Breakpoints in Eclipse 3.2.2

I am using Eclipse 3.2.2 and I want to put breakpoints in java source code so I could see how java classes actually works.
But when I try Debug I get error "Unable to install breakpoint... due to missing line number attributes..."
Can someone help me to make that work?

So my posted links were valid after all. This
was explained in reply 4 in this link that I posted
above:
http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=642725
Yes, you are right. I saw that but I didn't thought that was the solution.
Anyway, thanks all for help.

  • How can I set up breakpoints in eclipse for jsp?

    I saw somebody can set up breakpoints in eclipse for jsp.
    But I can not do that on my eclipse.
    What's the difference?
    Thanks.

    I don't think this had a keyboard shortcut even before (checked in CS6). There's an alternative though.
    1. Create a JSFL file with following code and save it in the commands folder as 'Remove Tween'.
         fl.getDocumentDOM().getTimeline().setFrameProperty('tweenType', 'none');
    2. Now goto Edit Menu > Keyboard Shortcuts..
    3. Search for 'Remove Tween' and assign a keyboard shortcut to it.
    Now everytime you press the assigned key - jsfl script is executed which essentially removes the tween from selected frame. (works for Classic and Shape tween but not Motion Tweens)

  • Remote debug on Eclipse

    Hi,all
    I'm using eclipse 3.1.1 to debug a servlet deployed on sjsas7 2004Q2, the os is windows. The only connect type on eclipse is Standard(Socket Attach), so I set the debug options in sjsas is:-Xdebug -Dnoagent -Djava.compiler=NONE -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,address=1234,suspend=n,
    When I use debug in eclipse, it connect to sjsas successfully.
    But there's and appservd.exe application error, if I set a breakpoint in eclipse and the sjsas restarts.
    I appreciate anyone tell me how to solve this problem or how can I use shared memoy type in eclipse remote debug?
    Thanks alot

  • Need debugging help: Why is JScrollPane auto-scrolling?

    I'm trying to figure out why when I double-click on a cell within a JTable that's wrapped in a JScrollPane in order to open up another window, the JScrollPane automatically scrolls to the top.
    Even when I update the double click operation to simply call setSelected(false), the JScrollPane still automatically scrolls to the top.
    I added myself as a change listener to the scroll pane's row header view port, and captured the following stack trace.
    I'm having trouble debugging exactly what is causing the following chain of events to fire. If I try to put a debug breakpoint on a method like EventQueue.invokeLater() that's probably initiating the following chain of events, I can't even get back to my application window from my IDE without having to dismiss all of the breakpoints that are reached.
    If I try to follow through from the double-click to the actual JScrollPane auto-scroll, I get lost in a maze of Swing events that I can't navigate out of.
    Any suggestions on how to appropriately debug this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Thanks for your response. I examined the code and nowhere that I can see is it calling either of those two methods.
    At some point, it looks like something within my code or in the UI frameworks that I'm using is invalidating my JScrollPane. I'm having a very difficult time, though, tracking down exactly which component is causing that invalidation.
    Short of writing my own JScrollPane so that I can capture the stack trace of calls to invalidate(), does anyone have any suggestions for debugging this further? I tried to use a conditional breakpoint in Eclipse 2.1.3 (Component.invalidate() where the Component is an instance of JScrollPane), but my breakpoint is never being executed.
    Thanks,
    Mike

  • ActionListener issue JSF Tiles

    I have a bug on my module. the command button for save is not invoking the action event defined in my tiles (fragment.xml). when i turned on my debug perspective using eclipse. the save button will function as normal, it will go to my breakpoint in eclipse, and there i would see that the changes were saved, but when i try to save again in the same page, it doesn't go to my eclipse (this is during my debugging perspective has started and i placed my breakpoint in the method triggered by the action listener).
    This only happening in my edit page, but some of the existing edit pages of other modules are working fine, and we have the same configuration with our tiles and listeners.

Now saving is being invoked every time I click save button, however, when I click restore button, when I try again to save, the actionlistener is no longer working again for save button. All edit pages extend editpanel.jsp (where my save and restore buttons are found, so far all of my edit pages are working except this one).
    Any ideas? Thanks!

  • Unable to debug in Eclipse 3.0 with Tomcat5.0

    Hi there,
    Not sure, if this is the right place for this query. I'm using Tomcat 5.0 as local development server and use Eclipse Platform IDE Version 3.0. For sometime I've been facing this weired problem. When I put a breakpoint in a servlet generated by jsp, a new window opens up in the debug mode saying
    "Source not found for issuePolicy_jsp._jspService(HttpServletRequest, HttpServletResponse) line: 109" For some existing jsp's it works fine, but for some I get this problem. I've not been able to figure out this arbitrate behavior.
    Please help me out. Thanks in anticipation.

