BRBACKUP/DBVerify restarts DB
Hi all,
I run DBVerify using the following BRBACKUP command :
brbackup -u / -c force -w only_dbv -p initSID.sap -m ALL
backup_type is set to 'online' in the initSID.sap
So DB is open when I run DBVerify.
The execution is OK but the problem is, if I want to stop the instance while DBVerify is running, the brbackup process is not killed and it starts itself the database.
The following messages appear in the dbv log :
BR0395I Verifying /oracle/SID/sapdata1/id1_73/id1.data73 using DBVERIFY...

Is there any way that brbackup/dbverify does not start the database ?

SQLNET.EXPIRE_TIME = 10
CONNECT_TIMEOUT_LISTENER = 10
But when I have stop the instance, I have stop the listener too.

Brconnect with dbverify on database with more than 1TB
Hi,
today I work one a problem with brconnect and dbverify.
The time to finish the work one my db is > 48 hours and not acceptable.
My question is how can minimize the time of thes action, so that the check give me the right information in a acceptable time.
Option for more cpu don't solv my problem.
Thx in Advance.
JoeHi Michael,
we backup the database with ADSM LANFREE. These takes 4-5 hours. (without LANFREE Options > 20 hours.
Our Storage system is an IBM SAN Box.
brconnect with -all -cascade -p 3 (8 Pro. into a box) needs 48 hours the finish the work.
We've 7*24 hours the system up and, round about 1000 users online. (nighly a lot of Batch running on the System)
(4 Appl. Server, one DB Server).
I try to verfify the database mit brbackup .... so the test is finish after 30 hours. not so bad, but not really good...
Next I'll try to check parts of db (like BTABD, eq.) per day.
Thx to all -

After do the disk except error check , we found that the disk read is slow gradually after restart the system. but we have not the performance analyse before the disk except error check ,so we can't how to
lead the disk read slowly.
we found the disk read slowly by the db_verify job is slow gradually.
the db_verify command is "brbackup -u / -c force -m all -t online -w only_dbv"
now we don't know the databse reason or hardware lead to the db_verify slow.

We are having an issue with setting up a DBVERIFY in DB13
We would like to schedule checks for Oracle block corruption in DB13
using DBVERIFY to run at quiet times but it seems this can only be done
offline. We see in brtools that we can run DBVERIFY online i.e. while
R/3 is running. How can we make DB13 run DBVERIFY without taking the
database offline? Is DBVERIFY the recommended way to check for Oracle
block corruption?
Please help regarding the same.
Thanks,
xyzHi,
There is one missing

Very easy to find if you use the help on the left upper corner, Idid a quick search and got two notes back and one has the correct answer:
SAP Note Number: 204499
DB13: New actions in the DBA planning calendar
>Verify database
>----
>Verifies the database files with BRBACKUP option "-w only_dbv". The Oracle utility DBVERIFY is called in order to verify the individual files. To determine whether this action is carried out online or offline, use the parameter backup_type in the standard profile init<SID>.sap.
No need to edit the SDBAC table ( not supported )

Many ThanksHi,
this error generally occurs when database is trying to restart and it does not find all files to open...
have you checked this file is present or not oracle/IR1/sapdata2/undo_1/undo.data1 ??
Please run below command the you will get to know which data file is missing ..
ALTER SYSTEM CHECK DATAFILES.
Also, please go thorugh below links:

Brbackup/backint consumes all my RAM on Linux
I am investigating the disappearnce of RAM in my Linux hosted SAP ECC6 Development System on SLES10 and Oracle 10.2.0.4. The box is hosted on a VM but as this problem only happens when the backup is ssheduled I have ruled out VM as the cause for the time being.
The box has 24GB or RAM allocated.
After starting Oracle just over 1GB is used.
After starting R3 just over 2.5GB is used.
During the normal operations the used increases to 7GB leaving 17GB Free.
Brbackup starts at 09:00 and with no other large processes running suddenly Free RAM drops off to 112MB. When the backup completes the free RAM remains at 118MB. Why do I think that the backup may be the cause? Because I restarted the server just over a week ago, and got the same dropoff or RAM at the same time on the same day. (being a DEV system I only do a full backup a couple of days a week).
If you have any ideas of how to fix this issue please respond.Hello Mark,
in order to avoid that all the available physical RAM is consumed on your system by the file system cache during backups I would recommend to check if it is possible to configure your backup software to use DirectIO. With DirectIO enabled all data written by the backup software would go directly to the storage without being cached in the file system cache by the OS first thus avoiding that the RAM gets filed by the file system cache during backups.

