could just put back any missing preferences that were too hard to recreate. Restoring all of my preferences with new (uncorrupted) prefs files will be an ongoing process, but the good news is that this effort (so far) seems to have solved the problem. Mail is responding to all my clicks, even when I switch between different apps and different spaces.  :-)
Now that things are working correctly, I notice that when I switch between apps and/or spaces, the selected app (or the frontmost app in the new space) will show an active state for its window, whereas before, the selected app didn't update to show that it was active--it kept the inactive state for its window. I'm no expert, but it seems to me that this might have something to do with the windowserver process, so it might make sense for the next person who stumbles on this thread to start by deleting any preferences files that begin with com.apple.windowserver. Just a hunch, but it's worth starting there before you do a complete flush of all your preferences.
Thanks again for the help--hopefully this workaround will be persistent. Fingers crossed!

  • Maverick Mail - How to have default where attachments are "View as Icons", and not to display entire document

When I attach files to Mail 7.3 it often displays the entire file, not the icon. I find this highly annoying. Yes, I can one-by-one right click on the document and instruct Mac to send the file as in icon only. But I would prefer Mavericks Mail to default to a convention where all attachments are icons, not viewable docs.
    Any fix for this?

    try this:
    Open a Terminal window.
Type this (it must be exact):    defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing -bool yes
    hit return
    restart mail.

  • In Mavericks "Mail" I am unable to access the BCC: line or to put a contact on that line for sending.

In Mavericks Mail I am unable to access the BCC: line for sending a blind carbon copy.  I open my Contacts list, select a person, and when I click on the BCC: box above in the Contacts window, the person is not entered onto a line in the email for receiving a BCC: and the BCC: line does not even appear.  Thoughts from all you experts out there?

I managed to find the answer to my own question.  As shown in the screenshot below, the header field area on a new message contains a small lined box in the lower left corner of it.  If you click on the lined box, it allows you to customize the Header field, such as adding a BCC: line.

  • List of CC's in Mavericks Mail App

Whenever I receive and display an email in Mavericks Mail, my name always appears first in the list of cc's, no matter the order in which the sender of the email put them.
How do I change this back to what 10.8 Mail App did, i.e., by simply displaying those in the cc line according to the manner in which the sender put them?
    Thanks!

It does it in the To: field too (when there's more than one address in the field), which I find even more disconcerting than the cc: field. In business, there are nuances implied by which name comes first, second, third in a group email. This very definitely should be an optional setting that is not turned on by default. If anyone knows of any way, no matter how complex, to resurrect the previous behavior in Apple Mail of preserving the email address order selected by the original sender, I would love to get that information.
Apple has been twiddling with with Apple Mail over the last several releases of the operating system, and in almost every case it seems that they're making bad choices, not good ones. I still prefer Apple Mail over Outlook, but when the next version of Outlook comes out I all need to consider it carefully. There are many other good choices out there, but I absolutely have to have an application that directly supports the creation of Exchange accounts. That greatly narrows down the field.

  • Mavericks mail will not allow me to add a gmail account

    Help!
I am using running OSX Mavericks, including the new version of Mail 7.0 (1822). I cannot add a GMail account. Going through Mail: Preferences: Accounts, I give the information, but then get told:
There was a problem setting up the account.
Unable to verify account name or password.
If I click ok (the only option), Mail quits, so I cannot use the Connection Doctor to see what else is happening.
All my other programs that access the internet work, and I can access google calendar, for example, via BusyCal.
There must be something simple happening.... By the way, Mavericks Mail works perfectly on my machine at work!
    Suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!
    Roger

I had the same issue...I called apple support and they gave me the following instructions. Seems to be working perfectly fine.
    - Go to Apple Mail
    - Hit on Preferences, go to Accounts and hit the "+" button
    - Select "Add other mail account", and hit continue
    - Enter your Full Name, email address, and password (DO NOT HIT CREATE)
    - Push down the option key, and while holding down the option key hit "NEXT"
    - It will route you to the Incoming Mail Server Info window, here you will type in the Mail Server as: imap.gmail.com. Again type in your user name (complete email) and password. And again, hold down the option key, and while holding down the option key hit "NEXT".
    - Then it wil route you to the Outgoing Mail Server. Type in the Outgoing Mail Server as: smtp.gmail.com, and again your email and password.
    -Hit Create
Once you see the email account on your Apple Mail sidebar, go to compose a new message and send yourself an email to the new email account from your new email account
This worked for me and synced all my folders. Hope it works for you as well.

Try to force quit the mail app
Double tap the home button. When you see the app previews on the screen scroll sideways if needed to get the preview in question on the screen. Flick that preview up and off the screen to close the app. Single tap the home button or home screen preview to exit the mode.
Failing that, go into the settings, mail, contacts and calendars and remove your account info then put it back in and see if that works

  • The User Name in Mavericks Mail mail preferences Not Correctible

    Hi all,
The User Name in Mavericks Mail mail preferences is incorrect for one of my accounts, so the account won't function.  It keeps asked for the password.  When I change it to the correct User Name and go to the account, the entry automatically switches back to the incorrect User Name.  How do I fix this?
    Thanks,
    Jim

The root user is NOT the owner of that little house. That belongs to the user that's logged in. To change that, see Changing user account shortname.
    BTW, you're a youngster.

  • Mavericks mail server stops distributing group email after a few hours of usage

I've been having problems with our Mavericks mail server ever since our upgrade with group mail.
The server will distribute group email for a few hour, then it simply stops working.
No error message, no bounces, and the server keeps the incoming mail in its incoming queue.
Restarting the mail services by either server.app or serveradmin mail stop; serveradmin mail start command like  are the only way I can get it to continue to distribute the email.  I suspect it has to do with postfix itself hiccuping?  But this is a reproducable problem.
Mail filtering is on, score set to 6, 10 mb limit, spamhaus is active.
Looking for tips on how to stablize this service short of setting up cron job to restart the services every few hours.

I know this is not the fix you are looking for, but it's what I had to do, so I thought I'd share.
Hopefully, someone will be able to figure it out the "right" way!
I created this AppleScript that will stop and start the mail service every hour.
You can copy and paste it into AppleScript Editor, compile it and save it as an application.  You can then run it.  You need to run it from an administrator account and keep that user logged in.
If once an hour (every 3600 seconds) is too often, just change 3600 to however many seconds you want.
Be sure to change AdminPassword with the Admin user's actual password.
    repeat
do shell script "/Applications/Server.app/Contents/ServerRoot/usr/sbin/serveradmin stop mail" password "AdminPassword" with administrator privileges
      delay 60
do shell script "/Applications/Server.app/Contents/ServerRoot/usr/sbin/serveradmin start mail" password "AdminPassword" with administrator privileges
              delay 3600
    end repeat

Why does Maverick mail no longer search properly?
I used to search for a name and it would find it in One or All mailboxes. Now it sometimes works, but mostly not. Any solutions?

I would like to add that Comcast is my internet provider. Perhaps that is part of the issue although the Connection Doctor confirms the mail box is connecting to the internet. No other function processes when Connection Doctor program is used to find the source of the issue. I have read forum posts but am unable to find a way to get my Apple mail to be delivered to my computer. It worked fine up until I chose to transfer mail to the Cloud. My mail account is a .mac account.
Still hoping someone out there can help me.
    thanks,

Hi, In Mavericks Mail , I can´t transfer the adresses direkt by clicking to the "to" or the Bcc - field ... ?

Are you looking for the button on the To field? If so, it is on the right side of the To field (little blue + )
Click inside the To field and it will appear on the right.
