We have gone through a number of Notes and found relatively litttle resolution to this problem.  Has anyone been able to resolve this or have any suggetions, other than a DB or hardware upgrade, that might solve this issue.
Thanks and regards,

  • What happen during shutdown oracle database

    Dear All,
i have a questions and i enclosed some suggestions for the answer because I'm confused about the answers :
What happens during shutdown oracle database :
    and the suggested answer :
1- When shutdown the database with NORMAL or IMMEDIATE option : the database system writes check point before shutting down the database .
2- when you shutdown the database with the IMMEDIATE , option , open transaction are rolled back before the database is shutdown .
3- shutting down the database with abort always requires an instance recovery at the next startup .
please suggest the right answer .
    Regards

    Hi Anwar,
When you close a database, Oracle writes all database data and recovery data in the SGA to the datafiles and redo log files, respectively. Next, Oracle closes all online datafiles and redo log files.
When you terminate the instance of an open database/use abort command to close and completely shut down the database the writing of all data in the buffers of the SGA to the datafiles and redo log files is skipped. The subsequent reopening of the database requires recovery, which Oracle performs automatically.
I hope this will help you out to understand the process.

  • Facing error during Oracle Database Express Edition Installation

    Hi,
I'm trying to install Oracle database XE on my system (Windows XP Service Pack 3) and keep getting an error "failed to load dll chkportdl2"" while trying to do so.
While researching on a fix,I came across a solution that suggested uninstall of XP service pack 3 during installation and reinstall later.
Now,I dont see an option for "Windows XP Service Pack 3" in "Add/Remove Programs".
I believe Windows XP OBI comes up pre-loaded with Windows XP Service Pack 3 and am not sure if I can uninstall it.
I looked up some other methods of removal here -
    http://www.troublefixers.com/uninstall-remove-windows-xp-service-pack-3-working-procedure/
    however,they werent very helpful either.
Could you suggest how to fix this problem being faced in installing Database XE.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Priya Jetley

    Hi,
I couldn't locate a chkportdll2 file either on my system. It's no regular dll you have on your system. It's usually unpacked in your temp directory when you execute the installer. The message you receive indicates that the installer either couldn't unpack properly (e.g. lack of free space), but this usually would have resulted in an error message. Or you have some Antivirus solution that treats that dll as malware (well, portscans can be bad) and has moved the file into a quarantine zone or at least blocked the access.
Another option would be your user lacks execution privileges for network operations.
The installer fails at the step when you specify a location to install the database. This could mean you don't have enough free (temp) space. How much space is left on the drive that hosts your temp folder?

    Hi,
All databases created by the Database Configuration Assistant (DBCA) include the SYS, SYSTEM, SYSMAN, and DBSNMP database accounts. In addition, Oracle provides several other administrative accounts. Before using these other accounts, you must unlock them and reset their passwords.

  • Compression for oracle database and index compression during import of data

    Hi All,
I have a query , in order to import into oracle database and also have compression and index compression , do we have some kind of load args for r3load and also do we have to change the tpl file ?

    Hello guy,
I did this kind of compression within migration project before.
I performed index compress first and then export -> import with table compress.
One thing you should take care, delete nocompress flag from TARGET.SQL (created by program SMIGR_CREATE_DDL, program SMIGR_CREATE_DDL created pure non-compression objects for these considered non-standard tables). For table columns > 255, we should not delete this flag.
Regarding to the index compress in source system, please check the following notes:
Note 1464156 - Support for index compression in BRSPACE 7.20
Note 1109743 - Use of Index Key Compression for Oracle Databases

  • Changes to be made in EP server during Oracle database migration

    Hi,
Currently we have a scenario where both our Oracle database 10.2 and NW 7.0 server are on same system which has got the hardware configuration as 32 bit 2003 windows machine. Due to memory constraints DB team is planning to migrate the database in to another system which is of 64 bit unix OS.
Now before they migrate the Oracle database from current system to new system i wanted to know on what all parameters and changes have to carried out from NW/ EP end so that after the database is moved EP points to the same Oracle database in the new system and runs smoothly.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Regards,
    Vipin.

This is a heterogeneous migration (you change the operating system) - which requires a certified migration consultant to do that task. If you do it on your own you will loose support for the target system (see http://service.sap.com/osdbmigration)

You will have to use the Java export/import method, not copying database files over.
Check the official system copy guides.

  • How to configure backup parallel in SAP with oracle database?

