BPC 7.0NW Reporting
Hi,
Current we are using BI7 cube with WAD for reporting, after BPC7.0NW GA (Feb 09) we are planning to use BPC front-end (excel reporting) with BI cubes. Do see any problem? or
We are loading actual data & master data into BI, do we need to related this data again into BPC namespace to use BPC excel front-end reporting? Here there is no plan data involved, all data are actual and actual reporting only.

Using BPC 7.0 NW, you must use the BPC admin interface to create new BPC-controlled BI cubes, in a \CPMB\ namespace dedicated to BPC. Only these cubes are available for reporting from the BPC Excel user interface. Other existing BI cubes can't be accessed directly from BPC.
There are tools to move data & master data back and forth between the BPC-controlled cubes & existing BI cubes, but there are a number of complexities & design considerations.

BPC 7.0NW installation error
Hi,
In BPC server diagnosis, we are getting an error 'Current User Name does not have permission for Administrators group. - Incorrect' when we try to install BPC 7.0NW. We get this error when we try to install BPC. The user has full admin rights. Still we are getting this error. We uninstalled and tried couple of times. But we are not able to move ahead. Please suggest.

Please make sure that the account that is used for the installation is a member of Local Admins in Windows on the .Net server. It should be explicitely listed in that group (as opposed to a nested group membership)

How to hide member Account dimension from BPC Administrator for Reporting
Hi experts, i need to hide some members of the Account dimension for reporting, because those members dont use it anymore, but i dont want delete them.
The question is: Does it exist any propierties for this dimension type that allows hiding members in reporting without set members in the BPC for Excel?
I can create a report which contain the members i want to show, but if any change occurs (client desire) the report is outdated.

There is no function like that.
You can choose below two options.
1. Create a property like 'NOUSE' and set a value 'Y' for unused member
When you create EVDRE report, set a filter against that property that has value 'N'
then those members will not be shown at the report.
2. Create 'NOUSE' parent member and put members under this parent member.
Maybe option 1 is more easier to do that.

BPC 7.5NW Report Issues When Requesting Year To Date Data
Dynamic reports built with 2 row expansions (Cost Ctr, Account) up to 3 columns (not expansions, set to different categories with excel formulas for variance calculations...Act vs. Bud for example) result in error messages (error retrieving data and another related error messge) when requesting YTD data vs. Periodic data. The report runs fast and properly with Periodic measure. When running with the YTD measure, attempts to reduce the report data volume by removing comparative categories and removing formatting (after ranges) still results in YTD data retrieve errors.
Has anyone else had similar issues with BPC 7.5NW, SP9, and YTD data not pulling into reports? What are the common causes for issues with YTD data retrieval? Given the design by SAP of the BPC NW product and promotion of using BPC for both Periodic and YTD data, should I expect this report to work properly, meaning that I can get output with YTD data without long runtimes or errors that result in terminating the report? BPC 10.0 reporting based on a dimension property
Hi all,
I have a cost_center dimension and bus_area is the property of cost_center.I want to create report based on bus_area.As we do in BW by navigational attirubute, is that possible?
The solutions like: "Put cost_center to rows and use epmmemberproperty and hide cost_center" are not acceptable.Likewise membergrouping as sums. What I want is If I have 5 bus_area's in the member sheet of cost_center then the report must have at most 5 rows.

Thank you for your answer but there are 1000 cost centers and 5 business areas.That's why the user want to see aggreagted data with respect to business areas.
I think I should create a BEx report from BPC cube but then some features like "offset" not working on a BEx report from a CPMB cube.Maybe another solution would be mapping BPC cube to a BW cube and use BEx from normal BW cube(duplicating data).
Not good solutions but seems no way(disappointed ). -

Please advice on the below lanscape of BPC7.0NW for BPC Consolidation:
1) Client has installed BI(Global) instance which has got all Business content intalled for regular extractions from ECC for FI, SD, MM, PP reportig.
2) And they have installed BPC over another instance BI(Local) which does not have any Business Content objects like in BI(Global).
Question: Is there a concept of Local and Global installations of BI for the purpose of BPC? If so why?Is there an SAP documentation of SAP best practices on this?
If so how to load master data and transaction data to BPC from Global BI to BPC? Is it that I have use open hub for master data and transaction data or any other way?
What are the advantages and disadvantages of the layout as for as BPC is data loads(masterdata & transaction data) is concerned?
Which is best landscape for the client??