    Any idea, anybody?

    Any clues anyone?

    get a SIGSEGV every time I use debug mode in EclipseSo if you create a hello world program and then debug it, it crashes?
    If yes then the causes would be
    1. The VM(s) binaries are corrupted. Plural as it depends on how you run Eclipse.
    2. Something else installed on your system at the OS level (or at least always running) is corrupt or is corrupting the OS.

    I have a problem making weblogic work with eclipse3.1. I am using a BEA WebLogic plugin to handle weblogic (start/stop) from eclipse. However I want to debug my application and I am unable to figure out a way to start my weblogic in debug mode like we do in WSAD. I tried using some other plugins also but no luck. Please suggest me a plugin to handle this or any other way of debugging my application from eclipse. I am using weblogic 8.1.

    Hi,
    Dev Environment
    weblogic eclipse plugin 2.0 beta
    weblogic server 8.1
    eclipse 3.1.1
    Created a server that i would like to deploy my EJB so that i can put break points on my EJB in eclipse.
    How do i do it?
    I managed to deploy an ear (containing the ejb) directly to the weblogic installed folder and it deployed the ejb. But the breakpoint set in eclipse is not triggered. Of course in this case as weblogic server is running the .ear file deployed manually in the file system.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Mel

  • How to Debug a Java Project in Eclipse using Tomcat6.0

    Hi
    Can anybody help me with the following questions.
    1.How to create a java project in eclipse(I am using jsp,servlets,jsf,spring,jasper,struts).
    2.How to debug my application in Eclipse Europa by putting break points.
    3.how should i add Tomcat6.0 to my project in order to debug my application so that i can put break points while running the applications and observe the values.
    Thanks
    Bala

    You may find this tutorial useful regarding to JSF, Eclipse and Tomcat: http://balusc.blogspot.com/2008/01/jsf-tutorial-with-eclipse-and-tomcat.html
    To put breakpoints, just doubleclick on the left gray rule of the code, you'll get blue bullets at the left rule, indicating a break point. Run Tomcat in debug modus (rightclick Tomcat debug). Use the Eclipse debug perspective to step in the code (window open perspective debug).

  • Flex Application showing no errors in Eclipse but not executing either

    Hello,
    I am trying to develop an application in flex/BlazeDS/Java in eclipse and my problem is since my changes in the code are not reflected anymore during runtime of the application. There is no error received from eclipse when I try to clean the project. It is deployed correctly but it seems to be working with the old code and not reflecting the changes. I tried to put the breakpoint too but it says, 'breakpoint cannot be placed here because there is not executable code in this line'
    Please advice.
    Best Regards,
    Jai Kishan Shah

    Hello,
    Well, i never re-install the FlexBuilder (stand-alone, or eclipse-plugin) because any error.
    Your output folder in Flex Build Path on your Project Properties is correct? Other question, you are working with Java ? Many times the project have a "error" on configuration and the directory to deploy is not listen by web-server.
    Exemple:
    If i work with Java and my CATALINA_HOME is: C:\tomcat\ - My webapps is localizated on: C:\tomcat\webapps\MYWEBAPP\ but my output folder on FlexProject is: C:\MyProject\Flex\bin-debug, and i run the application, the application dont work...
    So.. can you show your configuration? Its more easy to understand your problem and help you.

  • Breakpoints in nested classes don't work

    I've noticed that when I set a breakpoint in a nested class, it doesn't work to stop the code, unless I set the breakpoint after I've created an instance of the class.
    In the code example below, if I set breakpoints A, B, C and D, only breakpoints A and C will be hit when MainClass.main runs.
    However, if I set breakpoint D once breakpoint C is hit, then breakpoint D works.
    I've noticed this behavior in both JBuilder 4 and Eclipse, which are both using the Sun 1.3.1 JRE/JDK.
    Does anyone know if there is a way to get breakpoints in nested classes to work as expected (they stop the thread whenever that point in the code is executed, and setting them before the class is loaded/instantiated doesn't change that behavior).
    BTW, in my research on this topic, I found a mention of "class preparation", a step that the JVM goes through when loading a class. I wonder if the class has to go through this step before the breakpoint can be enabled.
    --James
    public class MainClass {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            Object o = OtherClass.Test(3); // Breakpoint A
            System.out.println(o);
    class OtherClass {
        static Object Test(int v) {
            Object o = new NestedClass(v);
            return o;                      // Breakpoint C
        static class NestedClass {
            int x;
            NestedClass(int v) {
                x = v;                     // Breakpoint B
            public String toString() {
                return "NestedClass(x=" + x + ")"; // Breakpoint D
    }

