BPM Transformation Error not Raising Exceptions

Hi,
I've got a BPM receives a message, then call a transformation step and then send the message.  I've created exception branches for the transformation and send steps.  If the message mapping called in the transformation step works, the message is send, no problems.  If a message mapping exception occurs, for example a string index out of bounds, the exception branch is not executed.  Instead the BPM continues to the send step and an error occur because of the empty container element.(the container is empty because the mapping fails).  SAP Help states that an exception is "Thrown when a permanent system error occurs" in the Transformation step.  My question is what exactly is a permanent system error if normal message mapping exceptions is not a permanent system error?  And also, how do I generate a permanent system error when a message mapping exception is thrown in order for the exception branch in my BPM to execute?
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I dont think there is a direct way to raise such error in mapping
What is the sxi_cache status for ur integration process?
Here r the steps for which permanent error is thrown

  • Error in Raising exceptions in a method and handling the same in the WF

    Hi All
    I tried to implement Raising exceptions in a method and handling the same in the workflow
    in the same way given in SAPtechnical site .
    1.by adding a error msg in exception parameter .
    2. if the select query fails, to fetch the agent then :exit_return 9001 'ztable name' space space space.
    3.in the Background activity in which this method is called there automatically one outcome appears ,and I hav acitvated that outcome and in that done what need to be done for that error handling - just send a mail to concern person .
    4. in the normal outcome of the activity , the step to be executed are there .
    but its not working , if exception come then the WF stuck there only . it do not follow the exception outcome .
    Kindly help me , How can I do the exception handly in WF.
    thanks & Regards

    > That is usually the case - you catch an error in the underlying program and pass that back so the workflow can go into error.
    > You're doing it correctly.
    I don't think that's quite right.
    If you define an error/exception in a method, it is automatically mapped to an outcome of the step/task.
    If you activate that outcome, then you can handle the exception in a branch of the workflow.
    For example: 'Remote connection is down, please contact Basis'
    The step should only go into error if an outcome occurs that you have NOT activated.
    So the original question is valid. Please give some more information on what the error message is..

  • BPM: Transformation Error with Interfaces/ MT's in different namespaces

    Hi all,
    Developing an integration process on XI 3.0 SP20 I'm facing following problem:
    I've created a transformation mapping interfaces/ message types from different software components/ namespaces.
    Softwarecomp. 1 is used for the mappings and integration processes
    Softwarecomp. 2 and 3 are used for the interfaces/ message types for incoming and outgoing messages.
    Softwarecomp. 2 and 3 are assigned to Softwarecomp. 1.
    The error message is that the container types do not fit the types of source- and target messages.
    When I copy all objects in Softwarecomp. 1 everything works fine but I don't want to mix it all up.
    I've tried playing with XML-Namespaces in the message types (same XML-NS, like "test" for both MT's, also removing the XML-NS's) but it still doesn't work.
    How can I realise a transformation with objects from different SC's and NS's?
    Thanks in advance!
    Karsten

    I've created another integration process with simple example messages and it really seems to be impossible to do a transformation with message types from different software components.
    I've seen a transformation where they have done it though.
    What did I overlook??

  • HRMD_A IDoc in error not raising an event

    I have workflows enabled for IDocs in error.
    If an inbound order IDoc (ORDERS) arrives in status 51, it triggers a workflow.
    If an HR master data IDoc (message type HRMD_A) arrives in status 51, no workflow is triggered.
    Here is what I have checked:
    Partner profile has me as responsible agent in both cases.
    Both type linkages are active for IDOCHRMD and IDOCORDERS event InputErrorOccurred.
    Both IDocs types are posted in with the test tool and end up in status 51.
    When I investigate the event trace, I can see that an event is raised for the ORDERS IDoc but not for the HRMD_A IDoc.
    There are no errors in the type linkage status column.
    So why would it be that the event is not being raised for the HRMD_A IDoc?
    How can I find out what should be raising the event? I guess that there is a function module call to SWE_EVENT_CREATE or SAP_WAPI_CREATE_EVENT.
    Kind Regards,
    Tony.

    Hi Tony,
    I am a complete novice to workflow but I have a requirement liek yours to trigger workflow for idocs in error, so I was hoping you could point me in the direction of some documentation/steps on how to do this?

  • RaiseBundledException does not raise exception??

    Hi all,
    I am validating an entities attributes and collect the exceptions in a list and finally throw an exception with
    if(!getExceptionList().isEmpty())
    OAException.raiseBundledOAException(getExceptionList());
    the exception list is not empty but somehow it does not show an exception!
    I don't have much time and if you have any idea any response will be appreciated.