What I would do with the scenario that you described below is the following. I would have my GLOBAL instance setup as a Source System within my LOCAL instance. Once you have done this you can setup a "one hop" loading process from your BPC system. BPC can do the following when it comes to loading master and transactional data.
Dimensions can be loaded from BW InfoObjects and their corresponding master data via standard (BPC 7.5 NW)
Dimensions can be loaded from BW InfoObjects and their corresponding master data via How-To Guide (BPC 7.0 NW)
BPC Applications can be loaded from BW InfoProviders
This means that you will need to (at least temporarily) persist what you pull in from GLOBAL somewhere in your LOCAL BW instance prior to pulling it into your BPC NW system.
For Master Data I would suggest replicating the key infoObjects from GLOBAL to LOCAL and integrating this into a single data manager package that you can use to pull master data from GLOBAL BW into the LOCAL BW and finally into your BPC NW Dimension Library within your LOCAL instance.
For Transactional Data I would suggest using a write optimized DSO in your LOCAL instance that you load into from your GLOBAL instance and then subsequently you pull the DSO data into your BPC Application via the Load from InfoProvider Data Manager Package. You could as I suggest above integrate this all into a single data manager package by copying your process chain and making some modifications.

Activity Based Budgeting in BPC 7.0NW
Hi friends,
Currently I am on the blueprint phase of bpc7.0nw implementation.
I was just wondering id someone can tell me that can we do activity based budgeting in BPC?
and if yes than please tell me how.

As BPC is a account based model. We can assign a budget to particular account (using the account dimension).
But we generally dont maintain activity master data in BPC (As this is my previous project experience).
Even if we maintain activities list in BPC, it will keep changing frequently.
How can we maintain activity master data in BPC?
any suggestion from experts...

Hierarchy Level Limit in BPC 5.1 Reports
Hello,
We are currently running BPC 5.1 SP7 and have a Account Hierarchy that has 15 levels. In the standard trend report, the control panel contains a drop-down list for rows and columns but is limited to 9 levels.
So we found the following formula in the row/column expansion and changed cell F21 which references the drop-down list of levels to "15".
=IF($F$26="ON",EVEXP($C$17,$F$19,C47:C58,D47:P58,TRUE,$C$2,$F$21,F22,$E$2),"OFF")
1. Is it ok to retrieve data at 15 levels down?
2. Does it slow down reporting? Is there any negative impact of doing this?
3. Is there a limit on the number of levels that a hierarchy can have?
We understand that we need to re-save all of these templates again in the wizard folder and increase the template version to trigger a download of the update.

So, if you have many levels, this plus the number of properties and their size will determine the amount of space taken up in the SQL table, which if exceeded, will drop the information.
So, the answer is; No there isn't a limit, and it should not slow your performance, but "YES" the is a limit depending on the size of the dimension components. There may still be a dimension calculator for size in the HELP files in the Admin console in version 5.1.

BPC 7.0 Reports not opening
We have experienced reports not opening. The problem appears to be when the combination of folder name and file name length is long. Has anyone else experienced this and know what the max character length limitation is?
Chicago, eh? Is this a union shop?
Do the server diagnostics look the same before and after 9 am? What time in the evening does it stop working?
If not the server, maybe there's a network traffic limitation that's blocking access.
If you have Excel and the client installed on the server itself, try logging in from the server and see if that works. (If not, try just the BPC web browser functionality.) If you can log in from the server, but not from other client machines, there's something going on with your network. -
BPC 10NW: Dynamic Reporting

How can list the Account Members by filtering on the property? Is there any EPM function to list the dimension members on some filter?
I have following reporting requirement -
There are two set of accounts say "X" & "Y". This been identified as a separate property "Dimlist"
I would like to give two drop downs for selection purpose in the report as -
Account Receivable -> Drop down showing accounts where dimlist = "X"
Account Payable -> Drop down showing accounts where dimlist = "Y"
Upon selection, would like to show these two set of accounts in same line. showing two values for respective accounts
Please suggest.