    Dear SAP,
We need your suggestion on oracle database backup parallel using brbackup, our SAP system run on:
OS: UNIX - SUN Solaris SPARC 10
    SAP: ECC 6.0 SR3
    Database: Oracle 10.2.0.4
Our production database are growing rapidly, estimate growing is 2GB/days. Right now we backup our Production using one tape that estimated time to online backup is 4-5hours.
In there future, if we stayed this configuration. It will take long time to backup and restore it's not applicable. That's why we are planning to add more tapes during backup (4 tape parallel).
I read from help.sap, that we can configure this on $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/init<SID>.sap. in parameter:
    compress = harware
    backup_dev_type = tape
    tape_address = (tape1, tape2, tape3, tape4)
    tape_address_rew = (tape1, tape2, tape3, tape4)
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/88/a2a041a5d4af4db168992639d65d3b/frameset.htm
    My question,
If we want to backup parallel using 4 tapes, is this configuration that we need to do (init<SID>.sap) from sap side (DB13)?
    Thanks and Best Regards,
    Widi

    Dear Mark,
Thanks for your help. actually I have one more question:
How do I restore my backup form this 4 tapes, if I'm using parallel backup?
Will the command same like I restore form 1 tape:
    example:
    brrestore u2013b beczqlnk.ant u2013m full
    brrestore u2013a 5371-5372=/oracle/<SID>/oraarch/
Below are the paramter that I will configure:
    - tape_address = /dev/rmt/0cbn
    - compress = hardware
    - backup_dev_type = tape
    - exec_parallel = 4
    - tape_size = 1600000
    - tape_address = (dev/rmt/0mn, /dev/rmt/1mn, ..)
    - tape_address_rew = (dev/rmt/0m, /dev/rmt/1m, ..)
Appreciate you help and suggestion on this.
    Dear Venkat,
    thanks for your suggestion

  • Can't mount oracle database on linux system

This is same as previous posting just added
e-mail and username info fo forum posting.
I am not able to mount an Oracle database.
I am new to Oracle and am working on an Oracle8i installation on an
Intel Linux Suse 6.3 platform. I am using only one harddrive and am
not using the 4 mount points as mentioned for efficiecy purposes in
the Oracle documentation..I am using the installation cd from Oracle8i
for Linux Starter Kit by Oracle Press. If anyone has this book they
can refer to pages 41-44 for the examples I followed.
As sysdba in sqplplus using the STARTUP command I can not Mount the
database -step 2 of the 3 stage process (Start, Mount and Open the
database) of opening an Oracle database.
I show the errors I encountered when I did the first 2 of the 3 steps
in the step-by-step mode (STARTUP NOMOUNT pfile=, ALTER DATABASE
MOUNT) in the sqlplus session and alert log respectively with startup
nomount and alter database mount for this sqlplus session.
Additionally I show the init.ora file lines referring to control file
which seem to be referred to by the sqlplus error messages and the
alert.log file. Perhaps some can give me some advice as what I can try
    to fix this problem.
At the end of this e-mail I added several questions I had in regard to the control
    files. Any help is appreciated.
Well, here are the sqlplus session results and its alert.log file:

    2) On page 100 in the book Oracle 8i A Beginners's
by Oracle Press mention is made of a
CREATE CONTROLFILE command that can under
    circumstances be used to re-create a control-file.
but that is all that is said about it. Perhaps
you might know something more about it.
    3) Would you recommend any good text for
Oracle DBA's, especially for the problem of the sort
    that I am encountering?

It's probably not supported on RHEL5/Centos5/etc., but...
You can get the installer to function using the following steps:
    - extract the cal_linux_*.tar.gz, and cd into the OracleCalendar_inst directory
In there is the actual installer, cal_linux.
    - the cal_linux is shell script wrapped around some binary blobs. The installer's
problem is that Oracle is setting the LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5 environment
variable, which is a mistake on RHEL5. You need to make it not set that variable,
but you need to do so in a way that the size of the shell script does not change at all,
and none of the binary blobs are impacted.
    - the approach I took was
    mv cal_linux cal_linux.BAK
    sed -e 's/LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5/LD_ASSUME_KERNEL= /g' < cal_linux.BAK > cal_linux
    chmod a+rx cal_linux
    cal_linux -i gui
Note: you must have exactly 5 spaces in the substitution part of the sed command, because you're replacing 5 characters (2.2.5), and the size of the shell script must not change.
If you do that, the installer should run (one warning from awk still) and you should be able to install the product.

    Hi Joel,
how about following the advice given by the error message and moving the mentioned files/folder (init<sid>_OFS.ora, AUDIT folder) to a clustered resource disk?
    just my 2 pence...

    Hi,
Check each of the following :
the spelling of the table or view name.
that a view is not specified where a table is required.
that an existing table or view name exists.
Contact the database administrator if the table needs to be created or if user or application privileges are required to access the table.
Also, if attempting to access a table or view in another schema, make certain the correct schema is referenced and that access to the object is granted.

    Regards,
007Yes you need to change as its been showed.
I think during last install you might have given -ignoreprerequists option to ignore these errors.
So its better to change the kernel parameter as shows in output then try again. This will solve your problem.