I also ran a Hardware Test and all the hardware seems ok.
I've taken the battery out of the PMU and it doesn't seem to have any issues starting without that battery in place.
I'm really confused. Why all of a sudden would my computer hate me like this?Hi, Daniel!
You can use this Apple Document to test your QS power supply with a voltmeter, without having to remove it from the Mac. It references a different model, but the only difference is that the voltage at pin 22 is 25 volts on a QuickSilver PSU rather than the 28 volts shown for the Gigabit Ethernet Mac. The procedural steps are the same...
Does the Mac restart properly with the battery removed from the logic board? Does the battery test out okay, or can you swap it with another one?

Mid 2010 Macbook Pro Keeps Restarting due to Kernel Panic. Ideas for how to fix?
So my Mid 2010 Macbook Pro keeps randomly restarting, and giving me a screen that says something like "your computer restarted due to a problem."
Looks like it as a kernel panic, but I have no idea what this is. Seems to be no pattern for when it crashes. Used to do it maybe once a month and now this is the 5th time in two days.
Any idea what might be going on? Looked at past threads but nothing seemed to apply.

Looks like it as a kernel panic, but I have no idea what this is. Seems to be no pattern for when it crashes. Used to do it maybe once a month and now this is the 5th time in two days.
Any idea what might be going on? Looked at past threads but nothing seemed to apply.

My MacBook was acting weird like sometimes I would log on and I wouldn't be able to type my password for a couple seconds, but it usually logged in after that. Then I left my computer open after installing the recent update after that all my applications were not responding. So I shut it down, when I turned it back on about an hour later it went to this loading screen and then to the login like usual. After I tried logging in a white screen flashed and it went back to the login/ password screen like nothing happened. Any ideas on what happened and what I can do to fix it?
Reinstall OS X;
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless. -
What happened first is Firefox was revving and using most of my CPU, ultimately "not responding" too easily and for too long, so I closed it in order to reopen it, but Firefox remained running in background (Task Mgr, Processes) after closing, continuing to use almost all my CPU, so I ended the process in Task Mgr.
When I went to re-open it, window opened and told me Firefox could not be opened because another "instance"(?) was still running, to close it or restart Windows. I couldn't close it because I already closed it AND ended the process, so I restarted Windows.
When I tried to open Firefox, I got the same pop-up. I think I restarted Windows one more time, and then uninstalled Firefox, except for my personal settings (in order to save the bookmarks, which I couldn't find in the Firefox folder in Program Files (only Favorites, which were not my bookmarks; I later wondered if they were part of the Firefox add-on "Add This" --??).
I then uninstalled Firefox and re-installed it. When I tried to start the newly re-installed program, I had the same pop-up telling me Firefox was already running and to close it or restart Windows.
I searched my computer folders for anything that might help, did a Search of the computer for "Firefox", and was given some Firefox folders and if they weren't from the new re-install, I deleted them. One thing I noticed was that the program folder did NOT have the program (Firefox.exe) icon to start Firefox.
I uninstalled Firefox and had to resort to using Internet Explorer, which I do NOT like. My rich library of bookmarks are who knows where.
I don't know if this is related, but in searching my computer's Administrative Services and Component Tools (and the like) hoping to find something that would help me fix Firefox, I inadvertently learned that "MMC could not create the snap-in. The snap-in might not have been installed correctly. Name: .NET Framework 1.1 Config."
Please help me get Firefox back and figure out what is going on in my computer that led to this. I am a basic user and not techno-computer saavy, so if anyone can help me with this, please give me step-by-step bonehead instructions.
Thank you so much for any help you can offer!Make sure that Firefox is set as the default browser.

Mail app wont open. Have tried restarting, and it still kicks me out.
Seem to have fixed it by shutting everything down and restarting again. Thanks chaps.
Try to turn the iPad off for a while and then go on e-mail.
if that doenst work, go to settings-mail, contacts and calenders, then delete your mail account of the iPad.
After that, add the e-mail you just had on that didnt work and it should work.
If that doesnt work, go onto the settings-mail, contacs and calenders and fiddle around with that.
Hope that works for u. -
My mail app doesn't seem to open. It starts but then it kicks me out. I have tried restarting the device and the app but it makes no difference. Its telling me i have 2 messages but i cant get in to read them. Has anyone had this trouble before?
Close the Mail app in the Task Bar and re-launch.
Double-click the Home button to reveal Task Bar. Hold Mail app down for a second or two; tap the minus sign to close app.
If it still doesn't work, try a reset.
Hold the Sleep and Home button down (together) for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo.
