BPEL and retry mechanism

What does BPEL PM offer with regard to QoS provisions w.r.t partner invocations eg if my attempt to invoke a partner WS fails, can I specify a number of retries?

Each BPEL PM node includes a recovery agent. The recovery agent wakes up periodically and queries the dehydration store for work that should have been scheduled to be performed and has not be performed yet. For reducing lock contention, we recommend to run the scheduled recovery on one node of the cluster only and manually reprogram another node to become the recoverer if the existing recoverer goes down. -Edwin

Retry Mechanism for BPM in PI 7.1

Hi Experts,
Is it possible to have a retry mechanism in implementing BPM on a solution? Here's my scenario:
With BPM initial scenario:
Sending system sends a message to PI and will be routed to another system (let's say a Master Data System) via BPM to get a specific data that will be included on the initial data that was sent to from a sending system. The BPM then handles the mapping of that specific data and then sent to a Receiving System.
Additional Scenario (if it is possible):
What if the Master Data System is down?!
- an additional BPM will be added to the initial BPM and the purpose is solely for retry mechanism. The BPM will then be in retry mechanism mode let say 5 attempts or 5 hours..and if it successful then the initial scenario will push..but if the system is still down, and retry mechanism reached its limit then it will send will throw an error or an alert.
If this is possible, how can this be handled?

Your question is if BPM <--> SYS2 communication fails in first attempt
So the above step will be SYNC.....include a BLOCK with an Exception Branch in your BPM....if the SYNC steps fails then the Exception Branch will be triggered....now in the exception branch include a WAIT step (set the time accordingly...avoid setting it for a big time interval),
After the WAIT step include a SYNC-Send step which will again send the same message (BPM <--> SYS2) .....check if you get the response or still in error....if in error then implement a proper error handling.
Just ensure that the wait step does not make the BPM wait for too long

Retry mechanism in Fault handling framework SOA 11g

i have used Fault management framework in my project. I have added fault-policies and fault-bindings file. in fault-policies file i am using retry mechanism for any remote or binding fault. but i am not able to see the retry working in flow trace. however human intervention and terminate actions are working fine.
can any one assist me why retry mechanism is not working.

SOA11g retry mechanism

i am using SOA11g & weblogic server10.3.2. I have built synch bpel process which keeps retrying for 3 times if there is quite delay in response. I have not mentioned any retry mechanins in my BPEL. Could you please suggest me is there any setting on server which i need to change to avoind this retry??

BPEL and Oracle 8

Are other people out there using BPEL with Oracle 8?
BPEL seems to only barely support Oracle 8 (Oracle8i Enterprise Edition Release 8.1.7.2.0) e.g.
with oracle 8, BPEL requires a database procedure to be owned by schema owner before it can be used in BPEL ... I don't think this is the case with BPEL and oracle 9
with orace 8, the retry ability as per bpel.xml can have some retry schedule extra retry due to socket read error .. (works eventually)
with oracle 8, you have to manually alter toplink setting to pick up date and time rather than just date ... this is not the case with BPEL and oracle 9
i.e. you can make BPEL work with Oracle 8 but it takes some doing!!

Can you use WebLogic 8.1 SP4 ? BPEL has been certified with that version. We have been able to reproduce the issue and currently investigating the cause of it.

One way BPEL Process Retrying after 60 seconds

We have a one way BPEL Process that is getting errored after 60 seconds and retrying for 2 times. We check the JTA Timeout and it is set to 1800 sec.
Any transaction that gets completed in 60 seconds is not rolling
We also verified the EJB Timeout properties and it is set to 600 sec. Your help is highly appreciated, since we are having this issue in production.

have you already checked this thread : oracle.fabric.common.FabricInvocationException while invoking external service from bpel 11g
You should check following parameters:
1. JTA Transaction timeout. (which you have already done)
2. BPEL EJB Timeout settings (which you have already done)
3. SyncMaxWaitTime setting. ( I can recoomend you this link to understand this parameter SyncMaxWaitTime in Oracle BPEL.. | Vikrant Bhardwaj's SOA Blog)
4. DB Tuning. (Specially the DISTRIBUTED_LOCK_TIMEOUT)

i don't have any schema, what i want i need to create a adf page that will contain 3 tent field, 2 for input and 1 for output. when i will enter 2 input field and click on ok button, this will invoke BPEL, BPEL will take these 2 inputs and do the concat on this and send back to adf with result.

