Book Publication and Comments

Hello, Forum u2013
I am trying to setup the Book feature for the first time in BPC 5.1 SP3.  I have a bunch of heavily customized EvDRE input templates (about 90 or so) that I would like to be able to publish to a pdf file for our 280 business units that prepare these templates (so that they can have a copy for their records).
I created the Book Template and defined all the templates and dimensions for each file, however when I go through the Book Wizard and publish the templates to a pdf file, the data is coming through, but the comments (evcoms) are not.
When I execute the Book Wizard, I can see (in the background) the system opening the specified template and refreshing it.  When the refresh is complete, I can see both data and comments, however there is a split second that just before the system prints the template to a pdf file, the comments disappear.
As a result, when you open the pdf file, you only get the data (no comments).
Has anyone encountered this issue before?  If so, were you able to get the system to print both data and comments?
Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated!
Best Regards,
Carlo Tom

Hello u2013
I am using EvCOMu2019s on my input schedules.
I converted one of my templates to EvCGT and I do see comments coming back from the system now, however itu2019s not putting the comment back into the input cell on the schedule.
Our input schedules are setup where the input section is in one part of the spreadsheet (Columns A u2013 K) and the EvCOMu2019s are off to the side hidden from our users (Columns O u2013 S), which is how we designed it.
I believe this was one of the limitations of EvCGT u2013 it will return the comment, however it wonu2019t place that comment back in its original cell where it was keyed in, which is what I need for the Book feature.
Any other thoughts/suggestions?
Thanks,
Carlo

I installed OS X Mavericks and now my Epson Scanner Perfection Series V330 Photo refuses to open. Is there a new driver available? I am scanning my work for a book publication and I need my scanner urgently. I tried Image capture but scanner is not detected.

Looks like all Epson scanners will fail under Mvrx. And who knows when an updated driver will be available. It's not as if they have had a while to do it already.
After I noticed mine wouldn't work, I deleted my Workforce 610 and re-added it by pressing the + and instead of going for the IP versions that may pop up, that they say to do under normal conditions, select the Bonjour version. When you select the new printer/scanner in the Printers & Scanners Control Panel, then open the control window and then look in the dock and see if your printer is there. Right click on it and go to "Keep in Dock" for easy Access. In the printer panel there should be a little picture of a scanner on the right side. Click on it or type Commmand-3 and the built-in scanner software/utility will come up. After playing with it I think it's better than and there are some cool features that are not in the stock Epson software.
    Hope this helps.

  • EvComment and Book Publication Wizard

Is it possible to include comments (evCom) in the reports generated by the Book Publication Wizard?   I am in version 4.2 SP2.  Is the answer different for version 5.1?
    Best regards,
    Greg

    Greg,
Yes this should work in version 4.2sp2 (not with previous versions) as well as with version 5.1
The only thing with version 4.2sp2 is that you need to install the evcomment client software on the machines where you want to use the comments. From V5 the comment functionality is fully integrated within BPC.
Below some documentation from evcomment in V4 that tells me exactly what you ask for:
OutlookSoft u2013 New method available with WebExcel v4.2 SP2 (aka build 381).  Using this method, OutlookSoft tells EVComment when it needs to refresh.  This will allow for comments to be published using book publishing.  The Client must have the appropriate supporting WebExcel code (v4.2 SP2 or later) or comments will not automatically be refreshed when the workbook opens, or current view changes.

  • Is there any substitute for book publication?

We are currently running BPC Microsoft version and considering migrating to the Netweaver platform.  I understand the Book Publication Wizard is not available in Netweaver.  We use this feature to generate lengthy reports and losing it would make reporting a very difficult process.  Does anyone know of a workaround or substitute for Book Publication?

    Hi Barb,
You are correct it won't generate PDF's.
Are you considering going to BPC 7.5 NW? If so there are some workarounds that could be leveraged but they are not ideal.
For example if you have Crystal Reports as well, you can use the integration to pull your BPC data into a formatted Crystal Report and use the PDF scheduling to generate your "books" in that way.
Otherwise as Jeff mentioned you would have to leverage the Distributor and Collector and print to pdf via some type of task scheduler job but this  would require you have either Adobe Professional or some PDF generator like PDF XChange.
    Cheers, Scott

You may have installed the "DownLite" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.