    Hi Ramkumar,
    this is what I did in order to make attribute validation,
    public static void DMOvalidateFields(OAPageContext oapagecontext,OAWebBean oawebbean,BidItemsVORow biditemsvorow,ResponseAM responseam)
    BidItemPricesEOExImpl biditempriceseoimpl = (BidItemPricesEOExImpl)((BidItemsVORowImpl)biditemsvorow).getEntity(0);

  • BPM error:Container element in step transformation is not initialized

    Hello Experts,
    I am new to the concept of BPM.
    I'm trying to create an integration process in which I'm taking an Idoc and processing it in many ways. The process contains many transformation steps. There two such transformation steps which have been placed in block step in a fork. And i get this error: Container element XXX in step transformation is not initialized
    What could be the problem?
    Regards,
    Akhil

    Hi
    if u are getting the messaga with red sigh then it means it will craete the error while running the scenario.
    but if it is in blue then i think it will not create any error.
    the meaning of that statement is that the container u have defind is not used anywhere. it is just giving u a warning message.
    Thanks

  • Handling Java Mapping Exception in BPM Transformation step

    Dear SDN members,
    I have developed a File to File scenario using BPM as follows.
    Step 1:
    Sender file adapter picks the file from FTP server and using file content conversion mapped to XML structure.
    Step 2:
    BPM will recieve the XML payload , immediately in the block a transformation step is called with an interface mapping. In the interface mapping a Java mapping will be executed with certain data validations on the XML payload. If found any invalid data is there a suitable excptions will be raised . Here the transformation step should be catch the error and control should be sent to exception block to place the recived file as a error file.
    else if the transformation is executed with out any issues, the file will be placed in success folder.
    But in the transformation step, though java mapping thorwing exceptions, the control not going into exception block, instead it is continuing to next step i.e the file is placing in the success folder.
    Can anybody tell me, how to handle the exceptions raised in java mapping in the BPM transformation step?
    I have refered all the SDN blogs, forums related to this issue, but could not able to find the answer. Please help me?
    Thanks & Regards
    Vijayanand Poreddy

    Hi Abhishek,
    Once the file is picked from FTP server then sent to BPM,
    the BPM steps
    Step1:
    -->Recive
    Step 2:
    Block Starts
       ---Block Start: New Transaction
       ---Block End : New Transaction
       ---Exception : Error
    Step 3
    Inside the Block
    Transformation Step
       --Interface Mapping: <IM Name>
       -- Check box ticked for Create New Transcation
       -- Exceptions
          --System Error: Error
       --Source Message: Message recieved in Recieve Step (Step 1)
    Step 4:
      --Send
      --Source Maessage: Output message from the Transformation Step
    Block End
    Inserted a Exception Branch for Block
    Steps inside Exception Branch
      -Control
        --Throw Alert
       --Alert Name
    In the above scenario
    The transformation step is not throwing error even my interface mapping going to error. The same transformation step if i place outside the block next to recieve step, then the transformation step is throwing error and BPM stops the process.
    Also, when transformation is inside the block, i have used the exception handling on the send step inside the block. here it is throwing error as the source message payload is empty. because in the preceding transformation step the interface mapping is failed due to which there the target will not be filled. But even though it is not entered into exception block.

  • Error text missing in  raising exception (In ABAP mapping)

    Hi,
    iam using ABAP Mapping for 1 interface.
    Based on some condition  i am raising exception with error text. When i executed this in SXI_Mapping_test it's showing the Error text. But when i execute the interface directly error text is missing in the Error details.
    can any one figure out y its not coming..
    regards
    Kishore

    Hi,
    I think you need to write the error to mapping trace.

  • BPM not entering exception branch

    Hi,
    In BPM I have a timeout problem. I am calling asynchronously a JDBC receiver inside my BPM. This step is in a block. And I put there an exception and an exception branch. Now when my jdbc failes (in RWB I see the error) my bpm still continues without entering exception branch. After that I set the Acknowledgment in the sender step of the JDBC to Transport. This time it starts to wait and again doesn't enters the exception branch.
    How can I get that the process enters the exception branch?
    Thanks.

    In the case of an asynchronous send step, the exception will only be triggered if an error occurs during the transfer to
    the pipeline. Errors that occur during mapping in the pipeline, do not trigger an exception.
    Your requirement is to catch an exception that may occur while sending to the DB from the Channel....and for this you have set Acknowledgement to Transport and used an Exception Branch.
    Now in the Block enclosing your Send Step you have to first put a Deadline Branch....this deadline Branch will wait for the entire retry interval of your Channel.....in this Deadline Branch you have to put a Control Step which will Throw Exception
    Now this exception will be caught by the Exception Branch....then in the Exception Branch have your Exception Handler.....this is how we design the BPM when we have to catch the exception from an Async Send step.
    Be it Deadline Branch or Wait step....the minimum time-interval is 1 min!

    Abhishek.

