BOM Definition

Hello, I'm new potential future user of SAP. Our company is present in Electronic Assembly industry and I have question for BOM creation for our special cases.
In electronic manufacturing we work with PCB(Printed Circuit Boards) whic ahe in panel form. On this panels we can have several diferent products with different BOM's which are separated at phase of depaneling or separation process.
First phase of pick&place is done on one single panel with several BOM's(PANEL=Prod_AProd_BProd_C) and we would like to use only one Work order or Production order for that. We would like to therat this product as single product with built materials until separation of products to entities is executed.
This can be formulated also as single BOM with phantoms for Prod_A,Prod_B,Prod_C, but by my undersanting phantomsare just some logical structures for helping to build hierarchical structure of BOM.
After separation proces we separate this  products to Prod_A,Prod_B,Prod_C, but here comes now my question. Is it possible to connect informations about built in materials on panel in right quantities to each product separatley Prod_A,Prod_B,Prod_C as it would be for instance defined under each phantom for each product?
We need that information in process of traceability.
I hope and I believe that there are solutions in SAP ERP for that, but to find out solution I need your help.
Best regards!

Bejingaf,
The reason that me as non SAP expert is that we were already several times discussing with consultants...In our area they have no experience with electronic manufacturing industries.
I would say you have hired the wrong consulting company.  I suggest you dismiss the existing company, or hire additional expertise which will actually be helpful in solving your business problems.  You are not doing yourself any favors by compensating for an inadequate consultant by looking in a forum for answers.
Variant BOM's
I have to be careful here, because in SAP 'Variant' in planning means something specific, and it appears in your description you are asking about something else. So, I will answer the question exactly as it was asked.  If you actually mean 'Variant configuration', please let me know
You can create a BOM for a material, and any number of alternate BOMs.  In your example, you would have one of your alternate BOMs contain the A/B/C/D materials, and in alternate BOM number 1, you could have all your A1/B1/C1/D1 materials.  Selecting the proper alternate would automatically select the 'right' components that 'fit' with each other.
BOM with several products()
Your description is somewhat confusing, so I will give some generic solutions.  You could have one production order in which you create the panel.  This production order can have any number of components and any combination of BOMs, but you are building a 'Panel", which would be considered as a manufactured subassembly..
Now, you want to separate the panel into three products, and you want to execute this process on 3 different work centers.  I don't see how this makes sense.  At the point you are separating the panel, it can only be done on a single machine or by a single person.  Only after the 3 products are separated can you process them through multiple work centers.  I suppose you could add a production order for just the 'separation' activity.  In this order, the material that you build would be for 'unfinished product A', your BOM would contain components 'Panel', and two co-products 'unfinished product B' and 'unfinished product C'.  If it were my factory, I would combine this step with the previous process.  Instead of building 'panels', I would build 'unfinished A/B/C using the same co-product logic.  Once the unfinished A/B/C are in stock, you can then create three orders for FGs, each of which could be capacity managed.
This is not the only solution.  Much depends upon your other business requirements.
Here is some info about co-products.

Here is what I was talking about concerning 'Variants'.  I am assuming that you are not using this scenario.

    Hi Cecille,
    When adding template BOMs to a marketing document via the DI API, you only need to add the BOM header item and not the components. When the DI API adds the document it will copy the components from the BOM definition. This is why your components are doubling up. If you want to be able to edit the components then you'll need to add the PO using the DI API (with just the BOM header in your XML) and then reload it in to a PO object. You'll then be able to loop through the component lines and edit quantities etc.

  • Labour/ FOH Item in BOM

    I have a problem defining labour/foh item in bom I add labour item in BOM its valuation method is Standard. and for GL account determination I choose p&L a/c for stock account so that when the item is being issued it should hit the cost account instead of inventory account bcoz it is non inventory item. but when the finish good is sold there is a varience standing in cost account bcoz the finish good is on moving average method. Any one with better understanding of defining Labour item in BOM pls advise

    Hello Abbas,
    I did not completely understand your question but confirming on the labor item for BOM.  It should be defined in the Item Master of type Labor.  In the Inventory data tab set the valuation method to Standard and define a cost for the labor.  A labor item in the BOM definition should be defined with issue method Backflush.