However, is there any another way to acheive it using excel functionality?
We have done following steps -
Created simple query on Account in Row axis, filtering it on the property = X & Y with sort with Ascending
used formula "EPMMEMBERPROPERTY to list the property of each account in separate column
Created 2 VLOOKUPs to segregate X & Y accounts separately
Used these set of accounts in the excel function 'Data Validation' to get drop down box
However, there are few issues in this solution -
The formula EPMMEMBERPROPERTY doesn't expand as per EPM Report. Hence, if there is any additions in accounts with X & Y properties, this dummy report needs to be refreshed manually.
The VLOOKUP needs separate ranges to get unique accounts, which cannot be done dynamically
If in 'data validation' we consider more cell range, then it doesn't ignore blanks even though "ignore blank" option is selected. (Note: we observe this is a EPM AddIn issue, as the same works as expected in normal excel)
Any suggestions?
It would have been good if EPM has function like EPMListMembers

SAP BPC 7.0NW (project in Ramp-Up)

We are doing 2 Ramp-Ups currently on the BPC for Netweaver version, and I have a question relating to script logic.
Knowing the Microsoft version very well, we are quite experienced with using logic for budgeting or forecasting purposes. I have read that ABAP/BADI's are the alternative for SQL Logic or could be. In fact, I am looking for the alternative statements of the SQL logic, but then Netweaver-compatible.
- Is there information available on how to write BPC-logic based on ABAP/BADI's?
- Will all of the SQL logic available in the Microsoft version become fully available in the NW version (now very limited availability)?

The alternative to SQL based script logic in SAP BPC NetWeaver would be MDX based functions. There are 2 methods that you can utilize.
1. MDX based functions
2. ABAP based functions/ BADI's
SQL Logic in NetWeaver environment doesn't work. You may try utlizing microsoft based MDX in NetWeaver environment. Well, it is up to you if you are able to utilize BADI's too prefereable method in terms of NewWeaver environment. You may have to get the information from SAP regarding what standard functions are available in writing script logic using ABAP/BADI's.

Best BW datasource for consolidation in BPC 7.0NW

I am working on Legal Consolidation.
Which is the best datasource to be extracted from ECC New GL?
0FI_GL_20 is better or any other data source is better.
The data required is in YTD format.
The data is required only from leading ledger.
Please share your experiences.

GMR.The best data source will be the NEW GL line items / totals data. It does not matter if the ledger is leading or not, as long as you have all the data (be it line item or totals).

Handling Recurring Journal Entries in BPC 7.0NW
Hi all,
I'm looking for suggestions on handling the posting of Recurring Journal entries in a Legal Consolidation. I'm new to BPC, and am afraid I don't know the "best" way to do this. Currently, we are assuming that we would "copy" the previous months' entries into the new month, but when I do this, the Description of the entry says "Copy xxxx", which of course is not acceptable! The users don't want to have to open and maintain the description on 30 entries every month when the values posted are the same.
Perhaps there is another way to handle these entries?

ValerieThe documentation around re-opening journals isn't really clear; I wasn't sure of the purpose of re-open.
Can you re-open a journal multiple times? In other words, the journal is created in January, and you re-open it in Feb, Mar, Apr, etc. for many months? Or do you flag each new journal as re-open, and re-open the one from the period before in the new month, i.e. the Jan journal re-opened in Feb; the Feb journal re-opened in Mar.
Can you change the values in the journal after you re-open and before you save?
And lastly, does the new journal in any way affect the original journal?
I know there is a translation table associated with re-opening journals, but as far as I can see I can leave this table with a single entry indicating "*" for all dimensions, which means the Entity, Account and Intercompany dimensions will stay the same upon re-opening. Is this your experience?