  • Should not raise no data found error

    Hi Experts,
    I am using select into statement in procedure and put some condition in select statement.
    I want if condition failed then it sould put null in to target variable . It should not raise no data found error
    e.g
    select abc into v_abc from table
    where cond1=cond;
    if this select statement no give any record it should put null into v_abc and not raise no data found error
    pls suggest something
    UG

    You could do...
    SQL> ed
    Wrote file afiedt.buf
      1  declare
      2    v_abc varchar2(20);
      3  begin
      4    SELECT
      5      CASE
      6        WHEN (select COUNT(*) from emp where empno = 1234) > 0 THEN
      7          (select ename from emp where empno = 1234)
      8        ELSE
      9          null
    10      END
    11    INTO v_abc
    12    FROM dual;
    13* end;
    SQL> /
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.But that's no better than doing a check first as a seperate SQL in the PL/SQL.
    I would do this... (if I really didn't want the no_data_found exception)
    SQL> ed
    Wrote file afiedt.buf
      1  declare
      2    v_abc varchar2(20);
      3  begin
      4    SELECT max(ename)
      5    INTO v_abc
      6    FROM
      7      (
      8      SELECT ename from emp where empno = 1234
      9      UNION
    10      SELECT null from dual
    11      );
    12    dbms_output.put_line(NVL(v_abc,'!null!'));
    13* end;
    SQL> /
    !null!
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    SQL> ed
    Wrote file afiedt.buf
      1  declare
      2    v_abc varchar2(20);
      3  begin
      4    SELECT max(ename)
      5    INTO v_abc
      6    FROM
      7      (
      8      SELECT ename from emp where empno = 7782
      9      UNION
    10      SELECT null from dual
    11      );
    12    dbms_output.put_line(NVL(v_abc,'{null}'));
    13* end;
    SQL> /
    CLARK
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.

  • Catching errors in Web Dynpro for Java when thrown from RFC Raise Exception

    Hello Developers,
    I'm looking for information that explains how a Web Dynpro for Java application responds and processes errors that are thrown from a Raise Exception event within an RFC.
    The Exceptions do not appear to be part of the Model and I can't identify how they get processed.
    When rfc HRXSS_CAT_WD_RECORD raises exception PERNR_NOT_LOCKED this exception is passed back to the calling webdynpro CAT DC that displays the exception on the web page along with the log.
    I would like to display a friendlier message and without the log.  Any information on how to customize the handling of this error would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Terry

  • When Background task raises exception that is not handeled

    Hi,
    I am using a background task that uses a method which does not handle exceptions raised by the function module it calls in turn. When such situation arises, i want to build some sort of exception handling mechanism in my workflow.
    e.g, BG task uses method 1 that calls method 2. method 2 raises some exception which is not handled in method1 or method2 results into short dump. As a result of this situation Workflow bg task changes the status to ERROR and I want to handle such unplanned exceptions in Workflow.
    Is there anyway for workflow to know (maybe some event) when one of it's BG task status changes to ERROR?
    Thanks,
    Saurabh

    Hi,
    Just use the exit_return macro in your method. See the following example.
    BEGIN_METHOD 'Method_Name' CHANGING CONTAINER
    **Data Declaration
    **fetching data from container
    CALL FUNCTION 'Function_module_name'
       EXPORTING
       IMPORTING
       TABLES
       EXCEPTIONS
         exception1 = 01
         OTHERS = 02.
       IF sy-subrc ne 0.
         EXIT_RETURN 9001 SPACE SPACE SPACE SPACE.
                           "Define this event in the exceptions of the method.
       ENDIF.
    Passing data to container
    END_METHOD.
    After doing these changes in your method, you will be able to see your exception in the outcomes tab of the activity. Just activate your exception there. You will get a new branch for this exception in your workflow. In this branch, you can determine how do u want to handle the exception.
    Hope this will help you. Let me know if you have any doubt.
    Thanks

  • Raise exception when the user entered value is not present

    Hello Abap experts,
    To raise an exception in the function module when the imported variable value is not presnt in the table.
    import variable: cust_name.
    how to define a exception for this raise it in the code. any examples and suggestions.
    Thanks,
    BWer

    Here is the F1 help on RAISE.
    <i>
    RAISE
    Basic form 1
    RAISE except.
    Effect
    This statement is only effective in function modules and methods.
    It triggers the exception except.
    If the exception is to be handled by the caller of the function module or method ( CALL FUNCTION or CALL METHOD ), the system passes control straight back to the caller. EXPORT parameters of a function module or method are not filled. The EXPORTING, CHANGING, and RETURNING parameters of a function module or method are only filled with the current values if they were defined to be passed by reference. reference).If they are defined to be passed by value, they are not filled.
    If the exception is not handled by the caller, the program terminates with an appropriate error message.
    Example
    Let there be a function module STRING_SPLIT containing the following code (see also the example in the documentation of the CALL FUNCTION statement):</i>
    <b>FUNCTION-POOL CSTR.
    FUNCTION STRING_SPLIT.
      IF STRING NA DELIMITER.
        RAISE NOT_FOUND.
      ENDIF.
    ENDFUNCTION.</b>
    The calling program might then contain the following:
    <b>PROGRAM EXAMPLE.
    CALL FUNCTION 'STRING_SPLIT'
         EXCEPTIONS
              NOT_FOUND = 7.
    IF SY-SUBRC = 7.
      WRITE / 'There is a problem.'.
    ELSE.
    ENDIF.</b>
    <i>
    If the NOT_FOUND exception is raised in a RAISE statement in the function module STRING_SPLIT, the system exits the function module and returns control to the calling program. The return code, which you should evaluate directly after the CALL FUNCTION statement, now contains the value 7.
    Note
    Runtime errors:
    RAISE_EXCEPTION: The caller did not handle the exception that was triggered.