  • PLD Production Order need to add BOM lines

    I have a need to add the comments from the BOM lines table (ITT1) to the production order.
    As soon as I add the field (copied the definition from the BOM report) the lines go wild.  I go from 5 lines to 35 lines with the production components printing multiple times.
    Any body have a way to link the BOM lines to the production order lines so I get the right lines printing?

    I would suggest you create a user field at the Production Order Rows and use the following formatted search to copy the comments from the BOM definitions.
    This user field can be easily added to the PLD and will help avoid duplicating rows which you are currently facing.
    SELECT T0.Comment FROM  [dbo\].[ITT1\] T0  WHERE T0.Code = $\[$37.4.0]   AND  T0.Father = $\[$6.0.0]

  • Equipment BOM & Plant assignment

    Dear All,
    My client having two Maintenance Plant which is 1001 & 1002 & having one planning plant which is 1001.
    Here 1001 plant executes the maintenanace of 1001 & 1002 plant.
    Actually we have created one Equipment in plant 1002, so its maintenance plant is 1002 & its planning plant is 1001, in this condition when i am going to create Equipment BOM through tcode IB01, then which plant needs to be assigned to that Equipment BOM.....1001 or 1002 ??
    Thanks & Regards,
    Sandeep

    Sandeep,
        As equipment has been created in Plant 1002, in equipment BOM creation, plant should be 1002. Equipment BoM definition plant would be based on the equipment location.
    Hope this will help you.

  • Doubt in formatted search query

    HI all
    This is the query i have seen in the forum
    Regarding linking of the UDF size in BOM to Production Order,
    you will need to create a formatted seach as the tables where the UDF exists are different.
    In case your UDF is at the row level then use the following SQL
    SELECT T0.U_SIZE FROM DBO.ITT1 WHERE T0.FATHER = $http://$6.0.0 AND T0.CODE = $http://$37.4.0
    Set this to auto refresh Exiting Alterned column Due Date.
    Can any one tell me what  does the following syntax mean
    T0.FATHER = $http://$6.0.0
    AND
    T0.CODE = $http://$37.4.0
    what is 37.4.0 and 6.0.0.
    or any one help me whre can i find the materials for the above things.

    FATHER refers to the Parent Item Code in the BOM definition
    CODE refers to the Child Item Code in the BOM definition
    If you Open the Production Order and Enable System Information from the View Menu and place your Cursor on the Product No field you will see the Item No on the Task Bar.
    $[/$6.0.0] - 6 refers to the Product No field on the Production Order form
    Similarly in $[/$37.4.0] - 37 refers to the Item Code at the Row level 4 refers to the column number in the matrix and 0 refers to the type
    Ignore the / I have used above

  • XML Publisher "before report trigger"

    I would like to create a new XML Publisher report for Oracle EBS, whereby I can explode a BOM definition before the report fires, but I'm not sure how to go about this in the sql portion of the XML data definition file. Any direction on where to gain this info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Actually, I just found the following in the 11.5 XDO UG, which I believe answers my own question:
    <dataTrigger name="beforeReport" source="employee.beforeReport()"

    <dataTrigger name="beforeReport" source="employee.beforeReport(:Pa

  • H ow  toTrack  the "UOM" & RM details  during sub contracting..

    Hello experts,
                          There is a scenario where in like am facing with my clients,
          my client company is a manufacturing company, as if now 75% of job was done through sub-contract only, and 25 % of job was done in their own warehouse,so they want to tack their item which is going out for sub-contracting, (for example) they are transferring  their raw materials in "KILOGRAM" to sub-contractors, while receiving as semi finished they get in "Numbers". so i want to Track the "UOM"  as well consuming of raw materials also.
    kindly advice how to map this scenario..

    Hi Chandrashekhar,
    You need to create BOM-Bills of material for that activity (changing RM item to Semi Finished item) and complete the production process.
    In BOM definition you need to mention Semi finished item as Parent Item and RM as Child Item.By doing this you will have the different UOM as both the items are different.
    You can create new warehouse with name of sub-contractor, and use in above process to track material lying with sub contractor.
    You will have to track other commercial activities separately, like creating Purchase Order on the name of Sub-contractor for services, and completing the Purchase cycle there. Where as stock level transactions are to be create by posting BOM,Production Order,Issue for Production(RM in KG to Sub contractor whare house),Receipt from Production(Semin finished item in No. to main ware house).
    Hope by following above steps you can do the desired functionality.