    You wrote:

    Take a look at Bug-ID 4299394
    Synopsis: TTY: Deferred line breakpoints can't be set on inner classes
    http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/4299394.html
    -> BTW, in my research on this topic, I found a mention of "class preparation",
    -> a step that the JVM goes through when loading a class. I wonder if the class
    -> has to go through this step before the breakpoint can be enabled.
    A breakpoint cannot be set in a class before the class prepare event for
    that class. Also: the fully qualified name for the inner or nested class
    must be constructed properly.
    Any breakpoint requested before the target class is loaded must be 'deferred',
    which means the debugger keeps track of the breakpoint request and sets
    it when the class load eventually occurs.
    -> However, if I set breakpoint D once breakpoint C is hit, then
    -> breakpoint D works.
    By the time you get to the breakpoint at C, the inner class containing D
    (OtherClass$NestedClass.class) was located, loaded, and prepared as required
    by the "Object o = new NestedClass(v);" statement.

  • Remote Debug in eclipse

    Hello!
    I am new to eclipse...Can someone tell me how to use remote debug? I thought it is done by running "Debug..." after selecting the java file...Sorry for being so ignorant about this...I will really appreciate your help. Thank you.

    You do not have to have a main() method in the application. In fact you can have a breakpoint in any Java component. It just has to be in debugger's scope and it'll get visited.
    Example: Let's say you're rinning a Tomcat app. You can have a breakpoint inside a servlet's doGet() methof and when you invkoke the servlet from Firefox, Eclipse will pause the excution and will bring the debugger perspective up.
    From the article "Eclipse Debug window should automatically pop-up with the stack pointer on your first breakpoint (See Figure 3: Breakpoint hit in Eclipse's debugger). After that, you can use all the various functions that the debugger has to offer, namely variable assignments, step-into, drop to frame, etc."
    If you're not seeining anything, chances are that you're not executing that piece of code. Double check that and let me know.

  • Jsp-debugging: breakpoints wont work!

    hi,
    i am trying to enable jsp-debugging with eclipse 3, lomboz 3.0.0 and tomcat 5.5.4 (both working
    as an eclipse plugin).
    What happens so far is:
    i write an jsp using lomboz, the jsp is converted to a servlet and stored / copied to a folder
    called j2src in the eclipse workspace (the folder j2src is created by lomboz).
    if i now call the url http://localhost:8080/mywebmodule/jsptest.jsp the jsp is executed faultless
    and in the j2src-folder the corresponding class file appears.
    so, everything works fine, the problem that i now have, is that i can set breakpoints for debugging
    purposes in eclipse in the generated servlet-file under j2src, but this breakpoints are simply ignored, which means the
    servlet is fully executed regardless of where i set the breakpoints, and i really dont get it why, since
    my tomcat works completely in the eclipse workspace.
    do i have to configure the tomcat to enable jsp-debugging?
    i thought i had already done so, here is my deployment descriptor:
    <?xml version='1.0' encoding='utf-8'?>
    <Context docBase="E:\development\tutorial\eclipse_3\eclipse\workspace\testproject2\testmodulezwei" path="/testmodule" reloadable="true" workDir="E:\development\tutorial\eclipse_3\eclipse\workspace\testproject2\j2src" debug="0"/>
    here is what i inserted into the web.xml (in the conf-directory):
    <servlet>
    <servlet-name>jsp</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>org.apache.jasper.servlet.JspServlet</servlet-class>
    <init-param>
    <param-name>classdebuginfo</param-name>
    <param-value>true</param-value>
    </init-param>
    <init-param>
    <param-name>fork</param-name>
    <param-value>false</param-value>
    </init-param>
    <init-param>
    <param-name>xpoweredBy</param-name>
    <param-value>false</param-value>
    </init-param>
    <load-on-startup>3</load-on-startup>
    </servlet>
    any ideas / suggestions?.......i am out of ideas right now....
    thx in advance, timo

    If you're using a debugger in a JSP or servlet, I'd say you're really in trouble.
    I never use a debugger like that for servlets or JSPs. If I have problems I depend on the logger to help me out. Just log statements until you narrow the problem down.
    This might be "clumsy", but it works even in those cases where you don't have a debugger available (like on a client's installation site).
    If your servlet or JSP is doing so much stuff that you have to debug, I'd say they're both doing too much. JSPs are for display; servlets for control. Complex business logic belongs in POJOs that you can debug or EJBs.
    Maybe you should rethink your design.