Three simple steps you need to do :
1) Generate proxy for your bpel process in Jdeveloper.
2)Create simple ADF page with 2 input for taking value and a input for showing the result and one command button.
3) In backing bean on command button action, get value from two inputs, pass the in the proxy service and update the the the third input with the result of service.

How To : Call External Webservice from BPEL and pass SOAP Message to the WS

Hello All-
Greetings to all BPEL gurus. I am currently facing difficulties in calling an External Webservice from my BPEL Process and passing SOAP Message to it. The details are below:
1. The BPEL process, using database polling feature of DB Adapter, will get the records from the database.
2. Transform the message
3. Call the External Webservice and pass the transformed message as the input to it. However the Webservice expects the BPEL process to send SOAP headers in the input message.
I am struggling on how to put the transformed message within a SOAP envelope in the BPEL process.
If anyone had similar requirements and have successfully been able to send SOAP messages from BPEL process to an external webservice, kindly let me know.
Also if there is some kind of documentation or any link in the forum that I can refer, please let me know that as well.
I am new to Webservice integration using BPEL and would really appreciate your help.

I am trying to send a SOAP message from my BPEL process to a web service. I have a complete SOAP message in a complex variable defined in the wsdl for the partnerlink (web service). My problem is that when I invoke the partnerlink it fails even though the content shown in the BPEL console looks valid.
I have set up obtunnel to see what I am actually sending out from BPEL. You mention that BPEL creates the SOAP envelope automatically.
I think that my problem is a result of this automatic SOAP envelope that BPEL is creating. Do you know if there is a way to turn it off?

Trying to add new elemwent to BPEL, and it is now having binding error

I have a BPEL service that calls a PL SQL procedure. I have added a new element to the BPEL called quote_cart_line.
All I had to the BPEL to accomplish this was edit 3 files -

.....I have done this to two other BPELs and they work fine. (1st BPEL calls the second BPEL passing this new element, which then passes it to this BPEL I am having trouble with, which then should be binding it to a PL SQL type)
So this BPEL calls a PL SQL procedure, binding the elements from the BPEL to a PL SQL type (ni_model_import_line). So I edited the PL SQL type to accept this new parameter:

</fault>This doesnt happen if I remove the references to this new element and try again, so it obviously is a problem with the element, but I have no idea what it is. It works fine when going from BPEL to BPEL, but as soon as the process tries to call the PL SQL procedure this happens. It is even more frustrating because I have done this exactly before adding another element, and it worked fine...
Any ideas or tips please?

This makes no sense to me. I have edited these BPELs in this manner twice before and never had problems.
I have 3 bpels. I added the new element to each of them.
BPEL1 - calls some PL SQL and also passess the elements to the next BPEL (BPEL2)
BPEL2 - passes the elements to BPEL 3
BPEL3 - Calls PL SQL in exactly the same way as BPEL1
however, where BPEL 1 is functioning fine, BPEL3 is resulting in the error above. So frustrating, because BPEL3 works exactly like BPEL1, there is no reason it shouldn't be working. The elements are the same order as the PL SQL type and procedure it is mapping to, so that isn't the problem

In BPEL we should avoid the use of duplicate variable, the best way to do this is, when ever we are creating a new variable
we need to ask can we reuse variable from inside the process, example when creating the input/output variable in Invoke activity
we need to check if we can use some existing variable instead of creating new.
All the DB related operation should be performed in 1 single composite.
How to create WEB SERVICES in BPEL
Not sure what you want to ask here, as BPEL is itself a webservice.

I also got this error this morning. DiscoBrick is just a visual plug-in for itunes that i don't even use, so i just uninstalled it and that solved my problem.
Go to MacHD/Library/iTunes/iTunes Plug Ins/ then delete DiscoBrick.
If you still want it you could try re-installing it again