  • Definition of Recursive in BOM

    Hai All,
    For scenario below, I know that Component A is Recursive, is it Component C is Recursive too? If no, please kindly help me to enlighten me, because my understanding, Component C is already in order BOM at Level 1.
                       A
           ============
           B                   C (Level1)
    =======
    A           C  (Level 2)  => Higher Level is component B
    I`ve tried to create scenario in SAP:
                                            A
                                  ============
                                  B                   C (Level1)
                           =========
                            E           D (Level 2) => Higher Level is component B
                     =========
                      F           G (Level 3) => Higher Level is component E
               ========
               H            D (Level 4) => Higher Level is component F
    but according to SAP, Component D is Recursive. Does anybody can help me to explain why it recursive ?
    Thks in advance,
    willy

    Hi,
    If a BOM (B) is to be recursive , that BOM header (B) contains a component (A) with same material Number (A)  as Superior Assembly (A).
    For First case
    A - is recursive
    C - no need to be recursive.
    Second case:
    D is not need to be recursive.
    before the Please letus give the details about BOM for D ifany.
    However u can actiavte "recurs.allowed ind" at Basic data view in the item overview screen of D in Header BOM F, to avoid the Error message.
    Please check and comebck

  • Sale order bom

    dear sir,
       can you tell be how to create sale order bom(master bom) from the beginning. please give detailed process right from creating sale order. my requirement is to have a single bom which can be changer according to customers requirement
    tahnking you
    arun kumar .r.v

    Hi,
    We need to maintain Material master records for the BOM Item and for the components also.
    The <b>item category group</b> of the BOM items should be <b>‘ERLA or LUMF’</b> and the item category is ‘NORM’.
    To Creating BOM item: Tcode - CS01
    Specify the data for the following fields.
    Material: Specify the material for which components are to be maintained.
    Plant: Specify the plant of BOM item.
    BOM usage: Specify the application in which BOM is maintained (5 for SD).
    Alternative BOM: Specifies the sequence of a BOM within a group of BOMs.
    (L = stock item                  N = Non-stock item)
    In the overview screen specify the components which makes the main item and the corresponding quantities and save it.
    Note: During sales document processing if we enter the BOM item the system automatically determines corresponding components.
    I   *For the BOM to be exploded in the sales document the following customizing  setting is required.
    A) If the item category group is ERLA the item category of the BOM is TAQ, in the definition of which we have to specify the value A (Explode single level BOM) in the structure scope.
    B) If the item category group is LUMF the item category of the BOM item is TAP in the definition of which we have to specify the value A in the field structure scope.
    II   If the item category group is LUMF the system shows price for the components but not for the BOM item. For this the following customizing setting is required.
    A)     The item category of the BOM item is TAP which is not relevant for pricing, so the BOM item is not Priced.
    B)     The item category of the components is TAN which is relevant for pricin! g, so the components are priced
    III        If the item category group is ERLA the system shows price for the BOM item but not for components. For this following customizing setting is required.
    A)   The item category of BOM item is TAQ, which is relevant for pricing, so the BOM is priced.
    B)    The item category of components is TAE which is not relevant for pricing, so the components are not priced.
    While creating sales document to get the list of alternative BOMs in the definition item category of BOM item we have to check the field “Manual Alternative”
    Rewards if this helps you,
    cheers,

  • Customer scheduling agreement - explosion of BOM

    Hi SAP experts,
    At our company we have a lot of projects. We are in the process of selecting an appropriate way to handle these in SAP. We came to the conclusion that a scheduling agreement could do what we want.
    Unfortunately we discovered a problem in our current configuration with respect to scheduling agreements and LUMF materials.
    When we add a LUMF material to a standard SD document, the LUMF material explodes in all the necessary materials.
    When we do the same in a scheduling agreement we get the error that the T 184 table does not contain a position type for ZLZM LUMF.
    Would it be possible to configure this? Could you give us a clue on how to make this possible?
    With kind regards,
    Nanne Sluis

    Hi Nanne,
    Yes it is possible for the BOM to be exploded in the sales document the following setting has to be done.
    If the item Category group in the materail master is “LUMF”, the item category of the BOM item is “TAP”.  In the definition of which we need to take the value “A” Explodes single level BOM in the field structure scope.
    Item category group is “LUMF” , bills components but not the main item.  For this the following setting has to be done.
    The item category of the main item is “TAP”, which is not relevant for pricing and item category of the components is “TAN”, which is relevant for pricing.
    Sales Doc Type    Item Category           Usage         Higher Level Item             Item
                                  Group                                    Category                Category
                OR     LUMF                -
                  TAP
                OR     LUMF                -
                    TAP              TAN
    Hope this will give u some light on BOM configuration.

