BPS Retraction Issue

Hello Experts,
We are implementing IP for Cost Center Planning and we are using BPS for Data Retraction. Our requirement is to retract the data on monthly basis to R/3 system. We are facing a strange issue here. In parameter group setting we are using Delta Mode as 0 u2013 Delta update. But when we retract the data for given month, in R/3 data for particular month is being retracted properly but data for rest of the months is being cleared. E.g we have following data in R/3 and we are in the month of Feb And we are retracting data for Mar which has value of 150
Jan u2013 100
Feb u2013 150
Mar u2013 200
April - 250
After retraction we have following values in R/3
Jan u2013
Feb u2013
Mar u2013 150
April u2013
Any input regarding this is appreciated !
- Prawin !

Is the month restricted to march in the planning level/package?? Check the characteristic selections.

    hi guys,
When i create sender structure for retraction, need to specify the retraction target(eg UPB_RET_COPS) using drop down to find. But i can't find any value after using drop down button. So i want to know how  and where to define the retraction target,in BPS or R/3?
The dictionary structure has the same problem.
And what do mean the fields of 'offset'  and 'sender field lgth'?
       Need your help!
       thanks a lot!

  • BPS retraction RFC destination conversion

    Hello everybody,
I m surprised not having met a discussion about RFC destination conversion between systems for BPS retraction?
What is the common recommendation for BPS retraction to have your customizing adapted and to retract to your QUAL R/3 from your QUAL BPS system without having to replicate your customizing with hard coded RFC destination to allow every BPS system to retract to any R/3 system !! Why this does not read the RFC conversion table from BW, probably too easy ?
If you have feed back on this point I would really appreciate , many thanks .
    Laurent Allais

    Hello Laurent,
I agree, it would be nice if the system would convert the RFC destinations. The functionality is just not there. You can use a single RFC destination for all systems and just have a different server that it is pointing to in SM59.
Or you just make a change in BPS0 after the transport.  It's quite common for plan administrators to have access to BPS0.

  • BPS Retraction for Cost Center Accounting - Cost Element - Compounding with

    Hello everybody,
I'm using the "BPS Retraction for Cost Center Accounting" described in the blog from Praveen Mayalur. I have customized the BPS system  (3.5) as described.
But if i started the retraction i receive a dump. I have debug a little bit and i found out that there is a problem with the InfoObject "Cost Element". It is compounding with two InfoObjects "Source system ID" and "Controlling area".
    PERFORM FILL_RSRDEP USING I_AREA
                              I_CHANM
                              ITO_CHADEP

    IF L_SUBRC NE 0.

    ENDIF.
Does anybody have this problem before. ?
    Regards Detlev

    Hi,
it looks that your 0COSTELEMNT has been changed and the additional compounding object 0SOURSYSTEM has bben added. In BI Content it is only compounded to 0CO_AREA. So may be this is the problem.
To be sure that it works you must make the change in your source system to and "compound" 0COSTCENTER to 0SOURSYSTEM. Or you have to chabge the retraction that way that it ignores the source system and only reads 0CO_AREA and costcenter.

  • BPS retraction of Quantity in CO OM not retracting at all !

Hi everybody, I post after many and many trials.
I am retracting Primary Costs ( we have planned on CostElements for CO-OM Internal Orders) and I followed the blogs etc. Everything is fine for the Amount and it retracts ok by Posting Period but the quantities are not retracting at all.
I also fixed the Unit as H as suggested because the quantity is in Hours and the R3 system expect that I retract hours for the CostElement related to Cost of Personnell.
I don't move out from this position since long and I should deliver the project in 10 days .
Any help is really really welcome.

    Hi Marc,
first of all my personal compliments because very often I follow your posts .
Your answer let me "smell" the right way . Before to post I already debugged the retraction but at first look, if you don't feel that also somebody else found mistakes you can debug for hours and all looks fine. So this time I debugged with more attention and I found something strange in the Unit of Measures. In R3 the Cost Element expect H as Hours but in the RFC was going the quantity without the Unit of Measure. As I remember also in the blog about retraction the author said to take care about UOM. So I checked better Retraction about UOM and I found a OSS note . Anyway if this thread can be of help, I put here the list of OSS notes to be checked.
The system where I work is always updated but I remember that sometimes especially in some cases where you miss some PIns or for many other reasons, (not good upgrades for example) the system in some part can remain not updated even if there are the proper HP.
If I can help anybody with similar problems if JUST SEARCHING for  LUPREF02 in OSS NOTES you will find many !!!!