You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the DownLite developer has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight is inexcusable and has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.

  • Printing Selected Tabs using Book Publication

    Hello,
I currently have a book publication that references a workbook that contains 3 tabs (sheet 1, sheet 2, and sheet 3).
I only want to print sheet 2 on quarter end months (which are Apr, Jul, Oct, and Jan for us), on other months I would like to exclude these from the pdf.
I am hoping to avoid manually deleting the page after the pdf is created. I am also hoping to avoid maintaining to versions of the report and book publication.
I have tried using VBA code to hide the tab, this works well when printing directly from excel. However, it appears that the VBA code is not run during the book publication process.
Has anyone else run into an issue similar to this?
    Thanks,
    Luke

Luke - One way to do this is to make a copy of the report you're using  (Save As...) and in the copy, hide all the sheets you don't want to display (hide them manually doing..Format..Sheets...Hide - not with macros )  Set up the BookPub file to reference the copy with the sheets hidden.  That's the only way I have been able to print only specific sheets.
I'd also love to hear from anyone who has a better way to do this.

  • Titles and Comments

Can Titles and Comments go with the photo from iPhoto when the photo is moved to another Library, put on a CD or DVD, emailed or used in Pages?

    Johin:
To add to Smtr's answer, all metadata added to a photo in iPhoto stays in iPhoto (sort of like Las Vegas). Using iPLM you can transfer that data between libraries. But for any use outside of iPhoto the metadata won't be available.
There's one way to write comments and keywords to the original files on a one time (or 30 day) basis. That's by using Cocktail (not called Expressions Media) to catalog and then write that data back to the files. Check out Tutorial #1 on how to do it.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Print & Preview of iBook does not show titles and comments.

    iphoto used is 6.0.6 (322) I Don't know if this is a 10.4.11 or 10.4.4 problem.
problem: iBook prints contain pictures but not title or comments using Epson C60 or HP 1530 printers. Titles and comments are not visible in "preview" but picture is ok. Mac used is an intel Core Duo with system 10.4.4.
However, prints are ok, i.e., have title, comment, picture using the same HP 1530 or an Epson Stylus Photo 1250 on a Pwr PC G4 with system 10.4.11.
The Intel is the preferred unit.
    Thanks, CB

  • EVSND within Book Publication reports?

We are still on OutlookSoft version 4.2 SP2, although we will be upgrading to v7M this summer.
Has anyone had any success using EVSND functions to return values through Book Publication Wizard?  For example, if I wanted a Book Publication book to reference an input template, should I be able to get this to work in theory?  I've tried and have been unsuccessful.  It appears that the Book Publication Wizard opens the report and does a ReCalc but not a Refresh, which is what the EVSND formulas need to populate the spreadsheet with values.
As a workaround, I've attempted to alter the workbook options to "Expand On Workbook Open", but for some reason this does not work when the Book Pub wizard is running.  I've also tried executing a refresh on the Workbook_Open event, but this doesn't work either when Book Pub is running.  Does Book Pub suppress custom macros and workbook options?  How do I work around this?
    Thanks!

Problem solved since we upgraded to v7.

  • Epublish - Book Publication Wizard / Manage Book

    Dear All,
I have created a report for the publication through Manage Book and that report is also validated.  Now I am printing the same with epublish -> Book Publication Wizard. When I am printing the same at that time, That report is getting printed in 3 pages and 3 times. In that 3 pages only two page contain the information and remaining 3rd page is blank.
What setting I need to do for geeting the whole report in the same page and how can I avoid the same report printing for 3 times ?
    Please do the needful...
    Regards,
    SANJAY

You should also use the SUPRESSKEY parameter to select which intersection point should be checked if there is data. In this way, if there is no data for the intersection, for example on DATASRC=INPUT (or whatever dimension members you wish to choose), then the report will not be printed.
Also as pointed out by the others, it is of utmost importance to set the printsettings of the report correctly, as these will automatically used while printing. For example expansions of a report can cause a lot of useless cells entering the printrage which causes a lot of useless paper/pdf pages. As mentioned before, the best way to test this is by using the print to pdf option, as this will only waste diskspace.
To set the printrange correctly in a report whith expansions, make sure the edges of the printrange contain the colkeyrange and the rowkeyrange. If you do this, the printrange will adjust automatically based on the expansion.