  • Runtime Error # DBIF_RSQL_INVALID_RSQL for large size BOMs

    Hi All,
    I am facing problem running a custom report for Routing summary. When Executing the report gives the above runtime error.
    ShrtText: Error in RSQL module of database interface.
    Error analysis :
    An exception occurred. This exception is dealt with in more detail below
        . The exception, which is assigned to the class 'CX_SY_OPEN_SQL_DB', was neither caught nor passed along using a RAISING clause, in the procedure
         "CP_SC_MTK_LOAD_COMPLEX_BY_TSK" "(FUNCTION)"
    Since the caller of the procedure could not have expected this to occur, the running program was terminated.
        The reason for the exception is: The SQL statement generated from the SAP Open SQL Statement violates restriction imposed by the database system used in R/3.
    Possible errors:
    o The maximum size of an SQL statement has been exceeded.
         o The statement contains too many input variables.
         o The space needed for the input data exceeds the available memory.
    How to correct the error
    The SAP Open SQL statement must be divided into several smaller units.
        If the problem occurred due to the use of an excessively large in an IN itab construct, you can use the addition FOR ALL ENTRIES
        instead.  When you use this addition, the statement is split into smaller according to the restrictions of the database system used.
    You may able to find an interim solution to the problem in the SAP note system. If you have access to the note system yourself,

    This report uses SAP standard Function module "CP_SC_MTK_LOAD_COMPLEX_BY_TSK" in the select statement.
    When Analysed, We found that since the BOM size for routing is large(More than 2000 components), this dump is coming. for rest of the routings, the report works fine.
    I could not found any SAP note relevant for this.
    This is definitely related to large BOM size, if anybody of you came across such problem and how to correct it now.

    Hi,
    We did solve this problem. This problem usually comes when there is very large records in internal table (More than 2000 Approx).
    We need to split that select statement and make multiple statements so that the memory overflow doesn't happen. refer SAP note: 13607.
    We modified the coding as follows by splitting the SELECT statementu2026
    SELECT DISTINCT MANDT PLNTY PLNNR PLNAL MATNR WERKS VBELN POSNR
            INTO CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF TABLE E_MTK_IDENT
            FROM MAPL FOR ALL ENTRIES IN I_TSK_IDENT
            WHERE PLNTY =  I_TSK_IDENT-PLNTY    AND
                  PLNNR =  I_TSK_IDENT-PLNNR    AND
                  PLNAL =  I_TSK_IDENT-PLNAL    AND
                  MATNR IN I_CPSC_MTK_SEL-MATNR AND
                  WERKS IN I_CPSC_MTK_SEL-WERKS AND
                  VBELN IN I_CPSC_MTK_SEL-VBELN AND
                  POSNR IN I_CPSC_MTK_SEL-POSNR AND
                 (FREE_WHERE-WHERE_TAB).
      SELECT MANDT PLNTY PLNNR PLNAL MATNR WERKS VBELN POSNR
             INTO CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF TABLE E_MTK_IDENT
             FROM MAPL FOR ALL ENTRIES IN I_TSK_IDENT
             WHERE PLNTY =  I_TSK_IDENT-PLNTY    AND
                   PLNNR =  I_TSK_IDENT-PLNNR    AND
                   PLNAL =  I_TSK_IDENT-PLNAL    AND
                  (FREE_WHERE-WHERE_TAB).
      Delete E_MTK_IDENT where matnr NOT in I_CPSC_MTK_SEL-MATNR.
      Delete E_MTK_IDENT where werks NOT in I_CPSC_MTK_SEL-WERKS.
      Delete E_MTK_IDENT where VBELN NOT in I_CPSC_MTK_SEL-VBELN.
      Delete E_MTK_IDENT where POSNR NOT in I_CPSC_MTK_SEL-POSNR.
    Hope this helps you.