  • 'How to..use reporting variables in BPS'  syntax issue

    Hi,
I am implementing the white paper 'How to...use reporting variables in BW-BPS' and I am getting a syntax error in the include YBW_BPS_VAR_READ. The error indicates 'Statement is not accessible' for my line:
    SELECT SINGLE * FROM ybw_bps_var_map
ybw_bps_var_map being my transparent table as described in the white paper.
I have never seen such a syntax error, has anyone had the same issue? My code is the one in the white paper.
    Thanks for any help.
    David

    Hi David,
I have the coding up and running. I have not seen this error before and don't know how to resolve it. If you cut&paste it from the PDF, then maybe some special characters got pasted into the ABAP editor. Try to delete the line and type it in manually.

  • BPS Retraction for PS Master Data

    Hi,
We want to use BPS and be able to create PS Master data (project IDs) in BPS. But at the same time, we want to be able to retract the new master data created in BPS. How can we reconcile the master data created in BPS with the one created in R/3? When the data is sent to R/3, is there a data integrity check? How can we complete the master data in R/3 knowing that only 2 or 3 fields are posted in BPS.
Any advice or inputs would be greately appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • BPS retraction (CCA) - authorizations for background user (R/3)

    Hi,
I'm  trying to retract plandata for statistical key figures from BW to R/3. During data retraction I get an error message in BW. The message is about missing authorities on R/3 side, but without any detailed information. We use the standard backround user for BW => R/3 RFC connections. So my question is, if the background user needs additional authorizations for data retraction? Are there any notes or documentation?
    Thanks for help,
    Tanja

    Hi,
I remember having faced this issue...
I fixed it by creating a RFC connection for the retraction itself connecting with a service user (S_BWRETR) having profiles SAP_ALL, SAP_NEW.
    hope this helps...

Its related to PS retractors and we would like to use the fields like version, fiscal year, period, Business Process Number, WBS, Amount. I was able to get some nice blogs and documents on retractors in sdn, but most of the information was for BW 3.x versions. I would like to know is there a diffrence while using BI-7 system. We have a BPS Model and we need to do retraction to CO in CeBe's .

    Rosa S.

In BI Integrated Planning, no new retractors are shipped.
In BI Integrated Planning, you can only use some of the retractors that are used in BW-BPS: you can use any retractors that work according to the pull principle (COPA and Public Sector) without changing them. Other retractors cannot be used directly in BI Integrated Planning; retraction is only possible using BW-BPS

    Hi all,
Am very new to BW BPS. Please give me some issues which we generally face in support project when we work in BW BPS project.
and also provide me step by step method, how to start working with BW BPS. I have searched in forums but those are not clear. Plz tell me clearly step by step.
    Thanks,

    Hello Jack,
there's a lot of information available. If you are serious about it, my #1 recommendation would be to get proper training. You can do it online (http://service.sap.com/rkt -> SAP NetWeaver 7.0 Learning Maps for Consultants) or in class room (http://www.sap.com/asia/services/education/index.epx -> Courses TBW45 or BW370).
Or get a book like http://www.sap-press.com/products/Business-Planning-with-SAP-SEM.html

  • BPS modelling issues

    Hi ,
i am having a set of doubts can any one clarify me pls.
    1. can partioning of transaction cubes improves the performance in bps layouts.
    2. can we refer  3 cubes actual data at once  in a distribute function and populate the fourth cube using multi planning areas.
    3. performance wise how much maximum number of records can we store in a transactional cube.( each record having 20 columns)
    4. how to handle buffer shortage issues whice using bps function over huge volume of data.
Thanks for all of your great efforts.
    Ram

    To add another perspective:
    1. Physical partitioning might improve BW read time but bear in mind the BW read is likely a small part of your overall BPS execution time (for example in our system BW read is only 5-10% of total execution time) so don't assume that shaving a small percentage off the read time is necessarily going to have noticable impact on BPS performance.
    2. It depends - definitely possible to use a different cube for reference data in a distribution, but dist functions tend to need quite specific identification of reference data so if it is truly spread amongst three cubes may not be straightforward. You can probably get around it but might need to be creative though echo Mary's question about need to refer to 3 cubes at the same time for a single function.
    3. No of records in the cube should not matter hugely, though BW read time will degenerate as it gets very large. What is absolutely critical is minimising the number of records you are pulling into the BPS buffer. To give an example on our system we have 10 million records in transactional cube but users generally working with 10-30,000 records and response time for calling up layouts on the web and executing functions generally around 5 to 15 seconds.
    4. Simple answer is don't go anywhere near BPS buffer limit, not only do you get ABAP dumps when you exceed it which is very irritating I think everything gets exponentially slower as you approach memory limits (just my opinion from experience). Every design is different but my rule of thumb assuming a reasonable number of characteristics & KFs would be: much over 50,000 records will likely be getting slow for users so think about running functions in the background; much over 250,000 <b>might</b> be risk of memory problems so question whether you really need to do this in BPS - if you do then consider breaking data down into smaller sections for processing either by design of your functions and selections or using a program to help break it up like UPC_BUNDLE_EXECUTE_STEP.