  • Schedule book publication in ASCII files

    Hi all,
Is there any way to schedule the extraction of reports to ascii files, using the book publication tool, or any other?
I´m trying to extract some reports using this tool. There is no problem using the "publish now" option, and i´m able to save the .txt files in the right route, but i´ll like to program this action, to be executed automatically in a certain date, every month. Is there any possibility?
    Thanks for all,
    Alfonso

    Hi,
There is an existing functionality inside the Book Publication wizard to schedule a publication, but in fact, you can only generate PDF or HTM files. ASCII generation seems only possible using the "Publish Now" button, and not the "Schedule" button.
By the way, what is the scenario that forces you to generate ASCII files? Would it be possible for you to maybe use the Scheduling area of the Book publication, meaning that you will only have PDF or HTM files generated?
    Hope this helps.
    Kind Regards,
    Patrick

  • Book publication wizard

    Hi,
I have a problem when publishing a book selecting PDF file and not ticking the PDF unique file box. As a matter of fact, I do not know where the PDF files generated by the book publication go.
Has anybody already faced this problem?
    Thank you

    Yue,
You have two options for the location of the PDF.
By default, the files are stored on the application server(or file share if multiple application servers).  The path is <BPCDATA>\Webfolders\<APPSETNAME>\<APPLICATION>\APPPUBLICATIONS.
<VAR> refers to a setting specific to your installation on the application server.
<BPCDATA> is the root directory for BPC Data.  This value can be identified in the SQL by querying the table  AppServer.dbo.tblServerInfo.  Look for the row with Field = DataPath.
<APPSETNAME> is the name of your AppSet.
<APPLICATION> is the name of your Application, ie FINANCE.
Option two is to select the check box 'Make Single PDF File'.  If selected, a secondary window provides the option to define the Filename and location.  If you select the 'Local' radio button, it will transfer the pdf to your PC and the directory you specified.  If not, the file again will be stored on the application server location specified above.
    Hope that helps,
    -Danny

  • Book Publication Macro Error

I have several reports that have Macrou2019s that perform formatting using the After_Expand function.   The reports work fine except when publishing the reports with the Book Publication Wizard.  It seems the After_Expand function does not run until after the book has been built.  I am using BPC 7.0.113
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Chas.

    Sorin,
Thanks for the follow up here is some more detail
Can you precise what is not working and when?
When a Report has a macro in it using after expand it runs fine,  except when using a book publication, in which case the macro does not run.
Do you have problem during the book publications?
There are no error messages of any kind.  The macro just does not run whwn using book publication
The macro is not working into published excel? The macro runs fine, except when generating the report with book publication.
    Thanks

  • Keywords, Titles, and Comments don't travel - Sharing Pics with my PC

What gives with iPhoto. Love it. Problem though. All the work I've put into adding key words, titles, and comments are only good in iPhoto.
Why is this? Wouldn't those things be considered metadata and be stored in the file and then travel with that file?
So... here's the kicker. If iPhoto doesn't do this - I probably need to switch programs. My house and family and work are all PC environments. We all swap photos pretty regularly.
I look like I suck if my photos are all titled DSC-09874. This especially ***** if I know I've spent hours upon hours applying tagging pics with keywords and comments - only to find out I'm the only person to ever see them.
I need some direction here from some iphoto gurus. What should I do?

There is a program that will do it but it's a bit expensive for just that feature, iView MediaPro. However, you can use it is its 21 day demo mode do write the keywords and comments of the photos you have today back to the original files (not the modified but the original). Tutorial #1 describes how to do that.
I suggest you post that as a feature request at http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html. The more requests for that the better.
    Do you Twango?
