Bought a new computer, and don't want to loose data...

Ok, I'm sure a lot of people claim this, but I'm really just trying to help a friend.
They bought a new Windows7 PC and we transferred over all their info from their old WinXP box. Apparently not all of the songs transferred, and none of the playlists transfer. They do have all their stuff on an iPod touch, but when we hook that up it wants to transfer from PC to iPod, is there a way to back up the ipod and get the apps/calendar/songs/etc off the iPod?
They do have a backup of the iTunes folder from the old PC and the folder under c:\document and settings\user\application data\iTunes\.

The music sync is one way - computer to ipod. The exception is itunes purchases. Without syncing: File>Transfer Purchases
You can type "move itunes library" or similar into the google search bar for instructions on moving the entire itunes library ( playlists and all) from the old computer to the new one.
You should also move contacts/calendars from the old computer to the new one.

• I have bought a new computer and don't want to reinstall all my apps. What do I do?

I still have my old computer available so is it possible to transfer a backup over from that to my new laptop to save having to setup all my apps again?

Yes, if what you want to do is transfer the contents of your old computer to the new one that is the right way to go about it.
Whatever Windows uses for migrating one's account from an old computer to a new one, use it. Leave your iPhone out of the equation for now. Once your new computer is configured and its iTunes library is indistinguishable from the old computer's, sync your iPhone to it. iTunes will inform you that it was synced with another computer and give you the choice to "erase and sync" it to the new computer. That's the choice you want.
After it is synced, return to your old computer and "deauthorize" it from the iTunes Store menu.

• I bought a new computer, and iTunes doesn't have my music or anything on there. I want to get everything on my iPhone to my new computer/itunes. But no matter what i do, it won't let me. My desktop has everything, and I want all that on my laptop..

I bought a new computer, and downloaded iTunes, therefore the new itunes doesn't have my music or anything on there. I want to get everything on my iPhone to my new computer/itunes. But no matter what I do, it won't let me. My desktop has everything that my phone has on it, I just want it all moved to my laptop. Does that make sense? I could really use some help. I don't live with this desktop anymore so I need to be able to use my laptops itunes. Please help me. Thanks in advance!

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then seeRecover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

• HT1296 I bought a new computer and I want to sync my iPod Touch with the new computer without losing data.

I bought a new computer and want to use the new computer to sync data with my iPod touch. I understand that you can only sync a device with one computer at a time. This if fine because I don't care to sync my iPod with the old computer anymore. How do I set up my new computer to be the computer that syncs with my iPod touch from now on, without losing any data?

You don't.
When you sync to a different computer it erases the content from the ipod and replaces it with the data from the new computer.
Just copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one, then sync

• I recently bought a new computer and downloaded itunes but when i try to sync it, someone else's apple i.d. shows up and i don't know the password. I try to authorize my computer but it still won't let me

I recently bought a new computer and downloaded itunes onto it. When i sync my ipod it prompts me to authorize my computer
with the purchases that i've made, but when i try to do so, my apple i.d. is not what shows up and so my ipod won't sync any of my songs or apps. I have no idea who's username i'm seeing and i've never seen it before. That's the only thing that is stopping my ipod to sync, a password that isn't mine!! I am beyond frustrated and don't know what else to do, if someone can please help me i would be so appreciative you have no idea. Thank you so much

Close your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

Hello ashlyn888,
Based on your post it sounds like you would like to sync your iBooks content with your computer. I have located an article that may help you in this situation. While you can sync this data with your computer you can also use the sharing button to send PDFs using various sources:

• I recently bought a new computer, and downloaded new music.. I want to sync my new music into my ipod but it wont le me.. if i sync it will erase all my music and if i press okay it says it cant because my ipod is connected to another itunes..

i recently bought a new computer and installed itunes and downloaded music already... I want to sync my new music into my ipod but it wont let me it says my ipod is linked to another itunes library, so If i want to go ahead with the process it says it will erase all my movies, photos, apps ect.. I press okay then it says about another itunes library If i want to sync my ipod i have to "erase and sync" if i go ahead with this will it erase all my photos?? All im worried about are my pictures.... if i do this will it erase my pictures... so far i havent been able to put the recently added music to my ipod... i tried it my husbands iphone and synced it since he has no music or videos... and it had the autofill option so i did this... and it worked.. why will it not work on my ipod..

You can only sync everything with your one syncing computer/iTunes library. Yu can:
- Make this your syncing computer by:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
- Use the manual method to copy music and videos from any computer/iTunes library to the iPod. See the manual method included here:

• I bought a new computer and want to transfer pics from a regular folder to the new computer. What's the best way to do that?

I bought a new computer and want to transfer pics from a regular folder to the new computer. These aren't in the cloud so they didn't transfer automatically. What's the best way to do that? Can I sync my old computer to my new computer through I tunes and transfer them that way?

iTunes will only transfer them to your iPad, and once transferred to your iPad they cannot be imported to your other computer (only camera roll photos can). You will either have to use a usb flash drive or external drive to transfer them, or use an app like PhotoSync, which will transfer photos between your devices and computers over your wifi.

I bought a new computer and downloaded my lightroom 4 to it. When I installed the program it asked for my serial number and I imputed it. Then it asked for my previous serial number from my original lightroom 3 purchase. Since I upgraded to lightroom 4 I don't have the serial number for the version 3. How do I get the serial number from my 3 version so I can activate my version 4 program

If you have Lightroom 3 still installed, you can get it from there.
If you don't and you have your box/disk, it should be on there.
IF you don't have either of those, and you registered your software, you can log into your Adobe account and retrieve it there.

a Friend of mine bought a new computer and they have a WRT54G wireless router. The computer is connected to the router with a network cable and the only thing they use the wireless portion for id the Wii they have in the other room. Do I need to reinstall the linksys setup disk on the new computer even though the computer is hardwired to the router? With the new comp I can still get to the 192.168.1.1 router page. Will the Wii continue to work wirelessly without installing the setup disks on the new comp..
Thanks all for your help.
City

The setup program on the CD does only configure the router. The router is like a computer but without keyboard or display. Therefore you have to configure it from a PC with an ethernet connection. Once the router is configured you don't have to run the CD anymore. Just plug in the new computer and it should work. The default settings in Windows should work fine with the router.

• HT203167 Hello I've recently just bought a new iPhone and i am wanting to transfer all my music that i habe bought from my old one onto the new one. I've gone onto iTunes and tried to download them all again but it wont let me?

I've recently just bought a new iPhone and i am wanting to transfer all my music that i habe bought from my old one onto the new one. I've gone onto iTunes and tried to download them all again but it wont let me?

What happens when you try to redownload them ? What you can re-download (the types of content that you can redownload varies by country) will show under the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes, and the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app on your iPhone (and similarly for apps in the App Store app). If you still have your old phone then you should be able to copy your iTunes downloads from it over to your computer's iTunes via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases
